🚫 Beware of Julia, Scott and Stephanie with markate! Not only is their software glitchy and nonfunctional, but they are dishonest and unethical. 🚫
I signed up with them a couple months ago after Julia sold me on the fact that they had an “amazing proposal kit” feature that would be even better than my current software (PEP cloud). I needed to make the change because PEP cloud is selling to Sherwin Williams and going to be geared even more towards the painting industry.
Anyway, after taking a moment to play with the features on markate, I thought that it would work for me so I slowly started to import customers, set up my drip email, bought a virtual number from them, etc. However, when I went to start setting up the proposal kit (that I explained to Julia was EVERYTHING to me), I noticed that it was so glitchy that I could barely type in a paragraph and when I went to add an image, it would split up the text and jumble up the entire screen. Just a glitchy mess like a computer with a virus...
I first made Stephanie aware of this a month ago and was told (with her condescending attitude) that I needed to watch the video and just edit the template that was already there. I kept trying to explain to her that I had already watched her video and that it wasn’t a user error but a glitch in their software. She then agreed that if you try to use anything but their templates, that it wouldn’t work. Out of frustration, I reached out to Julia and made her aware of the software issue since she was the one who sold me on the feature. I assumed they would be able to fix the software issues causing the glitch so I was patient and waited a few more weeks while continuing to convert.
Well recently, I made another attempt to use the “proposal kit” assuming it would be remedied by now and the glitches are now even WORSE! I reached out to Scott and was told that if I sent him a PDF file of my content, that he would try to get it to work. I worked on creating this PDF (containing 4 different proposals) after work over the course of a week and emailed it to him. He confirmed he received it and would start working on it. However, after tinkering with it for a few days, he gave up on it and told me he was just too busy. So then I went in my profile and looked to see what he had accomplished only to see his attempt at creating just a few paragraphs and noticed that he ran into the same glitches that I did and was unable to get the software to work himself.. It’s almost like they are paying someone off Fiverr to write this software and have no idea how it works themselves. They just make vague “how to” videos that are of no help!
At this point, I reached out and requested a refund for the money spent (2 months plus features that I payed for) on a subpar software that I am unable to do anything with. Stephanie told me that the proposal portion of their software is in “beta mode” meaning that they are still testing it...BINGO! Now the truth comes out. Keep in mind, Julia sold me this software with me under the impression that they had an amazing proposal kit. This is a feature I told her I absolutely HAD TO HAVE in any software I use for my business.
Julia had the audacity to reach out and offer me a $5 credit for the proposal kit rather than refunding the hundreds I wasted with them.
I think this company preys on new businesses by offering a cheap start up price. A lot of these business owners have no idea what an “e-bid” or “proposal kit” is and haven’t had the pleasure of using a feature like this with another, more reputable software. So to them, it’s no big deal that the feature doesn’t work. For an established home service business, emailing a customer an interactive proposal with the option to accept and sign is a MUST.
With that being said, I’m open to recommendations for a reliable software company that has:
- An “e-bid” option
- Drip email follow up
- Follow up rating feature
- Service reminder email feature
- Scheduling
- Payroll
- Quick books integration
- A bulk email blast option
- Zapier integration
- Etc. (I’m probably forgetting a lot)
I’m willing to pay for something great. Please don’t reply saying how great markate works for you because I know for a fact that it doesn’t work for an established company and the staff is condescending and dishonest. I refuse to put my business in the hands of people like the markate staff.
