About Weather Lab

The first 3D radar on iPhone® and iPad®, Weather Lab is for meteorologists, storm chasers, atmospheric scientists, pilots, or weather enthusiasts that want more than just a friendly forecasting app and are looking to get the most out of weather radar data.

Vertical Slice (Weather Lab PRO) - Cut through the radar volume vertically, creating a "wall" of data to allow instant interpretation of what is happening through all altitudes at once.

Horizontal Slice (Weather Lab PRO) - Since any given scan ascends through the altitudes at an angle, a mental leap is required to understand what is happening at a single altitude.

Weather Lab PRO provides you access to all scans in the volume, giving you the full spatial picture from which to visualize the structure of a storm.

Volume - View the radar as four combined 3D isosurfaces, giving you the at-a-glance ability to understand the big picture.

Weather Lab: Gives you the richness, power, and fluid control you demand to help you gain an advanced model of weather events across the country.

Scan - Display radar in the form in which it was captured: A full circle scan pointing into the sky at a constant elevation angle.

NEXRAD radars continuously scan a 3D picture of the skies using one of several predetermined volume coverage patterns (VCP).

The ability to view radar in 3D helps create a better mental model and improves situational awareness.

Weather Lab PRO subscription payment will be charged to iTunes Account at confirmation of purchase.

I had the application on another iPhone that fell in the water while fishing and was ruined. It was not backed up. I am trying to find out how to re-download my paid version of weather lab. Any help is appreciated

Needs some tweaks, but great potential!

Don’t get me wrong, this is a great app that has lots of potential. BUT I feel like this was released a bit soon. There are some small tweaks that really should’ve been in the initial release, like being able to make the compass point north by tapping it, the ability to show your current location on the map and go to the closest radar site, and show storm cell info and tracks. Also on my wish list, but not as important to me: lightning strikes, showing smaller towns’ names, and the ability to customize the radar colors. Also, I’ve noticed the radar image not updating when I return to WeatherLab after a while. I have to force close WeatherLab and open it back up to see the latest image. With all that said, WeatherLab is beautiful...the 3D graphics and smoothing are nice features that we haven’t seen before on this class of iPhone app. And as features are added, I could see this being the iOS equivalent of GRLevel2, and I can’t wait to see where it goes!

A must have - yet needs more thought.

I had to get this amazing app when I saw it. No other mobile app has such features! It’s incredible. This can beat Radar Scope in so many ways! On the other hand, It was a bit of a let down to find that some simple features are only in pro. Now, i do know how it does not cost anything to acquire radar data from the NWS. Therefore, velocity should be included free. People who will purchase WeatherLab will purchase because of its 3D feature and that’s what pro should hold most of. So it would make sense to pay for the stuff you guys have to render and “work” on. It’s kind of stealing, people pay for free data. To conclude, leave NEXRAD reflectivity and velocity free, along with volumetric and cut through. And then pay for the rest go the radar data’s and 3d features. Thanks for making this awesome app!

Weather lab is awesome

I love being able now to look at storms looking through it from the side, instead of just looking at it from an above view angle.

There are only a couple things I would like to be able to do, and they are an ability to measure how far away from a certain location a storm is, and the ability to switch the map from a city view to a county view. I know of no weather apps that do this, and being a storm chaser, every warning is put out with naming the counties involved, with a sub-naming the cities that a storm is heading for.

Thanks for making WeatherLab, it store beats spending a great amount more for a program like it.

Lots of Potential

Great foundation has been laid with WeatherLab in version 1.5.

A few critiques... 1) Allow the large banner in the top right to be hidden with just the timestamp visible. 2) Need an easy way to export images and GIF animations so we can publicize your app even more on social media! 3) Allow the compass to be invisible in the top right corner AND allow it to be tapped to quickly go to straight north orientation. 4) Am I missing it or is there not a way to make “current location” not visible on the map quickly?

Lots of potential!! Great job!

Potential

WeatherLab has the potential to rival GR2 in my opinion. But to do that it needs some additions. Adding major cities at minimum would be useful. Follow Radarscopes design for this. I would also add a stop button or something to reset the loop back to the current frame. I will likely add to this as I play around with WeatherLab . No it isn’t as detailed as GR2, but I personally use that software for the almost same reasons I can use WeatherLab.

Amazing App!

I’m not a weather professional, just a curious person who wants to know more about the world around me. I have to say that WeatherLab is amazing! The 3D radar is beautiful and very captivating to explore. I’m surprised that anyone would give a negative review considering that WeatherLab does what NO other app is capable of. Sounds like some user error, since 3D is clearly available on the basic package- you just have to click the cube icon.

Potential is high, but so much is locked.

The amount of things locked is almost ridiculous. I expected everything said in the promotional material at best (which was my mistake, didn’t notice the **PRO** up there), and at worst at least elevation options.
For the base of WeatherLab, which is 3$, you get.

Reflectivity scan on a 0.5° angle
a 3D model of the earth
3D modeling of the storm structure; unfortunately you cannot edit it to make it different colors or more transparent, etc.
this borderline seems like a rip, or maybe I’m just overreacting.

The horizontal and vertical slice require a 10$ yearly subscription, just so other people looking to buy WeatherLab, know.
All an all; Great idea, currently mediocre execution.

Perfect For 3D Storm Rendering

GRLevel2 on iPhone! Perfect!
SUGGESTION: Please include an “inspector” tool so that it’s possible to zoom in and get the actual numerical values for Dbz and velocity data. Those familiar with RadarScope likely know what the color values are, but others who don’t use RadarScope or equivalent may be lost when looking for what the color display data is for a specific area.

Recommendations

If you can add hail%, severe hail % and hail size that would great

Can you also fix the problem where some of the warnings will disappear and also can you add real time warnings instead of waiting for the next radar update to put the warning in

And lastly if you can add special weather statements that would be great also

Great Application and Tool for Storm Analysis

Love the ability to vertically slice through convection or precipitation. Also love the 3D perspective of reflectivity. Great for displaying, teaching, or researching how different phenomena occur.

My only suggestion would be to have the ability to add severe thunderstorm and tornado watches by the SPC and storm based warning polygons by the National Weather Service .

Awesome app but needs a share feature.

This is a awesome app but I’m only giving it 4 stars because it needs a share feature that allows you to share a radar image or loop. When a share feature is added I will give WeatherLab 5 stars.

Amazing app but needs a few more features

WeatherLab is amazing I love it I thought I would never see a 3D Radar app for iOS but it need features such as warnings and watches it would also be nice to have storm track even timing for how long it will be for a storm get to a certain place.

#1 Weather Radar App !!!

This is the IOS app that I’ve been searching for. You must subscribe for the Pro edition to see the full potential. Of course, the larger the screen the better, I use a 12.9 IPad Pro. Each update allows you to maneuver the various scan features easier. Great job !!!

Great visuals, useful tools, no ads

I’ve been a developer for 17 years and I know how hard it is to make something with this kind of quality. WeatherLab is worth every penny. I also appreciate the focus on keeping things serious. Great visuals, useful tools, no ads, etc. keep up the awesome work.

GRAnalyst (lite) for a fraction of the cost

I LOVE WeatherLab!! I am a closet weather geek who has way to many weather apps. I don’t know why it took me so long to find this.

WeatherLab lets you peer into storms and see what’s going on in 3D. You can rotate the view, take slices either horizontally or vertical (pro subscription), or look at many other features of weather based on NWS NEXRAD radar stations.

The only downside is that you don’t get a national overview of radar so you can choose which area to delve into.

If you are a weather nerd, it’s hard to be disappointed in WeatherLab.
