Could be great!

It wouldn't be a bad app if the steering lag even with the alternate controls worked in a predictable manner. It also lacks the ability to trim sails for optimizing a leg when in heavy traffic and a course correction will not work. Plus the course is too crowded and when someone commits a penalty from your left of course and ghosts during the 360 turn only to now be right of course and now you get a penalty it's infuriating. Considering that the same developer has other sail racing products that are much better then this, even as a casual playing game it does not give players the ability to avoid getting caught in the heard.

BUG - I have lost a lot of money

I've lost a lot of money with this game. it has a bug that when you click near the corner of the application window it moves as if it were going to close and the connection is lost and you are disconnected from the regatta losing the time that was in the regatta plus the coins you put to play the regatta with more resources. it has been like this for many years and no one fixes this bug. It's the only game I've seen that does this. should position the buttons higher up and not let the application lose connection. It's very frustrating!!! sometimes if you are in a good position then press the turn button and the application moves and loses the connection. frustrating and makes you lose money!

Encourage bad sailing behavior??

I’m about two weeks into this game. This game has nothing to do with sailing or ethics... this game absolutely rewards people for “tackling” others. The game does zero to alert you that you’ll be penalized when this happens... because there is so little time.

Maybe I’m just misinformed and this is how sailors fight each other. But if a boat turns hard off path and rams my boat, please explain why I get a penalty and they don’t. I’m not saying we are rounding a buoy or on tack... this is when we are in a dead heat and headed to finish, they hard cut to ram me.

Trash game, played by trashy players.

Could Be Great But Set Up For Pay2Play Makes It Boring

Game is unstable loading so that is a big problem and it semi-regularly takes your coins but does not enter you into the race. This could be a great sailing game as there are so few available but you can buy so many helps that the AI is mostly sailing your boat. Get rid of VMG and time to line options to make it more challenging and level the playing field. Steering your boat correctly is the biggest challenge in racing. Would also be nice if you could pick one boat, e.g. Laser or that hydrofoiling cat and just race it without having to register yourself. $8.99/month is a ridiculous price point for VIP in this game.

Great game... major glitches

This game is absolutely fantastic. You can read wind shifts, see puffs, the start sequence is great, but there are a lot of major glitches. Sometimes my boat will just head to wind or tack randomly. Often, when I’m approaching a mark, my boat will get a mind of its own and make crazy turns. I have been penalized in open water and even the computer can’t tell me what my foul was.

Seriously, an amazing sailing game. SailX was cool, but this is so great on iOS. Let’s just get the bugs out so I don’t throw my phone at the wall.

Rules

Racing rules aren’t followed at all. A boat can come from behind and foul you, then finish ahead of you. The time penalty is a nice idea, but in real racing, you aren’t required to hold your penalty right away. Instead, why not allow the boat to sail the leg they are on and if they haven’t done their penalty turn by the end, they are assessed the penalty as they found the next mark? Also, boats taking you head to wind on a downwind leg so they don’t get passed is a bit ridiculous. Boat handling seems great for a game like this. Good game, but could be better.

Fun Game When It Doesn’t Crash

I enjoy this game a lot when it works. However, often (maybe 1 in 5-7 games?) something happens that crashes me out of a race — a notification, a finger that the phone interprets as a swipe for the preferences, a call. That wouldn’t be so bad except that I then lose any credits I’d used for that race. When credits cost actual money, this is maddening and makes me want to delete Inshore on the spot. It’s a credit to the game that it’s engaging enough to make me want to keep playing once the rage subsides. Until it’s fixed, however, I’ll remain a casual player.

Great but...

I love sailing, and racing sailboats. Been looking for a good racing app, and this is the best out there.

One request: Can you make a game mode without any of the race helps, or make specific events (e.g. all Official eSailing World Championship related events) with disabled race helps?

It seems silly to me that players who pay for the subscription, or horde tokens to splurge on specific events, get an upper hand. It’s not a fair race unless you choose to pay the monthly subscription, and thus, this game is biased towards pay to win.

Nobody should be able to perfectly time starts, have visibility on lay lines hundreds of meters out, automatically steer to the best possible VMG, or get special visibility on wind shadows and/or wind intelligence. Make it an even playing field. A racing game that gives a leg up to paying racers isn’t very palatable if you really want to foster competition.

Also, expect frequent crashes and random game freezes. I’m rating this 3 stars until the level the playing field and fix the random bugs.

Good app but several issues

-Inshore crashes quite often, I can’t finish or even start a race , but they still debit my token account. Not cool
- a number of time I received penalty for no reason. Granted I was close to the start line or to another boat, but didn’t cross early and complete maneuver without forcing the other to alter course. It seems like there’s a mismatch between the visual and the actual size of boat
- I m playing in an iPhone and Inshore closed on me many times during a race when I m pressing the buttons to close to the bottom of the screen. App interprets as swiping up to close Inshore . It’s too sensitive, or button position is too close to the bottom edge

Good concept and gameplay, but limited content and crazy pay service.

The game and the gameplay itself are pretty fun, and actually require some level of strategy in the races. It is a big downside that you can only race in the cup they’ve selected, for the amount of time it is open. It would be nice if there were cups available for each type of boat, all of the time. The VIP service is a total ripoff. You pay for a service, and basically get the ability to create races, adjust your controls, enhanced tech support, and some other pretty useless features. They also need to update the way the rules are implemented in the game, as there are many players that have learned how to exploit the system, causing others to get penalties and lose speed/progress.

Needs some help, but great game

First of all, thank you for making a sailing game. It's a bunch of fun

1. More possible control layouts
including left hand.
2. Better penalty system. It doesn't recognize proper room on marks and just overall "room" in general. Once you have penalized someone you are still subject to someone penalizing you. You need to implement more the rule book.
3. More boats, cuz why not.
4. Practice in any of the boats. Not just the star.
5. Better system for ducking someone. It's too clumsy currently.
6. Steering controls. 1 tap 1 degrees good but when you are holding it down, a counter should appear with how much you have headed up or down.
7. LAN would be nice. 1v1 your friend on the same wifi would be awesome. (Or over Bluetooth)
8. More possible courses.

(COOL FUTURE STUFF)
1. 2 player. 1 person steers, 1 trims.
2. Reenact real courses with real boats. (VOR this app races, Olympic stuff, etc.
3. More weather conditions, light heavy, currents, big waves small waves, etc.

What’s going on ?

I love VR this app. I’ve been playing this game for a long time. The new upgrade is amazing !!!! But I keep losing connection right at the start of every race !!! There’s nothing wrong with my WiFi and I NEVER had this problem before the update. At the beginning of each race, I’m circling around for position, I get the lane I want, start building up speed for the gun to start the race, and then I lose connection and clouds come across the screen and I’m back to setting up for a new race. I get to play maybe 2 races out of every 15 attempts. What the heck is going on ???

Addicting- lots of bugs- bugs lose customer tokens

I love this game but there are so many things I did not notice at first that make it hard to get really good. I probably race 2 to 7 times a day if I’ve got 10 minutes. I lose about 10 tokens a day and sometimes more due to glitches(-$). Starting line needs fixed with penalties over the line early being to harsh to continue racing for a top 7 in a 10 minute race,(unless your on a foiling hull with good tactics). I can’t stop racing though, can’t wait for no bugs. Other than $costly bugs and jacktards who battle for 10th when I’m trying to drink beer, the racing is REAL⛵️⚓️🍻🥴🏴

great but

This is one of my favorite games but the 2 things i would fix the most is that when you are under the line by about a boat length after go you are still called over early. Another thing is if my phone says i have 20% left and gets the notification it will kick me out of the game. As well as if i were to change my brightness or settings.

Good could be great

Steering isn't an issue, it strikes a good balance between big and small adjustments, that said, Star boats are really responsive - much more so than in this game.
- It would be good to post the rules this game follows b/c it breaks many and enforces others which is fine, just post the rules - better yet plug in IYRA rules and we all might learn something.
- Big thing: Star boats (and any boat really) will accelerate as you crack off the wind, it should be so in this game, the boat speed should dramatically accelerate as you round up from DDW. Close hauled and dead down wind are in reality the slowest points of sail, not reflected in the game, at all.
- Star boats on a downwind leg flop the mast forward and fly a jib pole to weather, wing on wing.
- Star boats downwind hike to weather flying the mainsail high in the air, nearly dragging the jib's whisker pole at times. - - Make the Committee Boat point into the wind FFS - it's easy, right? Would be good.
- Wait times are brutal - how bout 5 boat races?
-Somehow I missed the Excellence Cup and I cannot progress from the Star boats - is it just me???
Anyway great game, make my changes and it will be awesome. C'mon, do it.
Thanks

Best sailboat racing game out there.

This is by far the best racing games (sailing) on Inshore Store. It hits on all of the key aspects of racing; fighting for a good start, wind shifts, wind shadow, vmg, etc. The only areas that could use some improvement are the rules and how a penalties are resolved. The basic rules are all there, port/starboard, windward/leeward. I think the rule accuracy at mark roundings could be improved. If I remember correctly a boat has no rights if they are head to wind until they have established at least a close hauled course. Also, (someone already mentioned this in a review but I agree) penalties are payed off immediately with a timed speed reduction. It works pretty well, but it kind of incentivizes sailors to force a penalty rather than sail their proper course. In real racing penalties can be fulfilled by doing circles at anytime between when they occur and when the offender crosses the finish line. I think this should be added into the game, at least for the non foiling boats.

My only other comment is that the game is on the verge of “pay to win”. There are certain advantages that you can buy with game tokens. The tokens can be purchased or won and it’s not to hard to win them. But, let’s be honest real life racing is also very much a pay to win sport so think what you want...

At the end of the day, if you have been racing for years, just learning to race or just learning to sail; this is a great game for you.

Great game mechanics.

This is an excellent game for experienced and new sailing fans. A game that really captures the important aspects of racing.
I only wish that there were more monohull regattas taking place. The Nacra, or any catamaran races, are not worth taking part in. They move too fast and the game or the user will not be able to keep up. This affects the rules as well and can be very frustrating.
A feature to report players would be helpful. Some people use the rules to take stationary boats out right before the start, ruining their race. This is not accurate or fair to players.
The rules are pretty well done, and the wind dynamics make the game very interesting. The addition of some new boats like FJs could really encourage younger college sailors to use this game.

Great game, could improve

This game is very fun and I am a sailor myself so I actually use this for strategy and start practice every day. There could be improvements with stuff like the wind dynamics, it could change depending on the geography of the location with the frequency and magnitude of the shifts. They could also improve on content a bit, i would like some great sailing locations like Miami, lake garda, Marblehead, Bodrum, Nassau, and marl de plata in the game. I would also like to see boats like optimist dinghy’s because a lot of players in this game are optimist sailors, also moths, 420s, 29ers, and open skiffs. Finally I would like to see the course variety’s improved a little more, both on length because we could get some realistic sailing on upwinds as long as 15 minutes instead of 2, and also courses like the triangle course, the trapezoid course, and some others. Thank you for viewing and keep up the good work.

Really lovable and enjoyable

So I’m a actual person that sails irl, and I think there is some real potential in this game for teaching, and some may complain since even if you hit a boat or foul someone you don’t have to spin, you just kind of slow down and phases through whatever the foul was, but in reality it’s just making the game more fun and here’s an example why the phasing through can actually be funny. Also before I give you the reason you can make specific races just to race friends, and family. Let’s say you are playing with your family. And randomly you decide to just speed up and absolutely ram the judges boat and just slow down a lot, everybody will be laughing. I highly recommend this game for anybody that likes to do racing games or actually sails or teaches how to sail in irl. I really hope you enjoy this game to, chicken out( chicken out is not actually being afraid, but my sailboat name is Poisonous Chicken in irl, and I just thought it would be funny!

Please expand tutorials

I’m a sailing instructor and I think that there is some real teaching potential in this game. The sailing is very accurate, to the point that concepts from the game translate smoothly into the real world, and the existing tutorials are already solid. However, I think there are a few things that could be added to make this game a very useful teaching tool. The reason a sailing app would be so helpful is because one of the biggest difficulties that sailing instructors face is communication with their students. It is very difficult for us to give real-time feedback to our students because, on the water, you only have a few seconds to yell helpful information to someone before they have sailed off, unlike with other sports. As such, having this simulator to demonstrate concepts to students on land without the limitations of having to explain everything through a whiteboard or yelling it to them on the water is huge. Furthermore, a video game is far more appealing to kids than a typical chalk talk, so it would make kids more enthusiastic about learning. Making this game into a better teaching tool by making more extensive tutorials which cover concepts such as points of sail, sail trim, sail controls, bad air, or racing strategy would make this game into a popular app I can see a lot of clubs investing in, even if the tutorials cost a little bit of extra money. All-in-all, though, this game is thoroughly well done.
