4 stars but has some glitches

Love this game. Came across it on an add from a different game and honestly I play it daily. I’ve deleted other games because not nearly as fun. I rated this as 4 stars because mine has some glitches that make it less fun. In the gear dungeon- caves of (starts with an s) mine always freezes and shuts the whole game down. So I lose the key and never seem to get anything and considering this level takes forever it makes it a giant waste of time to try and play it. When playing the puzzle game it will move things the wrong way occasionally or not let you change pieces and you end up like wasting a turn. Biggest pet peeve is the “random” pick of hero’s you get when you buy a pack. I almost never get anything but earth characters. Or I get the same only three star card over and over. Plus earning pieces to upgrade you character takes forever to achieve.
Plus the amount of energy you need I order to keep playing isn’t proportional to how much you gain when moving forward but that’s super minor.
Minor things but really would be nice to get the glitches solved and the character card actually more randomly dispersed.
Overall love this game challenging but you still feel like you are moving forward in it.

Well Done

Gotta say, I really love playing. Have run into some glitches here and there, but they are always quick to get them sorted and provide in-game compensation for any missed or incomplete-able content. And I do find it can be very taxing on the iPhone 6 battery, especially with the volume turned up.
The last update brought some awesome QOL features that I really appreciate, especially hero ability queuing. I do hope they bring some customization to the notifications in a future update.
The game picks up at rank 15, which unlocks events. You will spend ranks 1 to 15 getting familiar with the mechanics and acquiring gems. I highly recommend holding onto the gems until you can do events. Between events, the daily dungeon, pvp, guild wars, the gear dungeon, the main campaign and more, there is a ton of content to experience.
For those who don’t mind to spend a few bucks there is the hero pass and elite hero pass that can help you along the way and I highly recommend getting them at the “new player” prices. While absolutely not required, it can be fun to splurge on a few extra packs for that chance at additional hero’s. For me throwing a few bucks their way to say “Good Job” was a no brainer.
There is a lot to enjoy from the game both in mechanics and artwork, but do expect to loose a few hours of your day having fun battling away!

Fun but becomes a chore

When I first got into the game I had fun. There are various game modes to keep playing and keep things fun. The events keep new cards coming and ways to earn rewards for playing. The leader cards that boost based on event skills are nice and keeps deck building simple.

Unfortunately, as the game wore on and changes started happening, it became more and more apparent that you had to spend money on overpriced premium currency to keep playing or stay at a decent position on the leaderboards. The entire game is built around you paying up for a small chance at getting the feature cards to do up to 7x, 10x, or 15x additional damage on events. Every single week is an event. At least if you didn’t have what it took to get the event deck you could grab the relic. Until the latest change where the relic went up to be 2400 gems as opposed to the 1000 which was easy to get from the previous event rewards. GvG is becoming over saturated with pay-to-win for ascended wardens and relics.

Overall, the game is fun and some changes were good, rewards for participating in events are nice with the quests they implemented. The biggest glaring downside is how big of a money sink it is to try and keep up with weekly events and GvG unless you like getting beat every time in one or two hits. If you aren’t one or two shorting bosses or GvG, you’re done for. Be part of a very, very strong guild or expect to throw a lot of money down.

Needs work, but is fun.

You need a game to be enjoyable, be drawn in by the art and story, plus competition and occasional offers. This game has all of this and strategy. I unfortunately struggle to play this game and not have problems with obtaining specific items. Gems are key ingredient in obtaining most heroes, and you can obtain other items in a few ways. That’s the problem, a few ways. Other items are harder to get and are not well explained. VIP carries too much weight, had it for a month and was not impressed. You need lots and lots of gold and other items to improve your heroes. These items are not explained good enough. Items in the store: gems, gold and…boring. Items needed for heroes need to be easier to obtain, be explained better, and stop putting so much emphasis on buying things and VIP. Items needed to improve heroes should not require a trip to the store or special privileges. Getting these items needs to be frustrating or require money. Love the art, concepts and strategies.

Pretty awesome

..says a girl who’s never really cared for rpgs. I learned about this game through a live demo and thought it was pretty cool. So I downloaded it and haven’t regretted it since. Collecting heroes is cool. Evolving them is hard. Awakening them is even harder. But well worth it I think. I do wish the items collected contained information on them just like the heroes have. Maybe info such as what it’s used for, which heroes or affinities benefit from it, etc...maybe have an area where we could sell them off for coins too. As mentioned in other reviews, in-app purchases are pretty pricey, even if it’s using your own gems. I too have been caught in the misguided advertisement of getting a rare hero card only to discover that you get it at a particular “tier”. (2nd or 3rd purchase of a pack). But, you soon learn to read thoroughly once you’ve made that mistake. Lol With that being said, tier purchases are pretty awesome once you can afford to do so. I was lucky enough to score a gem special of 10,000 gems for $20. (regular price is $100) I was then able to make tier purchases and get some pretty amazing heroes, shards, catalysts & stamina. I now understand why they cost so much. Awaiting that gem special:-)

!!!BEWARE NEW PLAYERS!!! Not the game it once was!

This has been my go to game for the last year. The latest update has made the game nearly unplayable. N3TWORK purposely nerfed the power of all existing cards by changing the mechanics of building intensity and skill points during a battle. In essence this means that unless you are willing to spend hundreds of dollars per week on the new cards with the new mechanics you will not be able to compete. Without spending on the current generation of cards most event bosses will kill you in one hit. Based on what is being said by more veteran players, this is not the first time N3TWORK has done the exact same thing, though this is the most extreme example.
This game is advertised as Freemium. That is a joke. You will HAVE to spend to compete!
The developer has removed the only method to acquire high level heroes through gameplay. As an example, to get a guaranteed event hero through the pack system it likely will cost you $100 for a single card, a card that is not even that high of a level. There are 2 more powerful types of heroes beyond that level. Neither of which is ever guaranteed regardless of the amount of money you spend. In addition, none of the most powerful weekly event heroes can be attained through gameplay. EVER!
Avoid this game for now!
If the recent changes are undone it will return to being a fun game where you can truly compete as an F2P in most events.

Terrible changes to LGOH

I have player this game for several years. The developers change the game quite frequently and you get accustomed to that. But, the most recent change, “New Dawn” has destroyed the game and made a large percentage of long time players very angry and, quite frankly, sad. The fun of opening the card packs and deck building is gone. The rewards are terrible and useless in building a powerful deck. In fact, this new release has taken all the fun out of playing. If you’re an F2P player, this is not the game for you. If you are P2P and have $1000’s to throw away, you might be able to get a decent deck here or there. Here’s the worst part, N3TWORK is not listening to the players and it’s making a bad situation worse. There has been no acknowledgement from the company to their fan base addressing the outcry and dissatisfaction expressed by a large portion of players. In a business environment, when a product is broken or dissatisfactory, you can return is and get a refund. When a company issues a blanket statement guaranteeing the permanence of an integral part of the product, and you, the consumer, trusting in that promise, spend real money based on a “forever deck,” you can no longer trust in that company. I sincerely hope these reviews are read by N3TWORK. They have lost my trust. In the state it is currently in, I would not recommend this app Game of Hero’s to anyone.

Good Game but horrible connectivity issues

This game is awesome in its mechanics and it’s play through and while it does allow for in game purchases it is still quite easy and possible to progress through the game quickly without spending a single dime on it. However the largest and most annoying issue is the games large amount of time where it’s unreachable due its bad server host, and even when you are able to play often times it’s so slow you might as well of not even gotten on to play. Overall the game is easily a very fun and addictive game to play but the lack of connectivity over time leads one to not want to play as much as you once did or not at all anymore.

Update
Company misleads you to believe odds for getting a particular hero card is 1 out of 4 by showing you four particular hero’s you might be rewarded with when getting a pack. However it’s not even close to a 1 out 4 chance to receive each individual hero, all this games developers seem to care about are getting in you to spend money by lying by using misleading information in the belief you have a good chance of getting a hero you don’t have. If you play this game don’t waste your money or the in game currency(gems) you get on buying heroes unless you don’t care about receiving the same hero a ridiculous amount of times instead of getting new heroes you don’t have.

Fun game with depth and great support

This game starts out deceptively simple. It looks like any other match 3 with RPG elements, but there’s so much more to it. The first 30 levels can be a bit of a grind, but once you start playing events and collecting event cards it gets REAL fun. I’m hooked. I’ve found an awesome guild with some friendly and helpful allies. I’m at rank 55 right now and still learning new mechanics.

It is a free-to-play, pay-to-win game. I wish the gems were a bit cheaper sometimes. I’m happy to throw in some money here and there to make that next leap, but it’s not necessary to progress. Just helpful. The devs work really hard on this game and are always introducing new content. I’m happy to support them.

The main reason I decided to write this review though, is their customer support. I submitted a support ticket for lost event keys and no joke, TWO MINUTES LATER my keys were credited to my account. At 10:30 on a Friday night. Just...wow. I’ve never gotten that kind of a response from CS. These guys treat their players very well. The rep who helped me was Nikki, and I want to give her a shoutout if anyone reads this. She’s awesome!

Worst costumer support EVER!

What to say about this game? The players are great! The concept is decent, the game play is extremely repetitive but for first six months can be very fun... card value is criminal. The cost to play vs the value of your purchases is only worth it for the week of an event. 80% of your purchases are garbage the following week and 95% are garbage by the time the next cycle comes around. The real kicker is that with how much you spend to play, the customer support should be top notch... #theyarenot!... this game robs you blind and then leaves you on the side of the road naked and alone whenever you have an issue. I’ve NEVER had to reach out to customer support to any company this much and most of the time my issues take FOREVER to be resolved or the resolution is non existent. I ask myself every day why I still play, but regardless of whether I stay or not, they don’t get nearly what they used to from me! I’ve been burned too many times to ever go full force into a game that just wants your money and doesn’t care about the players who are giving it 😢. Come for the concept, stay for the people, but just don’t come in expecting to walk away happy or even comfortable after playing. The price of admission is high and the the rewards are hard to justify 🤦‍♂️

The BEST puzzle RPG!

So currently, I’ve only left one other written review on the AppStore. I save my written reviews only for apps that I believe really deserve the praise, and this is definitely one of them. I have been playing this app: Game of Heroes since around early 2016, after a few years I finally decided to become a VIP player and I can honestly say that I do not regret making that decision at all. It has been so worth it to me, and this is coming from an old veteran player who started the game years before even considering becoming a VIP. I’ve seen this game go through so many changes in the past years, and although I will admit some of them I haven’t been too fond of, I will always continue to love and support this game with my whole heart. I know it won’t be for everyone, but for those of you considering getting this game- just remember that it is VERY easy to get caught up in it lol. Anyways, I’ve been wanting to leave a review for this game for a while now and finally I have said my peace. I just wanted to make sure this wonderful puzzle RPG gets the recognition and praise it deserves! 👍🏻

Ok game, but UNFAIR AUTO KICK MECHANICS FOR GUILD LEADERS!!!!!!

So overall decent game to play when you are bored. My friend and I made a guild awhile back but we both stopped playing for like a month due to personal reasons. I get back on Legendary , knowing that I would be kicked from the guild due to inactivity. I find out the the game also KICKED MY FRIEND/ LEADER OF THE GUILD OUT OF HIS OWN GUILD!!!! Some random person who we didn’t know was put in charge of it. This guy hasn’t been active for over a week so trying to talk to him to get leadership position back was useless. I contacted support and the refuse to do anything unless the guild VOTES to get my friend back in leadership. Well over half the guild members are inactive and the ones that are active don’t look at the chat. So I was only able to get four votes out of the five needed. Hopefully they accept that. ITS AN UNFAIR SYSTEM!!!!!! I SHOULDNT HAVE TO JUMP THROUGH HOOPS TO GET MY FRIEND BACK IN LEADERSHIP WHEN THE GAME SHOULD NEVER HAVE KICKED HIM FROM HIS POSITION AS GUILD LEADER!!!! I give them 24 more hours to fix this error of thieves before Legendary is deleted and I tell everyone I know to never download Legendary and to tell their friends. I’ve given them suggestions to fix this so I hope they update the game. This game should never auto kick guild leaders out of their position. It is unfair especially if not being on Legendary can’t be helped.

Money pit, at best

I gave the game 1 star. I’ve had it now for a little over a month, and I get the sense the the positive reviews were written within a few days of their authors’ getting the game. It was a lot of fun for the first couple of weeks, but once you are invested in the game it quickly becomes tedious due to the limitations of the “stamina to play” system it uses. Stamina does not scale with mission difficulty, and once you reach the elite missions it rapidly becomes a game of “finish a mission, wait a few hours for stamina to rebuild,” which sorta defeats the purpose of playing. The gear dungeons go from challenging to impossible overnight, and the pvp system is broken, routinely matching me against players’ teams with 2-5 times my team’s power (resulting in blocked or dodged attacks followed by a one-shot death, or more annoying still, having the “Thorns” defensive ability simply kill me with my own attacks on my second round). VIP memberships are costly, given the (minimal) overall benefit, and the only way to advance your cards is to use gemstones, which are awarded in a miserly fashion or purchased at considerable expense with real money. Having had both a paid (VIP) membership and purchased a gemstones package, I can say with some authority that unless you have considerable cash to waste, this game isn’t worth the time.

Good for new players - don’t spend money

This game is very fun. There is a lot to learn and many game variations. You can keep busy for quite a while building your deck(s), it’s exciting to get new cards, and you have the chance to do that each week/event. The reason I say it is good for new players, is because that excitement wears off when your personal level (not card level) is maxed. Then it becomes the same events over and over. If you’re super competitive, it may still be fun, but becomes routine.
You’ve read about the negative changes in LGOH and they are try statements. That relates to my next point.
The reason I say don’t spend money is because every event, the deck that is necessary to compete at a decent level, requires the deck for that specific event - example, earth commanders, water slayers, etc. because of that, what you purchased prior, may not be effective. It also means that somebody just starting today could spend money and have a better event deck than somebody who has been playing for years.
Lastly, the VIP hits max level early and the rewards have not changed. So, have fun and do t spend money, unless you have a lot. It may cost $300+ per week to get the event deck.

Too expensive

How hard they make it to get gems is ridiculous. You literally have to put out about 100$ per event to get any good cards and even then you’ll only get 1 or 2 maybe 3 if your lucky with a lot of worthless cards. This game would be the best thing out if they made it more easy to get gems. VIP is 30$ a month and the rewards are worthless for people who have obtained the higher tiers of gameplay. Evolving cards takes forever as there isn’t any rewarding features to get you the necessary items for doing so. Unless you buy gems and catalyst packs or other packs hoping you get some high lvl card that you can dust to spend on evolve shards. Dungeon rewards coins that you can spend on evolve material but only gives a low amount and the cost is high (can only attack once per day) and the cost of more keys is 500 gems per. Mind you 10$ only get you a measly 1150 gems. If your not someone who has a lot of money to throw away then this game isn’t for you, trust me. I’ve only been playing for a little over 2 months and I’ve already cancelled my VIP and decided not to spend another penny. Until you receive a lot more gems for your purchases or wayyyy better VIP rewards, I’ll be sticking to F2P which will eventually turn into me not playing at all much sooner than later.

Obvious money grabs without enough fun to make it worth the expense

I really like this game, I’ve been playing for 2 years and I’ve made great friends in my guild. I don’t have much disposable income, but since I do have patience and a lot of time thanks to insomnia, I've really appreciated that I’ve been able to make progress and build strong team without pouring money into it. It takes longer, but that’s ok with me, my friends and I have enough fun to make it worthwhile. That’s over now.

this app just implemented a new system that needlessly complicated the game, makes you work harder to get the basic event rewards that really aren’t worth the headache. They’ve revamped the packs, separating event cards and relics so that if I wanted a full deck for one event I would have to shell out a LOT of money to get it. And then I’d be faced with the same dilemma a week later. I understand their goal is profit, they are a business and I’ve bought gems when I could, but this is bloody ridiculous. Even if I had the money I wouldn’t spend it in this because it’s so blatantly greedy fir a game that is quickly becoming very not fun. They’ve tried some radical changes in the past that they didn’t keep, in going to stick around a little longer to see if they undo it or at least scale it back.

Don’t even try this game

I’ve been playing since generation 3 was first introduced and it was just barely OK. They got to the point for a few weeks where they did finally ease up and brought things that were positives to the game. Yesterday they went and threw all of that out the window and have made the game extremely unfriendly for F2P & new players. They’ve even screwed over P2P, VIP subscribers, and whales.

The communication on changes is absolutely horrendous and disheartening. I’ve played plenty of games to know when bugs and crashes happen, they get addressed immediately. If they don’t affect gameplay they get addressed in the next update. This game has had so many issues for months and instead of fixing it they just introduce more problems. They’ve made many promises and have not held true to them, mainly deck building. They’ve decided to add a new “type” saying this would of course help future deck building but has actually done the opposite. Drop rates are nowhere to be found and you aren’t guaranteed anything even when spending an arm and a leg. They push VIP constantly and have various dirty tricks to get you to accidentally spend your gems on something worthless, like skins.

If you’re reading this, please, don’t even bother.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!!

First, it’s not free to play as advertised. You will pay in one way or another if you try, and waste the most valuable currency there is.. time. If you play free, you better get used to watching everyone else’s achievements because it will be a long time before you can earn anything worth playing with. I’ve been playing for nearly a year now and have suggested the game to many people prior to this review, but I never will again. Everything they say is so shady, it’s a lie. If you want anything good, be prepared to drop a mortgage payment to be able to compete (not kidding.) After you buy into the game, be prepared for them to drop the value of everything you bought so it is nearly worthless without an advanced warning. Many materials are unreachable after a year of play. There are so many issues with this game but let me tell you all one thing. If you play this game, you become a beta tester. If you are beta testing a game you should receive a paycheck, not hand them your entire life’s earnings. It became an abusive spouse style relationship. After you spend so much time it is hard to get out of the relationship without therapy.

Don’t waste your life being some weird gaming experiment!!

If you value your money or time stay away

Extremely greedy developers I don’t mind spending on a game if I get what I’m purchasing the way this game is set up is to trick people into wasting money I have thousands of dollars in and I’m a small fish if you hope to compete you’ll be spending $100-$500 per week on top of $30 monthly vip membership and even then you are not guaranteed to get what is pictured and when you try and contact customer support they ether don’t respond or tell you too bad we don’t value you as customer one bit. It’s too bad that greed is so much more prevalent than customer service last event i spent several hundred dollars and didn’t even et full deck and i bought every thing they released every teir every bonus pack planning on competing on global level not even close i was expected to spend several hundred more and this was on one event they have four or five a month i reached out to developers and they responded after event was over with generic apology for drop rate inaccuracy basically admitting to the fact you don’t always get what you are trying to purchase you are paying money sometimes fifty five dollars a spin for chance to win what is featured isn’t that gambling hmmm

Game going downhill

I’ve been playing for almost a year, and the game is now feeling like a job, instead of being a fun game to play on my phone. The only reason I’m still playing is because of my guild, though half of it is now playing Gems of War, where they don’t punish you for playing. There have been some nice cosmetic improvements, but most everything is either a grind (Commander Events, PvP, Bounty, Gold Legend Trials) or Unplayable (Heavenly Spire, which has potential, but was designed poorly for the target players). They keep removing the things where you could feel like you won (no chance for UltraRares on Tier 1 of event packs), the event stores have not been updated, the dust pools have not been updated, the warden pools have not been updated and the WORST offender, the relic pools have never been updated. Rewards are now VERY out of date. We used to be well compensated if the server went down for 15 minutes, a couple weeks ago I was unable to effectively play for 15 hours and what I received was a pittance. My advice? Despite amazing art and graphics, along with a fun and unique gem board mechanic, I would skip this and find something else.

THIS "GAME" IS PAY TO LOSE! Too many server issues! The problems in this game are never solved! "The solution" is to add new problems to the old ones. Crashes and bugs cause loss of items, keys, trophies, and even real money due to unauthorized transactions. Warnings and bad reviews are constantly being removed! This app is full of trolls designed to cover up scams! People need to be warned about this SCAM !!!
