Such potential ruined

This game has so much potential! When i first played it i fell in love! Such a great concept and the execution was great. Until i played it a bit more and realized the ads were out of control. I understand they need to pay the bills. Why is there no paid version without ads? This game would easily be worth $5(maybe more if some more work was put into it). However as it is now i would not recommend this game. Around every 10 tiles placed(less when you get further into it) you will get an ad. Even when you skip a reward they will play an ad. And if you think, we’ll I’ll just take the upgrades then. Problem then occurs where you get more stars quickly which causes more ads to occur. After 40stars you get a “choice” to watch an ad for a bonus, the bonus makes you get more stars per tile, basically causing the ads to be more frequent. It’s mind blowing oversight in the design. These ads Will auto open LandBuilder Store. They also will lag the game frequently. I just don’t get it. This game breaks my heart. The ads are just for other garbage games too, are they even making money off this game? Sad.

Wait a minute…

Isn’t this familiar? Isn’t this Dorfromantic? You know, the game where you build a world with field, forest, grass, and water? This game puts some new mechanics, but I have a hard time believing that this is an original idea. You couldn’t make the tiles any other shape? You could have made them puzzle pieces, squares, triangles, pentagons, hexadeccagons even!
Ads, purchases, and even an uninteresting character that teaches you the game and has no personality set this game apart from Dorfromantic. If I wanted to play Dorfromantic I would get my laptop and play it. I’m not saying either game was boring, that’s why this is a 2 star review and not one. It’s still fun. Dorfromantic, unfortunately, is a steam game. Until it comes to mobile, everyone who only has a phone has to wait.
Well this game is a ripoff, it’s undeniably hard to stop playing due to the nature of the game. I do wish there was a mode that goes until you run out of tiles, though. Some features that are in this game I wish were in the not ripoff counterpart, like landmarks and bigger buildings. Good job for making the game but not coming up with the idea because you didn’t.

Could be a 5 star game, but needs a lot of work!

I love the simple gameplay and the design of this game but there are several flaws that make me want to stop playing.
First of all, after a couple of rounds of playing I finally figured out I shouldn’t place tiles where I wanted them but where you would get the most stars to continue playing. I finally had a great round going, and ended up with a score of 4,371. I went to play again this morning and wanted to watch an ad for 10 more tiles and that world was gone. I put a lot of effort into that world and that upset me greatly.

Second of all, once you really get going you have to watch an ad every 5-7 tiles when you get a ‘bonus.’ So like a minute of gameplay and a 30 second ad. And in the beginning of playing if you get a new decorative tile, even if you decline it makes you watch an ad. I think with some improvement a lot of people would pay for an ad free version because the constant interruption takes away from the gameplay.

Relaxing and Fun

This game was great as it didn’t require wifi to play and was a relaxing time waster. I do wish that there were different types of levels besides just increasing the length of the level and types of land. Once you hit a certain point in the level, it’s impossible to fail unless you purposefully try to. It would bring more depth to the game if you did add more to the difficulty. I also recommend adding more things to use the currency on like different pallets (ex candy land or spooky) or theme (for the menu screen).

One thing that has kept me from playing the game is the recent update. The confirm placement is now almost completely covered up by the abilities. I have an iPhone XR, if that helps any.

Overall, this is an enjoyable and relaxing game that could easily be improved with small features 🙂

Too easy

I downloaded this game and few days ago and instantly fell in love. I liked a the game play, the challenge of placing the tiles in the best place to get the most stars. I liked that there was only ads to get monuments or when you had run out of tiles.

However, I updated it today and don’t like the changes.
1. I’m still on my first game, really preferred them ending quickly if you didn't plan well. I have over 1,000 stars and 109 tiles remaining.
2. There are too many bonuses and it’s really easy to get stars and additional tiles. There is no challenge. I am playing on an iPhone. Scrolling to get to where I want to place a tile it taking the most time in the game.
3. Now there are too many ads. Earn a bonus - ad. Finish a ‘level’ - ad. You can still get monuments by watching ads and permanently unlock them, but I got all the new ones in like 5 minutes of gameplay.

While I like to play games to relax, I pick the games I do, because I also like to think and have some type of challenge. There is no challenge and I will probably have to completely self sabotage this round in order to start a new game.

50% Ads

If you want to spend 50% of your game time watching ads then get this game!
The game could be great but devs have opted to make a few quick bucks off forced ad watching rather than spend a little more time developing this puzzle game into something worth playing.
The concept is great - simple matching to build a cute island - but levels never increase in difficulty, complexity, or design. You have to watch an ad every five tiles or so that you place to receive a bonus. There is a button to skip the second bonus but it will take you to an ad anyways.
My advise to the devs is work on creating levels of varying difficulty and visual styles, decrease ads and create a paid option for those of us who don’t want to watch any ads. If you don’t someone else is going to take your game concept and run with it.

Lots of videos. Like. A LOT

This is a decent game, has exactly what I look for. I love the concept, and it’s calming - no stress involved.

HOWEVER.

A few changes need to be done if I am going to continue on.

- I want the option to “x” out of the bonus choice.
- the bonus choice shouldn’t be all videos. I can’t “x” out, and one of the three choices has the video tag but even choosing one of the other two that DONT have the video tag on it makes you watch a video.
- I want an option to purchase a “no ads” deal where I don’t have to watch a video.
- when I say A LOT of videos, I mean TOO MANY.
* you have to watch a video every 5-10 tile placements.
* if you sit for too long a video will pop up randomly.
* to claim a bonus you have to watch a video.

I watch about 30 videos in 45-60 minutes worth of playing. THATS TOO MANY.

Once your placement of tiles gets to the gift on the bar at the top of the screen, only the one marked with the video tag should be the one with the video.

I have 300 tiles to place. That’s over 200 videos I’ll have to watch. I don’t want to watch a video for every minute or two of playtime.

I don’t know if it even deserves 2 stars

The game has a good premise, I love the idea, but there are ads every two seconds (exaggerating, but VERY often) and it’s extremely annoying!!! It’s also very laggy. My phone is at full percentage and I sit in my chair every single day. Nothing is different about what I did today versus every other day, and the second I go off the game, all my other apps work perfectly. And the pop-ups, those are also VERY annoying. That’s it. There just annoying. Lastly (that I can think of), there is no button to go back. If I make a mistake, place something somewhere by mistake, I can’t redo it unless I want to redo the ENTIRE land. P.S. collecting the coins is such a hassle! There should be a “collect all coins” button.

As frequency a bit high, NOT meditative

The gameplay is great if you like puzzley type games. The game is not well optimized, it does make my phone overheat after playing for 20+ minutes.

Too many ads and there’s no one-time payment to buy out of them. I would gladly pay $5 to permanently get rid of the ads because I don’t understand how this game can be “meditation” with this amount of ads.

As you play, you earn stars for well-placed tiles. So, as you get better at the game, you can earn stars a little faster. Stars progress you to certain thresholds (enough stars for upgrades, chances for special tiles) and each threshold has the OPTION to watch an ad for a benefit.

However I find that even if I skip the benefit, I STILL get an ad. So I might as well get the benefit if I’m going to watch the same ad anyways.

These thresholds happen way too often and I can’t play for more than a minute or two before I have to watch another ad.

I suppose this game is “meditative” because I am always forced to confront my thoughts while waiting for ANOTHER ad to finish so I can play more.

Fun game; too many ads.

I’d really like an option where I could spend $2-3 dollars to get rid of the ads. It’s a fun game but it’s getting really frustrated to have the game interrupted mid-play by ads after you choose your bonus. If adding a payment option isn’t plausible, I’d really suggest at least moving the ads to the end of the level. I don’t mind watching ads in general. Game developers deserve to make a profit off the games we play, especially if they’re free. It’s just the placement of the ad that really takes me out of my element and the immersion of the game to the point where I’m almost ready to delete it lol.

I love it but please fix this big bug!

I really love this game. I’d gladly pay a few bucks to get rid of ads and only have the optional bonus ads. But I keep experiencing this extremely frustrating bug! In a level, I’ll have met the stars requirement but it won’t finish the level. I’ll have to earn an additional 30-50 stars to pass, which I sometimes have to watch ads multiple times to do. Extremely annoying! I do also miss the endless mode, how the game used to be. I suggest adding that mode back as an option as well.

Good Game, Bad Ad Regulation

I love playing this game, I really want to rate 5 stars! It’s lots of fun HOWEVER there are so many ads!! Any time you get a “bonus” in a level you get to choose to “watch an ad for a bonus prize” but then they force you to watch the ad anyways? So why even ask if I want to watch the ad?
Anyways.
I feel like this game would be better if they offered an “ad free” purchase so the only ads you’d have to watch would be bonus ads.
Besides that the game is super fun and easy and all of the cute areas and production tiles are very well designed!

Good but could improve

First of all, I’d like to say that it’s a really fun game. I enjoy placing different terrain in different spots. But there are some annoying things too. Every time I decline watching an ad to get a special tile, it gives me an ad anyways. It would be a five star review from me if they also added a new feature. They should add an endless mode where you can choose your own tiles instead having them just queued up for you. You could just build infinitely as long as you wanted to. Overall it’s a fun game with tons of potential, the creators just need to use it.

Serious Pest Control

I would seriously give this game a 4 but it is one of those games that has an ad every 5-10 seconds so 4 it would’ve been. So, why a 2? Because it has some major bug issues. The ads are bad enough but every time an ad plays, the game crashes/freezes. So I have to close the game out EVERY TIME. And the load up takes a hot minute too. If I’m real lucky? The ad won’t even get to play, it’ll freeze in the middle of the ad or before it can even start. No matter what, I’m having to reboot the game way too many times. Hope you guys fix the issue quick or I’ll be uninstalling.

a down grade from the original

first off, allot of people probably have no idea but this is a direct copy of dorf romantik, a very visually beautiful and peaceful game you can get on steam on your pc.
the only difference here is the dull art used to make the tiles, theres mountains but no trains or railways, random structures youre forced to earn by watching a ad when youre too good at the game (even when i decline), you watch more ads to get bonuses whether you want to or not, and then you watch ads to get single use abilities.
basically every time you play one level, youre going to watch about five ads every. single. time. and then if you resume playing a world when the level is complete, youre gonna continue watching ads until you have no more tiles!
theres no meditation in seeing royal match ads 20 times inna row, i would rather pay fully for the original dorf romantik on mobile even if its the same price as it is on steam than this.

Cute and relaxing. Needs more depth and challenge

This game is lovely to look at, but insanely easy. I’ve never come even close to running out of moves. I played for perhaps 3 or 4 hours and had collected all the special monument things.

The game needs more. Things to spend coins on, or ways to name your cities, or something.

I also spent the 5$ to kill the ads because there were SO MANY. It was basically unplayable after two levels without spending $.

Has So Much Potential!

This game is great, and it’s addicting. However, if you play well enough, you’re kind of overwhelmed with tiles that you’ll just keep building. I would like to see a future version where you can close out of worlds if you still have tiles, a save/delete feature, and maybe a tile scroll function so you can pick and choose which tiles you want to use, not just what’s in linear order.

I’m looking forward to see what LandBuilder can do.

Fun and addictive

I really like this game a lot. It has a lot of potential. I gave it a 3 star rating, because every 3-5 moves it goes to a mandatory video watch. Some of the videos dont finish and blank the screen out… needing to restart the game.
I would happily pay a fee not to have to watch the videos. It really bogs down the game.
There are also way to many water tiles, even when you pick give me more forrest tiles. Why are more grass tiles not an option?
Anyway… ill keep playing til the adds annoy me and then i’ll delete the game.

By

Start of a great idea

I really enjoy this game! I love being able to try and figure out where to put the tile but when you run out of tiles and need to start a new game and you did well on the previous you can never go anywhere with the next build cause you have to get so high and only have 25 tiles to start with! I feel if you made the next game not based off the first you will have people continue playing!

More ads? Check button is covered up?

I don’t like this update. Yesterday I got ads only when I powered up or got a monument. Today I’m getting ads on every other tile. No thanks. Too many ads make a good game not so fun. The only way you can set a tile is to click the green check mark. Now it’s hidden by the three options at the bottom. If you lower those three options just a smidge I can actually click on the check mark. Please go back to the way it was.

I love this game so much!

I love this game, when I wrote my review, the first time you couldn’t pay to remove ads, and I had specifically asked for that to be added, and I gotta tell ya I am so happy they did. $4.99 is worth the amount of joy this game gives me. I’ve paid more for less, so this is a win.

Great fun, too many bonuses and ads

I started playing this game to relax, and after I discovered that you can go back and continue levels you have completed, I started building huge maps and having a lot of fun. In fact, that part might also be interesting for fantasy writers wanting to create a world map.

The problem comes from the unskipable bonuses that are forced on you every 40 stars. Once you have a large map, 40 stars amounts to about 4 tiles, and then you are forced to choose a bonus you probably don’t want. I don’t want more stars, they force more bonuses on me. I don’t want a higher percentage of water or city or forest, that might mess up the balance I have. I don’t need a higher production rate for the tiles, I have enough. But I have to choose a bonus, and they get worse the more often you choose them. And then after every bonus there are mandatory ads (either you play one to get another bonus or they just play anyway). It makes me want to avoid getting stars, and really takes away from the otherwise fun and relaxing game. D

Imaginative Meditation

I use LandBuilder every night to calm my brain down to sleep. But I am also entertained by it enough that I frequently go to it throughout my day. This is maybe my favorite app I’ve ever had on my phone and I’m genuinely thankful to the creators for helping me feel comfortable and enjoy being in my own head. I find myself creating storylines for the worlds that emerge and thinking of imagining what kind of people might live there. It’s a beautiful way to just be at peace.

I have only one ask of the developers. Because I use it so often to fall asleep, I really wish there was a night time mode. The colors of the game are bright and beautiful, and I think the option to make the map have a cozy nighttime setting would go a long way.

Either way, I hope the creators see this review if only to know how much I enjoy their creation. I’m so excited for whatever they choose to do with the game down the road.

Great Game - Highly Recommended

I have been playing this for a week now and like it a lot. I think the level of detail and work put into this is great. I will say there is one negative thing I will say about this game; each level feels too short. Every time I feel like I’m making good progress the level finishes and forces you to start over in the next level. I wish that the developers would add a new game mode where it lets you infinitely choose your own tiles without having to start over. Thank you for this great game, however there is room for improvement.

Disappointed.

I used to have this game and it was so amazing. Seemingly endless games, amazing opportunities for creativity and world building. I remember having amassed such a massive world and i was so proud of it. years later i find this game again and im so happy to enjoy the endless possibilities once again only to find out they removed it entirely. truly shattered my soul. i am begging please either bring back the old endless mode or include it in the game after a certain amount of levels. this is such a good game idea but you took out the one part of it that could attract a wider fan base. please please please bring it back and my life will be complete.

Easy to learn, hard to stop playing!

Land Builder is easy to learn and super cute (which is always a bonus), but at the same time, it requires enough brainpower that it’s a satisfying mental workout!

I can only think of one thing that would make this amazing game even more wonderful. Unlockable skins. Maybe we can purchase texture packs, maybe you periodically release more unique buildings, maybe users can change color palettes on tiles in their settings or something.

I just noticed the skin update, as I’ve slowed down on playing in the past month. It looks fantastic! Skins and texture packs can be the perfect way to include user creations and/or purchases, yet preserve the beautiful simplicity of the gameplay. You don’t need to add anything to the way the game actually functions! <3

I had fun for the first 1 1/2 levels. Until I couldn’t play anymore

I just downloaded this game thinking it’d be a perfect way to spend some of my free time off of life things. And I really was loving it but I was only able to play for about five minutes before I was bombarded with their beginner/starter and no add packs. But that wasn’t even why I’m writing this review, since I do not want to purchase the packs, I closed out the offers and then my screen would center on my little creation and bug out so I could no longer move, or tap on anything. The game didn’t freeze as the water tile’s waves were still moving, but I was no longer able to interact with the game. I tried restarting but the same problem happened several times over.

My go-to to relax

I enjoyed this game enough to buy the ad-free pack and for me that’s saying something. It’s my go-to for when I need to just zone out or pass time. It’s really simple to play. My only complaint would be that the more you advance and upgrades you unlock it starts to become *too* easy. It’s basically impossible to lose at this point, even with the challenge levels. So the devs may want to make the higher challenge levels harder in the future, or maybe add some different modes?
Either way, still fun.

By

New Game

I really enjoy this game, but the ads are mad ridiculous I literally read a book while I play this game or I would honestly delete it due to the massive amount of commercials/ads that are constantly played. Then it glitches constantly and has to be shut down and restarted as it doesn’t show you where you put a platform. It’s a seriously enjoyable game, but does need some work. I hope more time and effort goes into updating it and improving it and maybe has less ads because it’s not relaxing when you are watching more ads than playing the game, sad.
