Learn with Forward Chess Reviews

The chess pieces from the GM repertoire is stuck when I try to make it move.

Apps like this have the potential to make reading a chess book way more convenient, because you can always see the current position.

This is a good start but it’s just a beginning, it needs more work.

As far as bugs are concerned, it does not remember correctly the location on the page when restarting LearnwithForwardChess . On a chapter with ~ 10 games, it’s not easy to find the place to continue.

Also, it loses the current position when double-tapping to go full screen (or return from full screen).

In terms of features, the main thing I miss is some kind of visual indication that there’s text to read after the current move. Imagine I watch the board and then tap the Next button to advance through the game. Unless I check the notation after every move (very distracting) I would miss the move comment. True, there’s a dialog for variations, but that’s not the same thing. Some commented moves don’t have variation. A change in color, some dot lighting up somewhere would mean a lot in terms of convenience.

I’ve used this this for a week now and the ability to follow variations while reading is excellent. However LearnwithForwardChess doesn’t open to my last read page or give me a bookmark so I can get back to where I was. So I’ll have to try and find where I was every time I get back in and that’s frustrating.

I noticed there’s no refund option. Is there a way I can refund purchased books?

LearnwithForwardChess has most of what you need to read chessbooks without a board and pieces. Built in engine. For a short time LearnwithForwardChess had the first built in engine, but now Everyman and others have included engines.
Selection of books is good.
I mostly use Forward Chess on my iPad. I have had difficulty finding all the books I bought on iPad when I open Forward Chess on the computer.

This has it all: the book is digital, the games are there and a board pops up to play them over as your read the lessons and commentary. You can play the variations and then it goes right back to the game. And, best of all, you can hit a button and the powerful Stockfish chess engine starts running at the bottom of the page as you play through the games and variations!
Maybe the earlier reviewers had some previous version. These aren't scanned books, they have had every move of every game entered digitally so you can play them over as you read. And the lost of available chess books grows every week.
Yes, the books are not cheap, but you don't have to buy a board and set and play it as you read. So now you can study chess anywhere, anytime.

If you’re like me, you’re a casual but serious chess player. Great book collection, awesome interface and user friendly. Forward Chess has created a great app for learning and studying chess. You can choose board and text size, style, and so on. Books are reasonably priced, and you can always return to the page you left off reading. With just one hand, I can scroll through the game and text while my other hand holds a glass of a choice beverage.

LearnwithForwardChess is undoubtedly the best chess book reading app. Price of the books are lesser than the real book. Furthermore, it has engine with it. Which helps to evaluate positions easily. Highly recommended to anyone.

Many good updates since some of the older comments. This is my favorite for reading chess books. Interactive board with books,now we can add highlights to pages,also notes, and bookmarks.

LearnwithForwardChess makes studying chess convenient and simple while on the go. You can also explore your own lines whenever you want! My only complaint is that my favorite chess books are not yet part of LearnwithForwardChess…

LearnwithForwardChess has changed the game for me. Now I can read a book and look at the moves and variations without having to set up a board. It doesn’t replace over the board analysis, but in a world where chess is played mostly online LearnwithForwardChess is amazingly useful. You WILL spend more money on books!

I love LearnwithForwardChess and Have been using it since it came out. However, for some reason it doesn’t allow me to sign in to backup my purchases. I have never had this problem... please fix this problem or unfortunately I will no longer be purchasing ebooks through it.

I have been a member since it’s inception. The books they publish are by far the best books of that genre. The ability to play through the games with the book is a huge advantage. A few other apps have tried to replicate but they come up short. A chess app that I have carried through many devices.

Many of my initial complaints about how the text is presented have been addressed, and I read books through LearnwithForwardChess often now. Thanks!
