Edit: Customer Service Can Do Something

Edit:Original review was very negative and it’s found below because that was what my original experience. I’ll leave it there because I was wrong and I appreciate the follow up from this app customer service to let me know that I’d be refunded and it will be back into my account within 48 hours. A quick call and it was very professional. They called me a day after I talked with the first this app representative over the phone. I’ll leave it at 4 stars because it was surprising and I would have appreciated a heads up before the charge. Possibly on Biki before I saw the charge on my card.

Original: Customer service can’t do anything

The bikes aren’t great I was riding in the rain and the handle grip slid off and I fell onto the pavement because my other hand pushed the front wheel sideways.

But my main issue with them is that their customer service is basically useless. They charged me $103 for a bike ride that I took that was actually only 10 minutes but because the bike wasn’t docked properly they charged me for 13 hours. They even know that this is an issue but they don’t care and will hide behind their “Terms of Use” which is legally fine but that’s not a great way to do business. It’s a pretty scummy way to get money from your customers. I won’t be renewing my membership and I doubt this app cares but it’s just a lesson to me and I hope someone reads this review and finds it useful before using Biki.

App okay to good, but bikes are dangerous

Reviewed after 280 minutes of use, about a dozen (12) rides:
Poorly maintained bicycles. Hand holds fall off, bells rarely work, brakes almost never function up to acceptable specs and in this time of pandemic, you’d think they could keep the bikes clean. Once a day? Week? Month? Come on, get with it!! This is even more ‘life and death’ than the other “accidents” you should expect to suffer with these bike shares. Minor peeve: Seats almost all have sun damage. They are cracked and retain moisture after rain. Unpleasant, but not potentially deadly like some of their other problems—no worries, you’ll dry quickly most days. There are a whole host of other problems. Really disappointed!!!! After reading reviews, I will make sure to double-check my credit card statement for overcharges. Minutes certainly vanish. Maybe it’s the docking stations?

I cannot recommend, not even for one casual ride. Mothers, don’t let your kids on them, and certainly don’t let them grow up to be this app statistics.

LOVE the Biki bikes!!!

I had a great experience using this app while on vacation. Used up about 240 minutes over the span of ~5 days and every experience was positive. I am genuinely so confused what other reviews are talking about. Seats are well maintained, no handles, peddles, or wheels fell off, rarely was a station full but honestly there are so many so just find a different one. Very easy to put back in the dock and wait for the green light so if you do that there are none of these “over charges” that people are going on about.
Granted, making an account wasn’t the best UX but that’s a one time thing and the service itself is awesome.
Oh and they have a fun name. So catchy and can’t stop saying it now! Overall loved it !

Don’t buy subscription through app!

Biki works fine for seeing where bikes are available, but do not buy a subscription using it. I bought the Free Spirit subscription on Biki , then tried to unlock bikes at 8 different stations with no success. Never got a passcode, app wouldn’t recognize the fact that I was near a station. Finally, I bit the bullet and just bought a subscription at the kiosk of one of the bike stations which immediately gave me a passcode.

Bike worked fine. Has 3 gears. I think it’s a good service as long as you check your bike before renting to ensure it’s functional.

I’d give this a higher rating, but after paying for two subscriptions, and contacting customer service for a refund on the first unusable subscription without getting a response, I can’t give a good review at this time. If this app reaches out and refunds my first payment, I’ll give a better review.

Convenient!

I love this app bikes! Every time I see a this app biker I softly yell “this app booiiiiiiike” like I’m a frat boy.

The stations are all conveniently placed, there’s always a bike at the station that I need, and it’s nice to know that you’re doing the earth and your own body a lot of good! If you live in downtown Honolulu, or around that area, having the this app app and membership is a must!
It gives you a lot of freedom so you can bike to wherever and maybe walk back to wherever you came from. It’s also such a relief to not have to worry about your own bike and wondering if it’ll get stolen or not.

And for all the people who complain about this, you have to remember that this is a bike SHARING system. Not everything is going to be brand new looking all the time. If you are going for sleek and new, then just buy your own bike.
But if you want the freedom of having a bike, but not owning one and maintaining one, then this is definitely for you.

Amazing and smart way to check out bikes

So glad to see an app that can release bikes. They have a membership key as well but Biki offers an alternative way to check out bikes in case you forget the card.

You can also see the station locations and their occupancy in real time so you can check them before you plan to go anywhere.

Hope to see more development on this! This is definitely the right direction. Keep it up!!

$100 CHARGE FOR 7 MIN BIKE RIDE

I usually don’t write reviews but here I am.
I messaged the Executive Director about this already, but he clearly does NOT care about his customers whatsoever. My first time using Biki as my first time in Honolulu. I went on a 5-7 minute bike ride around the city and returned it to the station. The next day, I got a call saying I had a charge of $103 because the bike was not locked.

I explained the situation to him exactly what happened and he said there’s nothing he can do and that it’s my fault and he cannot refund the money. Are you freaking serious. A 5 minute bike ride turned into $100 out of my bank account.

Very dissapointed in this app and Bikeshare Hawaii because they do not care about their customers’ experience. They do not care what the customer had to go through, they just want every dollar out of our pocket. Any other transportation app such as LimeBike/Lyft/Wheels would of refunded the money by now if I had complained.

Not this app. They don’t care. If they do they will return a message. Peace.

Best deal in Hawaii

I grew up here and love to come back, this service makes my trips 1000% better. The bikes are lighter than ones in SF, the locations of the bikes are everywhere and the pricing options are WAY better than what I get in San Francisco. I downloaded Biki , checked out a bike ride to lunch and then back home. EASY PEASY. Stop reading this, get Biki and go get a bike!
PS) they called the same day I signed up asking if I needed help, how awesome. 5⭐️!

Great experience

Idk what these other people rating are talking about and crying about this app. I’ve been riding for over a month now over 600 minutes and never have had an issue. Sure some bikes are better than others but it’s normal wear and tear. Don’t be stupid and just dock your bike and wait for the green light as instructed and you’re good. this app is great and convenient.

Love these!

These 3 speed bikes are really convenient around town, and better maintained than mine at home. Easy to operate and a smooth ride. In this time of pandemic I use with disposable gloves even though they are kept clean. Easily adjustable seat post for customers of almost any height. One BIG tip is to remove from the bike from stand I have to lift the back wheel up almost 6”, I just lift it by the seat. Happy riding!

good time

i read the reviews for Biki and was expecting poorly maintained bikes and a wonky app....we used this bike/app at least 10 times around downtown Honolulu and never had an issue with the bike itself or using Biki . the bike seats weren’t worn, the brakes worked, and the tires were properly filled

Great idea / terrible execution

Bike share is usually such a joy.

Once a station is full you cannot return your bike there.. I’ve been to other cities who have stations but you can park the bike near the station and lock it.

Also the customer service was awful. I asked a question to their “ask us a question” page. They came back and told me to read the website again. When I told them it did read the website and that it was not clear, they again did not answer my question. Thanks but no.

How long are my rides?

Great app, use it all the time. Please add the minutes and seconds of my ride to my history so I can compare the free spirit plan vs monthly plan. Not sure which one makes the most sense since I use it all the time, but can’t compare because I don’t know my monthly minutes of riding.

2 bikes. 30 minutes. $107.

Although we were aware of the $50 security fee for a single use, it did not inform us of the general return time anywhere on Biki . Instead, we had to scroll and scroll through the website after our ride to find out that it takes 3-5 days.

Why have that security fee when there’s already a card on file? But never mind that. How could you not put the general return time among the security disclaimer? Maybe I should have dug for it on the site sooner, but I just couldn’t fathom it would take longer than 24 hours!

So as I said, 2 bikes. 30 minutes. $107. By the time we get our money back... we’ll already be back home in California.

Plus, the bikes brakes hardly worked and they squeaked loudly the entire time. Never again.

SCAM!!! STAY AWAY!!!

I paid for a monthly plan, but when the station didn’t work on Monday, 6/21 and Wednesday 6/23, I called for a refund of my plan. I got no apology, just a “the system went down for 2 hours on Sunday” excuse. Over 72 hours later, it still doesn’t work. They only offered to cancel my membership, with NO REFUND!!! What a RIPOFF!!! Terrible customer service. Visitors to Hawai’i deserve better, and locals even more so. Companies like this are an embarrassment to the aloha spirit.

Terrible iPhone interface and glitchy

After trying to fumble our way thru the klunky app for almost 10 min to create a profile and rent the bikes we were standing next to, Biki kicked my husband and I off for 2 different reasons forcing us to start over. It didn’t accept my password. And it didn’t accept the way my husband inputted our home address. We’re both deleting Biki .

Company has Downsized Personnel and Service

this app was a reasonable service for commuters until the company recently closed dozens of bike stops around the city and downsized over half their staff. Unfortunately it’s now completely unreliable for daily commuters. Will there be a bike at your starting this app stop? Maybe. Will there be an open slot to park your bike at your destination? Who knows? It’s a crap shoot better suited for one-time tourist riders. Sorry to see you go, this app.

Bicycles could be maintained better but otherwise great

I wish the bikes were a bit better maintained but otherwise fantastic service and convenient

So much fun!

I've been having so much fun riding the this app bikes around town. Biki is SO MUCH easier to use than portland's biketown. I esp like that you can pay at the bike stand if you don't have Biki . I have the 300 minute Free Spirit Pass which is a great deal.

This app smells like donkey balls

Full of glitches, tried 2 credit cards, couldn’t get it to work. Crashed. Sent to wrong page. Gave incorrect error messages multiple times. What idiot coded this thing?

By

Seemingly lost ticket

I purchased two one way tickets and somehow both were used on a single ride. I don’t think the ride took more than the single trip limit of 25 minutes but I can’t see ride history in app. I’d recommend buying only one ticket at a time.

Also, why require credit card info when I have Apple Pay set up? Seems like unnecessary risk for me and for app developers.

This is unfortunately the ONLY bike sharing company around and they are HORRIBLE. The customer service is spotty, the supervisor isn't willing to make the customer whole again and the kiosks don't work half the time. We tried to get several bikes and the kiosks said they didn't have bikes, YET we counted at least 4. Other times the kiosk wouldn't process the payment and we had to walk several blocks to another station that ALSO DIDN'T WORK!
