Very handy

Unlike New York Subway MTA, which only shows scheduled train times, MTA Subway Time shows the same information seen in the subway system itself; that is, the actual, expected arrival times, based on current conditions.

The interface is also very easy to use. I’d like to see one enhancement though. Once you select a train and a station, it would be nice to be able to quickly compare any other trains that arrive at the same station, so a commuter can more easily decide in a route change, if possible.

Still, it isn’t that hard to look up alternative routes quickly, but not if you’re unfamiliar with where you are, e.g. tourists, when you might not know what other trains are available. Nevertheless, it’s a very nice app.

Can’t live without this app

If you have many train options to choose from at your station, this is a great app to help you decide which train to take because you can see which trains are arriving soon at your specified station!

I would love to see MTASubwayTime eliminate the initial screen where you have to select the subway line you’re interested in. It is really not necessary. Instead, it should simply allow you to search for the station name and show all arrivals for all lines at that station. Even better would be to show you your nearest station from where you’re located and which trains will be arriving soon!

Nice attempt, but please work with a modern app developer

It’s really nice that the MTA is trying here and the information is definitely more helpful than nothing, but MTASubwayTime could be so much better with just a little bit of work.

So many simple improvements including stuff like favoriting stations, collapsible lists of stations by borough, and even service status going straight to subway service since it’s a subway app!

Talk a few of the thousands of tech workers who take the subway every day and I’m sure you can improve MTASubwayTime very quickly and make a lot of people much happier.

Invisible “Ghost Trains”

While MTASubwayTime will show the trains on the 4, 5, and 6 lines as the physical countdown clocks do. You’ll also see randomly added trains that aren’t really there. I’ve been seeing it pretty consistently where there will be a train 7-8 minutes away in the station I’m at, and MTASubwayTime will also show that. But, it will also show a train 2-3 minutes away ahead of it, that isn’t even there! Very misleading, it’s either they are mixing this with the scheduled times of the train, or they are saying there are more trains running then actually are. That’s a major problem.

Hmmmmmm

Agree with everyone that you can basically get to the info you need...but a bad update from the format of the last app...

I think we went from 6 down to 4 of the next avail trains times in either direction...no location services or ability to add favorites, which makes looking at your home or work stations EVERY day that much more annoying.

Plus the dark blue header makes the “time posted” display harder to see when outside (ie en route to said transportation); so while a train may say 3 mins away, that’s the timing from 2 mins ago - aka up to date refresh button, maybe?

Also, since any given station shows all trains avail there, why have a separate butting for all the different lines at a station? Inefficient.

Appreciate having the info, but take the suggestions from we who interact with it most and keep working please.

Accurate but...

So far MTASubwayTime is pretty accurate on arrival times since I live next to a station and can very faintly hear them pass...that being said how is there not an option within MTASubwayTime to save one’s favorite or most used stations for direct or default access? Minus two stars until that feature is added otherwise helpful when they’re running right which is only two thirds the time anyways.

Favorite stations pls

MTASubwayTime is much better than any subway schedule or the ever-failing new MTA app because it just shows you the same times that are updated every minute that show on he subway platform. Super helpful! However, if I’m making split decisions to try to make my train, it would be so helpful if you could incorporate “favorite” stations that you have quicker access to pull up its times.

Needs favorite stations

MTASubwayTime is at version 2.1.8 and still doesn't have basic features like favorite stations. You have to pick a line and then manually search for a station. If you make the same commute every day, like most, this is tedious. In addition to favorite stations/directions, it would be great if MTASubwayTime could use GPS to indicate train times for the nearest stations.

Really useful on the train platform

Provides simple yet valuable information about train arrivals so you can make quick decisions about what train to take and whether it makes sense to get off for a transfer. While the interface is kind of dated, it’s simplicity makes it fast and responsive.

So innacurate I just deleted it.

I have never written a review but I am now stuck in a sweltering subway station for 7 more minutes because of how off MTASubwayTime is. I actually took a screen shot of how the downtown trains were running every two minutes when I was leaving home because the efficiency was so unusual. I guess it was indeed too good to be true. Entering the station the updated app showed a train at 1,3, and 8 minutes but the next was actually in 8. I don’t even understand how extra potential trains register at all. MTASubwayTime is completely useless.

Best MTA Train Time App!

This is the best mta app I have used and it's free! Very accurate! The same train times as the countdown clocks at the train station. Finally an app that works and is accurate so you know how much time you have before the next train arrives. Also has live updated track work and delay info. Five stars

Only good for closures and problems

The times only sometimes agree for the 6 line. Often there are train times shown in MTASubwayTime that are not shown on the board at the station. When the time reaches 0 on the phone, no train then arrives. For the trains that do arrive, yes, the info is the same as at the station, but by then you may miss your connection or appointment.
Also when using MTASubwayTime , once at the station page, MTASubwayTime does not automatically update! One has to go back and forth to get an update!

Best mta app for frequent subway users

If you know your route and just need to know when your next train is, MTASubwayTime is great, could use a better internal refresh rate, you have to exit out the screen and click the stop again to see updated times

Good- could be great

MTASubwayTime was long overdue but I’m thrilled it finally exists. It would be even better if it was also possible to pin a handful of top stations. I would love to be able to pull up my home station in 1 click rather then the 2-4 it currently takes. Not to mention the added scrolling and strangle long load times between clicks.

Great start & has room to be better

The simple fact that the times on MTASubwayTime is 99% accurate is the most amazing start we can ask of MTA.

One suggestion is to add the ability to save certain stations as “Home”/“Work”/other saved locations, so that they can be accessible quickly from the front page.
