It keeps aborting

I bought the Pro because I wanted to record a few “background” sounds that — with my new hearing aids — sound so much louder (coffee maker, a/c, fans, water, etc. I’m returning soon to get so my hearing aids adjusted and thought these recordings would help. But after saving a recording, the program aborted. And aborted. And aborted. Every time I went back in, it just ended. I was finally able to get it to stay open to record once again, but after each recording it would abort again it was a minute or more before it would stay open. I’m not impressed. But I’d like to be.

Just downloaded this app

I just downloaded DecibelXPRO and it closes as soon as it starts up. I have an iPhone XS Max, 256 gb storage running iOS 12.2, apple’s latest version. Fix DecibelXPRO or refund the purchase price ASAP. Despite what the developer says or claims, DecibelXPRO was not corrected or fixed as it disappears as soon as DecibelXPRO comes up but stays in the background. When you flick the bottom of the phone screen you can see it but as soon as you lift your finger off the screen it disappears again. What a frustrating piece of crap DecibelXPRO is. If my credit card gets charged for it I will take it up with my card issuer so the charge is removed from account. Should that fail I will file a complaint with the NYS attorney general office as well as the FTC. Yes I am that po’d by DecibelXPRO. This is the first one that I bought where this happened.

No horizontal meter view w/ iPad Mini 2 & No Support

This a 5-star app undermined practically by two things: There is no apparent way to have the decibel meter viewable when my iPad Mini 2 (iOS 12.x) is horizontal. That is, the decibel meter and frequency graph visible in vertical mode reduce to graph only. Horizontal view allows placing the iPad in a more stable position, especially when in a supportive keyboard style case. And second, the Support page to contact the developers about this never loads. I will upgrade this review when the developers fix these.

Data on old phone won’t transfer to new phone

I have been using Decibel x Pro for 4 years to record industrial noise in neighborhoods. Recently purchased a new iPhone 15 to replace iPhone 12. The data from Decibel x Pro will not transfer; just the event names transfer, but no graphs. Have contacted creator of DecibelXPRO 3 times, and no response. Disappointed. Apple care was no help; said it is an unsupported app. Please advise. And be aware. The response I received did NOT solve the problem. Still no sound and no graphs have transferred. I already had the iCloud sync and audio on. Do you have any other suggestions?

Latest iPhone Version

I’ve been using DecibelXPRO for a few years and it’s never let me down ... until now. DecibelXPRO is useless on my iPhone X now. Since the latest update, DecibelXPRO crashes upon launch. If I repeatedly relaunch DecibelXPRO I may get lucky after 5 or 6 attempts to launch. Yet after it finally opens its unstable if I switch to a different app and usually crashes as well. Contacted support, 2 weeks ago and there has been no response. Hope someone is reading these reviews because I’d really like to know if I should burn this bridge and find another solution.

Peak hold feature needed

Good overall decibel meter. The “peak” shown on the main screen appears to be an average peak measurement, which works for many tests. If DecibelXPRO offered the ability to switch between displaying a peak hold line or average peak line it would be even more useful.

With the peak hold feature you could run several scans of the environment or test subject and display peak sound level vs the full audible frequency span. Quite useful if you want to characterize the peak response of a speaker across all audible frequencies.

As of now the only way to see the full frequency peak line is to record the phone screen, replay the average peak pink line as it sweeps frequency, and manually record sound level at each frequency. The built in recording feature doesn’t show sound level amplitude on the Y axis and you can’t export a video of the recording, thus the need for screen capturing.

Skypaw, when can the peak hold feature be added?

A useful tool

On fast mode it’s pretty good at detecting sounds your ear cannot, leaks in systems, failing bearings. I hope in an update the orientation is enhanced. When I attempt to point the microphone at the source for better location the screen only goes as far as landscape. I would also like to switch between different settings to compare without having to go into a separate settings screen interrupting my work.

Camera mode crashes the app... FYI

I’m a music and Theatre teacher, and just attended a conference, one session was on the need for hearing protection for music teachers. I panicked, bought some cheaper earplugs for the time being, set an audiology appointment, and purchased DecibelXPRO. I’ve only played with DecibelXPRO , for a few minutes and noticed that on the camera setting DecibelXPRO crashes. Seems like the developer is very responsive though, and is why I went through purchasing DecibelXPRO .
Fyi:
I’ve played on my piano for just a few minutes and was shocked that I can easily push my piano about 95 decibels! Yikes!
Guess, I’m glad I purchased the ear plugs...
and DecibelXPRO .

Decent app

DecibelXPRO is fairly straightforward and accurate, it’d be nice for it to save the settings that way you don’t have to open and select specific settings every time you open DecibelXPRO . I work in a loud environment and would like to use widgets on my iPhone so I can see how loud the workplace is at a quick glance. Also, when I rotate my phone DecibelXPRO doesn’t rotate anymore. Not sure what that’s about but I’d like a fix. Especially, being I paid for DecibelXPRO . Once those are updated I’ll change to a 5 star.

Good but has a few bugs.

I use DecibelXPRO for training and assessing vocal intensity for Parkinson's patients. There are 3 problems that need to be fixed. One is the data on the summary report doesn't fit on the "page" so the numbers are hard to read. The second problem is that when data is cleared, it immediately starts recording again and the pause button has to be hit quickly. And finally, even the slightest upward swipe (always on accident) flips you into a different screen which is annoying and disruptive.

Almost 5 stars — every now and then a crash

This one helps me protect my nerve-damaged hearing. If it weren’t for the occasional crash, I would give it five stars. My other nit-pick applies to this and other decibel apps: they all report marginally to significantly different levels in the same environments. I’d love to know which is most accurate. Decibel X Pro, though, is easily my favorite. I like the interface, the ability to record, and the quick and easy-to-read comparisons to noise levels in various environments.

Next to my D👀k and my Brain, my Ears are my Favourite Organ.

03NOV2018, I went to a Nine Inch Nails Concert in San Francisco, CA. The warm up act was playing so loud that it showed 122db Z Weighted!!! That is INSTANT Hearing Loss!!!👂 wearing my Ear Plugs under my shooting muffs, that only dropped the sound level 6db or to 117db
Z Weighted or Permanent Hearing 👂 after 20 seconds. I ran outside and during the break, confronted the sound crew, showing them the data and demanding the lower the volume else I’ll call OSHA and shut down the tour!!! The dropped it to 105db because of your program!!!

Later that week, I got a room upgrade due to noisy neighbours and I got a seat 💺 upgrade because the engines were too loud. I am PROUD to be a HEALTH-NAZI (for fun and profit) and you can be TOO!!!

Best SPL App I’ve Used

This is the best SPL meter app I’ve used. Well worth the purchase.
The only suggestion I have is that it doesn’t rotate 180 degrees on the iPhone XS Max like it did on my old iPhone 6. I like to have the microphone at the bottom of the phone pointed at the speakers so to have the UI flip upside down was very useful.
Also the “email support” button in settings didn’t work when I pressed it. Hence my notes here. Otherwise it’s great and I use it in the theater everyday when setting up for a screening.

Very intuitive to use - Recommended

Seems accurate although I have no way to verify. But I think it’s in the SPL range of what I expected while listening. It’s of course consistent internally, and from song to song. It’s my Go - To among my several apps of this type.

The info you need!

Fantastic app. Measures loudness, shows average exposure and remembers peak levels. For those spaces where you know the sound levels are too high, now you have some evidence. Warning: people like loud music, especially after they’ve already damaged their hearing. Be prepared to enter a new level of diplomacy!

Great noise monitor

I occasionally need to monitor noise levels at home or in classrooms when I’m substitute teaching. So I’m a novice at this, although I am a scientist in other areas. DecibelXPRO does everything I need: records noise levels, lets me adjust the parameters, such maximum acceptable noise level, and I can download the data. It defines & explains everything. It is calibrated. The only thing it has no effect on is my 4 cats’ level of meowing. If only it could feed them.... I’m thrilled with DecibelXPRO!

Decibel X Pro review

Meets all the expectations I had after upgrading from the free version. Sure, more accurate equipment exists and the version may not use beam-forming mics available on the newer iPad Pro, but
a. this is adequate to many tasks
b. it records & the record can be emailed from DecibelXPRO
c. it runs n a pice of equipment you probably always carry
d. the cost—the cost—the cost cannot be beat.

Newest version

I have used DecibelXPRO for quite awhile but the newest version that I just installed on my new iPhone 11 has a 15-20 second delay for the sounds to be registered on the meter and graph. I was hopeful that a setting would correct this but so far nothing corrects that. I hope that the developer is aware of this and can correct it in the next release.

Fantastic app; Analyst friendly

This is a fantastic app! For someone who works in OSHA hearing conservation the ability to take a photo with the metadata alone is worth the price. Being able export the data to a table is great!

The only recommendation I can give would be to include, in the setting, options to customize the metadata for your csv export and camera, specifically, a time stamp (DTG) and frequency, and location that way we can isolate harmful frequencies and conduct a more thorough analysis.

Neat app / needs bugs fixed

With IPhone: App crashes when you try and change view from classic or try to use camera. I’ve had to several times uninstall and re-install. There were lots of free ones, but chose this assuming things would stay up to snuff for a paid APP. Fingers crossed, We’ll see.
