Currently basically functionally useless

Unless I'm missing something, it seems that after having to manually enable dark mode for each and every website you'd like to view in dark mode, anytime the page is reloaded (going back/forward, refresh, etc) it's necessary to re-enable dark mode again.

So, functionality-wise, DarkMode is currently basically useless. It's perhaps an interesting tech demo, but in my opinion it shouldn't cost anything considering it doesn't really do anything of value (if anything, it just wastes your time right now..)

To the dev: I'd be more than happy to alter this review if/when things change in the future (and I know limits of the available APIs might force this un-user-friendly experience, but this doesn't force you to charge for DarkMode ...)

Poor dark mode consistency

Many people work specifically web- based and in my case, has a condition of severe sensitivity to light. The having to switch each page back to dark with each safari tab change, I find not only ridiculous, physically painful, but also breaks my chain of thought. I bought this since I bought My I pad pro, waiting for the fix, and can’t believe still the same. Unfortunately Apple doesn’t deem it necessary for us to be able to change the color of the backgrounds either, so dark it is. Please help.

Requires permission for collect passwords and credit card info

Very scary, I don’t care if you say you not collect the data, apple clearly states it does not verify developers information about data collection. I truly would love a dark mode for safari but the permissions it’s asking for is crazy. And I do understand why as I have background in hardware and software engineering.

Now I have wasted my money for a app I never used and deleted…

Needs work

App shows promise, but zero updates in over six months makes me wonder if DarkMode is dead.

Downloaded IOS 15

Hello, I recently downloaded iOS 15 however the websites are still not automatically turning dark. I just want to give you a heads up because I’ve been reading the comments about the Dark Mode not automatically coming and your response about how iOS 15 will automatically make these pages dark. Is there going to be an update to have this extension automatically turn the websites dark?

I want to love it

I really want to love this extension, but the fact that you have to manually enable it for every single page (and it doesn’t remember the setting!) makes it hard to like. I understand that it’s not currently possible due to Apple’s restrictions, but this would be a MUST BUY if it were possible to have it auto-enable on every page you visit. It also works extraordinarily well because it doesn’t just “invert” colors, it makes websites legit dark mode while keeping the original colors of images.

Overall it’s an great extension, but annoying to have to manually enable. If the day comes that the developer can set it to auto-enable, this will be a 5-star must buy.

I think Noir is the better buy.

I’ve now tried three different paid safari dark mode extensions, and they all have their quirks, but I think Noir is the better buy compared to this one.

What I liked about DarkMode was that the background is true black, and has several other themes, and they’re good picks. I also liked that it checks when you’re in dark mode and acts accordingly.

What I didn’t like is that for dark mode to switch, the page must be manually refreshed. Noir switches pages in real time as dark mode is enabled or disabled (though sometimes it won’t darken everything until a refresh).

I also didn’t like that multiple websites I checked had strange artifacts — images with colors shifted strangely, buttons that were black against black and therefore invisible, images being blacked out, and even some websites had accent colors become much lighter when this extension was enabled.

Last, I didn’t like that the theme wasn’t customizable on a per-website basis — so I can’t set one website to true black and another to dark gray, and have the extension remember that.

There were some websites that this extension performed better with than Noir, though, so it might make sense for some people to get both apps, just make sure you don’t enable both on the same websites, because they can interfere with each other.

Needs iCloud syncing across devices

DarkMode is great. But having it on multiple devices and having to tell it on every device what websites to ignore gets annoying when you have Macs and iPhones and iPads all using it.

Almost Perfect

It works well. If you don’t mind manually setting the page it’s an ideal solution given the current constraints. I’m glad I bought it. If Apple allows this software to automatically work in the future I hope the developer will add that functionality, but I understand why it does not currently exist.

Perfect with iOS 15

DarkMode never worked with previous iOS versions due to Apple-imposed restrictions. Now it works great.

well developed for the price

Very happy with DarkMode, I can browse the Internet at night in bed without waking my wife up. A little tip for those who don’t want to have to scroll to the bottom when you tap share, just add it to your favorites and it will show up at the top of the list. I found that out by accident. And having to turn dark mode on for every new webpage is not a big deal, especially if most of your pages are for reading. And if you navigate to a new page and want to navigate back to your previous page dark mode stays, as long as you do not exit Safari altogether. Congratulations to Denk and the other dev. team.

How apps should be

Doesn't collect data. √
Pay once use forever. √
Doesn't break my flow to ask for a review. So far...

I've been using it for about five minutes and so far, I'm impressed. The available themes are pleasing, and the compatibility with the sites I most visit is excellent. It does a good job of maintaining contrast, and it doesn't invert colors, so, for example, on a system status dashboard, red still means bad, and green still means good.

Wow!!! I can use Safari again!!!

Thank you sooooo much! Complications from vision issues renders all texts on bright backgrounds impossible for me to see. The iOS dark mode does not effect Safari! I had given up until I found your program!!! Now I can do everything I used to do online again. I’m besides myself with happiness!!! No sneaky “In App purchases” either!!! Again, THANK YOU!!!

Love it

Does exactly what it says. One-tap dark mode for every page. It would be cool if we could customize the style sheet being used, although I’ve had no issues thus far with the defaults.

Yes, you have to manually activate it for every page every time. It’s unfortunate you have to do this, but it’s an inherent limitation of the current Safari extension architecture, and there is nothing this or any developer can do about it.

Working great on iOS 15

Thank you for making DarkMode! Been using it for an hour and I’m already in love lol. Dark mode all the things.

Great app

The only app I've ever bought, found it recommended on Reddit, and it's completely worth it. I just wanted to add a more recent review. The things people have mentioned in previous reviews have been fixed or updated, and DarkMode runs extremely smoothly in my experience. I use it alllllllllll the time.

Working on iOS 13.2.2

Works fantastic. Read the description clearly, easy setup and now I’m happily reading articles in my car without bothering anyone else with a blinding white screen. I would recommend this to anyone who has ever used a dark mode for browsers. And big thanks to the developer

Great for my eyes

I love DarkMode so much, I got it for both my phone & iMac. It really reduces eye strain if you’re like me & have light sensitivity. Both of these apps make me more comfortable especially on days where I have more office work than normal.

Lol

I totally thought that I just paid 399 for a tutorial on how to turn on dark mode so I deleted DarkMode (knowing that I wouldn’t get my money back) and then found out I certainly did need DarkMode so thanks for the LOL and DarkMode

Neat

Wish it’d stay dark mode between pages.
