The worst format I’ve experienced

I prefer digital subscriptions. From magazines to newspapers to books, it’s much more convenient to have it all on my iPad. Bass Player magazine has been pretty good on the digital front until they decided to go through this “My Favourite Magazines” digital subscription manager. Every time I open BassPlayerUS , without fail, there is a problem downloading an issue or logging in. I am told to go to the Help section to navigate how to retrieve my issues through iTunes. The content is good but not worth the hassle. Bass Player needs to do some more research on user experience. This coupled with the fact that I literally receive two spam emails a week asking me to subscribe to bass player magazine (I’ve been subscribed for years) makes me think they have completely lost touch with their reader base, they have us chopped up into different categories (digital vs print?) and are not honed in on the actual concerns of their market.

Missing All Issues - Avoid updating until further notice!

This latest update deleted all of my issues, dating back to 2011. I spoke with tech support and went through all of their recommended steps five times to fix & restore. Nothing worked. I was then given an excuse that they'd be closed Dec 20 - Jan 2 and that "no further work will be undertaken during this time". I'm all for people having a nice winter holiday, but a keeping an app broken for 3+ weeks (that we've paid to use) is unacceptable. This new Bass Player UK is sadly off to a very rocky start.

Subscribed but no issues

I'd like a refund please, your publication is unacceptably blurry and I'm forced to purchase print issues if I want to actually READ any articles great magazine but I’ve subscribed (off and on for years) and I can’t read anything but the sample.

All my old magazines are gone!

The last update allowed me to restore only a few last magazines, even that I paid for many more. I had about 50 magazines I have purchased, that are now gone. Very disappointed. I unsubscribed.

The mag is great, the customer service is horrible.

The title says it all.

Great mag; app readability needs a lot of work!

I like this magazine a lot, and think the transcription section is always helpful. I have one other Ipad magazine, and a newspaper that I read regularly - so I thought I'd subscribe electronically to BassPlayer. I'm disappointed that it appears as if these are just scanned "PDF's" of the pages of the print magazine, as opposed to how others like The Economist display the same content as their print versions. I find that the text is somehwat blurry to read to begin with - and if you try to adjust the size of the print (since this is like a static PDF) - it becomes even more blurry as you expand. Not enjoyable. The Economist text is crystal clear - a pleasure to read. I highly recommend that BassPlayer fix this issue, so that they don't tarnish what is otherwise great magazine content.

Why don't publishers "get it?"

I love this magazine, and am a long time print subscriber. However, there is no way I will ever give up my print subscription when the digital subscription costs twice as much. Could it be that is exactly the reaction the publisher desired, in an effort to protect their print subs?

Conde Naste is the one of the few publishers that seems to "get" the digital model. I am a print subscriber to Wired, and I get access to the digital version of the magazine (which includes actual digital content, rather than just a digital remake of the print product) with my subscription rather than as an added cost. The result? I actually spend more time consuming their product!

BassPlayerUS is a great example of how to do digital distribution in exactly the wrong way. I love you, Bass Player, but this is just atrocious.

More Garbage

This is my experience with a sister publication. I'm not going to waste my time typing a new review, since my experience with Bass Player was essentially the same: After being lured with a free issue that they then tried to charge me for I deleted this garbage app. I've been a subscriber of Guitar Player since 1976 and I thought I'd give the digital edition a try (especially since the printed version has gotten so bad over the years). I would think digital distribution would give publishers a chance to embrace a new technology and innovate, but in this case, a I think not. Guitar Player, you've been an old and dear friend and ill miss you-this experience just motivated me to finally stop reflexively renewing my print edition.

Extremely Frustrated

I love this magazine. However, I am not able to download any past subscriptions. It asks me for a user name and password... That I never set up! Please fix this. I would have never purchased a more expensive subscription if it weren't for the convenience. But this has proven to be pretty inconvenient.

Blurry unreadable PDFs

Just downloaded a "digital" back issue. These are not digital retina designs, just blurry poorly scanned PDFs. You cannot pinch and zoom. When you do the images and typeface just gets so blurry and grainy it is unreadable. Waste of money, I would not buy subscription for iPad until you catch up to the digital age.... Wish I could give it no stars"

I don't get it

You are purchasing an app that allows you to view the magazine.
You must purchase each magazine for $5.99.

I was a subscriber since the inception of Bass Player (now- "bass player" !!!) I allowed my subscription to expire because the magazine has declined in value of content. I did appreciate the interviews of players from diverse genres. We in the brotherhood share common ideals regardless of musical styles.

Thought this would be worth getting 'for free' - but it is not free and as mentioned above, I cannot justify the cost for this publication anymore.

Keep it low - stay out of treble,

Can't read it. Won't open.

Have had the subscription for a couple of years. Now it won't open. Turned off auto renewal until it's fixed...

WHY DO I NEED TO PAY TWICE

Very frustrated that this is not offered as a bonus for print subscribers but would need to pay twice to have both the physical magazine as well as electronic edition.

By

Can I give this zero stars? BEWARE!!

It pains me to write this because I am a long-time fan of the magazine, but it is true and I must warn you.

If you bought a year's subscription through the old Bass Player app, it WILL NOT transfer to the new app. As a result I am out the ten remaining issues in my sub.

So far neither BassPlayerUS creator nor Apple seem able or willing to fix this. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Won't update previous subscription

I lost half of my subscription, will not let me download Oct or Nov and my subscription is good until Jan 2013, what a rip off

Not stable

App needs works.. Crashes far too often.

Terrible Customer Service

I subscribed over a month ago and cannot access any issues. I've emailed them twice and received no help. I simply received the reply "We are updating our database and will let you know when your account is accessible" twice. I love the magazine and have been a print subscriber in the past. I am amazed at how this company does not care about its digital customers. At this point, they have taken 14.99 from me. I STILL have no access and do not see it getting any better. Buyer beware. Do NOT give them your money.

Poor presentation

I was looking forward to BP coming to the iPad. Big letdown.

The interface is nothing more then an electronic paste up of the magazine. It might as well be a PDF.

BP needs to look at how Wired or Rolling Stone presents their content.

Glad I didn't subscribe.

Great magazine but terrible app
