Crypto-Families Round Reviews

Easy to play. Gone are the days of buying cryptogram puzzle books and having to erase every wrong letter. CryptoFamiliesRound makes it easy and fast to complete puzzles. The variety of subjects is not only entertaining but educational. I am learning new things in different categories. Can’t stop playing. Hope they don’t run out of puzzles!!!!

I had previously searched for something similar to the CryptoFamilies in the puzzle books and there was no app, but I looked again and happily found this one! I like that you can guess letters if it’s a category you’re unfamiliar with. I just downloaded yesterday and seem to almost be done with it, hopefully more puzzles will be added and my review will be 5 stars! Just being picky, I wish there were at least a few more words per category.

CryptoFamilies are words that are encrypted. You’re given a title/word that “explains” the whole group and you need to figure out the correct letters. The puzzle will let you know if your guess is right or wrong. Challenging at times, some easy, too. Hint is available when you’re stuck. Fun to play.

Of all the variety-style games I play, these puzzles are perhaps my favorites. I grew up calling them "category" puzzles—"hey, save me the category puzzle!"—but whatever they're called, they're a different kind of challenge and you even up learning something sometimes, like if you're doing a puzzle about painting and you know nothing about painting, but you know a few of the terms and that helps you to get the others. Fun stuff.

Black Labs makes solid games (what's that dog's name?) and this one continues that tradition.

Wonderfully relaxing game, with just enough challenge to make me think and guess. I just wish there was more than 6 levels. I better slow down on it so I don’t go through them all too quickly- only had the game for a few days and am already on level 4 (each level has 8 puzzles).

Super fun! It’s a great way to entertain my mind. The ONLY thing I wish this did is allow me to reset the puzzles. I’ve bought a couple of packs. Now that I’m done with them, I’d like to restart them. I have 21 rounds and it keeps going straight to the end. It’s hard to remember which round/puzzle I’m on. Other than that, though, I love it!

I like this game because it makes you think but most puzzles are not too hard. I was going to also say I like this game because there are no ads; however, the developers invited me to do a review in order to get a “free” game. Since all of them have been free so far, I’ll have to wait and see. Regardless, this is a fun game! Get it and enjoy!

For years I’ve enjoyed playing word games in puzzle books. Now some can be played online! It keeps my brain flexible while having a lot of fun! I hope Dell or Penny Press will make more games available online. I’d subscribe to all of them!!

These games are tough enough to make you work at solving them but easy enough you can complete them with a little extra thought. Great to keep your mind sharp and alert … Highly recommend all the games in this series!

I really enjoy CryptoFamiliesRound. Not to mention it’s the only one of its kind. I think the puzzles are good. I just wish you guys would put some more out. I think the clues are very good for the titles of the puzzles it all seems to go together very well.

Been enjoying the game - I'm a big fan of CryptoFamilies - but so far it's easy so it's going by very quickly and I am guessing when I finish the rounds there won't be any more free ones... I guess I'll find out soon!
Update: The round’s get harder as you progress!

I’ve worked these puzzle for years. As with the print version, if you know the subject it’s great. Unlike the print version, you can’t skip a puzzle. You can, of course, easily find a hint.

CryptoFamilies is another great game from Black Dogs. It teases your brain just enough to be a challenge without it being so hard you lose interest. I am a big fan of the developer of this game. All his games tickle the brain with smart, fun topics and quotes. I look forward to playing more. Thanks. PopPopMike

This is a wonderful app for making you use your brain to determine letters and patterns. It also makes you review some history you may have forgotten. I hope the developers keep creating rounds because I love exercising my brain with this program.

This game is challenging sometimes and quite doable other times. The families are creative and cover a wide breadth of topics. Some, of course, I haven’t the knowledge or background to easily solve, but that means I learn something when the answers are revealed. All in all, a fine game that is worth the price.

This game is a great brain teaser. The ui is easy to use and the puzzles are great fun — their challenging and really keep you coming back for more!! I love any game from Black Labs! The developer is easy to contact and responsive to all questions. Couldn’t ask for a better game!

I’ve always enjoyed CryptoFamilies on paper, and now I can solve them online. This one is well done. All the words are spelled correctly (on some games they are not). It’s also nice to have hints available for categories that aren’t in my knowledge base.

I’ve looked for cryptolists, cryptoclans & so on, and this is the only app I could find that does cryptogram puzzles with lists instead of just “cryptoquotes” or “cryptograms”. This “list” type is my favorite way to do cryptograms.

Challenging without being super easy or absurdly complicated. I’ve become addicted. I wish there was a way to skips puzzles if there’s a theme I’m not interested in, but other that that I live it.

I love cryptograms, but it's fun to do the CryptoFamilies sometimes because you can do them faster yet they are still challenging. This is a great app to have on my phone when I need something to pass the time, but can't get into something that will take a lot of time.

I have always loved crypto-puzzles, and the Black Lab apps are the best I have found. They have a clean, intuitive, pleasing interface. I have even been able to get my daughter to work puzzles with me. A+++!

Great game. Games are just hard enough to keep you interest, but easy enough to solve in a relatively short period of time. I play it in waiting rooms or when I have 15 or 30 minutes to spare. I highly recommend it.

Do this type of puzzle all the time but in puzzle books, which means a pen or pencil. This is much better, more comfortable and since I am already carrying my iPad nothing extra to carry.

These CryptoFamilies are challenging and make your mind work. If you get stuck and cannot figure the word, you can get a hint to help you solve the puzzle. Truthfully, I cannot think of anything bad about this game.

Love playing these whenever I’m waiting. At the airport is great to pass the time. Keeps the mind active. I like the hints because I don’t always get the first word easily. No ads make it so enjoyable.

I grew up finishing the puzzle books after my mom was done with them. Dell and Penny Press were two brands. Mom didn’t do CryptoFamilies but I did. I had so much fun decoding! CryptoFamiliesRound is more fun as it fills in all incidences of a letter for you. Hours of fun!

These are easy enough to be relaxing and different enough to keep your interest. I enjoy puzzles while I’m thinking, or waiting for a doctor, or airplane. Recommend to anyone.
