I had anticipated writing a positive review about the recent iOS port of the game. However, my experience has been less than satisfactory. It appears, from a developer’s perspective, that the game was hastily released to coincide with the launch of the iPhone 15 Pro, compromising its quality.
During my initial attempts to download the game, ResidentEvil4 crashed 15 times, and an additional 7 times during the complete download process. This frequency of interruptions is concerning and detracts significantly from the user experience.
The visual quality of the game is noticeably inferior. I understand the need for some graphical downscaling, especially in light of the recent feedback on RE:Village. However, the current state of the visuals is reminiscent of an RE4 port on the Wii, which is disappointing.
On a more positive note, while there are occasional frame rate drops, the performance is predominantly stable. This aspect leads me to believe that the development team opted for this approach to maintain some level of performance stability.
In light of these issues, I strongly urge the release of immediate patches to enhance the game’s quality and ensure stability, particularly during the download process post-purchase. As a consumer, I expected a more polished and tested product in the final build prior to its release.
I look forward to seeing these improvements and am hopeful for the game’s potential once these concerns are addressed.

Game actually runs, but I’m severely disappointed that the most basic types of graphics settings can’t be adjusted at all. I want to have the control to toggle graphics options so I can optimize the game to my liking. Input lag is very bad for Xbox One/Series X controllers, with a noticeable delay after every button press. There are bugs in which the player can fall into the ground, especially during Ada’s sections in the Krauser section. More patches and optimization fixes to this game need to happen especially for iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max, and I hope this port continues to be supported as it should be impossible but with RE Engine magic it’s actually possible. (Will come back to edit this review when these issues are addressed) Device: iPhone 15 Pro

I fought with this game for about 6 hours before giving up... Game is huge file which okay fine so i had to remove some stuff off my device annoying but whatever. Then had to fight to get it to install because it kept canclling and stopping ( yes i was on stable wifi service and had decent speed) then have to go in and set up iCloud which ive NEVER needed before so had to set all that up for the first time. then had to adjust a bunch of my setting before i could even OPEN the game. After all that i learn i went through hours of fighting just to have access to a fraction of the game at which point players are forced to pay to keep playing.....Too much drama and fighting for a game ill only play once.
The "controls" seemed impossible- its all the buttons from a playstation controller crammed on to the screen- yes you can move the buttons around but its still very crowded and if you have bigger hands like most guys do youll be hitting buttons you didnt mean to.

Seems like it would be a fun game to play but unfortunately on my Mac Studio M1 Ultra Pro XDR display it just won't run for more than a few minutes before it crashes not just ResidentEvil4 but the whole Mac. A game crash is bad enough, but this causes the Mac to immediately shut down and reboot. [Crash Log: Wrong frame size for ARMv8. Got 840 bytes, expected 828
Exception class=0x2f (SError interrupt), IL=1, iss=0]. After a dozen attempts to play through the first scenes I'm giving up.

I’ve been waiting a long time to get my upgrade specifically to play my favorite game on the gonna my backbone. But it tells me that it has to do the initial download for the game and the bar would get close and other times a little past the half way point. Then all of a sudden I would get an error message that the game needs to close. I’ve deleted and redownloaded ResidentEvil4 about 4 different times. An same result each time. Please get a patch for this quick.

The game was running perfectly all Chapter 1 on my M1 Max 64gb Macbook Pro.
However, I am at the bridge part in chapter 2 and the game repeatedly and consistently crashes — my screen freezes on whatever frame I'm in; I can still hear and control, manipulate the game (I can tell through sound the game still keeps on going and responds to my gunshots and such) but the screen remains completely frozen.
I paid for this and have found no information on the internet as to how to fix it, please get back to me.

Was an awful 15 minutes of gameplay. This game has poor optimization for touch controller feedback. 0/10 on that. As for Game optimizations they were clearly scaled back as well clear evidence of visual artifacts, and poorly rendered environment’s textures is what drags this game even downwards further to where seeing key details in the distance is simply lost in the due to rendering processes making you have to be closer to dangerous situations as well. I Would not recommend this game until the above situations are resolved.

Previews in the store contain one image that I feel reflect actual in-game quality of the visuals, frame sync feels rather delayed at 1.0 release and using a Bluetooth controller adds significant input latency.
Currently downloading of iCloud save data not possible as Mac version fails to upload to iCloud with no description apart from checking my connection, which is active and working.
When using a controller after a few minutes the game will crash in my experience. Was not able to make it through the first cabin due to this.
by OGSkullkid
It drastically needs better touch screen controls. Its running on device there’s no reason for input lag to exist except if this game continues to have the same type of controls it has. I understand being able to connect a controller however I don’t want to do that as screen controls are better and more intuitive. This games controls however are terrible. Ruins the entire experience and tbh if I have to connect a controller it’s no different from the console versions I already own it on. Do better.

I expected way more from Capcom and Apple, but I was disappointed to see how bad the game runs on the latest and greatest hardware from apple, the game feels like it runs on emulator or something unofficial, it caused insane heat on my phone and the performance was so bad that I didn’t even finish the free demo!
Without mentioning The controls they didn’t even try!
This game is a No for me on iPhone you should play it on playstation or pc to enjoy this great game.

Incredible that this thing runs on mobile devices. Just like RE VIII. However, two huge problems for me. 1) $30? Half off? On mobile? Even RE VIII launched at like $14. 2) his hair is distractingly bad. Just a graphical mess. And considering it’s always in the frame, that’s one thing you don’t want looming terrible. There’s got to be a better way to render Leon’s hair.
Thank you can try before you buy.

3 stars for now, which is a shame. The game itself? Fantastic. It’s everything I loved about the original and more, and I’m having a blast. But, running on a 15 Pro, sometimes the game just… force quits. And before you ask, no, I don’t have any other apps running. I do everything I can to make sure my iPhone is focusing on Resident Evil 4 and nothing else. And yet, crucially, it only seems to quit on me in the middle of boss fights, or after long stretches of hard fights. My solution? Give me more graphics controls. I’m actually really easy to please; my vision isn’t that great and I’m not on a big screen, I’d be perfectly happy reducing quality a little to ensure smooth uninterrupted gameplay. If this keeps happening I’m not going to be able to attempt a Pro S+ run because the game will crash between save points. So disappointing.

There is fierce competition in the world of processors from other large companies, and when Apple announced that the A17 pro could play resident evil 4, I was pumped. However, when it came out and I started to play it, I was less concerned about the fact that it was 720p (which makes sense and didn’t anger me at all) to the fact that the controls for the game were absolutely atrocious. The game also looks terrible, feeling more like the old resident evil than the new one. The only reason I give it three stars and not two or one is because it is at least a little playable, and doesn’t feel like a hot mess half of the time. Shame, Apple. This could have been so much better.

They really did a great job on a technical level with the port. Seriously, A . I should have researched what this game was about before I bought it. I really made a mistake buying this. This is NOT like RE2, or even RE8. This is a tedious, hateful, slog of an action game, where your true enemy is the very game itself (to be clear I believe the enemies should be the enemies, not the game itself lol). I just can't do it. I would advise you make sure you know what you're getting into before you buy this.
by Kilmore20
I think graphics settings should be added just like they had in RE8, I feel the metal fx is a little aggressive and the image comes outs a little too soft and too low res textures, maybe give an update for the tiniest bit of quality boost, but having settings would also future proof the game for later devices, like iPhone 16 or 17, and m3 iPad Pro. RE8 is guna look better as more powerful devices can run more settings, so why lock RE4 down and trap it. Also turn HDR off, I noticed even on PC version last year it’s broken, everything comes off too bright and washed, go SDR, and slide the brightness up a little past the middle, it gives those inky black night scenes and cave scenes, with hdr turned in the opening scene in the forest looked bright and brown, but with it turned off it looked just like it did in the gameplay reveal, dark Black Forest with rays of white moonlight bleeding through the trees

I’ve purchased and played both Resident Evil Village and Resident Evil 4 on my iPhone 15 Pro Max. This is after I also purchased and played them on my PS5.
The Village port had better graphics and seemed smoother than Resi 4. Village has many more visual/graphics customization options than 4. 4 still runs pretty well for a next-gen game on a smart phone, period. More intricate, graphic details are where the rough edges start to appear (especially hair).
I’ve played Village with a Backbone controller, and Resi 4 with a PS5’s dualsense. Both options work very well; however, the touch controls are VERY difficult to use, and they cause you to lose most of the screen and visibility in an often times, fast paced game. The biggest downside being that if I want to play Resident Evil on my phone I can’t just pull out my phone and play, I definitely need a controller.
All of this being said, I have still thoroughly enjoyed these two Capcom console ports and think they run amazing, drain less battery than expected, and do not horribly overheat my phone. If Capcom released the 2 and 3 remakes and Resident Evil 7 Biohazard on iOS, I would buy them as well.
I look forward to further utilizing the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s gaming capabilities once AC Mirage and Death Stranding release on it as well.

First and foremost, I paid $30 for this game. At that price point, absolutely this is top notch. At $60 however, I would not have purchased as on a small screen that's just tough to stomach. Producers need to bite the bullet and find a meet in middle price of say $45 in my opinion.
It's impressive that a phone can run the game natively albeit at 720p but it still looks very good overall. Frame drop does occur but so far it's not been a tremendous issue nor long lasting when it occurs. Overall I'm happy with the purchase as this is a massive game that will provide many hours of entertainment.

I really liked this game, though there was a bug. However, I found a workaround by not opening my map or inventory until after the tutorial prompt appears. Once that prompt clears, it seems to work fine, and I can play without any issues. I noticed there was an update recently which may have resolved the problem, but I haven't verified it yet. Regardless, the workaround worked for me, and I enjoyed every minute of this game, I am even playing a second time.
Previous Review:
The game made a good first impression, so I bought it. However, I discovered a bug which might have deterred me from the purchase if I had checked my inventory before buying. For some reason, the game crashes whenever I try to view the map or inventory. I can play the game fine, but it crashes every time I look at those screens.
by ArtSloth254
I love resident evil so I have no problems with the game itself, however, everytime I reach a certain spot in the beginning of chapter 2, my computer blue-screens when I'm in full screen or just freezes when I'm not. I end up having to restart my computer everytime. I thought it might've been my save but it happens even when i restart the game. Other than that, the game ran smoothly and was quite amazing.
by Jhostry
The game's performance is noteworthy, but it's quite surprising that it requires reverting back to the R8's quality settings, as its current quality falls short. Additionally, the audio quality feels strained and excessively loud, which diminishes the overall experience of mastering the sounds.
by Scrt_Ag3nt_007
I’m going to assume that I’m the only one with this issue since I can’t find anyone else saying that they have the same problem. My issue is that in order to use this game with sound I have to use an external Bluetooth speaker or headset this is very frustrating. I’ve even tried factory resetting my iPad Pro M2 to no avail. Please fix this issue it’s very annoying.
by Chaosknightzero
Excellent port! However 2 main issues. The first being the black screen outside of the display does not register touch inputs, which is a huge issue on IPad. Second the touch buttons currently register swiping movement when being held (I.e when holding the aim button my aim moves off where I’m trying to aim because the finger holding aim moved ever so slightly)

Wonderful game but has a terrible glitch that doesn't let me proceed on professional mode. SPOILERS AHEAD
The glitch always happens when del lago stops pulling boat and submerges, Leon says are you trying to swallow me whole. Then I cannot draw or fire harpoons and he just sits there however I can pan around. Controls reactivate once dellago starts biting boat where I hold button for Leon to stab inside its mouth to make him let go boat, losing 1/3 boat hp. Then sequence restarts and I can fire off harpoons like normal. This happens every time this sequence triggers and after 3rd time he eats me with boat. happens with both keyboard and controllers and has hapened on multiple playthroughs but take too much damage on professional mode to be able to proceed. Please advise for work around or fix glitch

It is literally so insane that they got this to work on the 15 Pro Max. Without chromatic aberration turned on the game runs pretty smooth and sure there’s some hiccups but that does not happen at all throughout your entire gameplay experience and even if it does it’s not that bad. This is literally the best because as a resident evil fan of course I always have my phone on me and I can set it down and bring my PS5 controller anywhere and play where ever I want literally and the audio from the phones speakers sound really good like really good as well I hope to see more console ports like this. Overall an amazing game to play if you don’t own a console and wanna play the game if you have a 15 Pro Max.

Whether playing on Mac (M2 Pro), iPhone (A17 Pro), or iPad (M1) the same runs smoothly. There are graphical differences between all three, but each one has a different chip yet still run and play beautfully. Also being able to upload progress and download on another device makes stopping on one device and picking it up on another seemless.
Controler input and compatibily works great, but my favorite concept they included was to be able to just the labels for the buttons used in game, such as showing either xbox controller layout rather then playstation. Adjusting which buttons need to show ingame is a quick switch and makes it less confusing for people who also play mercenaries and aren't familiar with the game controls.

I beat the RE4 remake on HARDCORE MODE my first run through for playstation 5 when it first came out. I'm playing on HARDCORE mode right now for the IOS port my first run through. This game runs well. I use a backbone one remote and there is no input delay. I am on the iPhone 15 pro. I just wish there wasn't as much as an input delay when mirroring your iphones display to a TV using apples usbC to HDMI adapter and using a playstation remote for example to control the game. runs smooth with HDR enabled. Also, who cares about the downgraded graphics and view distance, textures, etc, the fact this is on a phone is amazing. People weren't complaining when the original resident evil 4 came out and those graphics were like nintendo models, lol.
Chapter 7 experiences many lag spikes, please optimize, had to turn off HDR. Still has lag spikes, messes you up from time to time, but it's playable.

Resident Evil 4 offers a compelling and enticing story that is very entertaining and is fun to play. I would highly recommend buying this game if you are a fan of the survival horror genre. This is a massive upgrade from the original RE4, giving not only better graphics but a better story in general. Some segments and sequences have been significantly changed from the OG RE4 that makes the game more enjoyable to play. An instance of this is the minecart section. In the original you'd be by yourself and have to defend yourself from enemies that jump into the minecart that you are in. In the remake you get a partner to be with during that section and it has a lot more action implemented into it. I really, really do recommend you buy this game if you haven't already. The DLC for the remake is also awesome. I haven't played it yet but I've watched some videos about it and it also is awesome.

First let me say if the game is not loading after downloading the content and stocks on black screen, you need to delete it and install it again(had the same issue ). Im really happy to see the console games are coming on iPhone and every thing about the game is really awesome even the keypad can be customized and you get used to it very soon after playing a while also you can use a controller if you want. Please guys buy the game and support it, playing console games on iPhone is like a dream came true . The quality and graphic is great, really good even in battles. (Playing on iPhone 15 pro max)

It’s amazing. I played it on my iPad and my iPhone, and it was fun the entire way through, and it never struck me how I was playing it on an iPad or on an iPhone. You would need an external controller like a PS five or Xbox or a Backbone if you’re playing on iPhone to really get the full experience out of it but once you have that easily, the most fun and biggest game on an iPhone that doesn’t have the word impact in it. I feel like the resolution being capped at 7:20 P without being able to change it, and the same thing with the 30 FPS is a bit dumb like there’s not even a performance or quality mode but after extended play sessions, you kinda get used to it. I would say better than the Resident Evil Village iOS launch with less frame drops, of course having to do with it running at 30 FPS instead of 60 but nonetheless it is freaking impressive and great and I love this game.

I play several different types of games. However this game has been my favorite game to date. Hands down the best yet! Amazing game and worth every dollar in my opinion. I wish there was another one to get honestly. Likely going to play it all over again. It’s super long so don’t get caught up on the cost. Even the extras are worth the money. Simply the best IOS game to date. Just my opinion. Love it and want more like it. I’ll pay 60 all day for games like this. If you love this one the RE Village is also great. Like I said, I’m ready for the next one. 😂

Firstly, thanks apple and RE4 R developers for putting RE on apple devices! I bought this game on day 1 (a few days ago) for my 12.9 IPad Pro (bought RE Village day one as well) and its more than amazing! I have not had any problems with the game through my whole play-through other than 3 very minor pop-ins which is understandable, never had downloading issues like others are commenting nor have i had any overheating even when playing while charging. I see other reviewers discussing controls and it literally says the best way and recommended way to play is by using a controller!! I haven’t experienced any latency in the controller or lip sync either. The only things that were minor inconveniences were the black borders and the lack of graphical customization that RE:Village had but nonetheless I’m just grateful to play RE anywhere I go whether at home in my bed not having to sit up in front of my TV or in my truck. I have not played it yet on my iPhone and I probably won’t but my friend has on his IPhone and he’s on his second play-though with no issues using a controller so maybe other people’s WiFi is the problem idk, but again thank you to apple and RE devs for going all out and flexing them M chip for the fans, Farewell Strangas!

Resident Evil 4 is an absolutely amazing game and looks stunning on Mac. As a game masterpiece that takes up 66GB of storage space, I think it is necessary to support storage devices outside the system disk. However, I found that when I expected to store it to an external storage device or even a different partition on the built-in flash on Mac, I could not complete or restore an in-app purchase. This makes it almost impossible for me to play most of the content in the game. I haven't encountered this before with any other app downloaded from the Mac App Store (including Resident Evil: Village). On other gaming platforms, allowing games to be saved to external hard drives is already an implicit and default support option. I hope this is just a bug and can be fixed soon.
by Danghoa1
I have played this game on a Windows machine, but I purchased this again on a Mac thinking that it would be very well optimized for the M1 Max chip.
I was not wrong. The game really blew me away. It ran very smoothly at nearly 90FPS at 4k resolution. No bug was countered. It feels even better than my playthrough on the Windows machine. Plus, it does all that without even turning on the fan!
Overall, fantastic job on the Mac port!
by Lajawa Tubbs
It may not be the full frame rate and graphics that a dedicated machine can produce but for actually having console quality story telling and action gameplay in your pocket its really great. You need an external controller to play effectively but with that its an excellent game! I used low power mode to not kill my battery and while the frame rate would drop at times it ran well and made a huge effect on battery loss. Honestly I never played the Resident evil franchise before and man this has to be a good one to start with!
by Milosh53
I played this on a basic M1 MacBook Pro with 8GB of RAM and it was a surprisingly good experience. I used an Xbox One controller over bluetooth, and sometimes played on the built in screen, and sometimes connected to an external display. The performance was good (only the occasional slowdown) and the visuals were good, i'm sure It can look way nicer on a more powerful Pro or Max processor. But overall I am very impressed with this remake, and even more impressed it runs so well on a basic entry level M1.
by Cat Cutie 18
I have been playing this on my iPhone (with a controller) and my Mac Mini. Its so great to have an acutal console game come to Apple. I have been enjoying the game and its been tons of fun. If I have anything bad to say is that touch controls are a no go. If you are playing from your phone, get a phone controller. I will be looking forward to what else Capcom ports over to Apple.....Street Fighter 6 maybe....fingers crossed.
by Sgh1377
This is a AAA console game running on an iPhone, people need to adjust their expectation when playing it, it definitely needed cutbacks to be able to run (FPS, graphics), but for the people seeking the convenience and cool factor of a console game in their pocket it's perfect. I hope they don't stop making AAA ports.
by R2ick
Started on my iPad Pro and it worked great, saved and downloaded using iCloud and it worked great.
Problem: Can't get the Mac Version to Save back to iCloud to continue playing on my iPad. Fix that and I'll give it 5 stars!
FIXED!!!
by Ben10sucks
Played and just beat the game on my m1 max (32gb ram) macbook pro and it was great. Used the nintendo switch pro controller my entire playthrough and it worked perfectly fine too. Really hope more big games like this come to mac and apple takes gaming more seriously.
by Ipod-ophile
This game is incredible, but the mac app store was not made for apps this big. Do not download if u dont have a reliable high speed wifi. You may lose connection and upon retrying it, you may get a warning that you don't have a disk size big enough even if you do. This is because the partial download is still in the Cache files and needs to be cleared out before reattempting it. Again the store has file integrity checksums that werent made for something this big, and downloading may be sllow going, with any interruption ruinining the entire thing. So find reliable high speed wifi, start the download, leave your computer on, and leave to go do something else. When you return you'll have quite possibly the best third person action game in history
by Lucian8082
Games amazing and on par with steam deck and the rog ally on my 15 pro. But no matter what I have no sound all it says under audio is tv and headphones I thought this games audio came out the iPhone speakers. I know you guys can’t directly respond but please if you could leave me a comment in the review about it I greatly appreciate you. I just don’t know how to make it work. Thanks
by TheBrokefoot
The games runs really well with obvious resolution optimizations to help it run on a pocketable device. If you use an external controller, it plays just as well as any console. Please be realistic with expectations here, and let’s celebrate that we now have access to console quality games on a device we keep on us 24/7. It is truly incredible.
by Santozzz
This game is flawless I just beat the game while I was screen recording and let me tell you it was perfect my only issue is when it gets hectic with a lot of action around it gets a little blurry on the edges but other than that 9/10 🤙
