Palm Springs Modernism Tour Reviews

Yes this program does download but it takes a very long time, perhaps hours depending on the download speed. Once downloaded it is an excellent introduction to the topic, even if the program is a little buggy. Functionality is good, but it would have been nice to be able to go from thumbnail pictures or map location icons directly to the detailed descriptions of the properties. We did not use this as a real time tour guide. With some planning ahead, patience and fast network internet access this might be possible.

I bought this to take a self-guided tour of modernist homes in Palm Springs. The information, photos, and recorded narratives were great. Unfortunately, there are some serious shortcomings that made PalmSpringsModernismTour difficult to use for navigation. The driving directions, when used through PalmSpringsModernismTour , cause the GPS sound not to work, so it requires a person to navigate in addition to the driver.

I set up a Favorites Tour, which seemed like a great idea, but although PalmSpringsModernismTour asked for location tracking, it didn’t use that information to put the tour in a sequence that made sense for my current location.

As far as apps go, this one was expensive and I expected better performance.

I was a little dubious given some of the reviews, and it wasn’t perfectly seamless, but after the first view sites we got into a rhythm of toggling back and forth between mapping and sites. When tour buses are safe again, that may be a better option, as we couldn’t see over some gates from our car. But $5 was a great price for a 90-minute, air conditioned, family activity with art, history, culture, geology, and navigation. And that was only one tour, there’s still two more we can do!

My family just used this - it downloaded in a few seconds - there’s tons of information. It’s great. No technical difficulties whatsoever.

We drove around and used the audio function so it was like we were at a museum. Highly recommend for a day trip.

Only problem is that many of the most famous houses are hidden. If PalmSpringsModernismTour could link to tours of homes that might be helpful.

Purchased this and looked forward to driving around and looking at architecture with my wife. However although family sharing is set up for our phones, we would have had to pay again for it to be downloaded to my wife’s phone. Therefore called Apple to get refund

As a Coachella Valley resident and avid historian, I have found the information in PalmSpringsModernismTour extremely useful. The factual addresses, photos and details about significant modern architecture in Palm Springs is invaluable. Many thanks to Palm Springs Modern Committee for this educational and fun app.

So far I’ve only looked at 10% to 20% of all the sites listed, but I’ve found several errors. The structure of PalmSpringsModernismTour and the quality of the photos is very good, but the overall impression due to the errors is not. Errors include mismatches between site names and the associated photos and incorrect naming of an architect. I expected MUCH better.

Don't buy this. PalmSpringsModernismTour is worthless because the numbers don't accurately correspond. Seems like an update was made but only half-way completed. The information on the locations is good - but the problem is you get the wrong information when you arrive to a location. A complete waste.

I would highly recommend for all Architectural enthusiasts and anyone just curious about Palm Springs !!

You could easily google/wiki “modern sites in Palm Springs” and find the places listed here plus more info about all of them. I thought more houses would be included but it’s lots of airport/city hall/library type buildings and several of the houses were just barely viewable from the street.

Latest version is fast, stable and works great. Early issues have long been resolved.

Goes to many boring condo buildings. Biggest issue is many streets have become security gated, so you can’t get to the sites being described. A waste of money and time.

Poor design, not user friendly. Always an advertisement when using even though it’s a pay app. Needs professional help.

As other reviewers said, just doesn’t work! Don’t do it!

Just returned from our first trip to Palm Springs and PalmSpringsModernismTour proved invaluable. We loved using it in the car and in preparation before we ventured out for neighborhood walks. It's easy to navigate and go about finding a home or business from many routes: the architect, the area, names of building, etc. The map feature is fantastic. We went from place to place and never felt frustrated. I love the old and new photos, as well as the commentary and fun facts about each project. I don't usually purchase too many apps, but this enhanced our visit so much. I wouldn't hesitate.

Palm Springs' amazing cache of mid-century modern architecture is all here in this essential guide. My friends and I were able to access all of the city's most important architecture in the span of a weekend--and we didn't miss anything. The driving tours are chock full of content, with informative commentary from expert historians, high quality photos and video, and insider stories directly from the architects who created their modern masterpieces in the Southern California desert. Do be patient with the download. it's well worth the wait.

It gets only three stars because it is HORRIBLY unstable. Using it with an iPad Mini on wifi or a iPhone 4S on 4G - it CONSTANTLY crashes. This is made worse by the fact that if you are in the middle of one of the apps "tours" you have to start all over. And as you go forward to try and find your spot… it crashes again.

That being said, the content is excellent. Just wish it was possible to actually take one of the apps "tours" to completion.

Gigantic app, so find a coffee shop with wifi for download. App is well designed and has good information on the buildings it features. Not a complete MCM survey, though. Worse, the map feature, which is critical for an efficient tour, doesn't work well in some parts of town. We had limited time in town and too much time was spent nursing PalmSpringsModernismTour .

I downloaded PalmSpringsModernismTour several years ago and have gotten a great deal of enjoyment from it both during yearly Palm Springs stays and at home. It offers a wealth of information, great photos, maps, and videos. Apple recently sent me a message informing me that it may not be comparable on future operating systems. I hope the developers prepare PalmSpringsModernismTour for future upgrades.
