Ugh - have paid annual subscription but no service

2022-05-23

I have tried everything. No response. Disappointing. Paid year one got one issue. Year two auto renewed and now can't get an issue without repaying. I am calling Apple and Credit Card for refund. Can not understand the lack of care. Really just want what I paid for...

iPhone app is from 70’s

2022-06-24

While the iPad app is good, only problem I have is that I can’t bookmark, the iPhone app is terrible. I actually open it and close it back because it’s not been updated for iPhone X. Please fix the iPhone app and picking up where you left off is not syncing well between my iPad Pro and iPhone X. That’s where bookmarking would have helped but like I said, I can only do this on the iPhone which I don’t do because MacLifeMagazine is terrible. I just started subscribing and hope experience of iPhone app is better soon.

Poor customer service-get print edition

2022-07-25

If there are any problems, customer service is non existent. Like others say, content is good but app is poorly executed and limited. Codes for "reward" downloads don't work. The print edition is easier to use/read, but unfortunately you still have to deal with the non existent customer service.

Needless to say I will not be renewing.

Terrible app experience

2022-08-26

Good content, assuming you can get access to it. I've downloaded issues and had them disappear numerous times. The magazine downloader is crap and takes an insane amount of time. If I could export the issues I paid for to iBooks I'd be so much happier, having to deal with MacLifeMagazine can be a hair pulling experience.

App doesn’t work, Apple says not eligible for refund.

2022-09-27

I ordered multiple magazines and that seems to be the only part of MacLifeMagazine that works. Library does not show purchases mags, store shows items already purchased, got every error message possible trying to make it work, troubleshooting steps didn’t work and to top it off, Apple support says none of the orders are eligible for a refund. App doesn’t work, no support from a real person and money was taken. Nice app Mac Life.

App difficult to use and no customer support

2022-10-28

I am missing back issue, one I really need and call plus email to support yields no results. I would say find another avenue for MacLife, this is annoying. The font is too small and cannot be changed. You can’t even expand something. The scroll is annoying. Not book or magazine like. Extremely disappointed and won’t be renewing. Even though they start hounding you after half the subscription saying you should renew.

Crashes

2022-11-29

For some reason MacLifeMagazine crashes when I click on the icon to read my issue. Hopefully they can fix it or I will be forced to cancel my subscription.

Whatever you do not purchase any magazines from MacLifeMagazine because you can not read what you have purchased.

Doesn’t work very well with Apple products (really?!?)

2022-12-30

MacLife is permanently locked in portrait mode when you read individual issues. This is by design and, of course, makes NO SENSE. (Every other iPad magazine subscription I have rotates to both landscape and portrait modes.). It’s as if the MacLife app creators have never actually used an iPad.

Lately, MacLifeMagazine has been failing to open for days at a time. And when it finally does, it has a large black border around it and a much smaller image - sort of like a letterboxed image. This is not a problem with my iPad as the MacLife app is the only one that exhibits this issue.

Content-wise, maybe 1 out of every 10 articles had something useful. Everything else was pretty basic.

So after subscribing for 6 months, I have canceled my subscription. If I could give ZERO stars, I would. In my opinion, MacLifeMagazine is not worth the money.

Latest update useless

2023-01-31

Updated 6.6 app is now broken. No landscape mode, can not auto or manual archive issues, view about 70% of screen. Forced to use apple news plus, so most of the advanced features and automation is lost. It’s possible ill not renew my subscription and stick only with the news + version till this is fixed.

Love the magazine. App not so much

2023-03-04

Have had to Uninstall Reinstall on my iPad several times because an issue would just plain old not download. It is slow too. I will not renew subscription via My Favourite Magazines if I have to use MacLifeMagazine only. There are other ways to read the magazine digitally.

Good content, but lackluster iPhone app

2023-04-02

Had MacLifeMagazine on the iPad and it was literally a work of art. Was forced to use the iPhone version after the iPad died, and it doesn’t even feel like it could be from the same company. Not only is the experience subpar from the iPad app, but it’s not even formatted for the iPhone X after a year of being out!

Sometimes good, other times not so much.....

2023-05-04

I love the MacLife content, but sometimes I need page numbers from the magazine and can't find them. Also, I paid for a subscription and don't really like the prompts to purchase other magazine subscriptions. I expect that from a free app, not one I already pay for.

Content good but hard to view

2023-06-04

I enjoy the content of the magazine but wish I could view it full screen and would be even better if it allowed landscape view. Portrait mode used to be full screen but now has a large black border making it smaller and harder to read. Please make it more user friendly and allow us to enlarge the picture, print and ability to view in portrait mode. You might sell more prescriptions if you made your digital subscription easier to read by those of us over 40.

Content, great. Delivery, meh.

2023-07-06

I have enjoyed the content of this magazine since it was MacAddict and print only. The content has in fact improved tremendously in the last year. However, the digital delivery system has been wonky from the start. Issues download very slowly (in contrast, Consumer Reports downloads in a blink). Now, despite having a subscription, it doesn’t show me as a subscriber (it does in iTunes), won’t restore purchases / download my magazines of which I now have none because FAQs recommended deleting and reinstalling MacLifeMagazine . Of course, Support is very hard to get a hold of because there isn’t a fast lane for the technically savvy. Answer TBD....

Problem with iPad OS

2023-08-06

App screen shot doesn’t fit the screen properly(is shifted to the right, partially off screen), have to scroll to to right to see the whole page and would be nice to have landscape mode as well.

Mac Life / for Mac Computer Desktop

2023-09-07

This is pretty good but I gave this application a 4-Star only because it’s not made for my Mac Desktop computer which I really wanted!

Looks (AND WORKS) FANTASTICALLY On My iPad Pro

2023-10-09

MacLife was the one magazine I would still buy in print form in the grocery store, as I really like the content and look. But, for less than the cost of two print issues (which is still true, I think), I can get an entire year. And, with the Retina display on the large iPad Pro, it seems to actually look BETTER than the print version. And, of course, there’s also all the capabilities that come with an “active” publication (like links and such).

Plus: I have ABSOLUTELY NO CLUE as to where all these other reviewers are getting these problems! They must be using a different app or something! ;) Seriously, though, I’ve actually NEVER had a problem with MacLifeMagazine itself, or with the purchasing of issues! Plus, I’ve just turned 60 years old, with my brain and memory getting worse and worse, and I’ve been able to read issue after issue with (LITERALLY) ZERO problems.

So, MacLifeMagazine is ABSOLUTELY AND VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Great Content

2023-11-09

I love this magazine. It offers timely practical content which enables me to maximize my use of all my apple products.

Informative and concise

2023-12-11

I find the articles in MacLife to be very informative, concise, and well written. When I was moving from the PC world to Apple MacLife was, and still is, a great resource for information. I love the iPad version. MacLifeMagazine is well worth the price.

I love this magazine but very much dislike their technical support

2024-01-11

I have been a lifelong subscriber of MacLife and love the magazine. However, I purchased an issue a bit back and have subsequently upgraded my phone to the new X! All of my issues have loaded back onto my account except the one (mentioned before) that I really need right now.

I have emailed the “support” folks, several times, hoping that they could help and haven’t gotten any answers back.

I’d say get MacLifeMagazine , just hopefully don’t lose any of your purchases as their support staff are nonexistent.

Hopefully they don’t cease production as good luck finding anyone who cares!

Terrible app experience

2024-11-15

Good content, assuming you can get access to it. I've downloaded issues and had them disappear numerous times. The magazine downloader is crap and takes an insane amount of time. If I could export the issues I paid for to iBooks I'd be so much happier, having to deal with MacLifeMagazine can be a hair pulling experience.

It does indeed work, but not immediately understandable.

2024-11-15

Before I downloaded the Tech sample, this program was great. I would have give it 5 stars. At 99 cents an issue it's an incredible value.
I also got stymied after downloading the Tech sample, but the advice from PhotographyWeek on Dec 11 is right on. To call up the navigation menu on the bottom of the screen and then to tap "Store" did indeed work, but the logic is cryptic. Without this advice I would have still been stuck in Tech.

Soooo…. MacLife, I hope you're reading this because cryptic commands have no place in today's iOS devices. Please come up with an obvious solution before you leave many customers angry and "stranded" in a sample.
