I agree with James McCarty, Trackerguy, and Maui Kid. This was listed on AppAdvice on April 16th and now it feels like a bait-and-switch by the developer. Within HOURS of being posted on AppAdvice, it was changed to a subscription app. Very shifty.
While I can appreciate charging for premium features like cloud sync and unlimited verses, the free version is all but useless since it only allows you to work on ONE verse. Come on, buddy!
Allowing 10 verses in a free version is hardly an UNLIMITED amount and it would better showcase MemorizeByHeart ’s utility. I also support James McCarty’s objection to the limitation on each memory game. Again, SHOWCASE MemorizeByHeart and stop pestering us to upgrade to something we can’t even play with.
Regarding the “Lifetime” subscription, charging $40 puts WAY too much risk on the consumer. At some point the developer will stop supporting it or will run into issues with future iOS versions. What then?! $40/$19 means my ROI > 2.1 years. A lot can happen during that time.
In the end, I would not recommend MemorizeByHeart in its current state. I’d wait for the developer to add more verses and revamp his cost model, then give it another look. Offering another promo on AppAdvice and/or restoring full functionality to the current suite of memory games could also help win people back.
