The idea is really cute but when I can only interact with it by tapping a UI element smaller than a grain of rice - on another UI element that my phone uses for navigation - what’s even the point? I can only actually activate it maybe one out of four or five attempts. Why is there no larger UI section in the app to “play” with it? I have to squint to watch it do anything like eat food or play with a ball, which is actually all it can do lol. I don’t have dynamic island yet, maybe that will totally revolutionize it, but for now I’m feeling disappointed. And why can’t the widgets be larger?
Further, $15 annually for the ability to change the pets is ridiculous. They don’t do anything other than just hang out. I’d pay maybe $15 lifetime if this was an actual digital pet of some kind, but it’s not. $50 lifetime, are you actually joking? I really loved Apollo and wanted to support this but wow, it’s not even half-baked. This is a proof-of-concept that wants more money than any app I’ve ever used for doing the bare minimum. Christian, you can do better than this.

This almost feels like something that should be free. The price is a bit overboard for something that you can experience within 1 minute. There’s not much to do with your Pixel Pal. He doesn’t grow or do anything. You can’t randomize the animations so you need to manually set them each time. The pixel pal app doesn’t seem to connect to my pixel pal in Apollo. So now I have two separate Pixel Pals? I’d expect the Pals to maybe react to things on your phone. Like, when you get a notification why can’t your pixel pal be the one to notify you? I see so many missed opportunities and at a $9.99 a month more features should be there. Cool idea. Feels like a quick cash grab. Would be great if it actually had more function than watching a sprite animate for $9.99 a month. What a joke.
Not to mention I encounter numerous bugs within 5 minutes of using the app. It’s kinda garbage.

Update:
I have to update my review. This most recent version is incredibly buggy and stops working at random. I have an iPhone 14 pro max and the latest version of iOS. I cannot recommend that anyone purchase a subscription to this app under the current circumstances.
So far it’s pretty cool to have these little guys hanging out in the dynamic island. That said, this isn’t a one-time charge, the developer has chosen to make this a reoccurring subscription. That’s perfectly fine, but with that comes the added expectation that this will be constantly updated with new features and cool options. If that happens then great, otherwise this will be a disappointing purchase.
Stop Ridiculous Charges.
