Weather Underground Reviews

As a longtime user, I must unfortunately concur with criticism of this latest forced upgrade. Simply put, it is commercially-driven crippleware. An example is the daily summaries, which have been replaced by a conspicuous advert: ‘Upgrade now to get 15 days of summaries’ (for $48/year). The existing summary menu is buried at the bottom of the screen where most users won’t find it or recognize it. Hourly forecast graphing is harder to access and far less readable, and even the Wundermap itself, the distinguishing feature of Weather Underground, has been made less useful and visible. (Although, I approve of the improved mapping quality.)

Instead of fixing long-term bugs like disappearing crowd-sourced weather report controls, and cumbersome menus, they have made WeatherUnderground less distinctive, more generic, less functional and more obviously commercial. Within minutes of using the new app, I found a new bug. Woe be the user who selects ‘my location’ (GPS), when searching for the missing Wundermap station functionality. (Make that two new bugs, or one new bug, and one old one.)

As of 6.4, I am looking for a new weather app. Unfortunately, none of the mundane options which these developers are inexplicably trying to emulate come close to what WU offers in terms of granular weather data. If only they would hire competent developers....

Updated but still frustrated. Constantly crashes, then disappears. I can no longer determine if I’m reading the city daily forecast with matching hourly, and takes too long to match current data. Both my iPad and iPhone have that issue. Example, I look at a city in Texas, daily forecast shows 85* and sunny, yet it kept part of my previous search in Colorado, where each hour shows 19* and snow. If I compare two nearby cities, I certainly don’t know if it is matching. I have ultra fast high speed internet. I cannot get local areas without a long wait. Other weather apps load in 2 seconds. Local areas must have wind gauges inside their porch. We can have high wind warnings, gusts to 50 mph, yet my areas show winds 5 mph. Forecast isn’t as good as other apps, not sure why it steadily went downhill. It often has 0% chance of rain while it rains. I live in a difficult weather area on the edge of the Rockies, and depend on weather data, if the others can do it, why can’t W/U ? Extremely frustrating. Disappointed. I’ve deleted then reinstalled, no success. The Walmart app is even better, never crashes, always updated. What a shame.

I’m finally writing a review because I don’t see things getting better. I’ve had WeatherUnderground since the beginning, in the past WeatherUnderground used to be great, a titan of meteorological information, it’s where I went to get all sources of information even aviation METAR data could be pulled up and read. It had amazing info graphics and a great source of tropical weather. Their network of weather stations and webcams made it very accurate to read and even see what the weather was like pretty much anywhere. sadly since IMB and the weather channel took it over it’s a husk of what used to be my favorite app on my whole phone, they were even making a dedicated storm app but that’s just dust now. I now have to go back to noaa and other sources just to find the info I want, the prediction and data displayed is often wrong or somewhat inaccurate, saying overcast yet it’s barely partly cloudy, I get storm warnings for a place that’s 50 miles away. WeatherUnderground is a general weather app now just like all the others bland and unremarkable. Even the website took a huge hit. Sad days in the kingdom fro those who remember what this used to be.

I’ve been using WeatherUnderground for a long time & have been using Weather Underground as my main source of weather for over 10 years. I even have a few weather stations (home, work, etc.) that are a part of the network. That data feeds into Weather Underground and gives them awesome data and I get an ad-free experience. Or I used to. Now I have ads on my mobile phone all over the place. Tracking is by default, selling my location data, browsing habits, etc. to who knows what sketchy company. I understand that I can log into the web version and get an ad-free experience, but I don’t plan on dragging my laptop with me everywhere. It’s been known for a while that weather apps (specifically those owned under the Weather Company owned by IBM) track, mine, & sell your data. Now that I’m getting pop ups telling me how to turn OFF the tracking that I’ve already turned off because you’ve decided to turn them back on (you know, in case I’ve decided that I’m cool with being tracked), is not so cool. It was a good run, but I bid adieu. I’m pulling all of my weather stations and sending my weather data to someone else.

UPDATE: I wrote the following review weeks ago and came back to see if maybe they fixed WeatherUnderground . No they didn’t fix WeatherUnderground and I found out they deleted my ONE STAR review. THAT IS A SCAM TO DELETE PEOPLES REVIEWS.

I have had WeatherUnderground for years and years. It has been my favorite app for all weather inquiries. With this new update I’m sad to say that I now have to delete it from my phone. Their is just too many things wrong with the change. I have owned iPhones since the iPhone 3 was released and this is the first app that I can ever remember giving one star to. So that should tell you how bad it is now. Never change an app completely. If you have a vision on what you want your app to look like, then slowly change it through updates so the users can get used to the change slowly. The first time I opened WeatherUnderground after the update I couldn’t believe that you changed everything. I use to be able to see all the things I needed to know right at the top of the screen. Now I have to scroll through most of WeatherUnderground just to get a few different weather inquiries. If you change it back then I will be a returning user. Until then, sorry to say “goodbye”.

READ UPDATE*** These people are manipulating the reviews, getting real bad ones removed and posting fake good ones. If you have followed the progress over the years you’ll see how bad WeatherUnderground has evolved. Especially after the corporate takeover. DONT FALL FOR THE FAKE GOOD REVIEWS. THESE PEOPLE ARE SLIME. ***. Wow, WeatherUnderground went downhill fast on latest update. If you are still on version 5 DO NOT update to this garbage! Premium used to be $4 yearly and now is now $4 monthly. LOL Are you kidding me?! iPad is portrait mode only now, no landscape mode. This new and improved UI design is complete trash. Whoever decided this would be the direction to go is completely out of touch and clueless. Read the many many bad UI 6.xx reviews and decide for yourself. Devs totally destroyed what was the best most useful app on the market. Even if they reinstated the older version I doubt I’ll be back. Simply because I was midway through my old subscription. After this update my subscription was canceled and the only option was to pay the current price for 1 year. Sorry, no longer remotely interested in this shady operation. It’s not even 1 Star worthy anymore.

Here’s a note I wrote to WU Support: “So let me see if I have this correct ... I supply you with free data for your web and app based products. In addition to the free data, I pay for and maintain an expensive hardware/software system and pay for the bandwidth to get it to you. Then you want to charge me to see that data in an incomplete mobile app that has ads ... that has been previously free to me as a station owner. Which is especially galling after you have essentially abandoned all support for the webcam component in the latest integration of the mobile app … and soon on the website! That webcam wasn’t cheap either. Seems to me that you are biting the hand that feeds you. The Wunderground community of station owners are the heart of your business model. We are your business partners. What would happen if a majority of us decided to stop sending our data? Please honor your previous commitment to us as station owners and restore free access to the mobile app. And add back in the ability to see a stations webcam as one of the components.” Time to take my business and data elsewhere.

Finding a new weather station, changing layers, running conditions removed. Where did they all go. Weather underground appears to have sold out.
When WeatherUnderground first change it was not user friendly and hard to navigate and find the previously used features. I use WeatherUnderground several times everyday as I live on the coast and things can be very different with time or location. I have always trusted WU and recommend it to anyone I can. It has helped me run out a storm on the way to a boat landing many times.
Unfortunately, the other features that were lost are quite missed. There is no longer hurricane info or am I able to add those layers during Hurricane season.
There is also a glitch with your current location. It stays on previous locations even after shutting phone down. You can’t change it because you can’t pick a station any longer. My husband and I can be looking at WeatherUnderground and see two different things. Its very frustrating. I hope there are plans to make WeatherUnderground better because with the changes it’s not encouraging me to go premium.

Fire the pm and the info xm graphic designer immediately. This decision was terrible I can appreciate new looks and fresh ideas. I also know you can’t please everyone but this shouldn’t have gotten any further than the first revision. This used nothing of the phone’s physical size or attributes to make some guy or reading easy. I can’t glance at a day. Now I have to work to see the information. I even thought ok I don’t line this but I will give it the benefit of the doubt. I slide to find temp, I figure out the time and how disconnected it now is. Then I try to determine the windiest part of that day. The time and speed feel like they are on opposite ends of the screen., worse the time slide starts moving it took me roughly 20 seconds to figure out and not exactly what the wind speed might be, might be. 20 seconds. Disappointing and dismal my favorite app on my phone you dissected and disemboweled. Harsh words for a harsh job. Truely disappointing. I can see by the length of others you have really gone off the deep end. I never see reviews and have never really provided a lengthy review as such.

I have five other weather apps, this use to be the best and it would notify me way before the other apps with sever weather but, not anymore.. I have to watch the weather very closely due to all the extreme outdoor activities I’m involved in and WeatherUnderground could get you killed in the backcountry with the failed information they provide. I gave it two stars because it has a map that works... that’s about it. The radar is very sketchy and does not pick up everything compared to the other apps. It’s approx 90% wrong all the time anymore with the forecast and accumulation. Seriously if you do outdoor activities where your extremely far from any help, please do not trust WeatherUnderground! Weatherbug is crushing WeatherUnderground with the exact forecast. Weather underground said it was going to rain yesterday. Never dribbled a drop.. even though the radar showed it was which makes no sense.... I think you need some new programmers and developers because you turned WeatherUnderground into a pile of compost.

I’ve been using wunderground as my main weather app for years and it’s been awesome but over the last few months I’ve been having more and more accuracy issues and often finding people using NOAA or even the stock apple weather app are having better results when it comes to forecasts. Considering I don’t need a weather app that tells me what’s going on currently, because I can see, that makes it pretty useless. Then there’s this update they recently made to WeatherUnderground and oh my god it’s awful. There used to be a way to just open the map and select any weather station. Very convenient. Not any more. They’ve shifted the data into a hard to read, visually appealing, but not very informative graph layout. There’s not much to love about the new layout. So instead I’ve made the switch to PredictWind for wind forecasts (stupidly accurate and filled with cool tools)and I’m trying darkskys out as a general weather app. Good luck and don’t bother with whnderground until they go back to being a weather nerds easy playground.

…it amazes me in all the wrong ways. Seriously, it used to be so good. They’ve leveraged off thousands of users’ goodwill to share their personal weather data so it could be packaged into a valuable resource - especially in places where traditional forecasting does poorly, unfortunately, since IBM/TWC took over, even the most simple functionality has taken a dive. App doesn’t update efficiently, stations don’t show up to date information (or any information), location information is wrong (WeatherUnderground think’s I’ve been in the middle of the South Pacific for the past several days, while stating in the title I’m in the middle of Oregon) even with app restarts, phone reboots, and even uninstalling/reinstalling, WeatherUnderground maintains its delusion. If this was a new company building its user base and database, I could cut them some slack, but it’s not. It used to just work (for the user, anyway). I’m sure it didn’t work for the bottom line and I’m ok with IBM figuring out how to make it profitable, but don’t break all the functionality in the process - because that’ll only ensure it never becomes profitable.

I have really enjoyed WeatherUnderground
For several years but in the last month or so, most of the weather stations on my list appear with /two dashes inside a circle/ which means the weather info is not available. WeatherUnderground used to be really reliable and there are two weather stations located within a mile of my house in an area of NorthernCalifornia with many microclimates which was so helpful because we are usually a 10 degree difference here than in town. Even the weather station in town shows up “unavailable” these days. As do the weather stations near the coast, 2+ hours inland at my parents place, my friends in Southern California… there seems to be no logical (to an un-sciencey person like myself) explanation or pattern. Needless to say, I’m bummed. I don’t know of another app that people can check the weather of such specific coordinates. I have been checking for app updates almost daily, hoping that one will pop up that will allow me to use WeatherUnderground reliably again. Am I the only one experiencing this? Is there hope?

I’ve been a WU subscriber for years. Like most people in the reviews, I was also disappointed at the big update about a year ago. Unfortunately, there still wasn’t a weather app that gave the amount of information I wanted, so I have still been using WU. Recently though, when I open WeatherUnderground , it won’t even display the temperature or any current weather info. Instead everything is appears with dashes in place of metrics saying that the information is temporarily unavailable. The website also states that premium subscriptions come with 24-hour future radar, which I don’t see anywhere in WeatherUnderground . The radar stops at the current time still. I wish that they kept the feature of being able to report the current weather condition where you are, because often when it is lightly raining or spritzing outside (enough for umbrellas) WeatherUnderground doesn’t pick that up and says it’s not raining. That type of weather was usually picked up by local reports from people on their current weather conditions. Now it’s just as useless as the other apps.

I’ve been a paying customer of Weather Underground for years, and the things I used to like about WeatherUnderground were how easy it was to read large amounts of data from local stations at once, and how they translated among views. When IBM acquired Wunderground and redesigned WeatherUnderground to be “sleeker,” they utterly destroyed that ease of use by oversimplification. Everything is in one continuous column except the subviews, so you see less at once. Scales on graphs are arbitrary and not marked on the main view. No more scrubbing flag on the conditions-over-time graph unless you enter the detailed view. No more precipitation graph in the widget, which hasn’t been updated for the new iOS 14 widget framework. Everything in WeatherUnderground feels worse and less helpful after the redesign, and never improved. It all still works, and you still get local weather station data, but it will never be as joyfully easy to read as the pre-IBM app, and that is a shame. The data here is still good, but it’s just nowhere near what it used to be before 2018.

I was a WU fan for years before the complete redesign a couple years ago. I eventually abandoned the service and began a quest to find something else that was as good for my purposes. I used to love the easy-to-understand, multi-day temp, precip chance graph format. The old design was summarily eliminated for a useless but colorful and “pretty” new design that just didn’t convey the same info. I was one of the frustrated users who left a one star review and went away, begrudgingly.
Well, I was happy to see a move back toward the old format in the current app. I can now see several days of temp and precip trends at a glance. It’s a true step forward (or “backward” in a positive way). The first “speedometer-style” graphic is still pretty useless to me, but I just scroll down a bit for the old-school WU goodness. Thanks, app developers, for listening and considering the merits of WU’s tried and true formats. I’m back now. stars if the upgrade was more reasonably priced. $3.99/mo or $20/yr seems overpriced. I would personally find fair value at $2/mo or $12/yr.

Due to the negative reviews, I was scared to update, and didn’t do so until today only because the old version was no longer supported. And I must say that I am a bit confused as to what all the fuss is about. I think this new version is just fine. Sure, there are some little hiccups, such as the daily details and graph not being fully displayed without clicking on “more” and the seemingly more prevalent appearance of ads. But first off, those are very minor things, and second, this is a big change for WeatherUnderground and developing team, so there’s obviously going to be some kinks to work out. And there are some features I LIKE about WeatherUnderground; it appears and behaves a lot cleaner, and I kind of like the design better. But that’s just my personal opinion. And let’s not forget that while the interface is different, the data being reported is still the same. You still get accurate, hyper-local forecasts that are hard to beat, and for free, no less.

I don’t know who these people are writing the negative reviews, or why. Maybe they’re really into weather and used the old app more features more extensively. But I can say as an average person who just wants to see the daily weather, it is still a great app.

I’m one of the many, many people who loved the old WU app and HATED version 6. It was such a major downgrade that I switched to a different app and checked back periodically to see if they’d undone the awfulness.

*Note* I had left a scathing review with no cursing or other inappropriate content, but my original review appears to have mysteriously disappeared. Very suspicious.

Anyways, the most recent update is definitely a step in the right direction. The line graph showing temperature and precipitation chances is taller now (like it was on the old WU) so you can actually see it now. And it’s nice that you can tap on the graph and see more detailed versions (maybe the only good thing to come with v.6). Also, I like that this version lets you pick what app icon you want—more apps should do that. Anyways, I still miss the original, but at least they’ve improved.

the professionalism of the umbrella corporation who owns WU. What a huge difference between the old WU and this new version. It is easy to see what the weather is now and what’s forecast and so far it has been quite accurate. The hourly forecast is a big plus so you know what to expect when going out to shovel or blow snow, or actually determine what time is best to go do that. The daily is also handy so you know what’s coming longer timeframe, like maybe seeing that you might be wasting your time blowing snow now if it’s going to be crappy later on today or tomorrow. Very nice to know those things! I find myself going more and more to WU and finally paid the few bucks to not see the ads - why are ads so, well, a pain in the keester. All in all, this has become a great app and now includes quite a few interesting sidelines. Even the icon is iconic!

I love WeatherUnderground and use it on a daily basis. The information is current and WeatherUnderground performance has been nearly flawless. The only issue I’ve run into has been when trying to create a custom smart forecast. WeatherUnderground always crashes completely. I’ve tried it on two separate devices running different versions of iOS with the same results. The custom forecast I’ve been trying to create includes wind speed, rain, and wind gusts (though I don’t know if that is an option since WeatherUnderground always crashes before I get that far). Obviously a smart forecast is more of a luxury feature and I can find all of that information individually within WeatherUnderground so I don’t think it’s worth deducting a star for anything, but it is a nice feature that I hope to be able to use in the future whenever the bug(s) get worked out a bit more. Other than that minor gripe WeatherUnderground has been flawless. Thank you!

I used to rely on WeatherUnderground every day and recommend it to friends and family. I do project management for software development, and though I don't pretend to know how to design or build weather apps for iOS, I can say that I personally find WeatherUnderground unusable after a recent UI redesign. The data it presents on launch is too simple to be useful, and the data it shows when a user clicks is so complex it's hard to understand. For example, why does a map with *zero* weather information take up half the main screen? I have to click on the map for weather info, and in the meantime, I am staring at an empty map. Where is the daily precipitation data that I used to check before deciding whether to bring an umbrella to work? It is now buried in a submenu that reveals lots of confusing graphs when I click. Who among us has the luxury of time to contemplate complex graphs while running out the door to school or work? If I were retired or anticipating a hurricane, perhaps I would make time to explore this probably very fascinating weather data. Still, when all else fails, I can consult the daily written forecast summary... except that it's gone forever. I miss the old Weather Underground and can't wait to find my new favorite weather app.

I have been getting more and more frustrated with the weather apps as time goes on, but this recent update is about the last straw for WU in my opinion. I work outside for a living, and I don’t want to be wasting time digging through different tabs to find out we might get an inch of snow tonight. I miss the other hourly/daily weather-at-a-glance bar which was pretty much the first thing you saw, with rainfall/snowfall amounts listed. Stop making changes for just the sake of changes. I don’t care if it’s pretty (and I don’t care for the giant add section that ironically says “weather matters” right now, making me need to scroll even further down for pointless info), I just want sensible functionality. The only thing keeping me from deleting WeatherUnderground right now is the fact that the developer responded to another’s review saying certain features were not yet ready in time for this update, so stay tuned. I will “stay tuned” to see, but I am not holding my breath. And for the future, I would opine that if certain important features are not yet ready for an update, don’t push out a shoddy update and tell us to hang on until the next installment. Your deadlines for updates are pointless if you are screwing your users.

Like every other recent reviewer, I’m writing to say that the December 2019 update has totally screwed up the functionality of this once-terrific app. Seeing a day’s weather forecast used to be simple: an easy glance at the phone and maybe a couple of taps to see when the rain would hit, and then I was on my way. Now the UI is confusing, involving way too much navigation to find anything useful, and when I do finally find something approximating the hourly forecast I have to use a stupid slider to figure out what the weather will do at any given time - MUCH harder than being able to simply LOOK at the straightforward graphic of the previous version. And btw, where the heck is the easy-to-access map showing the weather stations and the current radar, etc?

Needless to say I’m very disappointed, and I will not be using WeatherUnderground anymore. And I’m wondering if some of the other reviewers were right, that WeatherUnderground was bought and then intentionally screwed up by the Weather Channel folks, either to drive people away from it (and presumably toward their own TWC branded app?), or to make people spend more time finding the info they need and thus increase app usage and getting more adds in front of people’s eyeballs.

Years ago my favorite weather app was The Weather Channel Premium. They charged a one time fee and had an excellent add free layout that made it easy to see everything. Then someone there decided to go the greedy route. They killed their premium app and tried to force those users over to their horribly designed regular app. Even if you paid for the overpriced subscription to get rid of advertising you were still left with an app full of videos and tons of scrolling to find menus to get to submenus to finally see what used to be easy to find in the premium app. The Weather Channel lost a lot of users with that lame move. Myself included. I finally found Weather Underground as a replacement. It WAS a great app. Now it seems your team has caught the same disease (greed) as the Weather Channel team. Your new app is a HUGE step backward in just about every way. Never mind that once again I either am forced to pay a recurring subscription or suffer the stupid ads. Who are you geniuses who think every consumer wants to pay dozens of subscriptions for everything? Anyhow, I know you won’t go back to what you had that WAS great. Companies that go this route never correct course. So, goodbye Weather Underground. Was nice while it lasted.

The whole new UI just feels like someone took an essay and made it all double spaced and added some useless graphics in some weird attempt to fill out more pages.

Like a lot of other people this has been my favorite weather app for years. However now I guess I’ll have to find something else. The new UI update is terrible, way over complicated. It hides everything under multiple menus and clicks now. The info that’s prominent used to be what I found to be relevant when I checked WeatherUnderground , now it’s lots of stuff that is less relevant while the important stuff requires digging.
The extended forecast is now physically stretched and expanded so it is much hard to actually get a good idea of storm start and stop times. It requires scrolling just to see 3 or so days of forecast. And to get to the summary page it’s buried in multiple clicks and even then it’s now a full page but it has no more info so it only takes up like 25% of the page with actual info, the rest is blank space and ads and I’m not opposed to ads or even paying a premium if the product was superior. This is now an inferior product with no apparent reason for being neutered, it’s not even like there are more ads or more content. They just kneecapped themselves for no apparent reason.

Rarely I feel the desire to write a review, but the last few updates for WeatherUnderground have left me so frustrated that I have to write about it. Wunderground used to be my go to App to check the weather. It was easy to check the weather a couple of days in advanced (I believe up to 15 days ahead if I’m not mistaken), which is very handy when you’re planing a trip. It was easy to find a precipitation probability hour by hour and most importantly WeatherUnderground used to load every single time that I needed to use it. Even though I have to admit that most of the “cosmetics” changes done to WeatherUnderground during recent updates make it more appealing to the eye and modern, I have to concur with most of the recent reviews of other users about all the bugs that have made WeatherUnderground useless. I mean, who wants to have to delete and download again and again an App every single time you want to use it in order for it to just open? That is exactly what I have encountered the last couple of times I have tried to open WeatherUnderground and it keeps getting on a never ending loop of loading 🤦🏻‍♀️! When I saw a new update this morning I immediately downloaded it, just to find out that this issue was not solved yet, so now I am forced to delete WeatherUnderground because I’m not doing this process over and over again to be able to used it.

I have now lost count of how many amazing weather apps I have deleted because The Weather Channel bought them and ruined them. (You can almost bet like clockwork that any useful, popular weather app will be gobbled up by TWC Corp fairly quickly and “updated” to a version that no one wants to use.) “Can’t beat them, buy them” seems to be their new corporate strategy (instead of working on their own product to make it better). Also, privacy has become a real concern for this corporation. They want access to EVERY sensor in your device at ALL times. They not only can track your location at all times, they can tell whether you are indoors or out (or in an automobile or out) with the pressure sensors, etc etc. I’m not a tinfoil hat guy, but this is a little too intrusive for even me.

Weather Underground WAS amazing. It was about the only app I could find with hyper-local information, including total rainfall amounts for the current day and the day before. Also had TONS of information readily available without any side-scrolling. It’s why I subscribed to the year-long ad-free version which has disappeared magically with this new update and cannot be restored. Now they want 10X the subscription fee for less functionality? No, thanks. I’ll pass. And so will others. (Which I now think was their intended goal all along.)

Weather Underground was my favorite weather app that I relied on daily. Like others have mentioned, the latest update has been a step in the wrong direction. Some of the key features that made WeatherUnderground stand out are no longer available. First, you can no longer pick a station from a map. You are able to pick a station from a list, but seeing the stations on a map adds the obvious benefit of knowing where the stations are. Next, the 10-day forecast no longer shows precipitation accumulation and wind speed/direction for each day. This info is available in the hourly forecast, but it is not practical to dive into hourly data for answering the simple question of “how much might it rain tomorrow?” or “what direction will the wind be blowing on Tuesday?” Lastly, there used to be a nice feature that displayed a quick sentence about today’s weather relative to yesterday. For example “Today is forecast to be much warmer than yesterday.” This was a quick and concise feature that I used to simply figure out what to wear for the day. That feature is no longer available.

I loved WeatherUnderground. I’m willing to stick it out for another couple months to see what fixes and additions the developers release. In the meantime, I’ll be searching around for other apps that provide the features of the “old” Weather Underground.

My weather station is the source for the downtown of my city and a huge recreation and pool complex, a source of pride. The profit of this has been a premium subscription to WeatherUnderground. With the seemingly slow but substantial downgrade of WeatherUnderground I will no longer contribute my data to be profited on as that deal is now too degraded. With all the complaints about ads getting worse (I don’t see ads)it is apparent that the only reason for this is pure profit off USER contributed data because nothing else is an “improvement” or a “new! exiting! premium feature!”.
Ever since the last merger someone seems intent on destroying this brands LOYAL following for more profit. Premium! job done. I would hope other weather data contributors will consider for themselves if they are happy with how WeatherUnderground has changed and if they feel if and if they want THEIR data to be this companies profit and to consider the sources that can be contributed to when purchasing a weather station. Unfortunately mine is only WU and unless something changes this will be the first factor I consider when it’s time to replace mine (no more AcuRite). What can IBM Watson do for you?

The latest release has a UI redesign that essentially renders WeatherUnderground useless and makes it impossible to use and find information. What was once a streamlined look at temp, location, map, wind, severe weather warnings, etc all at once on the home screen is now a huge weird dial looking thing for temp (why does it have to be so big? Can’t you make it smaller and add the map/location back?) and a map with no location marker that you have to scroll down to see. You must scroll even further to see the weekly which used to be much easier to access and now the information is expanded and impossible to get quick information from for the hourly. The worst of it is that the severe weather warning has been moved to the top next to an ad and now even LOOKS like an ad so it’s possible users won’t get accurate information about perilous situations. It also appears that the forecast for various activities has been removed. This redesign renders WeatherUnderground unusable, don’t update if you can avoid it. Clearly also not tested on iPhone 8 because text is clumped together in locations. I am on the verge of uninstalling this if there isn’t a roll back or much better replacement soon.

Wow. I’ve Rafael’s seen an example of an update for updates sake as bad as this one. Some examples: With the previous design, it was easy to see current conditions at a glance based on the color of the circle around the temperature. The gradient imagery in the new version forces you to look harder for the visual cues. Same goes for the forecast view. In the previous version the red dot let you easily see where you were time-wise in the day. It’s much more difficult to see the break between the gray and red in the line in the current version. Removing the temperature labels on the daily forecast reduces the utility of the graph to just showing variation throughout the day rather than a visual representation of the actual temperature as before. The detail view attempts to make up for this, but the way the chart labels jump around is annoying, and puts them in the way of the chart lines you’re trying to view. I’m also disappointed that they removed the landscape view in the iPad version. Maybe I’m in the minority, but I use WeatherUnderground more on my iPad, so the corner-cutting in this version is very disappointing.

I really like that WeatherUnderground is based on real, local weather data, but the new version makes it significantly more work to view the data. I wish I could revert to the old version.

I have used the WU app on my iPhone and been a paying subscriber for years (since before TWC bought WU). I downloaded WeatherUnderground for my Dad and thought I had selected the wrong app. Then I updated WeatherUnderground on my phone and discovered your update and can say that your latest major revision ruined the best weather app in WeatherUnderground Store. The latest “improvements” sacrificed usefulness for looks. You use to be able to see all the information you need on the main screen. Now it’s buried under layers of crap. You could search all the nearby personal weather stations, and view their specific location, and specs. Now only some of the local stations appear, and it’s a major undertaking to find those. If some of them hadn’t been in my favorites, I wouldn’t be able to view them anymore, because they don’t show up when you search, or in the map. You removed the option to use the NWS forecast, which I preferred, since I’m relatively certain there’s no little man in my app making adjustments to the forecast for my CWA based on personal knowledge and understanding of the weather patterns in my area. WU as a whole has been pretty much destroyed since TWC bought it way back when. I’ve been a paying subscriber for years, but you’ve finally succeeded in driving me away from all TWC products.

I almost never write reviews, especially if I’m happy with something already. However, I’m quite displeased with the redesign of the UI in the most recent app release. I can no longer scan the hourly precipitation because 1.) you removed the hours from that part of the UI, 2.) you removed the precipitation percentage that correlated with each hour. Now instead you’ve implemented this stupid bar you’ve got to drag across the screen to see what percent of rain is happening at a particular hour. Problem with that is that the bar is quite thin and can take two or three attempts before you actually tap and hold on the right spot — super annoying. The other issue is that it now takes me longer to get this information than the scanning I used to have to do. Furthermore you’ve made the weather icons above the precipitation/temp bar larger so they are taking up more space than before. Although you did add a second weather icon for each day, I’m still on the fence about that. Also I really liked the feature where it would detail weather it was a good day for mountain biking, but that appears to be gone and I have yet to find it. Maybe I’ll find it, but probably not as I think I’m done using WeatherUnderground. Time to find one with a better more usable UI. Farewell and wish your team the best!

I’d like to know what kind of team at the weather channel thought WeatherUnderground was ready to be pushed out to their many thousands of users. I am a paying customer, so when I open my favorite weather app and see giant ads plastered all over WeatherUnderground , I take pause and wonder why. I tried to restore my purchase from the settings page, and there is “nothing to restore”... I’ll give TWC the benefit of the doubt, maybe it’s just a coincidence and my annual subscription has run out. Well, I’m not about to pay again to find out because with the recent update I no longer feel that WeatherUnderground is something worth supporting. The developers have taken a product that was nearly perfect, I mean a *really* good weather app, and made it just so disappointing. The previous layout that showed temperature and a small map when you first opened WeatherUnderground was great! Why on earth separate them? And why doesn’t the map show my location anymore??? That was an awesome feature... very useful to see exactly where I am in relation to rain. TWC messes with perfection, making changes for the sake of nothing more than making changes. The changes were not necessary and I’m beginning my search for a better weather app right now. I had been a customer for many years, but this this poorly executed “upgrade” has me fired up enough to drop wunderground completely.

I work in construction and having an accurate and detailed weather app is an essential tool in getting work done. Weather underground has since gone to the wind after some of the most useful features, as well as basic features, have been omitted.
1. Your location can no longer be seen on the map. This makes it hard to see how long we have to work until it’s supposed to rain, which allows us to gauge when we need to pack up our materials and tools so they don’t get wet.
2. Since there are many different locations where we work, finding a local station and accessing the forecast for that location is now substantially more difficult. On the overview map there used to be a feature where you could tap on a station and there was a prompt to “go to weather station”, which made it easy to view the forecast for that area. This feature has since been removed, making it more difficult to view the location where we plan to travel to work to see if weather would effect our work day.
In totality, weather underground used to be an amazing and useful tool, but has since been considered just another app that has diminished to subpar features compared to its previous version. Its very disappointing to see because it used to be the pinnacle of weather apps, and now it is reduced to being just another weather app.

Weather Underground A great mistake, consumer side For months WeatherUnderGround, aka WUG, will not allow me to login, logon. When I am allowed to, the WUG still does not allow access to its app, just a blank page. So I have been trying to get WUG to assist in providing a link to a removal of WUG app. I have no longer been nice and polite in my replies to them, as deaf ears, and a copy and paste reply, (to be seen below), is the pat answer. The WUG used to be good. Now I am not allowed on three machines to login to WUG. Even when I do, it does not work. I have requested from WUG a link to remove their APP. They ignored them until I posted a less than nice review. In the last few days, I state what I want, and they sent back, “If we do not hear from you in 90 days, you will need to ask again as we will turn off you request”, paraphrased. Now they have a new nonsensical useless answer, reply. Hi, Tony! Thank you for reaching out. We do not have any control over your Air. What exactly do you want to do? So far as I can tell, you are using Weather Underground via a web browser. Are you trying to remove that data from within your web browser? Thank you! —Victoria And I can still not get from WUG a link or directions to remove their app from two MacBooks, or my iPhone. I suggest you all Do Not Use, or Add to your machines! I am going to change my ISP, wipe memory, replace my apps, under new AKAs, change my cell number, and do whatever I must do, to get rid of WUG. Thankfully as a retired engineer, debugger, I have the knowledge to do the work needing to be done. I just should not have to do the work. Which includes my investments, retirement accounts, doctors, family, friends, banks, credit unions, financial institutions, and everything that must be done. Sorry for the length, but please do not allow the WUG to get its hooks into your machines.
