4.7 out of 5
Unacceptable inaccuracy

Identification accuracy based on labeled samples of wood. 2 correct out of 16 and it couldn’t even identify pine, teak, mahogany or rosewood or cherry correctly.

Completely inaccurate 10! this included Pine, Cherry, Sapele, Teak, and Mahogany, etc..

Partial identification 4! This category included woods that correctly identified the kind of wood not the variety.
English oak, as oak.
red oak as white oak.
English walnut as just walnut.
Black walnut as just walnut.

Correctly identified. 2

Zebra wood

I downloaded WoodSense to identify some of the project woods I had accumulated over the years and didn’t know what they were. After a couple of questionable identifications I decided to identify a group of marked samples I had from an online supplier. I left out some of the more uncommon ones and used the more common woods used by hobbyists and professionals alike. The results were so far from accurate I don’t understand how they advertised it as an identification App. I would never trust anything with a 2 out of 16, real world accuracy rating. The great thing is that if you have any wood that is chocolate or brownish in color, 90% of the time it’s walnut.

Haven’t even been in the app yet and already upset over the cost

It popped up on an add on fb . I clicked the link and it said “get” with in app purchases. Did not say anything about having to purchase WoodSense itself . So I click “get” and next thing I know I have been charged $22 dollars . So if you think WoodSense is free and think you can purchase only what your interested in or wanting to build your wrong . Don’t download unless you want charged immediately before finding out if WoodSense is even good or not

Basic middle school woodshop plans

Nothing like advertised. You have no choice of plans. No search options. And the plans they allow you to access, plans so basic why the heck am I paying these people. I can’t search get a free wall coat rack plan anywhere or not, it’s a piece of wood with a couple dowels in it. That’s your plan for it. Waste of money and time. Only saving grace is thy have a trial period so will not be renewing

Scam

It’s just AI and the instructions don’t even make sense a lot of the time. The pictures show different things, multiple units of measurement going between imperial and metric things like “80mm piece of pine”. It’s awful and I hope nobody pays for this because you can get better info for free online made by real people who really build things.

Inconsistent measuring units and listing identification

Materials list: Metric. Hardware list: Metric. Cut list photo identification uses numbers (1-17) for example. Cut list is in standard inches and is identified with letters instead of just matching the photo cut identification with the numbers. Like the idea of WoodSense as I’m a carpenter professionally signed up for a trial just to get some project ideas. I could see beginners getting confused or intimidated by how some aspects of WoodSense are set up. Judging by some of the other reviews I’ve seen (after downloading and signing up for the trial) it sounds like this isn’t the only odd issue. Highly underdeveloped for the price you would expect a beginner to pay for the services provided.

Not worth it

I downloaded WoodSense because it peaked my interest on facebook showing you things to build but when you open WoodSense there is no search bar to actually search for ideas and most of the outside projects are no available it’s interesting but not what facebook made it out to be

Okay

Based on the intelligent questionnaire when you first subscribe, I expected a much more thorough and consistent approach to projects. Cut lists, diagrams, measurements are inconsistent across projects. Some with board lengths in MM? The board list on my first project called for buying more lumber than necessary. Some projects are more detailed and written up than others. It’s stylish and somewhat decent for the annual cost, but didn’t impress. I’m looking for more tried and true consistent diagrams with accurate lists and helpful tips specific to the project.

no depth, no real craftsmanship insight and very low effort

It feels like no real woodworker was involved in developing it. Very generic, AI-generated material rather than something created by someone who actually builds things.

The build tutorials are terrible 😂 Extremely vague instructions with zero images. You’ll get directions like “attach the bottom piece to the top” , no joinery or real guidance.

There’s no depth, no real craftsmanship insight and very low effort.

I haven’t used the wood identification feature since I haven’t needed it, but based on the quality of the build tutorials, I’m not confident in the overall value of WoodSense.
40$ a year is actually insane for an underdeveloped app.

2 stars because i dont like giving 1-star reviews

Not Good

Mixed measurements, no toggle for Imperial to metric. Very confusing. Plans are very limited. Should have a setting to enter the tools you had access to and dynamic adjustments to adjust for tool usage. Great idea, just not ready for prime time yet. Should consult an actual woodworker before building an app, I don’t think they did and it shows.

Not a bad app

It’s not a bad app but doesn’t let you look stuff up only gives you set items even after you’ve built the items they give you I like it just cant see my self paying for it just to not be able to look up stuff I want to build

Doesn’t match social media ads

Downloaded WoodSense based on the projects available on the ads found on social media. Unfortunately unable to locate those same projects on WoodSense. It’s a kind of a waste of money for WoodSense.

Hoping for it to be useful

Just getting started with WoodSense but so far so good and look forward to seeing what all it had to offer.

Fun

Very easy to use and fun app. Super excited for everything I plan on building with ideas and instructions right from WoodSense .

Awesome and easy

This is a great way to understand where you need to improve and WoodSense is easy to navigate.

Becoming a true Carpenter/ Woodworked

So far all I’ve done in WoodSense is answer questions but I do love the fact they went in-depth of figuring out what I want out of WoodSense .

Stumble

Wife came across this knowing how much I enjoy doing this just had to down load this and can hardy wait to use it

Create plans

It’d be awesome if I could take a picture and it could give me detailed plans and it could have x placeholders if a dimension isn’t known

New And Excited!

I haven’t even been using WoodSense long but I should not still be excited to work on projects…❤️ it!

Start from somewhere

If you want to stay from somewhere, stay here pretty simple app to use and sign up for now let’s see if it’s as good as it seems

Pre-beginner level

I’m looking forward to seeing where WoodSense takes me.
