Satya Nadella, the CEO of Microsoft, and a man who knows what it takes to be successful and effective, said that there are two things he looks for in new employees: clarity and energy. Sruly Bortnstein, the magid shiur of the Lakewood daf, has these two qualities to a degree that I have never experienced before in a daf yomi shiur. It would be wonderful to one day meet him. He does not teach the daf, rather he lives it, bringing it alive with background information and insights which sometimes I share with my wife. I think even somebody who has the time and ability to learn the daf inside for himself will gain greatly from the shiur. Sruli deserves five stars, the only issue - and it's a big one - is that he does not give the shiur every day. I hope so much that a solution can be found for this. LakewoodDafYomi itself has multiple issues: the text is poor resolution, and can disappear from the screen, either partly or fully, when the orientation is changed. Saved shiurim are not ordered and there is no way to delete them, so that if you download a shiur it can be a pain to find it to listen offline. When listening offline, if the daf starts on the previous amud that text is not visible, likewise if the shiur continue to the next daf. The application needs a total overhaul, ideally so that either the current line or section which is being discussed is highlighted. Nevertheless, even though visually there are much better quality apps, if you are interested in content, not presentation, look no further. Sruli Bornstein is the gold standard to which all magidai shiurim should aspire.
