4.4 out of 5
No sound

Bought the monthly subscription and the sound doesn’t work! I bought it for the sound..and the sound doesn’t work! How am I supposed to learn German if I can’t hear it? I have the newest software for my iPhone 11.
Also, the format is kinda wonky. You are taken to a separate page every time you need a translation or pronunciation You’re reading.., you need quick access to the sound, and the translation. Not a trip to another page every other word!

could be awesome

PolyglotReader could be awesome. compared to lingq and readlang, PolyglotReader allows you to import full pdfs and epub files, images and all. this is amazing, and for that i absolutely love it.

but then, you’ve got the bugs. and boy, there are plenty of them. often times the connection to dropbox will stop and won’t return unless you restart the ipad. the only way to get them in with consistency is to export the file from dropbox right into PolyglotReader — but that took me a lot of time to figure out.

at one point i tried to import books through a link and it simply deleted all books i had imported. all of them!! also, it’s impossible to tell which books will import correctly. pdfs with perfect text (not pictures of pages, but real text) won’t work. epub files which should in theory work, lose all of their tables after being imported. so, it’s a gamble, and after you painstakingly test dozens of files, it will delete all of your library.

will i stick to it? yes, because i can’t find anything better. but i honestly hate PolyglotReader for all its potential and really bad, absolutely terrible execution.

Disappointed

There was only limited or basic translations without buying a subscription to a dictionary. It wasn’t a huge cost, but all those little subscriptions add up.

Great app with bugs

I love using PolyglotReader to learn French and Spanish.

But. Once I select a target language in PolyglotReader (French in this case), I cannot later change it to Spanish. The mechanism to do so is there, but it doesn't work. I reported this to the developer but received no response.

Additionally, once French is selected, every book uses French. I cannot manually set any other book to another language. I can, with a lot more effort and taps, get to the Spanish definition for a word, but it's far more cumbersome than it has to be. Also reported to the developer.

Otherwise, it's a great app to use.

Now works but still need improvement

I’ve upgraded to professional to have full functionality. It did not work the first time due to iOS upgrade but the developer recently updated it.

You can load the books and launch a passage for translation. Unfortunately you can click only on one word per word which slows the reading down. It would be nice to easily click on sentences or passage because the meaning is clear with the whole sentence.

Also, the speech button doesn’t work.

Weird

I couldn’t even open the books that were up there

Great idea

Really interesting PolyglotReader! You can learn a language by reading some good books. Amazing!

Really good app for books in a foreign language

By far the best way to read books in a foreign language. I love it and it's super useful

Great learning app

Works perfectly! Highly recommend!

We all need more learning and reading.

I was looking for a new methods learning other language. Very nice concept. Good luck.

THE BEST APP FOR READING ANOTHER LANGUAGE

This is the best app to read another language. I am doing spanish. I don't know about any other language and how it work but PolyglotReader is so amazing ❤️

Great app

I can learn ANY foreign languages by reading books. Even though PolyglotReader is sometimes glitchy, PolyglotReader is great.

Useful!!!!

Professionally made app, easy to understand and use. I've been waiting for something like PolyglotReader.
Incredibly useful and well-designed app with great UI/UX! Thanks agian!

Wow! What an incredible app!

Awesome way to learn an additional language. Tons of functions like being able to select single words or full phrases to translate, you can easily upgrade to have stories read to you in a native voice, you can download more books though there are a generous amount of free books you can download. You can change background colors to make the reading easy on your eyes, etc etc, etc! If you are into reading and it learning new languages, you gotta check PolyglotReader out. Huge thumbs up 👍!

Thanks

Thank you for supporting persian language and many other languages. You are the best❤️🙏🏼❤️

Excellent

I use it to read books I n the languages I’m partly or fully proficient. It’s a game changer in my appreciation of untranslated literature.

Must must must must have app for language learning

I finally found PolyglotReader after much searching for an app to read on and be able to instantly look up whatever word you click on that you don’t know (phrases too) awesome resource!

Outstanding

PolyglotReader that you keep coming back to is the best app to learn from. I had already bought "tons" of apps, but does it all effectively for a basement price. Reading, understanding, listening, then speaking, yields progress. Add words to your vocabulary bank as you read and enjoy the story. It's addictive and it works. 😌

A good learning resource

I’ve been trying to learn Spanish but I was unable to find some good literature. PolyglotReader solved my problem. I recommend the professional version. It has everything you might need.
