If it ain’t broke...

Not only is it incredibly inconvenient to have the app “always allow” location, which has made my phone battery die faster, but having to use the GoCarma sensors is so unnecessary. The claim that people would forget to set their HOV before traveling as a reason to switch to this is absurd. It was so much easier to set a weekly schedule instead. Not to mention that if you travel with children that don’t have smart phones, having to order an occupant pass for them feels like an invasion of their privacy. The toll tag was enough personal information. Now we have to have physical passes for each person traveling in the car? Certainly not environmentally friendly, private, or convenient. This feels like an unnecessary invasion of privacy, as well as unfriendly to the environment with the physical passes required. Users should have the same options to set a schedule, as well as opt out of the “always on” location and add children to the account so there’s no physical piece required.

Invasion of privacy and stripping of options

This app FORCES customers to “always allow” your phone location to be tracked. This is IN ADDITION to placing a device in your vehicle glove compartment. The response is to help consumers who “forget” to activate or to help ensure they are given proper credits for HOV. If that’s the case let that be a responsibility of the user, not the company. Since the arrival of this GoCarma service to the Dfw metroplex, prices have risen so the idea that costs are reduced is false. Apple should leverage the App Store in forcing this app to be flexible and stop collecting data. I’m fully aware that I don’t “have to” use the express lane, but given this project was funded and is patrolled by officers that all receive TAX PAYER DOLLARS. I have a right and a responsibility to respond to this pathetic partnership express lanes/ ntta has formed with GoCarma.

Unnecessarily requires “always allow” tracking

This government affiliated app used to allow location tracking “only when using” the app. As a software developer myself, this level of permission would work just fine if you open the app while driving. However, now it is forcing users to “always allow” tracking by the app. A government affiliated app that forces you to allow it to always track you? And it’s your only way to get HOV rates? This simply should not be the case where a citizen is forced between these two options. TxDOT should remove the license from this company to provide this service and find a trustworthy developer.
