Great but UPGRADE to be a study material

This is a great app to learn Kanji and it's has a good simple interface but the interface is compact and simple to the point it doesn't straight forward tell me quickly.

To read a kanji's meaning in two different ways One will have to tap the words to cycle through it. This should be a setting to turn off and on to minimize and un minimize the meaning complicity on screen.

Then (as im using the free version) I would like to do my own set of kanji write with LearnJapaneseKanjiandKana , than combing other kanji words I don't want to encounter or know as a study material.

then have an exercise to fill in the blanks to simple sentences.

Lastly maybe turn off and on the perfect writing to allow others to progress in there adventure into learning Kanji.

Overall LearnJapaneseKanjiandKana is great and something I look for. But as study material not so much.

I love this app, but sometimes the stroke recognition is annoying

I love LearnJapaneseKanjiandKana. And it’s helped me learn most of the hiragana very fast. Except for “R” group, which some reason denies my handwriting attempt, because I know I’m writing the characters correctly, but LearnJapaneseKanjiandKana refuses to recognize the input, and this gets frustrating.

I will ask some fellow Japanese native speakers to try writing the R group and see if it’s just me or it’s LearnJapaneseKanjiandKana .

Otherwise I would have definitely given this a 5/5.

Wish it wasn’t anal about stroke order

My handwriting is very neat, I even use a stylus to ensure it is; and yet even when I trace perfectly over the sample lines, if I don’t do so in the exact stroke order which LearnJapaneseKanjiandKana insists upon, it is marked wrong. This is frustrating during practice/“learning,” but when the quiz mode is activated, it’s even more frustrating because without the guidelines you’re second guessing whether your character really is too ugly or incorrect, or whether it’s perfect but merely not in LearnJapaneseKanjiandKana ’s preferred stroke order.

great app, too strict on writings

i love LearnJapaneseKanjiandKana! i learned all of hiragana already but was having some troubles with katakana for some reason. i read about some good apps for katakana, and this was on the list. i downloaded LearnJapaneseKanjiandKana , tried out the first set of katakana and hiragana, and bought the full sets. it’s such a helpful app!
my one complain is that the AI built into LearnJapaneseKanjiandKana is WAY too strict, but i mean it’s an AI, it’s programmed like that. but, i draw タ、チ、ケ or anything else and it’s not 100% perfect, i get it wrong, making the statistics insane and not correct.
overall, i give LearnJapaneseKanjiandKana 4.5/5 with only one main flaw. amazing app, keep it up! (also, great price!(〃ω〃) )

Love this app! But.....

I really love LearnJapaneseKanjiandKana. It’s super helpful, and you really get to know the Japanese characters by the time the test comes around. However.... I think it needs to be fix just a little bit for the character “hi” in hiragana... you have to be super accurate for it to mark what you did as correct. I haven’t been able to finish that section because it keeps repeating “hi” over and over again, and I can only get it super accurate so many times... and e more you get it wrong the more it undoes you’re progress, and I should only have three more to do till the exam, but I get it wrong once or twice and now I have 5 more to do... that character is super sensitive... please fix it! And hopefully no other characters are like that!

Blown away by this app’s quality

I don’t write reviews normally, but LearnJapaneseKanjiandKana was so good I had to. After being frustrated by duolingo refusing to teach me kanji, I downloaded LearnJapaneseKanjiandKana to finally learn kanji correctly. It is difficult, but I am ACTUALLY learning kanji, instead of just guessing. The fee for premium is only $5, and it’s a one time fee(no annoying subscription) and it’s very much worth it. LearnJapaneseKanjiandKana is simple, well designed, and self paced, no pop up’s or ads or gold coins to collect. In one day, I’ve learned 10x what I would’ve learned through duolingo. Pair LearnJapaneseKanjiandKana with a grammar app to actually learn Japanese.

perfect hands-on studying approach

LearnJapaneseKanjiandKana really has everything you need to learn the kana. The immediate response totally beats writing the letters alone by hand and checking your own work. The AI uses the perfect combination of strict recognition to make sure you really are getting the character right and lenient to account for human inconsistencies and handwriting. The drill mode makes it easy to learn and the exam mode makes it easy to refresh and reinforce. And the robot is super cute.

I have other apps for helping me study and recognize the kana, but when it comes to actually learning to write each letter, Robokana is the only app you need!

One of the best I’ve seen. One suggestion though.

LearnJapaneseKanjiandKana is really good. I’ve been using it for one day and it’s already helping. There is one thing that I think would help: add a way to sign in into a profile and have it to where you can sign on multiple devices. The problem that I have is that I only have this downloaded on an iPad that I don’t have a lot of the time. I feel like if I could also do it on my phone without paying again would be helpful. But otherwise, I really like LearnJapaneseKanjiandKana AND it really does help!

Love this app!

I love LearnJapaneseKanjiandKana! It’s beautiful and it does exactly what you need to learn the hiragana and katakana, including stroke order. Give it a try. You start following along and slowly it takes away the guides until you’re doing it yourself. Come back every day and you’ll notice how much you’ve learned. I think it is perfect for absolute beginners so I’m giving it 5 stars. For more advanced learners, I would like the ability to turn off the romaji and more quizing options, such as a random mix of characters, including mixing the hiragana and katana together.

Just started and I’m already learning a lot

So I got LearnJapaneseKanjiandKana today and I’ve been doing it on and off and I’ve learned a I e o u in hiragana and the same in katakana and I just learned ka ki ke ko ku in hiragana, I can write them and I remember their names too! LearnJapaneseKanjiandKana is fun too and it shows the pronunciation. I love it and I haven’t paid for it but the paying is cheap only 6 dollars and that’s not a subscription it’s just pay now unlock the rest forever. And LearnJapaneseKanjiandKana has KANJI too. Kanji kanji kanjiii eek! Best Japanese writing app I’ve ever used.

Extremely good for visual learners

Im not someone who usually writes reviews, but I felt like I was obligated to with LearnJapaneseKanjiandKana. I love the face how it gets to the point and it doesn’t stretch things out. I also like the face it wont let you move on until you get it right. Ive been looking for a good writing app to practice hiragana without having to already know it, and I’d definitely recommend this one. I don’t exactly do well with flash cards since its just a one-and-done, so Ive been struggling to find an app the doesn’t have those. When I came across this, (I had my doubts at first), but it turned to be a genuinely great learning app if you want to start your japanese language journey.

Excellent learning tool!

I had a hard time learning the Japanese writing system writing freehand. The ability to use my Apple Pencil on my iPad and trace, over and over without having to print anything out, as many times as I needed, was extremely helpful. I’d call this a “must have” app for anyone new to Japanese. Writing the characters out also helps you remember them, as opposed to just reading. Finally, I love the option to choose my pen color and the calligraphy pen option!

pleasantly suprised !

i commonly forget the stroke order of kana characters and i mix them up often. i was looking for a good app that has me write the characters over and over to drill them in my brain. LearnJapaneseKanjiandKana absolutely delivers ! very good price point for what is being offered and i really like the brush that is used. most apps just give you a monoline brush tool that makes everything you write look rather.. unpleasant. the brush in LearnJapaneseKanjiandKana makes my writing look a lot better. i love that little detail. the AI isn't too strict from what i've seen, it has messed up a few times but i can't really be too upset about it, it's AI after all. and regardless, it performs well. i really appreciate LearnJapaneseKanjiandKana !! (╹◡╹)

Well worth the seven dollars

The full version of LearnJapaneseKanjiandKana is $6.99 and is honestly a steal. The graphics are much better than most inexpensive kana/kanji learning apps out there and I really like how the kanji are broken down. As someone who can’t afford WaniKani, I can say that LearnJapaneseKanjiandKana is a perfect supplement to my Japanese learning with the Genki workbook. Stroke order is super important and even for my ADHD brain LearnJapaneseKanjiandKana makes it less miserable to practice.

Amazing but so annoying

I love LearnJapaneseKanjiandKana, I’m taking Japanese 1 this semester and it’s helped me memorized things on the go. The only thing that just annoys me so much is the fact that if you don’t get the stroke order perfectly but know the character it resets your progress little by little. Then I just have that one stroke order stuck in my head slowly forgetting the one I previously memorized. Then there’s the fact that if you have different devices even if it’s linked to the same iTunes account it won’t save the progress to the other device. But those are my only complaints. You guys should make an app or section for kanji too, would definitely buy 😆!

Works pretty well so far.

I’ve only gone through あ and か so far but helpful. I was looking at three different places for flash cards stroke order and charts so it’s nice to have it one spot.

What I like is that you ca. practice one group at a time. A lot of the other practice apps let you do one group and then boom they’re adding all of them. I’m obviously not there so this is a great application for a beginner like myself.

Best app for learning how to write in Japanese!

I love LearnJapaneseKanjiandKana and hope they continue to add to it. I most often use it on my iPad which makes it pretty fun with the pencil. I would love to see more quiz options to make it more challenging with different voices, removing the romaji, or more precision with the strokes. I often use LearnJapaneseKanjiandKana as a refresher when I stop studying too long. Thank y’all for making LearnJapaneseKanjiandKana!!

This app is essential to my learning. Small feedback

LearnJapaneseKanjiandKana is great because it lets you practice writing and tracing in groups, while slowly taking away the letter you’re tracing.

I wish you could have the letter appear after you write it to confirm because it does not always judge me as I would want. I like to look at every small detail of the letter to be Kris critical with myself.

It would be a cool setting if the letter starting point at max height/width showed on the page so I could try to match my letter exactly to theirs. Then the letter shows at the end to confirm how correct I was.

LearnJapaneseKanjiandKana is awesome because it teaches you muscle memory. The above would let me do that even better.

Thanks for this great app!

Thank you

LearnJapaneseKanjiandKana has massively accelerated my learning of Japanese! I cannot thank the creator enough. It’s so so much better and more visceral than using flashcards, Anki or Duolingo style-apps to master the characters. I hope the the creator will also release additional Kanji for Level JLPT N4, 3, 2 & 1, I would gladly pay the same amount to unlock each of those levels as in-app purchases.

Potential to be one of the best

Although it’s not perfect, out of all the kanji learning apps I’ve downloaded and used I think this is possibly one of the best. Not a lot of apps have a function to test writing and this is one of the few that does it well in terms of simplicity of LearnJapaneseKanjiandKana and needs.

The biggest thing holding it back however is the set list unfortunately. It does not have the full N1 and N2 list which is understandable since they are a small team and there is A LOT of N1 words and kanji. Maybe there’s a possibility of releasing it in batches instead of all at once, that would make N1 a little less daunting.

One thing I wish it would have though is the option to not repeat kanjis/words if they’ve already been shown once. It does make reviewing big kanji set lists repetitive if trying to test ourselves but other than that LearnJapaneseKanjiandKana is great for intermediate level learners and until they can achieve the full set list it has the potential to be a must pick app for Japanese kanji learning.
