Needs work

It needs to take into account that some fish, even if they're small, don't do well in small tanks. In MyAquariumGuide , I put a molly in a 10 gallon tank and it said it should take up 2 gallons. So at least one molly + other small fish + shrimp perhaps should do nicely in a 10g? Mmm, no. In my experience, that works horribly. I had a molly, 2 platies, and a shrimp in a 10 gallon and after the initial excitement of new fish wore off, I realized that I knew deep down they weren't happy in this setup. I returned the molly to the store and got two more platies to add in her place. The four now seem to be happy as clams, and healthy too. The whole tank used to be riddled with health problems while I had the molly in there. Imagine if I'd initially added mollies to my tank according to MyAquariumGuide 's suggested ratio of 1 fish:2 gallons...
MyAquariumGuide really needs to look at the specific needs of each fish more in depth. Some produce more waste than others. I think MyAquariumGuide would do good to change the minimum tank size for one fish of a species to the min. tank size for the least # of fish in a school required for them to be happy. (Mollies really shouldn't be kept on their own without others of their kind, and given they're livebearers... Yikes! You're definitely gonna need more than 10 gallons.)
Did not meet expectations

I stumbled across MyAquariumGuide and based on the description and pictures in MyAquariumGuide Store, it sounded awesome. I downloaded it and began to “set up” my tank in MyAquariumGuide and add my fish. I tried to add an African cichlid, but found out you need to pay $2.99 to access any type of African cichlid. That was disappointing because it said nothing about an in app purchase in the description… SoI thought I’d go look up some of my other fish in the glossary. They have a basic list of common freshwater fish, but then an in app purchase to view any uncommon freshwater fish, any African cichlids, saltwater fish. You need an in app purchase to view plants at all.
The care and maintenance tab is a list of diseases that from my perspective would be very uncommon. It doesn’t cover any of the basic diseases or other problems you’d run into. And it doesn’t say anything about tank maintenance.
Overall, I’m pretty disappointed with MyAquariumGuide . Even if I were to purchase the upgrade, half of my freshwater fish aren’t even listed.
Small list of fish

Not many fish to choose from many common fish from store not on the list and gallons required seems off to me I added 8 snails and it used gallons required by 8 gallons seems silly since they scavenge and clean if anything it should lower gallons required there are no sucker fish to choose from at least not the common ones sold in stores and you have to buy an expansion to add plants send silly great idea just seems like there need to be more math involved. I added 10 tetras 3 angle fish and 8 snails said I needed 40 gallons min that's funny because I have all those plus two frogs not on list and two sucker fish not on list and one female sword tail if I could add those in guess it would say near 50 gallons needed but I have had all those in a 10 gallon tank for 6 months and everyone is thriving seems off to me great idea if you only plan on 3 or 4 fish it would b great it says angles and tetras shouldn't be together but the co exist great and many charts and people at the fish store say they play well together
Bad information

I have been taking care of fish for a long time. I have 6 tanks of various sizes. I downloaded this to check what I’m doing against what they provided on MyAquariumGuide. This is full of bad information. For example… MyAquariumGuide says a Jack Dempsey only requires 20 gallons. Jack Dempsey’s get quite large. They need a minimum of 56 gallons for one fish. It also said I can store 2 goldfish in a 10 gallon. Goldfish can get up to 12 inches, sometimes a little bigger. You need a bare minimum of 30 gallons for 1 goldfish., and even that is a bit small. This is only 2 of the several issues I have with the information on MyAquariumGuide. If you care about your fish, then don’t listen to MyAquariumGuide. If you don’t care about your fish, then don’t get any. Fish care is a delicate process that should be heavily researched.
I find MyAquariumGuide to be helpful when doing research on certain fish, but when you’re trying to figure out what fish to put in your tank the amount of space the fish needs is not correct on MyAquariumGuide. For example: I was looking into goldfish and when I “added” it to an aquarium on here it said I needed 5 gallons for the goldfish. No. That’s definitely NOT correct! Goldfish can get HUGE and need far more then 5 gallons! MyAquariumGuide needs to take into consideration the different kinds of fish and what they need space wise and not go by the General “1 inch for 1 gallon” rule. Besides that, I really don’t have any complaints. It has helped me in other ways, and I use it quite often as part of my research.
Disappointed, hoping for more

The information is so very basic on the fish. The fish are size classified by large medium small. I would think inches to clarify would have been helpful. I can go to a fish store or box store and see this same info on the cards above each tank. I can’t speak to the plants section as I didn’t buy it. There are so many more common fish not mentioned. The concept is good the pictures are beautiful for what they are. Maybe info like how to tell males from females, are they live breeders, mouth brooders, egg layers etc. maybe diseased they are prone ..... again nice concept but needs work.
Review Update Upcoming..

As I am a fishkeeper/Aquarist, fishkeeping is my hobby and passion and job. I actually saw a customer I was helping with use MyAquariumGuide, so I decided to check it out to see if it’s a good app I can recommend to my customers and clients. Afterwards, I will update everyone with a good review telling whether things are accurate or not. Until then, happy fishkeeping!
Update: As I open the app for the first time, I immediately test out combinations that I know are incompatible! You never want to mix a dwarf gourami with a regular gourami!! There are so many combinations that are just wrong! Besides that they have barely any fish and just completely ignoring central and South American cichlids? I’ll return for future updates!
Great Concept, Needs Work

MyAquariumGuide has potential to be great, especially for beginners to the hobby. I like the layout of MyAquariumGuide , it works well and I love getting to browse fish and read a quick overview on them. It does, however, need a larger selection of fish, even if you have to pay to get them. There are some very common fish that are not included in MyAquariumGuide. For example, a few I noticed missing were Kuhli Loaches, other snails besides mysteries, and embed tetras. It would be awesome to see updates to include new kinds of fish.
Needs more but pretty cool

I’m rating MyAquariumGuide with 3 starts because like the last person said, it’s missing a lot. There are so many fish out there that aren’t on MyAquariumGuide, it would be nice if it was more detailed. I would definitely want kuhli and weather loaches in my tank but they don’t have them as an option, which really disappointed me. They’re the greatest fish in the world and you would be doing a disservice to everybody by not adding them. Another thing I would consider adding to a tank is an African Dwarf Frog which isn’t in MyAquariumGuide either. I think there should be a section for substrate and maybe decor too. Maybe a preview of the tank that you could play around with after you pick all your fish and other stuff so the user knows what the tank should maybe look like when it’s set up. Just my opinion. Good idea and concept though.
Overall this is great for getting ph requirements and general fish info. But… DO NOT use it to calculate stocking info according to it you can keep 2 goldfish in a 10gallon and it’s 5 gallons per goldfish it’s NOT I would say a absolute bare minimum for 1 goldfish is 20gallon long and add ten gallons for every goldfish if the nitrates and ammonia levels after 2 weeks of keeping your fish is low or nothing. And there is more inaccurate stocking info I used that as a example overall great app for getting general data on fish! I recommend just be aware that stocking rules are usually inaccurate.

MyAquariumGuide is very well made , it is good for beginners on how to organize the various breeds from their compatibilities with each other. however ; this could've been improved a little more. i know MyAquariumGuide is mostly serious but you could put a tank simulator to see the different variety of fish you want in your tank to decide if you really want to get those specific fish or not. other than that it's a great game !
Our first aquarium

I bought an aquarium for my daughter and so far MyAquariumGuide has helped me a ton to plan what our next fish are. My only complaint is that I’d like to also be able to put in our tank cleaning and maintenance schedule. And I’d like to see a little more variety in fish bc we are newbies and I still can’t find some of our fish in MyAquariumGuide , but I just choose the one closest to it and go from there. So I’m overall pretty happy!
Good for New Aquarist, 3.5/5

Definitely has some good info when it comes to basic compatibility and schooling fish (it’ll add a warning in the corner if you have fewer than the ideal number). It is a bit limited if you have a more advanced setup though, especially when it comes to risky compatibility (ie large fish with small schooling fish can work if the tank is large and densely planted).
Be aware that all saltwater and plant life are paid additions. (Have not purchased so no comment on accuracy of info)
My main issue is the “size” info - it’s says S/M/L/etc bit doesn’t give any measurements, which is important to know. It’d also be a good idea to have a spot to input the current size of your fish, in the case of fish obtained as juveniles or fry where the tank requirements will change over time. I’d like to see more loaches and corydoras on the starter list, and more freshwater life - more snail species, other creatures that can live with fish, etc.
Someone else mentioned a search option and I agree, or at least have the fish sorted by family and/or habitat.
Note for the developers, there does not seem to be a way to delete a tank if you want to take it down.
Pretty handy app!

Yeah it could be improved, but MyAquariumGuide has served me well over the past few years. Gives you a good recommendation for the # of fish your tank handle. Also, gives pretty accurate advice on fish that are aggressive towards each other, and when you should only have one of a certain breed in your tank. Also pretty accurate on which fish like to jump. Haven't checked the ph recommendations, but water is a little hard to dial in if you live in places like me where it is very hard or it requires excess chemicals to make it suitable for your fish.
When most people go to sites such as this it’s because they have a question that they want answered... I found it informative and well organized, and in terms I as a novice were comfortable with. I recommend... but my 11 year old recommended first. I like that it’s age and user friendly. They do make great suggestions and I was left wishing I had begun stocking my tank differently according their compatibility notes from the beginning. I would like to see an option where one could build the tank they have as a base or template and then have compatibility matches linked within the pages. I think it’s an idea that would make your app more useful.
App keeps you in check

I like MyAquariumGuide because it keeps you in check with what fish are compatible and how many you should have per gallons. The reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it gives you full grown size fishes. Example freshwater Angelfish, it says they require 5gallons which is true for a full mature one. But a dime to quarter size(which is what most people buy and takes a few years to get to full mature). Those would only require 2-3 gallons depending on the current size(1in of fish per gallon of water). If they would change it to multiple selections on size of fish, I think would make MyAquariumGuide that much better(dime, quarter, juvenile, pre-breeder, mature)
soooo helpful!!!

Yesterday I was at Petco olive branch and I wanted to put fish in my 100 gal. Tank i didn’t know what can go with what so I looked and looked and looked until I saw this HELPFUL app I was like “what in the heck would this help with” well I got the perfect app it’s a game but it very genius! It’s something not a toy it tells you what is incompatible with what, like a River Stingray is incompatible with discus fish. It’s awesome!!!
Ok my only concern is can you watch your fish swim in there tank? I really want an Awnser ASAP please though MyAquariumGuide is so helpful! Thanks so much for it!!
I LOVE THE APP but 3 problems

by Gamesareo123
First of all it awesome I love how they have a profile for each fish! The problem is I can delete the tanks and fish so when I put a fish in the tank on accident I have to reinstall the whole app. Another is They are missing so many fish...... The last problem is you need to pay money just to see a simple plant😥. But the real last problem is that one tiny shrimp counts as a whole gallon, It should be like 10 for a gallon. But after it a good game/app
Would recommend to friends!

I’m about to get my first freshwater tank (salt water tank previously) and know very little about freshwater fish. MyAquariumGuide is incredibly helpful when finding out about what fish are compatible with others and much more, although when reviewing information about the fish some info gets cut out and I have to scroll down and hold the screen to read it. That’s the only problem so I give it a 9/10!😃
I love MyAquariumGuide. It’s very helpful and useful for devoted aquarists. I do though have a request for a fish: Koi. I have 2 koi fish and know a decent amount on how to take care of them but having the info just a few taps away. I would really love to have that fish’s information. I would be happy to give 5 stars if that was added. I would also request adding a couple of each categories mostly just because I want to read them. It would probably also make people want to purchase it even more because they have that amazing information.
Good start but lacking.

Many popular aquarium fish are missing from this guide. Such as dojo loaches, violet gobies (sometimes called dragon goby or dragon fish), silver catfish, bamboo shrimp, etc. Some of the information is iffy as well. I've had tetras, tiger barbs, Bala sharks and ruby sharks for years and my dad has had them for over 30, and neither of us have ever had any trouble with them attacking each other. Balas also jump out a lot and that isn't mentioned. I found it a bit ridiculous that something that was put together to educate is charging money for half MyAquariumGuide , (all of saltwater) and making me rate to view the rest of the freshwater.
Has potential

MyAquariumGuide has a lot of potential to be a very good aquarist guide, especially to someone who is just starting out in the hobby. However, as many others have said, it only contains a small list of fish breeds and would work a lot better if it had others in it. Also the slider for the tank size is very sensitive and it took me a while to make it to the number I wanted it to be. However, it contains good, basic, information and is very informative.
Good General Information

Pros:App does what it intended for. Short general info about type of fish, care, and needs.
Cons: Not a lot of fish in the list to choose from. Lacks a search feature to find the fish by name faster along with the pictures. Lacks ability to make customized lists of fish you own for quick reference when buying more fish. Lacks ability to add fish, reconcile with a central database for accuracy to increase the number of fish to search for.
