Great Game, Tons Of Crashing

The Game is good so far with a bunch of content, playable classes, etc., but there are some stuff that I’m having problems with. First of all (and this is a common one) is the crashing. Like I know, games like this one can sometimes crash and that’s okay, but the crashes in this game are EXTREMELY common. Like, I can get past the first few story missions with this crashing. Heck, I reinstalled MapleStoryM and it’s still doing it. This also makes the game annoying to play with these crashes.
The second one is auto-quest. This is another problem people say in this game that the auto-quest makes the game “not enjoyable.” If I had a request, I would say to put an option to turn on auto-quest or not to make the game more enjoyable.
These two problems makes it a problem for people to handle and I don’t care about it (except the crashing), but if you can fix the crashing problem for the most part for those who play on older devices, then the game will be more enjoyable for those who play on those devices.
Also, I wonder if this game will be remastered for the PC in the future or a release on the Nintendo Switch, PS4, or stuff like that. If this is confirmed, that will be so surprising for all the players. Thank you for reading this review and have a good time.

Nostalgia Fades and Desires not met

Maplestory M is an amazing short adventure. When you build up x amount of characters to 100 and enjoy each of their great array of abilities, it has you asking now what?! The content afterward is lacking any thrill, or substantial reward, especially for free to play players. The dungeons and activities that are available during 100+ are easy and insufficient in providing any reward that is worth the effort. This games main prize is its classes, which has striking abilities that captivates you as you hit every key level 30,60,100, but after you have achieved these levels, why would you continue with maple story’s over priced store, when all that truly matters is hooking players enough to want to invest.

In my opinion if they improve the process during 100+ to be more engaging and rewarding (providing things to improve characters appearance, since thats all players really want since the game becomes of ease) it would make us want to spend more and play more! Also, put things in the store that players want, why would players spend $40-70 to upgrade a weapon or gear when the content is easy enough, put better priced appearance items for free to play and pay to win players alike, add content that takes us to beautiful adventures, and cool co-op opportunities. If this is met it would easily be 5 stars, unfortunately its lacking Higher level/End Game content that feeds the players to continue on!

Well done!

So far I am enjoying this game! It’s the rebirth of the classic we have all waited for! Non-stop mob smashin pixelized anime action at its finest! But there are a few drawbacks that have been mentioned in other reviews and I’d have to agree with some of them. Although I enjoy the game as a whole, I feel my ability to play has been suppressed! Part of being an “Explorer” entails exploring, but auto quest is the death of the exploration and over all “free feel” of the game. While I understand some players preference of this feature, and also acknowledge my own use of it at times, at this point there is no point to toggle it off without losing the guidance arrow. Isn’t that a little odd.. While being forcibly directed directly to your destination there is an arrow to guide you in the direction of the quest. But as soon as you turn off the Auto Quest feature, the arrow directing you towards the destination vanishes. Between myself and the A.I., I feel I would benefit more from that arrow. As has been suggested in many reviews, I think the auto quest feature needs to be reworked, giving Maple fans the freedom to take on quest and become actively engaged in the game. At this point quests seem more like an Anime short film rather than a game. I press a button on the remote and simply watch the events unfold. I’d like to be able to participate, but receive some guidance in doing so.

Dream to Fruition

I spent most of my summer free time playing MS in high school for years, then I got busy and hours in front of the computer for gaming became unrealistic. I think a common wish of mine was that MS got a nice portable port, but alas, we got one unrecognizable one years ago that was unplayable. This one is exactly what I wanted. It doesn’t feel limited or small (outside of community size). It feels true to the PC game I remember but with the added ability to make grinding less ... of a grind, with auto modes. Leveling is also a bit easier than I remember too. There is a lot of handholding here, even when it comes to character building but all of it is optional. It makes the game a lot more accessible to new game/genre players, as well as giving the game a more casual feel if it’s what you are looking for. Because I’m and adult now, I don’t have my parents’ credit cards on file anymore to rack up purchases but it seems unnecessary thus far and it is allegedly very possible to play this game without irl currency. Time will tell though, as I remember this was also a difficult feat on PC.

Wow

I can’t believe this game doesn’t at least have support for iPhone 6 or people with 5s it is old technology but not THAT old not to mention there’s really good higher quality games like darkness rises that is entirely 3D has integrated bosses co op guilds everything you could ask for and then some and above all SUPPORTS iPhone 6 platforms now if you think I’m nitpicking maple story has been on the AppStore for years changing hands and licensing causing older versions to be removed from the store but those knew how to support my platform those have capability and online and support my platform, if you think you can’t possibly support my platform you’re sorely mistaken this game has been here for years and was able to support my end now it doesn’t when it should be and it frustrates me that I now can’t play it I mean in all honesty it’s a pixely lookin game it’s really shouldn’t be that hard to make it play easier and play smoothly I mean if I can play a game like darkness rises with 3D graphics all the fx all the action all the online integration and not have issues like here then what then. You have ability to make it for my platform I know you do so make it happen integrate new settings for lower quality I don’t know it’s just a shame I can’t play it AND HERES THE THING YOU SHOW ON THE APPSTORE IT HAS COMPATIBILITY FOR MY PHONE YET IN GAME IF YOU LOOK AT THE DETAILS IT SAYS NOT COMPATIBLE STOP LYING AT LEAST make some changes and make it work because this is ridiculous

Auto needs to be an option, not the default.

Maplestory as a game is fantastic on pc, the questlines, the equipment to find, equip and level up, the overarching stories and the boss battles, all amazing!

Maplestory M is a better port than i give it credit for, MMO controls are hard to depict and even harder to get used to on a touchscreen, but nonetheless it wasnt long before i got used to them, a lot of the features seem to be here, this is all excellent but my main issue is this:

Auto navigation and battle, this is not a bad thing to have! It is perfectly fine if you want to cut corners and get things done, and with certain items, even instantly! All of this is perfectly fine but theres an exception... Auto is the default mode in which the game is set to and there is no option to leave it disabled as a default, you can only cancel it mid-travel, this does not hinder ones gameplay experience but it does make this classic MMO feel like an on-rails experience, as a veteran all i ask for this port is to give the player the choice to enable or disable it, and thank you for reading this comment, dear reader, i wish this port only the best and that as the years go on that it only improves and gets recognized for it!

Updates/Patches take forever to download

The new update from last night won’t start on my phone. I keep waiting for 30 minutes and the download stays at 0%. I try to restart MapleStoryM but it does the same thing. So I currently can’t play anymore so I might delete MapleStoryM . When I first downloaded MapleStoryM , the additional resources also took HOURS to download and I almost gave up because every time I left MapleStoryM , the download stopped and I’d have to restart.

When I was able to play it felt very nostalgic, like the old MS I remember from like 10 years ago. My MS addiction came back, but it’s not the same as PC play since the phone screen is so small and you can only have so many keys on the screen at a time. It made me want to get back into it on PC but MS on PC has changed so much and I can’t keep up.

For MapleStoryM, I would recommend there to be an option to turn off auto-play every time you pick up a new quest. It’s annoying to cancel auto-play and you end up somewhere else on the map. Unless this new patch already fixed that, but I wouldn’t know. Also the refresh of the keys on the right should refresh to the next set of keys that you set so that we can have more attacks or buffs than the usual 5.

EXP and Meso (cash), Rewards

I personally think that this game is great... Reminds me of the good old days with friends grinding this game. Now it’s here again... but on smartphone... Quests and Dungeons and challenges, no complains about it... But please make the game a bit easier, more main quests and especially with meso... I’m having some trouble with grinding lv and meso at the same time even though I’m level 93 rn... Takes like 1 hour to level up because they have no more quest for me and I have to wait for the next level, forcing me to go for Mini Dungeons and Star Force Field, which takes a lot of time... One last thing.... I also want u guys, the producer to know that we spent hours on this game to get level 100 but the rewards are just bad and not really worth it... Should’ve given out milestones reward and weapons or something to keep the player going to even higher... I know this game is new so fix it before it get too big... Especially with the Leveling System and Rewards...Thanks

Crashes To Much To Enjoy.

This is a good game when I can play it for a little while before it crashes from just opening MapleStoryM . I don’t mind spending a few $ on a good game that I really like to play a lot with nice clothes and other items. I like the artwork and the combat system. I like the different classes and their stories. I really like the character customization too. What made me uninstall this was only the fact that it crashes to much and that kills my motivation to play especially when I’m trying to grind or questing and the game crashes. I have a iPhone 6+ with the latest software update. I’ve noticed that while I’m questing or doing dungeons the game runs okay for awhile and maybe will crash but a lot of times don’t until way later but if I’m using the UI for anything like trying to use the forge system the game will crash instantly 99.9% of the time so I think … at least in my case and could be others case as well that using the UI is what is mainly crashing players games. Other than that though it is a really great game. 🔥 I’ll change my review to 5 ⭐️’s if the crashing is ever fixed but until then I’ll have to unfortunately uninstall it as its literally unplayable. Hopefully it’s addressed and fixed in the future.

Unfair// where do I lodge a complaint?

The game does remind me of old, regular maplestory which is great except for the fact about customizations to your character which was one of the reasons I really liked the original game for. I really like the "bright eyes" look and in order to get them, you have to spend money on crystals in the game. This is fine. I've spent money on nx before. What's not fine is that I basically spent $25 essentially and tried probably seven times but kept getting three facial expressions repeatedly. There's supposed to be an even % chance of getting the eyes expression so I would expect I would at least get the chance to get the eyes/ face that I want but it seems rigged or glitched on my character and now even if I want to ask the game developers to check on my account to see if there's a malfunction/glitch on my acc, (because even on the original game, I'VE LITERALLY NEVER HAD THIS HARD /UNFAIR CHANCE OF GETTING THE EYES and other people on the game right seem to get it pretty easily too! And I've tried like SEVEN), I don't know where customer support is. Honestly this is really discouraging me from playing. It just feels frustrating and unfair. And now I don't even know where to contact customer support 🤦🏻‍♀️

Auto Mode-Awful Idea.

Maplestory—the PC version, that is—is a game that is lauded for its open world that offers vast multi-world exploration. And there are sooo many worlds to boot. The fun of it was that no one tells you what to do, and to complete quests you have fun trying to move around and find out what you have to do.

But you know what? The magic of all this is lost with Auto Mode. Auto Mode is what kills most mobile games. There is no way to shut it off completely in settings, and it forcibly makes its way in after every single time you accept a quest. Controls are also very iffy, and often don’t work like you want them to... what’s the point of a game when you can’t even play it yourself? It tries to do everything for you, and that’s no fun.

Instead of focusing so much on bringing in a cheap app, why don’t you just develop a Macbook version instead? So we can just use Mac Desktops and Laptops and play a full version there, that is just like the PC version. Keeping this game in the PC era is backwards thinking, and you should seriously invest the millions and millions you rake from your players into developing a Mac compatible version for once. MapleStoryM version is so disappointing.

A real deceitful experience

Even as I knew this was a pay-to-play game pretty much, I stuck with it. When I first downloaded the game it wasn’t clear that’d you be making a “guest” account; the set-up just ushers you into making a new character. Then you just go about leveling up this character, for weeks, months, a year.. when you’re enticed into buying crystals to enhance your experience they charge your apple account with the utmost efficiency: so instant. Taking money is fast. Customer support is unhelpful. My “guest” account survived many many updates, each time I re-enter MapleStoryM my characters would be there and all would be fine. I didn’t even know I had a guest account. It seemed reliably established... because it was so efficiently connected to my apple App Store. Up until this most recent update, I was informed my entire account was lost because it was a mere guest account. Well, tell me how my many hours, level 165 character, hundreds of dollars are all lost? I was told there was nothing they’ll do to help. Hundreds of million of in-game currency. Hundreds of hard cash items. This is really deceitful. By far one of the most shameful gaming practices I’ve experienced. I hated this. I really really hated this.

Amazing but really ..

I always come back to maplestory , i heard it was on iphone again so i rushed to play it , & im really happy i did . I love it and most of what it has to offer , but i personally feel theres a turn off that just dont feel right , auto questing Only makes the story less enjoyable and more pointless , though i do like the auto battle system , only as a way for me to grind for 10 minutes while im eating or something it seems like an addition i can get used to but not auto questing & theres no option for me to turn it off so thats why its a turn off itself, should be removed , players will feel more involved. I could get used to the HUD and jumping is fixed so thats the best part , im going to keep playing though , hoping auto quest turns off eventually so i can be free to roam the mapleworld for what it has to offer. Keep up the good work , its a great port , I recommend it to those who can tolerate auto questing

Good game or it would be if not for one thing

Most games i see like this have fluid controls...it seemed like it would but wow was i surprised when i saw this. While jumping you cannot move left or right unless your moving in the direction when you press the jump button but if you press the jump button and THEN try to move right/left surprise surprise you can’t. I figured this out in the first few seconds after i loaded the game. In the forest of Endurance. You guys don’t understand how much i raged just because i tried to jump to another platform but i was on a one space platform so if i moved to the left to jump to the other platform i would’ve fallen down really far (did that SO many times before seeing that) so i decided why not try to jump and then move left and i tried but i pressed the jump button, tried to move left and my character did absolutely nothing but land back on the platform. Oh and also just also found out that you can’t even slightly change direction mid air. So basically you can’t stop yourself from falling off a ledge if that were to happen. Seriously people fix this and maybe I’d enjoy this game but until then. One star till then

Fantastic game

I should begin by saying MapleStory is the first mmorpg I ever played, so I’ve always been quite fond of it. I’ve leveled 2 characters to 50+ and it has been smooth sailing with auto quest getting me where I’m going then I farm manually (usually) I do wish you could see the quest arrows while not on auto quest, just so you have the freedom to free roam your way there. Now, the reason I’m writing this review is to tell you there is a serious problem with questing in the Nautilus, I’ve crashed at least 40 times on both characters combined, I don’t know why, but inside the Nautilus is a game crash death trap, which makes it difficult to do the necessary quests there.
Fantastic job on this game, without auto quest, it really feels like classic maplestory, some differences like equip item drops and the armor upgrade system, but I think I can learn to love those changes as well. Thank you for reviving maplestory and bringing it to mobile.

Very absurd changes to this game

As much as I want to praise this game, it’s honestly headed in the wrong direction. Not only did they put a 6 hour restriction on the trade shop which prevents f2p users from gaining mesos from their hard earned equips they forged, it requires you to WAIT those 6 hours before putting up MORE items. Drop rates on expeditions are horrible, we don’t get enough auto tickets to be able to level up steadily. Nexon “customer service” blames you for their mistakes and gives you horrible automated answers and claims it to be solved with no response or live chat. Literally horrible.

Nexon fix these mistakes before you lose all of your loyal fan base. And this is only a small portion of what’s wrong. There’s tons more that I could talk about, but that would make this review way too long.

Also there was a bug in the trade shop that made you lose your items when you posted them, without telling you. I lost over 1 billion meso that I earned by buying gems and purchasing apples. So this is my REAL money you guys are costing me. And I better either get my money back or you guys can consider my business gone, as well as my guild members and friends

Scam Alert! DO NOT DOWNLOAD!!

The entire game is filled with third party websites Auto botters to scam money off actual player base. The PR and Developer team make false promises which they don’t take care of. Even their responses are false automated responses. They have even blocked taking messages on their official Facebook page. They only fix issues associated to cash items, but don’t care about anything server oriented or about the hackers currently occupying all the server space. Majority of the players have already began asking for refund as the game is unplayable, and the players are not even able to log on.
Based on comments across Reddit and MapleStory m Facebook, players have notified Apple of this issue, and additional complaints could drive this game off of the Apple App Store. Please save your time and money from installing this scam game and try another game instead.

Sincerely,
A Former Disappointed Original MapleStory and MSM player.

Autoplay and Friend Tracking

When starting a quest, it immediately goes to the autoquest mode and when turned off, relocates you somewhere on the map. Then you have to find your friends. It’s not a huge problem but it can be annoying when you want to do things together and feel the cooperative experience, especially since there’s lots of other players. That’s the thing too, speaking of players, there’s no easy way of keeping close or tracking your friends in a party. Teleportation is great but to have to keep doing it everytime we get separated isn’t fun. I want to feel the real experience of playing and not just droning through it all with autoplay and teleporting to find your friends. Great mechanics though, do NOT remove them. I guess just fixing on keeping our options open on how we want to play is where I’m getting at with this review. Great GAME THOUGHHH <3

Terrible game in which developers do not listen to community feedback

Time and time again Nexon's mobile gaming platform developers never listen to the player's feedback. The last patch was by far the worst to have happened in the short year and half this game as been out. There was so much potential coming into this game. The developers do not actually play the game and/or do not run tests on their updates and patches.

Coming into this year they were supposedly working on a motto of listening to feedback and to communicate as well as being as transparent as they can with things going forward. We already see this to be false with the lack of content, horrendous game play centered on cash grabbing with their freenium services, and the dying player base. They're always attempting to fix things that do not need fixing or adjust things to be for the worse.

Do not play this game. Nostalgia at it's best, don't expect much from it. Especially not from a person who is not willing to shell out thousands of dollars to only be required spend even more because of the absurdly askewed RNG and high probabilities you'll fail at improving your character.

Don’t waste your time friends!

Before I start I’m a PC MapleStory veteran and have spent over 10 years on the game, thinking I’d come to enjoy the release of a mobile version though was my biggest fault in my entire MS career. To keep things short and sweet here’s just about all I have to say — 1 star for being on mobile, no more stars because the only thing worth doing is purchasing a few cosmetics for $10 if you couldn’t afford actual cosmetics on PC. Other than that you’re already behind because there are players that spend by the thousands. The only way you’d be able to achieve level 150 is by spending tons of cash on exp boosts, etc. Trust me on this — I have three level 120+ toons and all of them have equally turned me off from the game. You’re going to spend a solid amount in the thousands like I said and on top of that be prepared to drain your phone battery non stop because that’s the only way you’ll ever level past 120 and spend money. — Long story short the game made me feel like a little kid on Christmas Day until I realized its a cash grab for Nexon and besides — MapleStory 2 is out on PC. Do not bother with this game at all.
