Does not count steps

2022-05-28

I put this on to count my steps accurately and to reset to Zero, as most apps that are pedometers do not. It works when the screen is on, but when the backlight turns off on the phone, it no longer counts steps. I tried keeping the back light on on my phone, but find it is off when I get home and the steps are not counted. I wanted a simple pedometer that counts steps from start to finish and be able to reset it to zero. Other pedometer apps count steps and the
all day and I can not reset them to zero. This would be a great app if it would stay running and not shut down when the backlight turns off. I tried everything to get it to stay running. Please fix, so I can use Pedometerα. Thanks

When it works.....

2022-06-29

When it works it works fine but occasionally it does not work. When I walk what I know is about 500 steps and it records 21 steps, I would say it does not work. Works most if the time. Would like to be able to register a goal so i can see how well i do each day.

I have started doing it manually. That’s for sure. I have selfcounted the places I walk from or to ans kept a list. So when I walked somewhere I just manually put the number of steps I’ve done. The difference is amazing. When I let Pedometerα count I usually come up with a few hundreds in a day. When I manually put in the steps I take I usually get into the thousands. Big difference.

When it begins to be accurate, I’ll stop doing it manually and let it do what it’s supposed to do—accurately count my steps.

It’s probably popular because it’s better than the others, or doesn’t have so many bells and whistles. All I want is something that will accurately count the steps I take during the day.

And the last two days it recorded nothing. I walked, was busy and didn’t add manually and it recorded nothing for two days.

Stops recording prematurely

2022-07-30

Pedometerα frequently stops recording while in use, which defeats the entire purpose of having Pedometerα ! Otherwise, the features for tracking distance, calories, time and cumulative steps are very nice. Please consider updating Pedometerα to fix the premature stop problem and also include an option to record continuously vs start/stop recording. I use another app in parallel that is very reliable but doesn’t display data like Pedometerα does. One workaround I found is to update the data by poaching the data from the other app. However, I shouldn’t need two pedometer apps to collect the data I want.

Distance Constantly Changing

2022-08-31

I give it one star because there are no “In App” purchases. After that I say the measure of a step seems to be changing . At one time approximately 7,500 steps was equal to three miles. Now it appears 10,000 steps is three miles! Make up your mind! I have always set my step length at 30 inches. What is changing? And why don’t you tell us something has changed? And why does the odometer on my car always show a great distance than your app? In the end I will delete these advertisement vehicles. Who cares if my steps are measured, correctly or incorrectly?

Useful, buggy

2022-10-02

Gives daily records of steps, distance, calories burned, and speed (averaged, apparently, over 24 hours midnight to midnight, so if you sleep at night this last figure isn’t all that useful). Would be better if you could break out specific periods to see how fast you were going during exercise, but otherwise it’s all valuable for anyone looking to monitor exercise over days, weeks, &c. One annoying bug: often it seems to lose records of previous 5 or 6 days. I have to restart my phone before it will recover them. It’s an OK app as it stands. With a few fixes it would be worth paying for.

Data imbedded in phone app

2022-11-02

I downloaded Pedometerα and found that my iPhone's version had back data (no. of steps, etc) already loaded -- for days that I hadn't owned Pedometerα ! So I tried to delete this data and there doesn't appear to be a way to do this. Oddly, the iPad version of Pedometerα doesn't show this "historical" data, but on the iPad version, there is a way to delete it! Very Strange! Since there are many very good apps competing for this function, I decided to delete Pedometerα and try somebody else's. Too bad. I gave it 4 stars, because wasn't able to try it. Perhaps it should have fewer because of this problem, I don't know.

Excellent and accurate

2022-12-04

This has worked flawlessly for me. I like that it consumes very little battery, is always updated when I first open Pedometerα . Easy to read and understand. The only thing it is missing (and this seems to be missing from all such apps) is a resettable trip meter or two. Sometimes I simply want to know how many steps I’m taking for this one walk in the middle of my day. But I have to remember to write down the start and stop steps and do the math. It seems so simple to have a resettable trip meter. I’ll pay you for it!And I would give you five stars.

Pedometer

2023-01-04

First, this is a very good app to use for all devices. I have an iPad and I use it when I go walking. I have to keep the screen on though because it stops counting steps if I turn my iPad of or keep it open in the background, even if I adjust the settings. Also, if the developers read this, you all should add the feature where it shows the amount of grams that fat is burned when walking. This would be one great feature added. Otherwise, it’s a good app to get.

Good app

2023-02-05

Today was my first day using Pedometerα. I like it for it's simplicity and ease of use. My only complaint is that it stopped working without my knowledge midway through my walk. I only saw it had stopped when I stopped at a traffic light and checked my steps. Apparently, this was because I didn't have it set on the savings mode. I think I lost about 600 steps. After I changed the settings I kept looking at it to make sure it was still counting. Hopefully, that never happens again. Otherwise, I really like it!

Does exactly what I needed it to do!

2023-03-09

I retired four years ago and have gotten increasingly lazy. I did the walking thing around my neighborhood for a period of time but scaled back due to weather and other concerns. I began using another app for some walking in place in the house but it wasn’t to my liking so I tried Pedometerα and found that using it on my iPad which was just sitting in a drawer was perfect! Simple and quite frankly fun to use. Everyone has different tastes and needs but it’s worth a try if you’re looking for a fun and uncomplicated mechanism for tracking steps, miles stepped, and some calories you may have burned, this may be what you’re looking for!

Very Good Pedometer

2023-04-07

Thanks for a good working app. Have had it for just over a month. Today the background color changed from blue to a salmon color. Why not leave it blue? It looked better blue. I like the feature of starting the pedometer even with a locked screen, very nice. The features seem accurate and Pedometerα encourages me to exercise more. Just one request please, turn the graph contrast up. Lite yellow on a pale lite orange is hard to read. Thanks, keep up the good work!

Be healthy by walking!

2023-05-09

Every morning I walk from 5 to 7 for 2 hours and 6 miles while listening to Thru the Bible’s Dr. J. Vernon McGee. This not only keeps my 69 year old body in good physical condition, but also keeps my mind and spiritual condition in good loving shape. Currently it is 5 degrees F outside so my next walk is postponed until the temperature is at 22 F or greater. Pedometerα records all my steps, and I get excellent graphs and summaries! Easy and accurate.

HTH

2023-06-09

I think it’s just a little bit too low when using steps and mileage. I walk 5.2 miles the pedometer shows 4. 87. Still a little off. Doesn’t count accurately walked 2.6 miles this mourning an only counted 2.07 miles. Would like to see steps and mileage for the year on Pedometerα. May 14th showed 1.8 miles actually was 2.6. It’s getting worse, today I walked the same distance anywhere d only recorded about half of the steps. Do you read this stuff or just collect information?

Senior walker for mobility & pleasure

2023-07-11

Great app for beginning walkers for fitness or just staying mobile. Pedometerα makes it easy to track my own progress without being prodded to spend money for in app purchases. I like it a lot & use it every day. You can also control your privacy & limit sharing with others or developer. I like my privacy. This is a great, small, free app. I’m glad I got it.

Good

2023-08-11

Pedometer works great, however I see one problem with it. The conversion from number of steps to meters is not accurate. I don’t understand why it’s not calculating correctly. It is a simple multiplication of the number of steps by the step distance, which is already saved under the settings. I find that the distance in meters displayed by the Pedometer is always less than the number of steps multiplied by the step distance.

Exactly what I need at this time!

I had serious back surgery and got out of the Rehab Hospital 12 days ago. They cut out several Vertebrae and associated Lumbar discs and replaced them with steel bolts etc. Now I am going thru Fusion to get all this to grow together.
They tell me walking is the best exercise and Pedometerα counts every step I take ( all in the background and uses very little battery).

I love it! Thank you for making it available free.

My favorite pedometer app

2023-10-14

This my favorite pedometer application. I have installed Pedometerα on every phone I have had for several years now. It’s the best I have found. I do wish however that when I install Pedometerα on another phone I could log in and get my stats . I have to start with a clean slate each time. If I’m over looking it and there’s a way to do this please let me know how. Other than that I love Pedometerα and recommend it to anyone looking for a great pedometer app.

Steps review

2023-11-14

I look for simplicity in an APP, in this case, when I went looking for a pedometer, all I was interested in was how much distance did I cover, was my day of walking good for me and how long did it take me to get that done. If I wanted a physical, I would go see a doctor. Pedometerα is perfect for me. It works every time, I don’t have to remember to que it up, it does that on its own. And, it comes with a bonus by tracking the history of my walks.

Very accurate!

2023-12-16

I just did one million steps this month and so happy with Pedometerα! I compared it with counting the steps in my head to start with (to check for accuracy) and it was spot on so thank you for that. I love the personal settings and the details of miles, calories burned, speed and total steps all visible. I tried quite a few apps and this worked the best for me by far. Thank you for helping me record my goal of one million steps for a month! Great app, zero issues too!

Very Good

2024-01-16

Very clean app. Not encumbered with unnecessary features. One could make the point, why in modern society are we concerned about counting so many aspects of our lives anyway? At least Pedometerα allows for narrowing the view if you want to count. That’s a good thing. Many apps go with, “let’s choke the recipient with features”, rather than focusing more narrowly on doing one or a few things simply and well. The Apple Health app falls into the “do it all” category. Talk about over the top and cluttered. OMG.

Update - not reliable, but good in principle

2024-12-16

I was originally pleased with Pedometerα but more recently I've been having problems with it turning itself off and I'll find there are still zero steps midway through a day and I have to restart the tracking. But even if it's on, sometimes - like today - I'll go on a long walk and it still says zero when I get back. Makes it pretty useless if one were to rely on this for accuracy.

Conceivably this reduced performance is due to my phone having low memory but I'd rather Pedometerα just stop working and tell me there's not enough memory.

Original review:
I like that it automatically saves total steps each day and starts at zero each new one. Display is easy to read. Basic stats are perfect for uploading manually to my Stridekick account, which takes steps, miles, and minutes active.

Daily display option

2024-12-16

I’m unable to see every day in the week when I hit the back button when I’m in the “daily” mode. Four instance, today is November 21, and when I hit the back button to see the previous day it takes me to November 16! When I look at the weekly mode it only gets me the total for the week but not what I did each day. That part is frustrating because I like to track how much mileage I’m walking each day .. training for a big hike and need to know!!!

Very Good App

2024-12-16

I especially enjoy Pedometerα because it keeps a record by the day, week and month. I find it nice to refer back to when I had a particularly good or bad day. It also bases the distance on the length of step which is input by the user. Two people cover the same distance with a different number of steps. It would be nice to track the number of stairs (floors), as I have to use another pedometer for that.

I needed a point of reference.. at 64 I Remembered that I was a national champion at 18 in the martial arts. Had my knee replacement 2 yrs. ago & thought I was thru.. Walking over 3.5 miles, every other day, in the very hilly Martinez Ca., I've went from 212 to 196 in about a month and a half. 180 is the goal. Thanks for helping me enjoy a higher quality of life!
My body now tells me and I enjoy the walk and indeed now demands it👌🏾👀
