4.5 out of 5
Best on iOS

Far above everything else available on iOS, but has some odd quirks. As far as I can tell there's no way to reset the catalog font to what it looks like in the notepad; there are several menus for font choice but none of them seem to affect catalog appearance. Also, the default option doesn't seem to do anything either.
The keyboard is also very useful but import/export functionality is broken and it can get rather tedious filling in each key then each shift key one by one.

Does not show all glyphs

This does not show all the glyphs associated with a font. There are other Unicode apps for less that do a much better job at displaying and letting me put together a sample word the way I want. I give this 3 stars because the ability to make custom keyboards is nice, works, and is something others don’t have.

If it does what it says—HELP

This is an edited review, up from one star to 4. The implementation of UnicodePadProwithkeyboards is, let’s say, laconic. You pretty much have to figure it out UNLESS you discover (which I did in a promptly replied-to email to the developer) that “About Unicode Pro” at the very bottom left of what is functionally the home screen, is also where the documentation hides!!

That too is laconic but using it, if you have a clue about unicode at all (and if not, why are you buying UnicodePadProwithkeyboards?) you can do pretty wonderful things. I have to transliterate Middle Eastern Languages, and with Unicode Pro, some time and some patience, I am now able to enter all the characters I need (and more!) via a custom keyboard. Since I also use a hardware keyboard, this means I can have the transliteration keyboard open on the screen, and type normally until I need some weird character or other, and then, boom! Brilliant!

Five stars when the documentation is labeled “Help” or something similarly obvious. But an elegant little app, on the whole, and invaluable to me.

Powerful and Flexible

This is the most powerful and flexible unicode app I’ve seen to date, and relatively easy to use. Far better than UnicodePadProwithkeyboards I was previously using.

I was impressed when I saw the developer go out of their way to support an older app (NewPad), so that their legacy users would not lose content after migrating to iOS 11; so I’m happy to find something I can use that also supports an awesome developer.

No uppercase

They new language category is nice I like it but there’s no uppercase letters and it’s only showing lowercase letters and there are some uppercase letters that I couldn’t find at all so please put uppercase letters in there too.

cannot switch to other system keyboards

UnicodePadProwithkeyboards is great. one star down due to a big problem: I cannot switch back to other system keyboards after switching to Unicode Pro. The globe key that allows us to switch keyboards is not there.

BIG THANKS!

UnicodePadProwithkeyboards is AMAZING! Been searching for something like this for a while. What can make it even better is the ability to create custom fonts from scratch WITHIN UnicodePadProwithkeyboards . I will update my review to a 5-star when the current cons are gone... Pros: • Able to create custom keyboards • Wide variety of catalogs • Able to store entire sets of letters, words and phrases (other than single characters) inside the keyboard buttons. Cons: • Drag and drop feature when reorganizing custom keyboard • There is a bug that needs to be fixed in the “Search for more keyboard option“ for example, when I select a keyboard of preference, then deselect, I cannot choose another keyboard again unless I back out of everything then re-enter the option • No Phoenician script that reads right to left. I have an iPhone Pro Max 12 with the 16.3 update. Thank you again!

PLEASE HELP

Whenever I open UnicodePadProwithkeyboards it crashes!

Hidden

Like your app. Like the favorites too. Just thought of a new symbol you can add to your app. — title: Hidden= a box where you can install a hidden message or picture in your app or in Parentheses. By pressing the middle of the parentheses or brackets the hidden picture appears. Or put in a dot in the box or brackets telling you have a hidden message. If it is text, it will speak the message in English or any language in the box or? Like those emoji characters, but I don’t know what they mean: captions please. Keep adding...

Ignore my previous review, I found the problem

Last time I reviewed, I reported a bug with certain fonts... it turns out that the fonts I was having trouble with were fonts that had already been installed through other apps. So never mind.

At any rate, my overall opinion is the same; this is an app I use heavily. It blows other Unicode apps out of the water. A must for anyone who has to type unconventional glyphs every now and then.

Almost Perfect

This is a great app, especially using the custom keyboard. It’s the only app I’ve found that does that.

There is a bit of a bug though, I have an iPhone X Max, and when I click on the globe icon to switch over to my custom keyboards, the positioning of the entire keyboard is offset to the right by about 10%. There are 7 columns of buttons on a custom keyboard, and when UnicodePadProwithkeyboards glitches and shifts to the right, the furthers column (#7) is no longer visible on the screen.

I’d love an update that resolved that. That’s really my only issue with UnicodePadProwithkeyboards , otherwise it’s amazing and really is a step above any other unicode app.

Oh, actually one more request regarding the custom keyboards... Is there a way you have a custom keyboard with a more natural button layout like a standard keyboard? I’d love to be able to have a custom keyboard in standard “qwerty” style!

Thanks!

Great, comprehensive app

This is a great Unicode app. It provides a lot of information about each character itself, and also shows which installed fonts include the selected character. One thing that could be improved is hardware keyboard shortcuts with in UnicodePadProwithkeyboards (for example, it would be helpful if Cmd-F would start a search from anywhere within UnicodePadProwithkeyboards ). The keyboard looks great too. Would it be possible to customize the default tab of the keyboard that the normal keys as well? Thanks for the great app!

Has what I need

I’ve been typing Hebrew in Windows and eventually found the IOS Hebrew keyboard, but IOS doesn’t offer vowels or cantillation marks. Unicode Pro offers a Complete Hebrew keyboard that you can download and install. You need a font that has all those marks; Times New Roman and Arial work, but other fonts may or may not have the marks, and other fonts may or may not position them correctly. But now I can type Hebrew on an IOS device with no compromises, and I venture to say I can use other languages and writing systems too; and I can make custom keyboard arrangements when I want. I’m utterly delighted.

Essential

I have a PhD in Mathematics and an MA in French. Almost everything I type requires mathematical symbols or the International Phonetic Alphabet. You can add several math keyboards (by specialty, even) as well as several choices for IPA.

It's also a top-notch character finder and works with every iOS app I've tried it with. You can use it like this--a UNICODE map--or as an additional keyboard to gain the capabilities I detailed above. Of course, you can design your own keyboards as well!

Currently I use
I abc keyboard
II self personalized keyboard
III fractions/superscript/subscript keyboard
IV extended IPA
V kamoji keyboard
...and couldn't be happier.

Excellent!

Just installed the latest update and can see fonts I've installed in iOS through Apple's newer configuration profile process. This is GREAT! Thanks so much for the fix. Really appreciate it. Already a great app and now it’s even better.

Progressively more-useful as it evolves

Have been using for six or seven years now, ever since I became an iPad user. A professional in a mathematical field, I mostly use it to get mathematical symbols, which I can use in an email, Kindle note, etc. It also gives me easy access to extended characters, with which I populate a text file for a Windows environment. (Windows’ “character-map” application is borderline useless.)

I observe at the time of this writing that the application now contains definitions for mathematical symbols. This obviates the need to Google-search when looking for something not top-of-mind.

Simply The Best!!

Perhaps not the prettiest but by far the best! If you have an interest in Unicode then this is by far the best. If you desire complete access to each and every character then yes, this is by far the best. If... hmm, I think that about covers it.

nice

I give it at 5/5 because i like the letters i can type greek Slavonic phonetic and more i can also make keyboards and fonts which is cool and i like it

Great Unicode Keyboard

This is a great app for searching Unicode Glyphs and building custom keyboards to use. You can lookup and put any combination of glyphs on a keyboard for any app. My only very small complaint is that non-printable ASCII characters show as blanks in the keyboard.

Nothing better exists for unicode and custom keyboards

This is by far the best app for crating a custom keyboard that includes all the symbols you need, there is one minor thing that I would like to suggest which would make UnicodePadProwithkeyboards complete…

I want the ability to combine keys together to make a long spacebar instead of a spacebar that is just 5 keys in a row. The spacing between these keys hurts my eyes. That’s it! That’s all UnicodePadProwithkeyboards is missing!
