4.7 out of 5
Ruined by excessive ads

This is an updated review. See my original one below. This was a great app until the developer must have sold out to Google. Now there are unending ads that play over the music - completely ruining any listening experience. Just about every 5 minutes another ad plays on top of the music. And these are not short ads - some are a minute long. ClassicalRadio is total trash. Shame on you developer! Shame on you!!! I’d give this zero stars if I could. Better to just download individual PBS station apps.

For many years I used to listen to some of the best publicly funded classical radio programming from all across the country. But I had to log onto each website to stream the audio. ClassicalRadio lets me have access to many of those very same channels like WCPE, WDAV, WKSU, WGUC, KAZU, and others. I’m in seventh heaven listening to classical music 24-7 thanks to ClassicalRadio.

Ugh

I really like ClassicalRadio because it plays classical music that I can sleep to. However the reason why I give it a two star out of five is because it keeps shutting off even though there is no shut off timer on. And when I have it on the Beethoven channel it constantly skips or makes this weird noise after it’s been playing for about 15 minutes. Also the whole calm radio stations are so incredibly annoying because they talk so much and don’t have as much music.

Numerous stations, but no way to create a favorites list.

Too many stations play single movements of a major work. I don’t want to see one act of a Shakespeare play or a portion of a Van Gogh painting. I want the whole work, not a peep show! Other stations think movie music is the same genre. Still others have announcers who rattle on with what they know (or think they know) or worse, think they are entertainers who are adding to the experience.

If the playlist has a truly good selection of music I could stand some commercials and even the absence of a line identifying the composer t and piece being played.

A favorites list gives the listener a chance to throw the chaff to the wind and not have to go searching a long list.

Great access to music; should be easier to use.

I use ClassicalRadio frequently, and enjoy it a lot. A suggestion: A “favorites” feature that provides a short list of a user’s most frequent stations would save a lot of scrolling. Possible bug: My favorite station for background music while working is Venice Classical. Often nothing happens when I select it, though; this can be a problem at any time of day. Similar things happen with other stations.

Swiss Classic was a favorite, but it is no longer available. Please bring it back.

Great selection, crummy user experience

I’d love to subscribe but there’s not a working option to do so on ClassicalRadio . I would happily pay to not have ads, but would prefer to do it through ClassicalRadio and not from a website. Also, even if I did subscribe on the website, there’s not a way to sign into a paid account through ClassicalRadio that I can see or figure out.

That said, I do really love the selection of pieces. Just let me give you $$$ though so I don’t have to listen to a bunch of Calm Radio ads... but let me do it through ClassicalRadio .

It’s free

ClassicalRadio is the station adjustment dial on your morning radio commute. I’m a mid-20s millennial, however, I very much like tuning into the broadcast each day. More so than channeling into one of my monthly music subscription archives. Those feel drab, and their “radio” channels to find new music are always playing the music I already have. That’s silly. It’s isolating listening to one’s own limited collection, over and over the same music. It’s like never getting fresh air. But tuning into a broadcast fixes that. And ClassicalRadio does it for free.

Could use a few tweaks

I love the variety of stations available. The only reason this didn’t get 5 stars is because there are a couple features I think many people would find handy. For one, a “favorites” tab where you can easily find your preferred stations. And for two, I’d like to see a sleep timer feature as well. I love listening to music at bedtime, but I hate leaving it run all night. So a timer feature would be great.
Overall, this is a good app.

This application is a gift to humanity

I don’t always want to be a good girl; when I listen to some of the songs on these stations, I feel much more grounded and it curbs my tongue. Much of this music helps me to turn away from behaviors that I know won’t do me any good. The application makes things simple enough for me to do so, effortlessly.

Great Music!

ClassicalRadio is really wonderful. I listen mainly to Abacus (no ads!) Beethoven and they used to be “Perfect” but then they stopped identifying which piece they were playing. So I’ll have to give them a 4 star rating bc often I am not able to identify which piece is playing. But I still appreciate ClassicalRadio very much!

Music To Sell Away In

I enjoy classical music, and ClassicalRadio provides it, which I am grateful. When it’s not freezing outside, I enjoy riding my bike with Bach it one of the greats in my ear, as the birds flying from tree to tree, and the trees are expressing what God has done. In creation. Or just sitting outside under a tree reading a good book. Thanks for providing these good ol classics!

Best relaxing app

You can relax by listening any sort or classical music. Thank God for those musicians from the past that brought such a bright light into sound for the delight of people that still appreciate this kind of tunes. Also this music gets your mind off the pollution of this world that we live in.

Brings back memories

Growing up, I was blessed to get to hear a baby grand piano all of the time. My sister, Christa played from the age of 7 and by the time she was in middle school she was already playing Chopin, and Mauler. Those years have long gone, and we have our own family’s now. Thanks for making ClassicalRadio!

Excellent!

Essential music on an easy to use app.

Could you please work on the top stations dropping sometimes? I’ll be listening and at the quiet parts they’ll just not come back from a long totally rad classical jam sesh. That might just be my service. 😂

KCME from Manitou Springs is a contender to be up there next to All Classical Portland, my hometown classical station. Love you guys! 💓 great app

Almost everything I’m looking for

Even though I also use Pandora, I find that it is limited in the scope of classical music I desire. This is so excellent. There are very few hiccups in the broadcasts. If I do not want to hear a speaker (I usually don’t), it is so effortless to switch stations. In short, I love ClassicalRadio ! Cannot think of one negative! Five stars are certainly deserved!

Classic radio

Love your calm music where I can pick the composer the music the sound and tempo according to how I am feeling and every choise is good Lost connection with you for far too long So happy to have your app back!!!!

Classic Radio
Lost you so so glad to have you back
We need more apps with good classical music choices and reliable news !!!!

Wonderful...but waaay to many interruptions

The variety of music stations is GREAT! Introduced me to some music sounds that I didn’t know were classified as music. Very enriching and beautiful. HOWEVER...there are ALOT of interruptions with commercial advertisements to order the full app and it’s options. So I have to keep switching stations to avoid the repeated advertisements. Once an hour would be plenty...please scale them back.

Awesome App…

I’ve been meaning to write a rave review of ClassicalRadio for years and now I’m looking to see if I can use it on CarPlay. You can always find a station that doesn’t have ads and the choice of music (especially on the Italian stations is unbelievable). This is a dream come true. Last year I had some trouble dialing into ClassicalRadio and the developer came to my rescue within hours of my asking for help. How cool is that!!!

A paradise for classical music explorers.

This is exactly what I was looking for: a versatile yet simple way to expand my listening field. The music is classified in genres like Solo performances, instruments, composers, etc.. Say you feel like listening to a piano concert or are in the right mood for chamber music but don’t know what composers to seek first, then, suffer no more. The sorting is already done for you. It is like opening an menu at a restaurant. All you have to do is pick what you want and explore new appetizers and desserts. Bon Appetit.

Great all-in-one classical app

A great place to get a wide variety of classical stations all in one place. I have actually discovered some great non-local classical stations through ClassicalRadio that I’m now a big fan of. It’s nice to be able to switch between stations quickly without juggling multiple apps. The banner ads are small and unobtrusive, and the controls are straightforward. Thanks for making such a handy app for classical music fans!

Classical

I listen in on ClassicalRadio at least 1-2 times a week ! It is the best classical app, I have 3 others and this one is the best. It has a broad range of streaming services available. Another great feature is the scrolling playlist info of what you are listening to. I listen almost every nite to go to sleep by ! Enjoy the top scrolling of what your listening to. Great music.:.::::;great App Thanks so much .

I listen almost daily as this is one of the best apps I
have.
1 app I have is streaming German classical music, another is all classical streaming from Switzerland.
Great music to listen to!
Thanks for ClassicalRadio .

Features

A: When songs are skipping, it is often because 1) that station's server has recently been reset or 2) the internet isn't filling the audio buffer fast enough.

Usually these issues are resolved with faster internet, changing to a new station, or they resolve on their own after the server resets.

There are several online directories where you can find the stations featured in the app.

A: Each of the stations are run independently and have their own online presence.

A: Some of these stations are controlled by real DJs and if they aren't playing anything at the time or their site is down no music will play.
