This has been super helpful for our book club

I had been looking around for a while to find something to get our book club’s books organized electronically. Stumbled upon BookClub probably from somewhere on social media and immediately installed it, investigated it, and presented to my club. Everyone enthusiastically jumped on board and we even went back and catalogued old books from prior years so we would have everything at our fingertips. It’s been super helpful to keep us organized, log several months worth of books to come and meeting sites (pre-Covid). We are still using this along with our zoom book club meetings to keep meeting info up to date and book selections current. It’s great! As a bonus, recently I’ve signed up for and listened to some great author interviews. So fun!! Definitely recommend!!

Perfect for Today’s Book Clubs

I started using BookClub pre-COVID to help organize our book club group. We have a very transient book club group with members constantly joining and others moving out of the area. Before Book Movement we were using a group chat, but it became a full time job trying to keep the recipients up to date. With the book movement app, members can remove themselves from the group, and the host/manager can add group members easily- right at their first meeting!
I also started a virtual book club with my mom and sisters (also pre-COVID), and the book movement app has been so helpful in keeping us organized.
Since COVID, book movement has been so helpful in keeping us organized and giving us something to look forward to each month. I would definitely give book app 5 stars!

Believe it or not, I have non iPhone using friends.

Couldn’t use BookClub for my book club as some members do not have iPhones. It appears BookClub is not available cross platform. Disappointing. 3 stars for iOS only, especially for an app used within a group setting so it divides us and excludes friends based on phone choices. Even if everyone in my book club had iPhones, I wouldn’t go with BookClub because I’d be stuck with having to keep the club an iPhone only book club. Or with trying to figure out a work around if someone switched or someone new joined.
It would have been two stars, but this looks like a well designed app. I really wanted to try BookClub for my club hence my disappointment in it only being available on iPhone. I’d say I hope it expands but by then I’ll have decided on a different app and if I spent time getting everyone all set up, I’m unlikely to go through changing it.

Absolute Must for Book Clubs

I found this book club site on the web about a year ago when our book club started. Recently, BookClub, was added to complement the website. This is a great service. The site sends out notices of what your club is reading and the meeting date. Tracks RSVP of member meetings. Provides ratings, reviews and suggested questions for discussion of a great number of books. You can even view what other clubs are reading and which books are the most popular. Each month there are several books offered by publishers as give aways to book clubs to which you can apply and win. What more could you ask for. This is a great app which makes my job of coordinating our book club soooo much easier.

Ugh!!!

BookClub won’t take my password, you can’t log into Facebook to create an account and it doesn’t let your phone auto populate your contact info!! So, I picked five different passwords n I got an error message each time saying invalid password but no rules are posted anywhere on what the requirements are!! Awful way to treat a new customer n there’s no help button for logging in. Update: June 4, I was finally able to get in. Not sure how. But, I sent an email to Pauline, the developer and did not hear back. I have had to download BookClub at least four times. I go to open it and after logging in (it doesn’t remember me or let me log in with Facebook or google or my fingerprint so I have to input all the info each time), it crashes. Four times this happened. I deleted it twice and started all over again to no avail. I will pay for a working one. Very disappointed.

Keeping us Organized

We found this book club on the web when we started our club about a year and a half ago. I love the fact that it sends out notices when we’re going to meet and also gives you a two weeks notice to make sure that you’ve started reading the book. I didn’t know about the fact that several books were offered by publishers as giveaways so now after reading some of the reviews myself, I’m going to be looking into this! We always know when a meeting is coming , and we’re beginning to even plan out a few months in advance. Great app.

Gets worse weekly

BookClub / website gets worse weekly. Now that the developer is looking to make money off selling you books, following your book club choices has become impossible. The website crashes often. One book club member doesn’t even bother using BookClub because she gets dropped out of the club monthly. When we select a book for our meeting, the chances are pretty high that the website will show a surprising new cover for it after the book is selected confusing the club members. And once that cover is swapped, that book will forever stay with the wrong cover. I tried emailing Pauline about the cover issue and got no response.

Now... the website won’t even load on my new laptop.

I absolutely canNOT recommend BookClub.

Love Bookmovement

I use BookClub at least 2-3 times a month, usually more. I belong to 2 bookclubs. On one of them, I set up our club meetings and many times am out and can’t use my laptop. So BookClub is really useful. I can search for books and get questions. I love that I can easily add the book’s cover to the meeting and include meeting details easily. Once complete I send out the invites with one click. RSVP, come in easily and I can use BookClub to view them, too. Very easy to use. Love it

So glitchy

1. It crashes often
2. When I am on the discover/explore page and add a book to my library it only adds about 10% of the time. Same for adding possible titles for book club- you can make it work however by going to your book club page and searching the title from the possible books page and adding it. Also I accidentally added a title for my book club (not possible) and can’t make it go away.
3. We have a meeting scheduled for next week. My rsvp is not saving. At first it looked like it did and showed discussion questions for the book I accidentally saved even though we have a different title selected. It showed the host and I had both rsvpd. BookClub crashed. I opened it back up, went back and the host and I along with all other members show pending. I tried again. BookClub crashed again.

It’s just been one glitch after the next. Searching for other options to present.

I’m using up to date iOS on iPhone 11 for reference.

Simple and helpful

Our club votes periodically on a set of books to read over the coming year or so, and our organizer is great about entering the schedule in BookMovement. That makes it simple to see what’s coming up in the next few meetings, or go back to remind myself when we read a certain book. I mostly use the My Clubs section, but occasionally go look at suggested books. Too bad I don’t have time to read them all.

Book Club Necessity

Our neighborhood book club started out on Book Movement and I don’t know where we’d be without it. It allows everyone access to change dates and book choices so no one is left as the sole organizer. None of us can ever remember who is hosting next or when we read a certain book, and we don’t need to bc it’s all in BookClub . Great recommendations and now fun virtual events make BookClub even more than just our book club helper.

A Must for Clubs!

I have recommended this site to anybody I know who’s in a book club. It makes my life as a leader so much easier. It’s sometimes a challenge to convince members they no longer need spreadsheets and phone lists, thanks to BookClub. (Let your members know NOT to make their information “private.”) My only complaint is that I have made several enhancement suggestions which have never received any feedback from the developers.

Best way to keep our book club organized!

Our Book Club has been using BookClub for several years, and it keeps getting better! Not only does it keep track of where our meetings are, when our meetings are, and what book we will be discussing, it sends reminders and lets us RSVP online. It also allows us to share ideas for future reads, and I can even keep my own personal list of books to read and those I’ve already read. Love it!

Mobile Book Club

I love using Book Movement for my book club. We plan for a full year in my club and Book Movement keeps everything organized for us. It sends reminders for our upcoming book, asks us to RSVP to the host directly from the site, asks how we liked the book we just finished, and let's us store books that might be possible selections for the upcoming year.

Clearly designed by people who know, love, and want to share books with others. I highly recommend it.

Pros and Cons

This is the best concept ever! I love love love the graphics and the automatic reminders and automatic meeting option! However, BookClub randomly crashes (closes in the middle of something) and sometimes it shows the correct amount of RSVPs and sometimes it showed that no one has RSVP’d so it’s unreliable as far as that goes. The chat set up is awkward, maybe you should take it down and not even offer it. I love the adjectives but most of the time the ones I select are not the ones that are saved as my review. This was working the last time I used it. Thank you :) and we did win 7 books yay!!!

Awesome tool

I joined a book club about a year and a half ago that was already using BookClub . I have come to really enjoy all it has to offer. It’s very organized and keeps me on track with calendar reminders so I have time to finish reading my book before our next meeting. I also like the book club suggestions based on what we are reading. We may not use them as a club but I find a lot of good next reads for my personal list there.

It works ok

BookClub works okay. We chose this one because it's free, so I guess you get what you pay for. I like being able to browse other titles based on the club's previous selections. Creating a meeting is easy enough, although there's no apparent way to delete an upcoming meeting once you click save. My biggest issue with BookClub is that it quits randomly and frequently, often when I'm in the middle of typing something. This happens on other club members' phones too, so I know it's not just a glitch with mine. Definitely wouldn't pay for an app of this quality, but it is sufficient for our needs.

A must for book clubs

This is a great app. It is the one I trust for my book club and helps us find books, and not lose our info. Before we joined we had to email dates and books, and often got confused or forgetful. It helps us store possible choices, and reminds us of the meeting a day and a week before they occur.

Best way to share news with club

Our book club uses BookClub to communicate information on meetings, get book suggestions, and share ideas with each other. We always check out the book reviews from other clubs when making our selections. It is easy to use and would highly recommend it.

New to the app but great so far!

Our book club just started using BookClub . So far, it has been a great way to organize the monthly books and keep track of rsvp’s. The experience should get even better with more use and updates. Keep in mind, there is a difference between functions available online vs. BookClub 👍 Thanks for providing great technical support, Pauline😘

Book Movement app

We love BookClub. We started to use it when I started our book club a year ago. It sends out reminders to all members of the upcoming meeting and what we are reading. Also you can include the meeting time and place.
The only thing I would like to see is a member has not accepted or declined to the next meeting, it would send out an email reminder to those members only!

Excellent Way to Manage Your Book Club and More!

Love BookClub! I started a book club and it has helped organize and manage the meetings and also offers ideas for our clubs reads and questions for our discussions. Another great feature is that it sends out reminder notices to the members for the meetings and that they respond to let me know if they can attend or not.

Needs some amending

BookClub could be great but needs to evolve in a couple ways. Please make it so I can see who has been invited. Also, let me list via commas the invitees to send an invitation once. Currently, I’ve had to invite one person at a time. Also, the feature to pull names from my contacts doesn’t work, so I had to cut and paste each one. (Then I couldn’t tell who I’d already invited, so I gave up.)

Our new book club may have to wait to use BookClub. Looking forward to fixes!

***update- BookClub crashes. Is there an update?

Difficult to use

Nice idea but some flaws in the implementation.

The sign up form doesn't leverage iOS's features that enable autocomplete and password management. So managing your password requir s switching to your password manager app.

The text contrast throughout BookClub most likely does not comply with accessibility standards.

The book club I created keeps showing "A Warning Anonymous" as our book image even though I selected "Future Histories". Changing the image results in BookClub crashing

"Explore" and "Discover" seem like synonyms to me but they are separate tabs in BookClub . "Discover" asks you to select 1 or 2 adjectives without any explanation, and continues to instruct you to do so even after a selection is made.

Overall I'm not sure what benefit BookClub would bring to my book club, so we'll continue to use Slack as our means of communication.

Easy Access to all Information

I love that BookClub allows us to see all necessary information of the members and all planned meetings too. It’s a great way to stay organized and to decimate information. You can see which books were read in the past as well as those for the future! It’s extremely useful!

Mobile app needs work

The concept is terrific, and the desktop version works well. The mobile app, however, leaves a lot to be desired. It isn’t intuitive, it doesn’t display RSVPs, meeting info, book lists, or members well at all. There is a huge disconnect between the mobile app and the desktop version - it’s like they don’t talk to each other. I tell people to not bother with BookClub and just use the desktop website. It’s a shame, because I really want to use BookClub.

I was initially excited- but found it impossible to delete or remove any books once on the App! Frustrating. The Discovery tab is worthless. ‘Hand Picked’ for the Book Club made no sense many of the books we had added as past reads. I had high hopes but our Members need the above or wont use.
