Remote for VLC, PC & Mac Reviews

I've used Remote on other platforms for months and it does everything I need it to with a modern UI and nice premium features that don't take away from the core functions. Setup is very in depth and simple to understand. I was so happy to find Remote after digging through old VLC this app apps I had paid for that broke or free versions of others that stopped being updated and didn't work anymore or had a horribly ugly UI. This is Remote for controlling VLC from an iOS device.

Note: if Remote crashes after installing and trying to setup the first time just reboot your phone. I had a small issue with that at the very beginning but i rebooted and Remote worked perfectly.

I had Remote, and bought the premium features, and it was a decent, perfectly serviceable app. Then the developer added incredibly intrusive advertising in an update, with an additional in-app purchase required to disable them. Seriously, just imagine: it's a this app control, and periodically you will completely lose its functionality because it gets hijacked by a full-screen ad that has sound on by default. Is there ever a situation in which you'd be using a this app control app and suddenly having a loud, stupid ad play *wouldn't* be hella annoying? And does anyone really think it's okay to completely break an app for paying customers with this sort of nonsense?

Yeah, I guess I could pay the additional $2 to get rid of ads, but you know what? I'd rather give that money to a developer who hadn't already proven themself to be a swindler. Hobbyist Software has one that looks good.

Set up was well explained and easy. Once set up was complete I went to test it out and hit play. That’s when I discovered that you can’t test it. You have to buy to play even a single song. If Remote has zero functionality without purchase then just ask me to purchase it upfront. Don’t make me waste my time getting it set up. Enable a 24 hour trial to explore the feature set up before purchase. I don’t expect people to give useful stuff away for free but it’s customary for software to have a trial and test period. Coming at me shady like that does not inspire confidence and I’m not buying it without being able to check the functionality. I don’t even know if it will play a song yet.

I bought the ad free version of this only and it worked great for a few months. It then got updated and had ads. I was extremely upset about it and contacted the developer. They quickly responded by saying to reinstall Remote and then go to the “purchase page” in Remote and select “restore” and it worked. No more ads! I’m very happy now as this was my favorite VLC this app. Thank you!!

I paid for unlimited premium and then a year later started getting ads and app malfunctions, but that first year was perfect. Now not so much, I’m getting prompted to buy unlimited again, but when I click to purchase Remote says I’ve already purchased unlimited, which is unfortunate.

I had an issue with the slider feature on a past update, but a later update ultimately resolved it. Works great with VLC. I highly recommend.

This is a great app, it works as promised. If I had one suggestion it would to add split screen support for the iPad.

Best media app I have used yet hit a few snags getting it to work but well worth the extra time

Doesn’t work at all. No connection to my iPhone and makes my iPad crash... iPad app runs until I open the program on my laptop, then crashes iPad. If I run the program on my laptop first and then open Remote on ipad, the iPad crashes immediately. Worthless

I saw a recent review bashing Remote for wanting money for features. This guy made a super handy app and I don’t blame him for monetizing it.

Excellent addition to what seemed to be a lost cause after the interface change. Still cannot work my Apple Watch to control the VLC of my iPhone which connect to the Apple TV. Feature that was most useful to me before the update...

This doesn’t appear to be fully working with VLC 3.0. There are no controls for selecting renderer to cast to a device and the controls for volume and selecting the next track don’t work. Also Remote does not go to the next track automatically in a playlist.

Update: I had to restore Remote to gain access to the premium upgrade

I paid for premium but still only have basic version

I love the versatility, however I purchased this some time back when I had my windows phone. I have moved to a iPhone and I try to restore, but restore does nothing.

Already paid for entire in-app unlocked features of the most recent updated app. But still can’t locate or get access to any of the new premium features that described on the developer home page. 😢🤨😡

If you use VLC to play movies on your TV, this is Remote you're looking for.

Works better than I could've imagined. Control VLC through your wifi. Boom.

I purchased the application features at $5.99. Anytime I want to use Remote it does not connect and asking me to purchase the keys again. I tried restore but not working . I feel this is a waste of money. I will try the other application.

Sometimes work and sometimes doesn’t ... not reliable with windows 10.... I have to turn on and off WiFi and sometimes works

I reported two bugs and they were promptly fixed. Remote is great! Thank you!

It works really well

User friendly- very handy

I was looking to use my iPhone to control VLC playback on my iPad Pro. This would be Remote that should do that. It doesn’t. Add this function and I’ll happily write a glowing 5 star review, assuming it works and doesn’t hit me with ads or some such nonsense.

You should simply charge for Remote in the first place.

You have to get the premium account to do basically the essentials, so what’s the point of Remote being free ?
