Good for me

I've tried just about every app like this and thought I found a couple. The time, milage, speed are right close to my watch. I like the interface I enjoy riding (which I'vr done a great deal). Not a racer but not one that rides a few mikes either. For medical issues I was homebond for 20 months. Ny encoligest last month recommended riding in s stationary bike. Told her no way was I peddling know where. Didn't want je on a two wheel as my boned are brittle. Mentioned a recumbent trike, she like thst idea so I brought one. aI want to lose the weight gained. Added to that I moved to because of the dr I was given(VA), so I'm not real familiar with the area. Won't ride main Streets, so anther issue. TrailsOutdoorGPSLogbook gived me speed(graft) distance, heart rate (graft), average speed, distance. I understand many others do basically the same but this is presented grafically in a way thst others are not. This is the first time I was able to set a pace and better abke to manage it without looking at my watch witch is a distraction at times. This will be the first app of its type that I will contribute to the Dev.
Remember we have different needs, TrailsOutdoorGPSLogbook meets MY needs, then some

Good, long overdue updates; new bug; still a missing feature

After a multi-year delay (unconscionable for a subscription-based app), the recent 4.07 and 4.08 updates fixed a bunch of misc issues. Response is *much* snappier. Even with my 400+ tracks, bringing up the list of all of them is almost instantaneous instead of a multi-second slog. And starting a new track is also much faster and no longer seems to lead sometimes to a completely black app screen. So overall, great updates.

But they introduced a new bug. The Trails widget on the Today View now tries to handle dark mode (which I use), but Trails' black text is not readable in that mode.

And Trails still lacks the important ability to do a bulk upload of all tracks as individual GPX files. Uploading them one at a time via TrailsOutdoorGPSLogbook 's web UI is excruciatingly slow, and any tracks with certain special characters have to be renamed manually. An iOS update sometime in the last year or so enhanced the Health app to include GPX files that apps like Trails supply to it, but only a fraction of them arrive, and Trails' track names aren't included in the uploaded filenames. So the Health app's upload feature isn't a sufficient workaround for not having a bulk upload feature in Trails.

Before these recent updates, I was actively looking for a replacement for Trails, which appeared to be an abandoned, subscription app. With this update, it's back to 4 stars for me. Bulk track upload would make it 5 stars.

Abandoned

This used to be my favorite cycling and hiking tracking app but this developer has basically abandoned it. Unacceptable for a subscription app. I can’t figure out how to get navigation working even though it’s a listed feature. TrailsOutdoorGPSLogbook makes me so sad because the UI is so much better than every other app for this purpose but if it’s basically abandoned then it’s not really a practical solution.

It’s about time.

We finally have an update for trails. Long overdue. I continued my yearly updates hoping to see some more updates and I am glad to see them finally arrive. A big thank you for that. Now it’s time to test it out :-)

App disappears when trying to import GPX

I just downloaded and paid for one year $4.99. Tried to import a GPX file (the main reason I purchased TrailsOutdoorGPSLogbook ) and TrailsOutdoorGPSLogbook disappears. Using an iPhone SE (current generation) software version 13.5.1. Please fix this issue or refund my money.

Maybe I'm just slow, but...

Ok, TrailsOutdoorGPSLogbook follows your track wonderfully, and also has a great feature of automatically ending when you reach your starting point (I can't tell you how many times my run made great time on Runkeeper when I also included my drive home in the car after finishing).

But, there's something a little weird about the tracks. I do the same run a couple times a week. If I call this a new track each time, I have to resave it and rename it from scratch each time, which is annoying. When I noticed you could download tracks, I realized the "tracks" are probably set pathways, meaning that you should be able to save or download one, and then run it repeatedly. Only when I try to do this, there appears to be no way to restart as a new "run" on the track in question. You can call it a new segment, but then times and distances just keep adding up, like one long run. It really should be organized with persistent tracks, which can be done repeatedly as individual runs. Maybe I'm just missing it...

NOT FREE- BE WARNED

TrailsOutdoorGPSLogbook is not free after the first month or so. After that you can’t use it, which is a shame, because it’s a nice program. Oh well.

Go for it!

I love TrailsOutdoorGPSLogbook. It is a great addition to the Apple watch, and works very well as a trail running app for the watch. I live in the mountains and run with it almost everyday. I have been very impressed with the balance TrailsOutdoorGPSLogbook finds, between having a clean interface, and having a good depth of features. I love the options given in run on the watch, and then the detailed stats you can get afterwards on the phone. Having Elevation gain is a great feature and seems relatively accurate. I also love the great web display when sharing routes or tracks with others. All in all, this is a very nice app for outdoor sports, and i would recommend it for serious runners, not just people who do light jogs. Lastly, the support i have had with TrailsOutdoorGPSLogbook has been fantastic. I had a few questions and comments, and they were promptly answered with good feedback. If anyone is wondering if this is worth the subscription, it certainly is, go for it!

Used to love this app....

This was a great app! I used it religiously for years to track all of my hiking. It’s VERY unfortunate there hasn’t been an app update in 2 years. I just renewed my membership for a year and purchased the newest Apple Watch. Now the Trails app isn’t available to download on my new watch (Apple watch series 5). Most likely because of no app update. Now I have to stop using. Yes, I could use it directly from my phone, but that doesn’t serve a purpose to me, as I record heart rate along hikes, bike rides, etc. Cya later Trails. No more recommendations from me. 😢

Abandoned by developer?

I’ve used TrailsOutdoorGPSLogbook many, many times for recording hikes, mountain bike rides and walks. It’s great as a logbook for outdoor activities. For whatever reason, it’s be difficult to find a good outdoor GPS recording app, and this one so far has been the best. My favorite feature is automatically stopping the recording when you get back to your start spot. Simple, but so incredibly useful.

That all being said, it’s been a VERY long time since TrailsOutdoorGPSLogbook has received any updates. As a paid subscriber, it’s starting to make me wonder what I’m paying for. I’m hoping they do another release in the near future incorporating new iOS 13 features, like dark mode.

If there isn’t anything new soon, I’ll have to find an alternative.

It does what it should

I have been using the Trails app for about seven years. Recently the Trails app stopped working with the latest iOS. I was forced to buy TrailsOutdoorGPSLogbook in it’s new form and in so doing all of my other hiking data was trapped in the old unsupported app. I wrote an email to customer help and believe it or not, I actually was helped. It wasn’t a simple solution, but they walked me through it and stuck with it over an exchange of approximately 10 emails. These people really do support their app. I couldn’t be happier to have not lost all of that data. The new app is way better than the old one and has much better graphics. I think it’s money well spent for the Trails pro

Using Pro and it's Great App

I started with free version and decided to go for the pro. I don't remember what I felt the pro app would give me, that I needed, but the price is low. Anyway, I'm an old guy and lost a lot of my walking and cycling strength. Admittedly, due to laziness. I've been trying to walk often, gradually increasing the length. Living in Las Vegas that usually doesn't work in summer where temperatures are usually over 100 F and go up to 115 F or so. Then I swim, but the rest of year I like to walk and to keep track of all walks to see how I'm doing and to keep motivated.
Added Note: I'm still walking and now up to a slow mile without rest. I combine this with physical therapy and the helps

Good App for Mountain Biking

First I'd like to say the negative reviews below have nothing to do with the apps functionality. It's someone who doesn't want to pay for the Pro version (which really isn't required) and user error.

In terms of functionality TrailsOutdoorGPSLogbook is actually really good! It provides a ton of information for a plethora of activities and is easy on your devices battery life. It pairs very well with an Apple Watch and I enjoy getting a detailed report of my ride.

If you enjoy being outdoors hiking, biking, canoeing, or even just exploring, give TrailsOutdoorGPSLogbook a shot. It will only get better the more people use it and provide feedback.

Does not work with Apple Watch 3 GPS

I just spent four days in Zion Park hiking and was excited to use TrailsOutdoorGPSLogbook . Do not download or use TrailsOutdoorGPSLogbook. The mileage and elevation tracking are grossly off. For a 7-mike hike, TrailsOutdoorGPSLogbook recorded 20.8 miles! For 1,400 feet in elevation gain, it recorded 2,800 feet in gain. I contacted Trails support, sent both days worth of tracking data from their app and they simply said they cannot resolve and told me to request a refund from the Apple App Store. I wrote this I hoped that it might save someone the trouble I just went through as well as the disappointment of not being able to track a few epic hikes.

UPDATE: Trails responded to my reviewing claiming I did erratic zig zagging causing the error. Any person who hikes inclines at altitude knows this is the norm - they’re called switchbacks. If an app cannot track someone cl moving switchbacks then it should never claim to be a Trails app.

Great training app

I use TrailsOutdoorGPSLogbook every other day on my 10 mile walking route through town. It seems to poll the GPS more often than other similar apps, giving a more accurate and detailed route. It also lets you review your pace, barometric pressure, etc. throughout the route using color coding. Overall a great training app. Can be used without a subscription, but it will only hold five workouts at a time if you do that. I just erase the oldest and record a new one. Of course if you want all your stats you'll want to subscribe.

Love this app!!!

I spend a lot of time in the mountains all year round and have tried a number of different apps but this one definitely works the best whether I be hiking or skiing. I love that you can set it to stop recording when you get back to your starting point, as I sometimes forget. It provides a ton of helpful info about each outing from elevation gain to average speed. It can even use an offline map. There are lots of great features to TrailsOutdoorGPSLogbook. It has become one of my most used apps. Thanks for creating such a fabulous program!

A Truly Great App!

I use it mostly to get a time-stamped track to geotag photos. Does that just fine! (But you'll need additional software to actually tag the photos, however. ) Also provides distance traveled, elevation, other stats. And if you're connected to the Web, a map of your track.

Also intelligently chooses point intervals a track do you don't end up with 100 entries at the same point. And I like the auto naming of tracks: "Morning Stroll" & "Evening Run," for example. Has everything I want and more.

Delightful

Great. Affordable, simple but powerful. TrailsOutdoorGPSLogbook packs a lot of useful functions, like scrolling graphs and elevation views, into a beautiful and easy to use package. The (very cheap) subscription model insures that TrailsOutdoorGPSLogbook developers will be able to continually update TrailsOutdoorGPSLogbook . I would be very excited to see iPad and Mac version that all sync to an iCloud Drive folder (instead of import/export) so as to keep all my tracks in a single, easily accessible location. I have tried many, many GPS apps and this might be my favorite.

Good app but could be great

I have used Trails every weekend for the last year. It's the best i have found so far but has some very annoying shortcomings.

Map Labels are very small (almost unreadable on iphone 6) and size is not configurable. Add text size setting and an easy way to see it magnified further such as touch and hold over text.

Downloaded Offline map area is too small. I use this every week and need to change the offline area every week just for different parts of White Mountain Natl Forest. I had to create a repeating calendar reminder on Fridays to remind me to download appropriate map area while i have wifi.

The following is an enhancement rather than an issue:

Allow a destination and route along known trails to be selected and show remaining distance and time based on average (since start) and recent progress (last 15 or 30 min) speed.

Very nice and Easy to use

2018 Been using Trails regularly for about three years now and find it incredibly useful whether when riding my bike for exercise, horseback riding, to review performance when sailing, to keep track of long road trips or even recording a boat sea trial.

Has all the features needed and very reliable.

2015
I have only installed TrailsOutdoorGPSLogbook recently and used it a couple of times while horseback riding

Works great, stable, good features

Only gripe is that it cannot be installed on my iPad to view tracks. This is the first time I come across an app which simply doesn't show up in TrailsOutdoorGPSLogbook Store on my iPad whether by searching, looking at purchased apps (both iPhone or iPad only). Even when searching using publishers name../. Too bad it would be nice to review a ride on a big screen
