Although it displays a message that it will continue running in the background, it doesn’t. Without that it’s not useful for anything.

This app is useless. It doesn’t give any info, it just circles forever.

As soon as I opened the app, it gave me a loading icon, and stayed that way until my phone went to sleep from inactivity. then the gps app would "run in the background," which is useless if I can't access the data.
