Disturbing advertising.

I receive the digital version of the ADN. I was up north for the last month out of internet contact. When I came back very offensive ads were showing up on my ADN feed. These ads were advertising some kind of gaming app with a blow up doll in a rather disgusting position. I tried to delete the adds which some advertisers allow you to do but instead it took me to their web page.

I called the ADN to complain. Nothing had been done about the offensive ad as of yesterday. I do not consider myself easily offended. We do not have young people in our home. No one was in our home while we were away.

Hopefully the ADN will remove these offensive & disrespectful ads & do a better job of screening who & what they allow to be run as ads in their digital copy.

Easy to read online!

I enjoy reading the E edition which looks the same as the print edition. AnchorageDailyNews is easy to use. I lived in Alaska for 30 years but moved Outside for healthcare reasons. I love keeping up with the Alaska News. I read it it cover to cover every day (except Saturday when it is not published). I enjoy that many of the articles are from the Washington Post so I feel like I am getting to read both papers. I love the outdoor articles on Sundays and the book review of Alaska authors. I recommend it especially if the print edition is not available and/or you want to save paper.

As Great as Ever

I have lived in Anchorage a few times over the years and always enjoyed the Anchorage Daily News (ADN) paper. I recently moved back again and wanted to get the paper again. I decided to go with the internet version and the digital version is Great. Like reading the paper version without the paper. Love the coverage of local, statewide, national and international news.
Also enjoy the Sunday comics still as great as ever. Keep up the great work and I will keep reading!!

Good feed

The layout of AnchorageDailyNews is intuitive and easy to scroll through articles of interest. Only downside is that you can’t pinch zoom any photos. After some initial difficulties logging in with the phone app versus the web access it appears to be working well.

This is my hometown newspaper!

Imagine how happy I am to have ADN as my local, hometown newspaper! Alaska is a state like no other and we need a high quality paper that supports first rate news gathering. ADN is that paper, and our family supports local news gathered by dedicated professionals. Thank you, ADN. Support YOUR local news. And yes, AnchorageDailyNews is great, too.

Anchorage daily news.

As a lifelong Alaskan,I love our newspaper the Anchorage Daily News. They continue to have great news stories .This paper owned by a moderate Republican Alaskan family , is always fair in presenting both sides of an issue. I appreciate this. Thank you for keeping me up to date on our Great land State.

Improved Website

Over the years, I called ADN a few times to complain about AnchorageDailyNews and website. Now I want to congratulate ADN for an excellent app and a easy to navigate website for those of us who subscribe to the Anchorage Daily News online.

New online format

While I remain a loyal ADN reader, I wanted to give my two cents on the new format. It’s tough to read the article titles imposed over photographs - even with the white font and drop shadow. They would be clearer to read either above or below the featured photos. Compared to the old format, it feels too busy.

Enjoyable but with an irritant

I enjoy AnchorageDailyNews but when in Live News, after reading an article, AnchorageDailyNews returns to the top of the list of articles. That causes me to have to swipe back down to select the next article. This is not a major issue but it is an irritant.

By

New Format

I love the new format of the ADN. I enjoy browsing through the articles and photos. Other wonderful changes are all the positive and uplifting stories about our state and the amazing people who make up our community.

Easy article viewing but poor interface

I like reading ADN articles on AnchorageDailyNews , but accessing articles that are more than just a couple days old is difficult. The search function only prioritizes very recent material, and i often want to follow up on information while i’m reading stories.

By

Great App

Love the ability to look at the Paper version and pick the items you want to read and have them pop up on your screen. Great for guys like me that always read the paper copies!! Good job!!

Good local news option

News and information is as good as you get for Alaska. It is unbelievable how often you have to sign in though. Technology today should be so much better. It is embarrassing.

ADN app

I really like the new app. Very smooth reading. No going back to Icon frequently and blanking out. My only complaint is I have to go to app and open daily. Then I have to select the e-edition. Not a problem really just slightly annoying. I would prefer to tap the icon and go directly to the e-edition. Thanks, Carol Hoyt

Love the Anchorage Daily News

Liked to read about the Karluk Manor just recently because it didn’t varnish the reality of the housing situation in Anchorage. Would still like to hear more Alaskan news about western and Aleutian living.

In the know

Have been without news paper for a long time. Wanted to know if what was going on in our state Anchorage has filled that need very nicely .

ADN Reporting and E-Edition

Love reading a nonpartisan truth telling publication and having the e-edition makes it convenient to go back to older editions and have the news to read when the snow plower’s hide an occasional issue in the winter snow piles!

By

Love local news

This is a great app to stay up to date with local and national news and find out about local activities

By

Works well

I am traveling, but missed my daily (print) newspaper. AnchorageDailyNews is the next best thing to actually feeling the paper under my hands.

By

Excellent

This is my favorite newspaper app. It brings the complete paper as published, and provides for easy text-only reading. I wish the NYT would use it as well!

Great community service!

Thank you for the coverage & valuable community service.

New format

A million times better than the old one .

New system is erratic.

This new system is terribly erratic. The screen jumps, sizing and location. Also on start up the routing is through AnchorageDailyNews Store, as you must reload AnchorageDailyNews each time to open the newspaper. This is ridiculous.

Love the news, app could use a few tweaks.

I really appreciate ADN, they’re staff, and the vast reporting of Alaskan issues. AnchorageDailyNews is a great way to stay plugged in and I love the push notifications on breaking news.

With that said, there’s a few things that could be tweaked that would make the delivery of the news better:

- currently, and this hasn’t always been a problem, AnchorageDailyNews is pretty frozen. It’s difficult to scroll through the news feed or an article because it lags. I’ve deleted AnchorageDailyNews and re-installed it, but the problem persists.

- whenever I’m in the middle of an article, but leave AnchorageDailyNews , AnchorageDailyNews doesn’t hold my place in the article. It sends sends me back to the home page. This is super annoying! Answering a text or responding to an email, whatever it is, causes me to lose my location. Would love if AnchorageDailyNews just stayed where you leave it instead of sending you home every time.

- sometimes, and it’s not often, the back arrow (when you’re in an article and want to go to the article list screen) doesn’t work. I’ll tap the arrow multiple times and it’s just frozen. So I’ll exit out of AnchorageDailyNews and try to go back in. It usually happens when I’m on AnchorageDailyNews for a while.

- would also be great if the ads that appeared in AnchorageDailyNews were applicable to Alaskans.

Otherwise, it’s a good app, it gets the job done, and I’ll continue supporting the ADN by being a subscriber!

New app

Was simpler before the change. Don’t see the advantage

Need photo captions!

Overall it’s a great app. Look at it several times daily. Has helped keep me updated on local news. And to counter some other reviews, it’s worth the money to keep the journalists, photographers, and editors paid. Support your local news. You used to have to pay for physical newspapers. Pay for it online. FFS.

But, I really wish photo captions showed up. Just looked through another great series from Marc Lester, but none of the captions were showing up. Even after clicking “show more.” Please fix that ADN!

I moved

I moved out of Alaska this summer because of travel restrictions having nothing to do with Covid. I’m 72. I fly back and forth several times a year in my small single engine airplane. Every year there are more unnecessary hurdles. eAPIS, ADSB, border customs on both sides of the border actually thinking they are protecting a border when they are in fact destroying freedom, the scheduling of renewing my AK drivers license which was bizarre and blamed on to covid, the AK Department of Transportation unnecessary demands (not required in CO) about paper work re my biannual physical, all came to a head this year and forced me to sell out and move. The enjoyment did not exceeded the hassle. The State of AK got carried away with crap! I won’t even come back to visit. I’m bitter.

Forced to pay to read articles

I use to be able to read as many articles as I wanted which was hardly due to the lack of new content and after doing a recent update which I hardly ever do, you are now limited to a couple of news articles and then forced to pay to continue reading the news. I would rather deal with advertisements than pay for not the greatest news service for Alaska. This isn’t the NYTimes, the articles are poorly written and at times have misspellings, plus there are never any new news articles, it’s mainly old news that’s been around for the past year. Which is one of the reasons why I hardly ever open AnchorageDailyNews. I will be deleting AnchorageDailyNews and will be sticking with the only other 2 Alaskan news apps.

Second in Anchorage, still good

AnchorageDailyNews is a bit worse then KTUU in interface. However it is also worth installing as the articles are much longer and in-depth. The thing that bothers me is a bit too much national and international news as opposed to local. If you have a national news app installed, all you want from a local news one is local news. However they are fast with national and world news. Sometimes the notifications are faster then on the national news apps, so no star ducked for that!

So far so good

I just installed AnchorageDailyNews and it seems to be working fine on my iPhone. Looks much like the mobile website view, and the information is current. Nothing special, not sure I needed an app to see the same info, but at least it was free. I would gladly pay for an app if I could skip the ads!

Overall Good App

ADN's website is so rich it takes a while to load on a computer. So seeing an app for iPod was nice. Nothing better then having Alaska news on the go. The only gripe I have that I've seen from using AnchorageDailyNews is 2 things. First, when AnchorageDailyNews shows stories, it doesn't say if the story contains photo or not. It would be nice to know. And finally, the reader submitted pics are of low quality. When you select a photo, a small photo loads with poor quality. A good start for an ADN app though. I would recommend AnchorageDailyNews. Fix the issues ADN and you'll get a better review.

Bye bye

it was bad enough that the previous update to AnchorageDailyNews limited your viewing to articles within the past 24-48 hours. This update only lets you read the headlines; if you want to read the article you are required to pay for a subscription. I do understand that newspapers across the country are struggling financially. I choose to purchase my newspapers from a stand, rather than subscribing, to help out the vendor.

I have deleted AnchorageDailyNews from my phone and do not intend to ever add it back on. Thank you to all the previous reviewers for suggesting the amazing KTUU app. They offer a lot more news for a longer period of time. Check out the free KTUU app -- it is MUCH better.

Alaska Reporting

Not just Anchorage, but statewide coverage. News of interest to the circumpolar regions and not necessarily lower 48. With all their financial troubles, it's amazing this state wide paper still can pay for good reporting. Least we can do is support it through AnchorageDailyNews. Buy a digital subscription. Otherwise, local news will be buried and important issues hidden or overlooked. AnchorageDailyNews itself functions as it should, at least on the iOS platform.
