Worth it but needs some improvement

App is great, program at its core is great. I would recommend this program to any catholic looking to deepen their faith and ultimately change their life. It is hard but sometimes we need things to be hard.

However, my biggest issue is the Fraternity aspect and how it relates to the family. Every fraternity isn’t the same and sometimes Parish’s that do it with multiple groups will randomize the fraternity members. This does make sense in the way that you’d be grouped with people you wouldn’t normally get to know. However, in our case, it was 3 young married men w/toddlers, one single, and 3 older men with kids out of the house or in college. Sometimes groups value different things and with the new idea (meaning I don’t see it in the 2017 exodus book from when I first did the program) that the fraternity relaxes a discipline together I think it simply doesn’t work. It caused some strife in our group because everyone is in a different season and everyone’s family is different and has different needs and celebrates the sabbath differently. I think a cool idea would be to include with the fraternity relaxed discipline would be to allow the family or the wife to choose one discipline for the exodus man to relax on Sunday. In addition to the fraternity one. The exodus man is still not in control plus if your family celebrates the sabbath a certain way, you are free to do so.

My Best Self

It seems counterintuitive, but living without all these human comforts actually opens me up to others and gives me incredible joy. I couldn’t believe how much time I actually have in a day when I’m not wasting it watching TV. It’s not easy, but it’s well worth the effort and time.

Also, starting every morning with a holy hour and ending with an Examen has brought me closer to the Lord than I’ve ever been. It’s changed the way I think and feel about people throughout the day in an enormous way. I actually notice a big difference in myself when I don’t pray in a day. God’s grace is REAL and very potent. I’ve grown deeper in my relationship with Christ through this spiritual exercise and have reaped the fruits of his love for me.

This is my second time doing it. The last time after day 91, I noticed that as much as I tried to keep the disciplines I tapered off from them over time. I recommend doing this 90 day cleanse at least once a year. I might even start doing it for Lent and Advent ever year. It’s a great way to prepare yourself to receive the Lord on great feast days! This way you “move the needle” a bit each time you do it until you’ve molded your life around Jesus permanently. Keeping the fraternity is a good idea too, but I feel like that’s easier said than done. I guess I’ll find out soon. God bless!

Day 45 and more alive

Cutting out the distractions in my life and focusing that time on my family and the lord have been amazing. I have more energy and feel a sense of calm and peace in work and home situations that used to get me angry. I’m getting projects done around the house and improving my own health. I’m Down 20 lbs and feeling great. Eating good foods, fasting and no sugary drinks and snacks has been a huge blessing. Sadly I couldn’t find a fraternity to join or convince others to join my journey, but I’ve been checking in on a few friends who support me and that in itself has me feeling more connected. My wife may even join me for the last 40 days as she’s been watching the news too much and getting stressing about things. She’s seen how it’s transformed me and is overjoyed. I probably sound like I’m exaggerating — and I’m a little surprised myself, but life seems easier and more full, Vs hours on Facebook or Netflix always feeling tired and empty. I feel like I am treating people better and helping spread joy all while
spending my valuable time on earth in a more useful way. “Be not afraid” & “Here I am lord”. Two of my favorite hymns and great words to live by. Peace and love. Matt

Fraternity of men

Back in December 2019 five of us took on the Exodus 90 day challenge. With every cold shower, every missed televised sporting event, every soon forgotten candy bar and alcoholic drink our prayer life and our weekly fraternity meeting filled the holes/wounds that seperated from our full potential as men, fathers and husbands slowly healed. At the end of the 90 days those things that caused us each individually such spiritual and personal strife were still there waiting to pat us on the back and welcome us back.
So we agreed to continue on with Exodus 91. Although the cold showers have not returned many various other challenges in forms of acseticisms and prayerful commitments to our Lord continue to strengthen our fraternity bonds and bless our families nearly 2 years later.
As I prepare to enter year three I know that I speak for my fraternity brothers along with a lifelong friend who was and still is my anchor man since day one and has agreed to be there with me in year three is to pick up your crosses and strive to be the man that you were called to be through prayer and asceticism in Exodus 90.
You have nothing to lose and your friends, family and community have everything to gain.

Intuitive UI, Clean Design, Incredibly Useful

Having been through Exodus 90 once before with the book, I was highly skeptical about using an app this time around. To my surprise, Exodus90 was not only more convenient than the book but it truly helped our fraternity stay more accountable throughout the spiritual exercise—and in turn, made the entire experience more fruitful.

I love how Exodus90 simplifies every part of the journey—communication/accountability with the fraternity, daily readings and meditations, and notes for personal reflection. And as someone who works in marketing for a living I’m quite picky (read highly critical) about UI, aesthetic design, and functionality of apps. I can’t believe how intuitive and clean Exodus90 is; especially for a small nonprofit. It’s truly incredible what the Exodus 90 team has created and I can’t wait for additional features to be released!

Beyond Exodus90 , the journey through Exodus 90 has truly been life changing. It’s been years since I’ve had a fraternity like my Exodus group and I owe my thanks to this organization.

Very decent App with good UI and functionality

Overall a very solid app. This is my second time though Ex90 and have discovered a few things that you could consider for future improvement:
1) Consider adding an “email” option or text for each person. Similar to Flocknote. We had one guy that only communicated by email vs text. Also, although unprecedented, have the ability to do group calls maybe?
2) The overall “How are you” thumbs up, neutral or down is great. One other thing to really hold accountability would be to have a simple Habit Tracker type interface for each discipline. I’ve notice when weekly mtgs come around men forget how well or not they really did with various disciplines. Also something I would use regularly after Ex90.
3) I’m not sure why, but both of my Ex90 the guys have suggested using different texting apps; one just the iPhone messaging, and the other was telegram. Not sure why, but something to look into.

It’s a great program but needs to be on paper

The spiritual value of the program and the depth of the content is undeniable. The life of prayer, fraternity and asceticism it promotes has brought great changes in my life and I continue to use it with my fraternity. Exodus90 has also been improving over the years. The only problem I have is that one of my main obstacles to vanquish is reducing my screen time. The first round of E90 has a book in print for that. But none of the program is available in print after that.

As a result I spend screen time when I’m praying which is distracting to me or others when I’m at church, or even worse, shines screen light on my eyes at home at times when I’m trying to wind down. Sometimes the screen time spent reading Exodus90 at bedtime is enough for keeping me awake all night. And here I am, being asked to write a review for Exodus90 Store when I’m supposed to be praying.

I’ve contacted the E90 team suggesting this program needs to be on paper, but to no avail. Still, I admire and thank them and pray for them for their amazing and transforming work.

It really does help free you

Excellent program. Highly recommend to anyone seeking to grow closer to God and be a better man, husband, or father. I’ve been attached to many things that have distracted me from growing closer to God. I’m about 45 days into Exodus 90, and my spiritual life, family life, and personal joy and peace are much better and more consistent than before Exodus 90. Well worth the $10/month ($30 total) and pays for itself with the money you won’t spend because you’re being disciplined in not making unnecessary purchases, not eating between meals, not drinking alcohol, etc. — all of which have helped free me from things I didn’t even realize I was attached to/dependent upon. Love it. My wife has said she even wants to do a similar program after seeing what it’s doing for me.

Thank you James, Nathaniel, and all at Exodus 90! Men need this and so do their families!

GOD only calls his own

“The gatekeeper opens it for him, and the sheep hear his voice, as he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has driven out all his own, he walks ahead of them, and the sheep follow him, because they recognize his voice. But they will not follow a stranger; they will run away from him, because they do not recognize the voice of strangers.” JOHN 10:3-5

If you’re here considering this spiritual exercise then recognize that GOD is the one calling you. So if today you hear his voice harden not your heart and commit to following him where he leads you. If you do, then it will start changing your life in ways you cannot imagine. I don’t expect to “return to Egypt” after this (my first time in the Exodus 90 journey - 2021) and can see myself in the Exodus 90 program indefinitely. Peace be with you on your own journey in whatever you decide.

Worth the sacrifices

I love growing with God through this program. The disciplines seem tough at first, but that’s because we’re soft. I’ve been able to reprioritize and rid myself of distractions that separated me from God and my family. It’s allowed me to join a fraternity of me with diverse backgrounds and life experiences, growing in a friendship centered in re-forming ourselves to be the men that Christ wants us to be. That our families need us to be. That our communities and the world need us to be.

It’s neither easy nor impossible. Falling down requires you to get up and not simply lay on the canvas. With Exodus you share the struggles, the joys, the laughter and the tears. You give but you receive much, much more in return.

Give it a chance. Don’t fear failure. You’re worth it. Your family is worth it. This program is worth it.

Developing Fraternity

One of the participants in a regular parish meeting of the Catholic Men’s Fellowship recommenced Exodus to me and I am glad that I did the exercise. I am one of the founders of the Catholic Men’s Fellowship and I have been to a group meeting over Saturday morning for the past 35 years, finding spiritual grown in every one of them. In the meetings I find strength in the sharing which is a source of actual grace to me personally.
As a result I was not looking for Fraternity in Exodus but I did find Prayer and Asceticism to be very valuable. It is not that prayer and self- sacrifice are not taught in the fellowship but Exodus makes them concrete and accountable through interaction on the Internet.
I regularly recommend Exodus to my fellowship groups as an individual program. Fraternity is an integral component of the spiritual exercise and agree that it should be, I but did not have success with the ad hoc group that I formed - the affinity did not develop as it has in CMF parish setting.

Just do it

Exodus has been a pivotal experience in my life and I’d recommend it to any Catholic man. You honestly don’t realize how much you need to do it until you do it. And if you’re considering it but are making excuses about why it’s impossible for you because of whatever special reason - that’s probably a signal that you just need to knuckle down and do it. Trust me.

(I guess this is meant to be a review of Exodus90 itself... it’s fine, does the job, looks OK without being flashy. One minor thing is that I wish they’d fix the display of the swipe bar at the bottom of the screen on Face ID phones. It sometimes creates a big white block at the bottom of Exodus90 which drives me crazy. Needless to say you should not take this as an excuse to not do Exodus.)

Exodus 90: Focused Formation

On the whole., I enjoyed using the Exodus app for Exodus 90. As I told my wife, “This program helped me live the life I have wanted to live for some time, but did not have the focus to pursue.”
I think many men will value the ability to track one’s progress with the various disciplines, as well as benefit from the reflections specific to Exodus 90.

I do have the following recommendations.
-I did not appreciate the truncation of specific passages of scripture. For example, in Covenant Crag (Day 23), the passage is Genesis 16:1-12, but the only verses provided are Gn. 16:1-7 and 11-12. I think many would benefit from reading the entirety of the passage.
-Some of the reflections (in Reflection Oasis and Covenant Crag) seemed “forced;” that is, focused on one word or image from the passage of scripture that seems to miss the point of the passage of force a point of view on the passage itself.
-I think there should be a few more disciplines relating to one’s fraternity. During Exodus 90, my fraternity noticed that there are robust prayerful and ascetic disciplines, but only two disciplines associated with one’s fraternity.

On the whole, I am very thankful for Exodus90, the creators, and all those who participate and pray for each other during their Exodus. I am eager to go on my second Exodus, and beyond.

Well worth it.

As a Christian Catholic or a Catholic Christian, however you want to say it...I can say that Exodus 90 has been WELL worth it. It has been difficult, me and my fraternity have not been “perfect” at the disciplines but we have grown closer to God and to each other. There is something magical about a group of men invested in their relationship with God in a way that puts every day to the test. Doing Exodus 90 has taught me about discipline, the strength God provides us all, the power of grace, and the hope of freedom from being a slave to all the little pleasure bursts we don’t even know we are relying on outside of our Lord. Highly recommend. I will be doing E90 every January every year now as a way to renew my hope and love for and in Jesus. Thank you for making this program. I am blessed to have participated.

Freedom and formation

I have completed 2 Exodus 90 programs and have enjoyed the fruits of 2 years of formation through the Biblical series. I was tempted to buy the physical book during the initial 90 days and skip the online content but am glad I did not. Pairing the content of the program with the gospel of the day, laying out the program on a calendar, writing journal entries, and the ongoing formation has been a consistent and invaluable part of my journey these past 2 years. I like the change of format to the Biblical series as well as the new Advent program. I am looking forward to the Lenten program and the new second set of reflections through Exodus. Formation, asceticism, and fraternity to let God lead me towards my “why.” Thanks guys, and God bless!

Rating bug -FIXED

This was my original review, but the devs responded quickly and professionally. I’ve adjusted my rating accordingly.

[Original Review]
So originally my review was much higher, but now every time I use Exodus90 , the notification asking me to rate it pops up. Even after I rated it. It’s been ruining the experience as I can’t get 5-10 minutes in of using Exodus90 for reading or messaging my group without the notification popping up. It’s a serious turn off. As far as the Exodus 90 program itself is concerned. It’s great. First year I did it without Exodus90 . Definitely a worthy endeavor for every man to undertake. My 1 star review is based on this really annoying bug. I’ll update if fixed.

Bugs and glitches

Hey guys, I’d like to start by saying how helpful and insightful Exodus90 has been for my exodus preparation and journey. This is my first time doing Exodus 90, and I wm beyond excited.

The reason I’m writing this review is because Exodus90 itself is very glitchy on my iPhone 11. When I try to click on different headings and things within Exodus90 , they often do not load at all and I am having to reset Exodus90 multiple times in order to combat this problem. For example, when I try and click on my my prayer section or discipline section, I have to try multiple times and reset Exodus90 multiple times before it will even open that section.
Thank you all so much for your hard work developing Exodus90, and I hope my feedback helps.

Exodus 90 Is What the Church Needs

Few follow this program to the letter because it is so demanding. When one comes to the humble realization of how little one is willing to do for a God who died for each of us, Exodus 90 has done its job. It will also set one’s mind to the task of appearing before God with all of one’s concerns, worries, and wishes and allowing him to share his with us. (I know there’s theology to be quibbled about there, but let that go for the moment). It is a transformative program. Exodus90 would probably get a harsher review if it was just software. But it is more than that. It is an adjunct to a program that can change individual men and so change the Church by orienting then to the call to virtue and to the Christ who died to make that calling answerable.

Be the Man You Are Called To Be

I highly, highly recommend Exodus90 and this way of life. I brought together some men in the parish three years ago, men who did not know each other before that. We experienced Exodus 90 together, and have been working our way through Day 91 exercises ever since. We have become a very tight knit group of men and have experienced a deeper level of community and a closer relationship with Christ. Exodus has become a way of life for us. We have systematically read through the Scriptures. The reflections are excellent, and the daily Gospel reflections are also outstanding. Get a group of men together, get Exodus90, and prepare for your life to change. Be the man God is calling you to be.

Just what I needed

I’ve always been confident that I was doing an “ok” job of being a good Catholic husband and father. I was “meeting the requirements “ but also subjecting myself to compromised morals through television and media. I was comfortable but I was longing to be better.
When my brother mentioned Exodus 90 to me, it was an immediate “yes”. He didn’t even tell me the details. I found out later. Prior to my Exodus 90 journey, It’s been a long time since I’ve had a good 40 day Lenten experience. As rigorous as I thought the disciplines do Exodus 90 would be, I actually was very refreshing for me.
I’m on the third exercise now, Covenant Crag. I’m enjoying the readings and reflections and look forward to our weekly meetings.

Great program, pretty good app

Exodus truly helps free you from what is tying you down, it allows you to see what life should be.
Exodus90 is pretty good. It allows you to chat with the group, read the reflections, and see what you need for exodus. The chat is a little buggy, you can’t share images well and can’t click on them to pull them up, and sometimes it gives you trouble navigating between things. Overall it does it’s job, but wish it was a little smoother, but maybe that’s just one more thing to offer up. Would definitely recommend using so you can keep in contact with your group.
Excited to see what the future exercises are going to unveil
