Buggy controls with Bluetooth controllers and annoying, relentless ads

I’m perfectly happy to pay for an app to support the developer and remove ads but I do want to evaluate it first even if it needs to be ad supported. Ads play constantly. Start a game - a long ad that needs you to interact with it. Need to change control settings and go back to the game? Another ad. Playing the game? Another message pops down from the top asking you to pay for the pro version. If you need to fine tune controller settings it’s a nightmare of ads switching from settings screen back to the game. On top of that, there are bugs with an 8BitDo Micro controller that don’t exist in other emulators which cause problems with multiple inputs being pressed despite confirming the controller layout is configured properly. The performance of the games were fine but the rest of the experience left a lot to be desired.

Crashes when using backbone controller

Emulation works fine if you’re using the touch controls but as soon as you plug in a backbone controller Gamma crashes. What gives?

BEWARE! DEV is selling your info

A retro PS emulator should not require your data/location. The DELTA emulator is the gold standard for IOS emulators. It does not collect your data and protects your privacy. This Application how is different. It collects data that tracks your location, data that links to your device, and identity.

In terms of us, Gamma is strict with what ROMs it supports and does not take the Bios I’ve used on duckstation. I’d recommend holding out for a better PS emulator, like duckstation.

The Most Barebones Emulator I Have Ever Used.

There’s basically no settings for anything other then the touch controls, Metal Gear Solid doesn’t even get past the main menu, once you go into the vr training or main game it just shows a black screen, also experienced no audio even with my mute button off. This can definitely get better but I’m surprised how they thought it was okay to publish this to Gamma Store when it doesn’t even work properly. They also copied some of delta’s design and Gamma requests to track you and wants your location data.

Cheap delta knockoff

Closes out when I try to customize controls Closes out when I try to use a controller Closes out when I try to screen cast The touch controls don’t even display buttons. Gamma is trying to be connected to Delta but the quality of Gamma says otherwise. Was very disappointed

Ads, Data Collection, Audio issues

There is no reason Gamma should have an ad when you start it up and then before starting a game. Other emulators currently on the market for iOS do no such thing and offer much more quality.

Data collection also has no place in an app like this and lowers my score. Combo this with crackling audio even after proper bios have been installed, it’s not a solid application for playing backups of physical media.

If you are curious about Gamma, tread carefully and know there are better alternatives on the horizon.

If the above is addressed and fixed, I’d gladly give this a 4 out of 5 but until then my score rests at a 1 out of 5. This is a cash grab at best to beat better emulators to the market.

The data collecting

The data collecting is an absolute nonstarter for me. Let alone the ads, which were reduced but NOT removed, nor was the data collecting. There are other great emulators recently released that DO NOT collect your data, and many have zero ads. Until these problems are actually resolved, and not weakly defended with “It’s what I did in 2008” by the developer (consumers today have much higher expectations in regards to their privacy), this is not the emulator to download. Steer clear.

Smooth, simple, fun!

This is the best (and currently only, as far as I know) emulator on iOS that emulates ps1! The frame rate is smooth, and I’ve had no issues!

CUE Files not supported, Only BiN files.

The emulators runs more or less just fine. The controller crash was fix. However there is 1 glaring issue, the Game Roms being read are ONLY the Bin files. There is no-way to download the CUE file of the game from the cloud/iCloud. The PS1 emulators NEED BOTH “bin and cue” files to work properly without audio issues. This emulator simply doesn’t read the CUE files which is a shame. You can only run the game through a Bin file, which sometimes there is more than 1 for a reason (You are supposed to run it from the CUE file). Expect your games to run with audio issues or to not run at all until they implement CUE files properly.

I want to like it

I really want to like Gamma but the current state is unstable and full of ads, the ads might not be as bad if it worked as intended but as said by other reviewers the entire app crashes when using a controller immediately and I found another crash when backing out of the load state menu. That said the roms tested generally ran ok with the exception of about 1 in 3 crashing before making it to main menu of game. I can see Gamma doing better in the future with updates to fix most of the issues but for now it’s more of a chore to use at all.

Rushed to get cloud

Upon downloading Gamma , similar to delta. Felt like it could be easy to use. Further tried setting up cloud saving, immediately crashed, trued it again and luckily was able to gain access but was stuck on syncing. Tried installing bios, tried 3 different one but still was unable to run the games with it.

Tried playing the game, immediately an ad comes up. Noticed that my battery was at a 100% and decreased down to 74% in less than an hour 🙄. Every time i tried to boot up a game, 15 to 20 sec add would come up.

Extremely rushed app, could have taken time to develop it and given an extremely well design app that would have dominated the PS1 community.

Why did I give two stars? Here’s why.

Don’t get me wrong. You successfully found a way to bring the ps1 games over before provenience did, HOWEVER when I tried to play the games I downloaded (even tho I downloaded two so I guess that’s me) i got stuck on the loading screen to the first level, the only other thing I’d give a critique about is the fact that in the default skin, there’s no way to tell which button is which.

Aside from all that. Pretty good.

Shady Practices

The ads don’t show up at first. About an hour after playing you’ll start seeing ads before you launch a game, and after! For the games that don’t work you’re seeing 2 ads just to pick another game!
The lack of information and the way questions have been answered is vague. I have removed Gamma and recommend you not download this until the developer is more up front with things.

Shame

I would really love to give Gamma four or five stars because being able to play your favorite psx games on your iPhone it’s insane.

What stops me from giving full stars? The fact that the audio like others mentioned it’s somewhat “crippled” when there are loud noises and stuff. Also the ads, is it really needed? I don’t see Delta having any of those so it’s a bit annoying having to skip those for playing games. Remove that and maybe I can modify to three stars. But outside that? The last problem is that no matter what controller I try to use, Gamma crashes. And it’s not really fun playing games like Resident Evil and Dino Crisis in this terrible way since you can’t modify the buttons at all outside the ones in game, which are also already pre-made layouts.

Truly a shame. I hope that the controller and the obnoxious ads will be fixed asap.

Sketchy, but only PS1 emulator out there.

Very good emulator but some downsides here,
1. Adding roms I have found very difficult because you get the file type and then you have to extract that file and then go into the other file and share the .bin file into this app, pretty complicated when you just wanna play some retro, and nice looking games. Also just get Delta emulator from Gamma Store for the love of god, it’s just such a well made emulator.
2. Developer collects data which is weird for an emulator
3. The EMULATOR HAS WAY TOO MANY ADS, like why even have ads, this is an emulator
3. They promote some weird company
5.They are somehow the only PS emulator out there, but for sure not a good one
6. At this point just get a retro handheld because they are so small and cool and I could go on and on and on and on about the reasons to get one.

All these things add up to a pretty negative rating here, if you just wanna play some PS1 games so badly on IOS even with ads, get this it’s fine for you but if you have a computer you can just use an emulator there and even if you don’t but you have like 60 bucks buy a retro handheld. Setup process is also very hard here.

No backbone support

App works fine with the touch screen controller. But when backbone is attached Gamma crashes as soon as you press any button.

Solid app but has flaws.

It works well for just hand held but crashes if you connect a PS5 controller to your phone to try and play with a controller. The ads before you start playing a game are a little annoying but hey I get it. Once the controller issue gets fixed I would definitely rate this 4 stars. Also don’t ask me why but the buttons in the default layout are a little funky and don’t have the (X, O, Square, Triangle) they’re just blank making it a little confusing. I’d love to see PS2 support in the future as well if possible

Problem

I’m hoping this is just a case of me being stupid, but whenever I boot up a game and press anything I automatically get booted out of the emulator.

Is there a reason for this?

Bluetooth crash

Any input from my Bluetooth controller crashes Gamma , I can’t give a better rating until this is fixed.

Needs dual analog stick compatibility for games like ape escape

I want to play the game “ape escape” which requires dual analong stick support and i am using a ps4 controller which should be sufficient for this game, please get it working and i will give 5 stars. No ads is a good first step and i got it and paid my money f cc or no ads!!! Great!!!

Gamma needs to use dual analog sticks from ps4 to play games like ape escape which is one of playstations best games. I don’t see how this was overlooked!?!? All the best games use it. You can’t cut off the tail end of the ps1 era when its most sophisticated games came out! Please add it and psp games as well

Xbox Controller doesn’t seem to have correct button layout.

Not a bad first start but the Xbox Controller doesn’t seem to have correct button layout. You would think the “A” button would be the PlayStation’s “X” button. Since both are on the bottom but no - its the B button. Makes playing games on an Xbox hard to map. If possible please fix this — or better yet, let us customize the button’s actions are selves in settings, so that we can map it to whatever we like; Please :)

Improvements being made

I don’t ever leave reviews for apps. This is my first in almost 15 years… I first used Gamma when it was in terrible shape almost a week ago, and still I wasn’t going to leave negative a review. But after revisiting Gamma and seeing the improvements I felt inclined to leave this note/review for developers.
- Added controller support
-multiple audio issues resolved
-multiple FILES actually working now that wouldn’t load days ago
-fewer crashes

With these improvements, I can actually recommend this emulator now. Its legit.

CONS
The Ads don’t really bother me too much if I’m in a longer session (Having to switch apps or changing settings triggers an Ad….I've seen worse, but it could also be better…. The PPSPP Emulator has a slightly better and less tedious advertisement mold that maybe you guys could use???? If there was an Ad Free paid version, I would purchase due to the fact actually improvements tho…. Still a little more crashing and audio issues I’d like, but much less than before.

3.8/5

Good, but needs an audio fix

On all the games I have, the audio sounds distorted and it almost sounds like someone is turning a microphone on and off. I don’t even want to play certain games like Symphony of the Night because the soundtrack is half the reason I play it lol. But other than that, it’s works great!

Changed my 1 star rating to 3

I recently wrote a review on Gamma and I didn’t like it because of the ads and no controller support. Once I heard about the update fixing the controller support and ads, I noticed a huge difference. Now Gamma is enjoyable with the controller and less ads. I can see what needs to be tweaked up still. For example the audio can be choppy and the quality of the graphics can be rough. I tried playing spideman 2 enter electro on Gamma and it runs greatly with a couple of audio flaws but nothing too major. Some of the text are a little unreadable but I was able to pick up what the text was saying. I see a bright future with Gamma, soon I see myself coming back and changing it to 5 stars

Controller bug?

App crashes whenever I press any button or move the joysticks, and crashes when I go into options to change the controller mapping. Aside of that it runs fine and does what it’s supported to do

It does what it needs to do.

While I myself haven’t run into compatibility issues, I have run into cases of the emulator crashing when I load a savestate. Also, please do be aware Gamma has ads and also tracks various details relating to you.
While it works for now, I would recommend dropping it as soon as another PSX emulator arrives on the AppStore.

U can’t use ur controller

Second time happening to me .First at the lunch of Gamma and we waited for an update they fix it and we were happy now after at least 5 updates we got back to back at the first problem it get out of Gamma

Almost There!

I REALLY hope the Dev sees my review. Dev, I kid you hit, the only thing missing from Gamma is the ability to pair it with a controller.

As many have stated, whenever you do pair a controller, the second you press ANY button the entire app crashes. Please do your best to fix this issue so many of us can finally enjoy our favorite games from one of the golden era’s of gaming 🫡👍

L1, R1, and R2 (Landscape Mode) Not Working

The buttons: L1, R1, and R2; are not working in Landscape layout mode in this app versions: 1.3.5 and 1.4.0. This was tested by trying to press these buttons in games that used them as well as noticing there was no vibration feedback response when these buttons were pressed.
Please fix these buttons in Landscape layout mode as it prevents a large amount of games from being unable to play and progress.

Added Device Details Per Developer Response: iPhone Model: iPhone 8 Plus
iOS version: 16.4.1 (a)
Primary Game Exhibiting Issue: Resident Evil Director’s Cut Dual Shock Version (NTSC/USA) this app Version: 1.3.5 and 1.4.0
Remark: Thanks to developer for replying, and researching the issue! Hopefully there’s a fix! :)
(I will update the review to 5 stars as well as pay the one-time purchase fee for this app Pro if this is fixed!)

Great emulator just needs work on controls

I’ve tried a couple games now and they work very well on the visual and frame rate side. The only problem is the triggers and bumpers (L1,L2,R1,R2) don’t work well on the touchscreen controls. In vertical those buttons don’t work at all. In horizontal the input will work occasionally if I smash my thumbs around the edge of the screen. I’m currently trying it on an iPhone SE. If there’s a fix or it gets patched I’d really appreciate it.

A few issues but cool to see

1. App crashes when you connect Bluetooth controller and press a button 2. The md5 deep links seem to be broken and don't let you link them to a shortcut like delta. It just throws an error saying it can't find Gamma . 3. The built in syncing service doesn't seem to be syncing my save data, just the game file itself. 4. The audio is pretty crackly whenever there's a "loud" noise such as an explosion like in the intro scene to crash 2. If these were fixed I'd give 5 stars!

Controller support doesn’t work

Using a Backbone controller keeps crashing Gamma

Good emulation! Mostly…

Once I heard that Gamma was released to Gamma Store I instantly went and downloaded it. I enjoy playing PS1 games and figured this would be the perfect solution to playing them on my phone.

Well, that was mostly the case. Emulation is smooth, but the soundtrack in one particular game is messed up. Said game is Need for Speed 3: Hot Pursuit. I have tried two different game files and both have a messed up menu and gameplay soundtrack. The soundtrack just repeats the first couple beats and never plays through the entire song. I do not have this issue in RetroArch, so I know the files themselves are perfectly fine.

I have also tried NFS: Porsche Unleashed and SimCity 2000 and both work perfectly fine with zero soundtrack issues.

I’d give it 5 stars if my favorite PS1 game wasn’t messed up! Despite this I 100% recommend you download Gamma if you’re into emulation and PS1 gaming.

app crashes when i press any button on my backbone controller

it seems to work perfectly fine without it though, but im not playing ps1 with touch controls

It would have been 5 stars if the controllers work

Works great until you use a physical controller. Please fix dev so I can update my 3 stars to 5.

App not working

So you know me, playing games on the go is fun, and as soon as this came out, I was ecstatic! When I tried to import a file however, it kept saying “error importing file”. Is there going to be a fix for this?

Not Terrible

Definetly isn’t as smooth as Delta, but if you have the right game it works fine. Only problem, some games don’t have audio due to seperate files, and the emulator only reading .bin files so games like UMK3 and SFA3 work, but don’t have music. Load times are kinda long but expected kinda expected. Some games don’t work at all and I don’t know why, MGS only gets past the difficulty select before showing nothin but black. And i’ve heard, not tested, that bluetooth controllers crash the game. There are still alot of tweaks needed for this to run as seamlessly as Delta, but its fine right now, especially if you’re a Crash fan, cause that games runs really well for some reason.

Need backbone support

When using backbone controller it crashes.

On screen controller works fine. But would love to be able to play with the backbone.

Good emulation but could be better

Anybody else getting random ads? The games I got ran pretty good at worst to perfect at best. But 90% of the games I play on there are fighting games missing vs mode which is odd. Also downloading games seems like more of a hassle then other emulators, don’t know if that’s just a ps1 thing. Definitely worth a shot if you got some games that are way to expensive for you to buy on ur own but until ads are removed I’m good personally

Pretty good emulator

Update: Thank you for the option to remove ads. $5 isn’t too bad considering the devs have also been updating Gamma regularly. I like the direction this app is going. Keep it up.

Original:
Everything about this emulator seems great: the user interface, ease of adding games, and support for controllers and other options. If you are familiar with the Delta app, you will know your way around this app. It’s essentially the same thing. It emulates games well; however, I did encounter a few issues with some games not working or partially working. I’m sure future updates can fix this. The major issue is the ads. Open Gamma , ad. Open a game, ad. Hang on the opening screen too long, ad. During the ad, it automatically opens Gamma Store so you can close out of it and continue watching the same ad even longer. The majority of these ads are egregiously long, the kind you can’t get out of until 2 minutes later. Then it will automatically open Gamma Store to the product and continue the ad even more. This really kills the experience and mood. I suggest getting RetroArch. It plays PS One games with no issues. It’s not as intuitive as this app, but if you take the time to learn how to set it up, the experience will be better. Best of all, RetroArch has no ads, so you can play right away. Do better, this app.

Awesome PSX Emulator, almost perfect!

this app is a fantastic PSX emulator for iOS. It’s incredibly user-friendly, thanks to its UI design borrowed from Delta, making it easy to navigate even for beginners. So far, I’ve experienced no playability issues, and the games run smoothly.

I was happy to purchase the pro version, which was well worth it to disable the ads and support the development of Gamma and its creator. It’s clear a lot of love and effort has gone into this emulator.

One area for improvement is the addition of quick menu options to the controller’s full screen. Currently, when a controller is plugged in, the emulator goes into full screen mode, making the menus inaccessible. This creates a hassle whenever I want to save/load game stats, use the speed feature, or switch games, as I need to unplug the controller to exit full screen mode.

Additionally, the fast forward/speed feature could be improved. It isn’t quite fast enough, and a second, much faster speed option would be great for speeding through PSX game loading screens.

Another useful addition would be support for 7z file extensions, which would make it easier to add more games.

Overall, I am very pleased with this app. It provides a constant trip down memory lane, allowing me to revisit my cherished childhood favorite games. Highly recommended!

Touch controls

I’ve seen Gamma on iPhone 12 mini and it works great but on the 2016 se. I know it’s old but it actually runs things pretty smooth it’s just with the touch buttons. The R and L buttons both 1 and 2 don’t press when playing in portrait mode and when in landscape the L ones work but the R buttons aren’t working where the buttons show on the screen. Other than that it’s good

Not bad, could be better

The ads are obviously annoying, and some of the games look a little funky with graphic tearing and such, but overall very smooth and pretty fun! It’s great to relive the old days with nostalgia right at your pocket.

Our teachers used to tell us we wouldn’t have a calculator with us at all times lol, boy they were wrong! We got much more than that now!

Some games won’t work?

I’ve got the correct files and everything including the bios bin, yet when I try to load t certain ps 1 rhythm game, it gets stuck after loading a level yet plays the sound still, like I can’t see or play the game but the stages music is still being played in the background. Otherwise good emulator but maybe could I get an explanation on how to fix? (The game is um jammer lammy btw)

Working but stop playin adds so annoying

Have to restart the game sometimes because the adds will cause it the loading to glitch I get it force you to buy paid their no dummies

Works as expected

Works perfectly. I’m not experiencing any ads, but maybe because I’m always running an ad blocker. 4 stars for sure. I’d give it 5 if there was an ability to sync save game data ONLY and not ALL data. I added about 5 games and my Google drive is almost full.

Audio crackling issue

The audio crackling issue came back after last update.

Not bad but..

Not bad but the audio emulation isn’t the greatest and could use some extra options like Gaussian so that Silent Hill doesn’t have extremely ear piercing distorted music. Other than that it seems decent and I had some fun with it. I also like the simplicity of it and how user friendly it is. Very easy to learn in comparison to RetroArch albeit with less customization and with ads. I hope you guys do fix the audio emulation though BC I honestly prefer this over RetroArch simply BC of the ease of use and simplistic but clean interface.

The update really did improve

The update has made Gamma significantly better and i’m happy considerably fast. I still have a quite bit of issue with the ads and dealing with the files. However, i’m still happy the developer of Gamma actually updated some of the big mistake. I’m excited to see the next update

Cool app

You have to computer nerd out for a couple hrs to get it to work with Mac. Would have gave it 5 stars if not for the adds and it’s hard to figure out. Works great when do though.

Getting there.

Gamma is staring to come together for sure but its still missing some features that are on Duckstation and Medafin. The one feature I would love to see more than anything is retroachievement support. While Beetle on RetroArch has support it’s missing support for PBP files for unlocking them. Duckstation has it and I’m hoping that this app will also. I also purchased it to support the developer and other should too if they want to see this grow.

Great Emulator

Great emulator…. But ads pop up occasionally. It isn’t excessive thankfully but please give me an option to pay for no ads, I would absolutely pay it!!! Other than that, the control pad in portrait mode needs to be tweaked a bit. Because of the odd shape of the button layout, I find myself accidentally pressing the circle button when I meant to press the X button, or press circle while pressing X. An option to customize my own sizes of the buttons would be great.

Great start, but…

Update for v1.1.0
- Problems with controllers are fixed now, thanks!! 😊
- So far no crash neither 😊
- Distortions I was talking about seems also gone 😊

I think this version is already pretty great, I would be willing to pay to get rid off ads. Bumping stars from 2 to 4 😊 (inability to remove ads, still few minor rendering glitches)

Original review for v1.0.0
Emulator itself is working great, but there are too many of problems which prevents me give me more stars at this moment 😕 - App is always crashing with backbone one controller when I press any button. - Virtual keyboard is missing labels on what button is which. - In portrait mode image is somehow distorted. - I did not find way how to get rid off the ads (payment option) Biggest problem is definitely inability to use controller, it’s making it unusable for me 😕

It’s almost perfect. Almost.

For one, I’d like to say that this is a decent PS1 emulator. It’s designed more like Delta is and is I suppose the more familiar UI design that is not as complex with settings and more intuitive. Download a file, move it to the appropriate folder, and add it to your library. Simple, straight to the point, and it runs (for the most part) pretty well. It’s far simpler than RetroArch, but way less “powerful” or customizable. It’s a streamlined experience compared to RetroArch.

There’s a couple of very minor things that could be improved, though. I decided to support Gamma by becoming a member so I’d like to add my two cents.

For one, there should be more settings to play around with. Graphical settings, in particular. What resolution, scale, etc. There’s also smaller things like no support for analog sticks using touch controls (WIP from what I’ve read).

I don’t have much time to write more in depth, but this is a good enough emulator on iOS that is more than capable of playing most games, and there is still so much room for improvement. I expect Gamma to really evolve and get refined over the next year or so.

4/5 until other things get added/fixed

外接手柄有bug

外接手柄有bug,闪退

Getting Better!

Gamma has only been out a few days, so I find it promising that a handful of updates have already been addressed. It’s awesome being able to play my PlayStation games with a controller now that those issues seem to be fixed.

I’d love to see the ads and tracking go away, even if there is a reasonable cost to do so. Aside from that, I don’t know what’s typical for emulators with multiple discs, but it would be cool if there was a way to combine the discs into a single cover through naming conventions or a menu option to merge discs so things are a little more organized. I have a lot of RPGs that all tend to have 2-4 discs.

Thanks for a great product so far!

Solid app, but desperately needs dualshock

I really don’t have anything bad to say about this app other than it doesn’t really have options for dualshock emulation. For most PS1 games, this isn’t actually that big of a deal, but Ape Escape, for example, is totally unplayable as far as I can tell as that game required a dualshock controller to play at all (the d-pad isn’t bound to movement or action in that game; the analogue sticks are). All I ask is that Gamma gets the necessary support to make dualshock games and control schemes playable. Otherwise, I think it’s a fine app (tho I think having ads on an emulator of all things is pretty bogus; I’m willing to tolerate it purely for the the convenience Gamma provides me, especially compared to the functional nightmare that is Retroarch).

Great app now with updates!

“Heavy ads ALL the time, no real controller support since it instantly crashes once you connect to it (8bitdo Sn30 pro) and often giving this static noise from games, don’t know if that’s the game files themselves or Gamma though but for now it’s pretty much barely used and will wait for fixes or better app to come out.”

That was my original post and now with updates they’ve greatly improved Gamma and certainly recommend now! Ive even paid the one time charge to remove ads no problem! Keep up the great work and look forward to the improvements in the future!

Works great, missing some buttons

This actually works quite well! This emulator runs the games at full speed and has good sound. It lets you push two face buttons at once, and it also has haptic feedback which is helpful because it means I don’t have to look at the buttons when I’m pressing them. The buttons are also positioned so they are easy hit.

If it sounds like I’m maybe I’m overfocusing on the controls, that’s because the recent emu boom in Gamma Store has brought a few emulators that are practically unplayable due to bad controls. This handles it quite well, though.

Now on to the problem. The four back buttons seem to be missing. In portrait mode, there are four buttons ( 1 | 2 | 2 | 1 ) across the top, but none of them press. In landscape mode, only the L1 works, the others don’t. But if you play games that only use the front of the controller this emulator basically does everything right.

Need more controllers skins and scan line options

It works, I tried with a free demo that I found and worked fine, touch controller was responsive, I would like more skins options, options to change filters like scan lines, a refresh option to recognize a game already saved in Gamma folder.

Again Add support to backbone controller

Love Gamma so much and I will be appreciated if you can add support towards Backbone controller. I can’t scroll down or pick the game while using Backbone, I had to to scroll down and pick the games by touching. Also there are plenty of games need a start button (three lines) the Backbone start button similar to PS5 and Xbox controllers. When I click the three lines (start button) it opens the save/load and main menu of this app app. Please support the Backbone controller, there are plenty of games that is hard to use by touch. Thank you.

Best PS1 Emulator out there

Only reason I give it 4 stars is because it has yet to support multiple controllers. So no multiplayer. Other than that, the interface is clean, easy to use, and importing games is a breeze. I go to RetroArch if I need to play multiplayer - that’s the only advantage I think that app has to this one as far as PS1 emulation is concerned. 90% of the games I download have worked no problem. The broken ones are due to the Roms themselves I believe. Great app!

crashes when trying to customize controls

looks promising and downloaded it immediately when I heard this was out - I linked up my dualshock 4 wireless controller via bluetooth, headed to the settings controller type click on customize controls and Gamma crashes. I loaded a game into it it runs fine, I just can't play with my controller. can't set up the controls nor anything. bummer, but hoping this is a current fixable bug

Great to see further emulation support

Very happy to see PS1 making it's way to the ohone. Could be me doing something wrong but when adding games, it seems to add all the bin files and then a main playable file but it wouldn't let me add the cue file. So it's starts but doesn't play the game past the menu. Speaking about Tomb raider specifically with like 50 bin files lol. A select and delete function for these specific situations would be appreciated. But otherwise a great app

Please take off ads!!!

This emulator is great, responsive, no lag, and good performance on games but the only problem are the ads that just pop up after I tap on a game that’s why I rate it 4 stars. I believe it isn’t that difficult to make an emulator without ads so please if delta and PPSSPP can go on without ads so can this app and I believe it can be the best PS1 emulator of all time !!! Thank u :)

Pls update this feature

I would love if Gamma had multiple controller compatibility so I can play local with my friends and lil nephew 😂🔥 I have so many two players games, when I tried to connect both controllers, they both was synced to 1 player and we both was moving the character of choice If y’all can give us multiple controller compatibility that would be awesome

Haven’t heard this name in a while lol

Works perfect! Glad to see you’re still active all these years still. Please bring tutorials for skins and support for chd format please

Very nice!

So far Gamma is looking great!! Hope mora and more games are compatible! Also it would be nice for fun if a Game Shark or an Action Replay cheat software can be implemented as part of the bin/cue files we’re able to add, make them available to execute before the game via app settings, and then we can select, or even add codes to run in the games before starting it!! But so far, this app is great!!

Convenience

I’ve been into emulation a long time, this application doesn’t do anything different than any other PSX emulator, if anything it probably does less.. but that is where Gamma shines, everything is already done for you, there’s no tweaking settings, no figuring out anything. For 5$ you could turn off the ads and make the experience much more enjoyable. Sure, other apps may not have ads at all so why pay for this one. Well, When it comes to Gamma it’s all about ease of use and getting straight to the game you want without any headache, and I believe that is well worth the 5$ price.

i like it!

it crashes sometimes after i save a save state but i figured out that if i resume game by pressing my playstation button on my controller, it doesn’t crash (idk why but that’s ok) also i bought the lifetime this app member thing! :) just one request would be that, in the save/load state menu, may you please make it so that we can select many states at once to delete? it has been a hassle to delete them one by one when the save states started piling up on me (i’m playing RE1…) love you guys and thanks for making Gamma :)

Ps1 games i only can only play on Gamma

PS1 games I can only play on this app because I don’t own a PS1. Gamma has been good to me a little bit last weekend. I had to delete Gamma because it froze and silent hill freezes when I try to save the game so can you please update Gamma to PS4 Revolution or so just enough to get it not freeze on me I enjoy the PS1 games thank you for Gamma on iPhone health inspector was to expect this site for example if there was such thing as a video game of inspector they would report the bugs and I have report bugs in before and I hope all I want is the game s to run better

It has finally happened…

For 27 years the joy of playing a particular PlayStation one title has haunted me…for 27 years I’ve thought about this game, and how I enjoyed playing it. From the storytelling to the fighting mechanics this game had it all. Xenogrears is the game and I thought this was way better than Final Fantasy VII. after losing the original disc copy I thought I’d never be able to play this game…until now. I want to thank the company responsible for this. The heart of an old school gamer has been given a second wind. Thank you!!!

Really Enjoying The App WORTH THE 5$

I just gotta thanks for creating this emulator through a app. As someone’s who’s always been a console gamer…to go back, and play the old games I fell in love with means a lot to me. I spent 100’s of hours then gaming, and plan to spend 100’s of hours gaming now through Gamma. 20 years ago I would have never have thought it possible to play PlayStation 1 on a device I can hold in the palm of my hand. I was curious about the Hi Resolution graphics of the emulator compared to original hardware. (My PS1 lid tray I unfortunately found out was busted so I used the PS2). (I compared FF7)The comparison blew my mind there was a significant increase in resolution, and lighting through the emulator. Minor graphical details I easily missed on original hardware could now be seen more clearly. For this app I airstream my phone to my smart TV, and play with Bluetooth PlayStation 5 controller. Really hope this team gets the support it deserves, and looking forward towards future emulators. So the question…is this worth a one time 5 dollars purchase for ad free experience? Absolutely, if you plan on using Gamma regularly the 5 dollars for uninterrupted gaming is more than reasonable. Gamma runs great, nice hi resolution graphics, and controller support.

Gamma is the greatest app out!!!

At first, when I downloaded this app, it wasn’t working properly. After a few updates, I am completely blown by how impressive Gamma has become. One of the things that kept me from really using it at first was every time I tried to connect my Backbone one to use as a controller, Gamma would crash. That problem has been resolved, and now this has to be one of the best apps that exist on the Apple marketplace. To be able to relive my childhood classics from the PlayStation era is one of the greatest things ever.

Gamma has come a long way

If you've read old reviews on the internet about this app, ignore them and try it for yourself. I'm using an iPhone 14 and it works exactly as it should. I use retroarch on other devices and it's good too but not very user friendly and generally requires a fair amount of configuring before you can comfortably play anything. this app is optimized for Apple devices so you don't need to do anything but add your roms. Even the cheats are already built in. It's super simple and easy to use and I highly recommend it. Hopefully we get more emu's added down the road.

Amazing

I ended up getting the “pro” version to help support and get rid of ads. I truly love how responsive this emulator is and how easy it is to remap buttons on the mobile game controller.

I do think it could use a feature to disable the memory card on certain games though. I’ve been using the emulator to practice speed runs on certain games and it would be closer to a console if that was an option. Other than that though it feels almost identical to playing on a console with how responsive it is.

Great iOS option for ps1 emulation!

this app is hands down a game-changer for PS1 emulation on iOS! As someone who has been waiting for a reliable way to play my favorite childhood PS1 games on iOS, this app absolutely delivers. The nostalgia hits hard and it runs flawlessly. The games load quickly, and the controls are smooth and responsive. I use Backbone controller and it’s great. I’ve yet to encounter any major bugs or lag, which is impressive for something that used to be so difficult to achieve on iOS. If you’re a retro gaming fan, you’ll love the performance, and the ability to relive those classic titles from the palm of your hand. Big shoutout to the devs for making this experience possible. Highly recommend supporting them to keep this amazing app growing and improving!

THIS IS SO AWESOME

So in all honesty, I was only trying to play one game. I couldn’t find it (the game)anywhere and I couldn’t find a console to play it for a reasonable price being said, my friend told me about emulation I started looking into it a little more and I found this and within the 30minutes of getting this app downloaded. I already had 20 games on my mind to download. If you’re new to this (like i was)look up a couple of videos. I swear it’s easier than you think.
Thanks this app for making such an easy app to use.

Gamma Emulator - The Best PS1 Emulator You Can Get

I have been using this app for a few months now and Gamma has quickly become the top used app on my iPhone/iPad! I typically refrain from writing reviews but I decided to make a special exception for Gamma and the developer. Everything, in my opinion, about Gamma runs great. The UI is clean and easy to use, the games run great, everything is very responsive with the controls, and Gamma is even coming out with more improvements to make the experience even better (the ability to play other media while simultaneously playing a game and having the ability to adjust the game audio to a level of your preference is such a top tier addition to Gamma)! The developer is also very responsive and clearly shows a desire to make the best application possible. I decided to use the application’s in-app bug report feature and the developer not only responded within hours but had the bug fixed in less than 24 hours. While I was prepared to either not hear back at all or hear back after a bit of time (I do not typically report bugs with the apps I use) I absolutely did not expect such a quick, genuine, and high quality response from the developer in such a short amount of time. In my opinion, for the quality you get with Gamma, the price for the pro features is well worth it to support Gamma and developer!

Love this app!

The couple second ads don’t bother me when I get to take a trip down memory lane and play classic games on my phone like Yugioh: Forbidden Memories, and Rugrats: The Search for Reptar!

Not only is the picture great, but the functionality works wonderful! I have maybe had one time where the save menu glitched on me, but no program is perfect. I’m not going to ding it on this review because the performance overshadows that one incident.

Keep up the great work! Would be excellent if we could one day have PS2 access as well!! 🫶🏻

THE APP IS AWESOME

With version 1.3.2 rolling out, this app is awesome. My problem that I first had with this app was the audio having a cracking or popping sound on certain moments with certain games. Other than that Gamma is perfect now. No problems at all.

Finally!

Love the emulator. Now I can play all the games I never had a chance to play when I was a kid! The ads only appear when you first start a game, but you can swap back and forth between apps and not have another ad pop up for a good long while, so long as you don’t accidentally close it. Excellent emulator. Sometimes the layout makes it hard to play games that utilize the L1/L2 and R1/R2 buttons. Have not tried with the backbone controller yet, but I hope it’s works when I finally get one.

PS1 Only Better!!!

Takes a little bit of finagling to get set up, but once you do, you will be rocking and rolling in no time and having a blast!!!! at first games were pixelated, terribly so.. but after the first update which fixed the pixelization and upscaled the resolution, and then the second update that fix the memory, if you were a person that liked PS1 back in the 90s, you absolutely should have this on your phone!!! With the ability to hook your phone to your TV as well as your favorite Bluetooth controller, you have PlayStation anytime you go to your buddies house and some split screen in Gran Turismo? Tony Hawk maybe?? Thank you so much to the Devs!!! Maybe you could add a cheap variation that you pay for that does not have ads? Just a thought.. Either way this thing is great!!!

Works (almost) perfectly!

Pretty much downloaded it, chugged Spyro and Crash into it and they worked perfectly with the touch controls! However if I try using a DualSense controller connected to my iPhone then Gamma crashes.

I LOVE seeing more emulators starting to pop into Gamma Store. Thanks for letting me play while on the go!

Letter to team

Thank you for bringing ps emulation to IOS however there are currently some issues that need fixed in particular that could really help the overall experience. Controllers keep crashing a lot when using Gamma . No CHD supports the file size is extremely high compared to it and we can save a lot of memory for users by switching to it. Needs some upscale options. And many users are reporting game freezing. I hope my overall feedback was helpful in anyway and thank you for the application.

Dvelopers ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Really good thank you for Gamma, please if there’s a way we could remove Ads maybe through an external website or using an app purchases I don’t know. Or you could switch it to a donation base system, you may need to change course though or add alternate course for better performance or more options like resolution and frame rate, and you know using enhancements or hacks. But definitely giving us some options with different core, or at least fixing certain core issues I don’t know if it’s your core or someone else’s open source, but there are some issues with artifacts and such but other than that it’s really good. Thank u!

It’s a new app, I’m going to have patience

Gamma obviously will have some things it needs to iron out. This is a new market on IOS and I don’t expect it to be perfect right away.

Features I hope to see soon:

•Better controller support for PlayStation, Xbox and third party Bluetooth controllers

•PS2 support if possible

•I haven’t tried it yet, and I’m sure it will work fine, but stable HDMI output support is very important. Unlike Delta where I’m expecting to play gameboy games in my hand, I expect to play the PS1 on TV. Making sure it runs smoothly over Apples HDMI adapter with minimal lag is going to be a big feature for me and I’m sure other retro game enthusiasts.

•Stable local multiplayer with controller support

•a dedicated “report bug or issue” button in the apps setting menu

I believe in these projects and don’t think they deserve an immediate bad review. Give them a chance. I will be trying to send any issues I have directly to the devs instead of review bombing a project in its baby stages.

Good luck guys and thanks for your hard work! This is awesome to bring these old games back on a common and easy to use platform, preserving them for the future.

ØPPÉÑĦÈÎMẼŘ

It is the best PS1 emulator but please add these points:
1-Add effects when pressing buttons
2- Change or add 3 or more controllers
3- There is a small black frame when you are playing a game, which is annoying when playing
I hope the developer implements this command. You can contact me via Discord. My identity is: moham360 so that I can advise you and suggest very good things for you to develop all your applications, and I will be the first to support you. Good luck and success 💖

Optimize space

Optimize space, acceleration needs to be optimized, and UI needs to be more optimized.

Nice ps1 Emulator for iphone

I very satisfied with this emulator but i will be waiting for someone to make eh ps2 emulator for iphone i really wanna play Simpson hit and run

Official ps1 emulator

Been playing FF7 with this for the last hour or so, no issues so far

This emulator works perfectly fine.

Everyone complaining is just annoying. I haven’t had one problem with Gamma. Works perfectly fine.

New update was great but… (Edited)

Edit: As I’m writing this, I just got the update that added a memory card fix and HD textures. Instant upgrade from 4 stars to 5 stars!

The most recent update fixed all of the audio issues, at least on the games I played, but now my games won’t save unless I use a “save state”. Every time I reload a game or quit Gamma , I always have to reformat the memory card, and my in-game saves are wiped so I’ve lost a ton of progress on my games. A memory card fix would be much appreciated so I don’t have to rely on save states

Great emulator, no longer supports PBP files?

Really great PS1 emulator, works well and has a user-friendly interface similar to Delta. Glad that the premium option to remove ads was added - instant buy.

Encountered an issue though - earlier versions supported files in eboot (.PBP) format. After a recent update, this app no longer allows me to select .PBP files in the add (+) feature, though PBP files I already added still work fine. Not sure if the dev will see this, but I’d appreciate it if that was re-enabled.

Crashes/Doesn’t work with Backbone

Someone tried to get in on the “Emulators on IOS” bandwagon and didn’t take time to do a good job. Tough to even find files to run on Gamma also crashes every time with backbone controller. Had high hopes. Hopefully fix is in the works. Change my review then. It was working with BackBone and they updated it and it crashes again when you touch a button. Back to 1 Star.

“EDIT” All issues seem fixed. 5 Stars! Well done.

Works Great!

I’m especially grateful for the automatic downloads for cover art, and the high resolution settings! My only wish is that I could pay money to you and maybe have the ads stop if I do haha. Would not mind donating a good chunk of change for all of your hard work my friend!

Best emulator for psx for ios

Since first seeing this emulator I thought it was a scam due ro another supposedly “emulator” called ePSx. The supposed “emulator” was actually just a gamepad and a complete scam and waste of money. When I then downloaded this emulator I was astonished by the quality and the functionality of it. Its the best PSX emulator that I’ve ever tried!

Great

Runs everything flawlessly the format is almost exactly like delta

Pleased!

Works Great! Took a minute to find the right rom format that it works with it, doesn’t seem like it works with the “default” but a couple google searches and found the right one and it worked perfect

Nice!!

Tip long press Gamma on your phone and your games will pop up. Skips adds 😁I want to say. U guys have came along nicely. Also can we have wide screen support. Plus cheats. That would be amazing. Once again thank u guys.

Finally, Crash Bandicoot in my pocket

Very good emulator, writing this just after the controller support update and it’s been a blast playing my childhood games on mobile. Easy 5 Star

Gamma app

Absolutely love Gamma! I wouldn’t mind paying to get an ad free one cause I absolutely hate the ads but other then that it’s been great to play my favorite classic games 😄

Amazing

I mean it's exactly what its supposed to be. Need I say more? Runs amazing on my iPhone 14+
With Provenance releasing soon for PSP games and more, this completes everything Ive been wanting! Thank you this app!

Audio Issues

So far this emulator is really coming together, however there is an audio issue when using earbuds or headphones where voice overs/dialogue in-game is restricted to only the right ear, no matter if the dialogue audio is in MONO or if the voice comes from the left of the screen, it will always come out the right side, I even tried different earbuds and headphones and this is still an issue. Besides that, excellent work with rolling out not only quality updates, but in rapid succession!

Unlocking Potential

Finally I have a chance to play my PS library on mobile. This is absolutely awesome! Yes it took a while to set up but if you just search “How to set up this app emulator” you’ll find an article explaining exactly how to do so. Works for me perfectly. Thank you devs!
