I was very excited to try NativeLand as it has been difficult getting good information on the tribes indigenous to my area (western Pennsylvania). Unfortunately NativeLand got stuck loading the map and never was able to show me any data, despite reinstalling, rebooting, etc. (I’m on an iPhone X, iOS 13.7.) I couldn’t find any contact info on NativeLand support page.

This seems like it would be a very interesting educational and conversational tool, however it is currently very poorly optimized and as such it is very difficult to use. I thought this might be slightly more reliable than the website which has many of the same issues. I was mistaken.
I have an iPhone 12 Pro, which is at the time of writing this the most capable iPhone around. NativeLand takes minutes (4+) to partially load and reference data for a simple location search, let alone start up a second or try to delve into more information about the location’s indigenous groups.

I love learning about different people and different cultures and I also love studying the history of people and who they were and their relationships with their neighbors. This helps understand how cultures grow and develop.
I will give NativeLand the benefit of the doubt because it’s still growing but I would love for it to be a true tool for information about the people who lived in the Americas and around the world. As of right now it’s just a map which is interesting but very limiting in what there is to learn and understand. For instance, I would love to see a map where it shows which languages are related or the different language families each language is a part of and specifically which cultures speak these languages. This would give so much information on just how the cultural and political systems of various people are connected.
Another idea I would like to see is a time line of the various ancient cultures. For instance, the Mogollon culture of the southwest vanished about 600 years ago. After that their rivals the Dine and Hopi can be found in many of the ancient Mogollon regions. However, the Mogollon people didn’t disappear, just their culture did. The ancestors of the Mogollon culture still live there, just in a new tribes and new cultures. I would love to have that type of information available.

NativeLand is and has been extremely helpful, but compared to the information (say we’re looking at the Territories layer) on the website, NativeLand seems to be in need of an update. Where NativeLand might list one territory in a spot, the website will list three tribes for that same spot.

I won’t give my review yet because NativeLand is not working on my iphone11. Just wanted to send that info so it can be fixed.

This is so great and not to take away from its ideology, my hopes for NativeLand is that it’s capable of drawing on indigenous participation in achieving more developed boundary lines and treaties. Right now I’m situated in Ojibwe territories however I am Yupik and Inupiaq. Since I have learned some of the boundaries I was excited to see that there is an app and.I came here to learn more about these lands however the map is not accurate yet. Good luck on developing and this is a great start in which I’m sure the vision will achieve a lot more participation and honing in on our amazing history. In one of my languages I say Quyana Caknek!

Just now downloaded NativeLand and I haven’t even opened it yet, but I ABSOLUTELY had to immediately THANK THE CREATOR for trailblazing this VITAL material!
I’ve been searching for something like this for quite a while now, in app form or otherwise, but didn’t find a thing! Until now. 😊
This is such an important innovation for trailblazing the empowerment of Indigenous Peoples, and intercultural relations, and fulfilling the Rainbow Prophecies. I’ve read the customer reviews so I’m aware that their may be some inaccuracies and that some of the tribal website links have connectivity issues, but considering the fact that the “Civilized” Industrialized world STILL has yet to include these Sovereign Territories on any Official Map, and it’s probably one of the first of its kind, I’d expect it to be a work-in-progress.
PLEASE PLEASE CONTINUE DEVELOPING THIS AND OTHER Apps THAT RECOGNIZE LIVING INDIGENOUS PEOPLES, AND THEIR SOVEREIGN TERRITORIES, AND COMMUNITIES SO THAT WE MAY TREAT THEM WITH HONOR AND RESPECT, AND SO WE MAY REPAIR RELATIONS SO AS TO LEARN TO LIVE TOGETHER IN GREAT PEACE LAW!

I’m happy with NativeLand in that it does what it says, however I’m a little disappointed it doesn’t cover Mexico as I had hoped it would

I had to reinstall it as it did not work well the first time. Now works great. It’s simple and effective.

It's fantastic to have something like this that's easy to use and gives quick access to the indigenous land we occupy. A really beneficial app to learn about our land's history and be more aware for the future.

The reason why is this for students is in Social Studies 6 in Estacada. My Teacher Mrs Boatman Was showing us NativeLand to see the lands. I didn’t have it on watch so I will go through this to track your of where am I going

Thanks to the creator of NativeLand. It should be Installed on every phone as a basic one! Hopefully this info will become more widespread, with an increase in awareness of the Indigenous people of all Turtle Island.

A truly amazing beginning to make people aware of so much history and PST that we are not taught in schools, if the info could stay in NativeLand instead of opening a web page it would be ever more dynamic and I honestly cannot wait until it add to South America!!! Congratulations and thank you!!

I think my phone glitched when I first downloaded, I couldn't get NativeLand to function. Un-installed and re-installed and now it's great. Very easy to look things up and read more about the tribes and cultures whose land we are recreating on. Thank you for the effort put into this.

I re-downloaded at the developers request after the most recent update and they have fixed all the issues from the previous version.
It’s a really informative app and easy to use.

I love NativeLand!!! There is finally one where I can show my son where and how far our tribe traveled for food and trade. My husband can see why so many of his family claim a native background relative to where they lived in the past. I flat out got misty eyed as this map makes it feel like I count on the map of history.

I love NativeLand...it has brought me awareness to who lived on this land first as they deserve more recognition and reparations.
Currently the website and NativeLand are not working and there is no way to contact you all except here. I hope you can get your server back up and running!
Thanks for creating this amazing map!

NativeLand has information that I have been craving about the people who were here before colonization. Thank you.
I would encourage leaders of all types to download and use NativeLand to the fullest extent. In leaders I mean, employers, politicians, developers, and educators at a minimum. In reality everyone should use NativeLand. It’s important to acknowledge what was done in order for us to be who we are, where we are now.

My education of native tribes in the Americas was mostly done in 2nd grade, which has led me to forget the land on which I stand. Through NativeLand I found out that the land I live on is of a tribe never mentioned to me, and consisted of several sub tribes and was last found in the region in 1723. This tool has started me on the journey of learning more about the Manahoac tribe and neighboring tribes. This tool is great to learn about the history of where you live, may move to, or visit!

The resources are great and present info as clearly as can be expected, given shifting boundaries across time and imprecision of some historical data.
I’m so grateful that you added the ability to mark your current location! I understand why modern cities, borders, and roads aren’t on the map, but it can be challenging to find where you are, especially in some of the less-distinct stretches in the middle of the continent; having the geolocation option is extremely helpful.

The idea of NativeLand is really neat, but I thought the colors needed more contrast. It was a bit hard to distinguish when there was overlap of areas.
Unless I missed a way to fix that.
Keep it up though!

Cool concept but the color scheme and legend can be difficult to process

I love having a map of various indigenous groups all in one place, and it’s allowed me to much more easily learn about different groups, especially ones that live in my area. I love having the links to the tribe websites on a lot of them! However, I definitely noticed not all of it is very accurate, either in the regions or the names of some of the tribes, which I guess is to be expected, but I definitely hope that in the future it will continue to become more accurate and informational! For now, I appreciate having a Native-focused resource for a wide variety of native groups across Turtle Island. Thank you!!!

NativeLand is great. Love the idea. Super important to have access to this knowledge. I do have trouble on NativeLand when visiting the link for each tribe, it never loads.
by Real_Zhekhai
NativeLand covers a lot of ground in North America. I’d like to see the nations broken down to tribe. For example the Sioux can be broken down into Lakota, Dakota, etc. as can the Ojibwe nation.

Interesting & seems accurate for the most part. Legend colors don’t match map colors very well.

The podcast Still Processing suggested NativeLand!
