UPDATE 8 Nov 21: Broken w iOS15 - WHEN WILL YOU FIX IT?

Reached out via PodcastPlayer to ask when the paid app would be updated as it was broken. See comment below. All I received was an insult asking me why I expected PodcastPlayer to be continuously updated only after paying the equivalent of one Starbucks coffee. I tried to reach out again but the developer just ignored me. Too bad because he lost a customer willing to pay an annual fee for his app but I guess he likes insulting his customer base more than making money. I’ve deleted his app and moved on to a more polished one, “Overcast” and will never purchase from this developer again.

Love PodcastPlayer , it has been my go to podcast app over even some of the slicker apps for several years now. Unfortunately the upgraded version is broken. I switched to the older version and it works. Please fix the one I paid for, our I guess I’ll switch to Stitch and once I do, honestly, I’ll just stay with them. I know it’s working in the background because when I launch PodcastPlayer , a download pop up displays but PodcastPlayer is stuck w the icon displaying in the middle of a black screen. That’s it. It won’t boot into the full app. It’s been weeks now, I can’t be the only person having this issue. If you have stopped supporting PodcastPlayer , just tell us so we can move on.

Audio quits working

I’ve been using PodcastPlayer daily for years and loved it. For the last month or so I have had a problem almost every day where when listening to podcasts from my playlist when a new podcast starts the audio doesn’t work. This also happened once mid-podcast. I have noticed that this is also true with earbuds, not just my phone’s speaker. I tried everything to fix this including closing PodcastPlayer . The only thing that works is completely restarting my phone. This has become a real pain! I keep hoping there will be an update to fix this, but so far nothing. I may have to find a new podcast app. I see in the reviews that others are having another problem I started having- in my car it will just start playing music from my phone even though the music app isn’t even open and I have a podcast playing.

Small tweaks needed but does the job

New user initial rating. Firstly, thanks for PodcastPlayer and not putting sorting options (categories) behind a paywall. Easy to add podcasts. Great feature that can add them to multiple categories; however, with that option, wish was a way to delete from one list but not the other when deleting a download. When marking an episode as played, would be great if it also deleted the download so wouldn’t have to select twice to do both. Or it could at least ask if also want to delete when marked as played. On the opposite end, when marking as unplayed, asking if also want to download. I’ve found so far that a played episode wasn’t deleted when finished despite having selected to do so. A continuous playlist option would be nice. Lastly, the X2 Playback Speed option is misleading. If you don’t have 2x selected, it only plays at 1.0; however, it seems to imply that can set a speed and it will double what you set. For example, setting to 1.7 and 2x is off, plays at 1.0 or 1.7 when on but makes one think, it would play at 1.7 when off and 3.4 when on. So max play speed is 2.5 only but you have to toggle on 2x to go above 1.0.

Mostly good with some bad

Love the in-app equalizer most of all. Love the ability to import local files into PodcastPlayer . Also useful (but not novel) are the volume boost, silence skip and playback speed. Negatives are no notifications for podcast updates unless PodcastPlayer is open in the background. Love that you can sideload audiobooks to listen with the EQ and speed/silence skip but dislike that you have to use a 3rd party app to do so. The import folder is nested and MacOS Finder can only access the root folder, not nested ones.

Recent builds have a pretty bad battery drain and problems with pausing playback for no reason. It will be 5 stars if the bugs get ironed out.

Love, but slight bugs

Love PodcastPlayer , I've been using it for years. I've noticed in recent updates, however, that when I have 2x speed turned on while an episode is playing (I have it set at 1.1x speed when I have that setting turned on), the speed will actually jump between 1.2x and 1.5x, making the episode play at a faster rate than what I actually have set. There are other times where my speed settings won't save altogether and the 1x and 2x settings are stuck at the default. I also have issues with episodes I've listened to either being marked as blue instead of green or not clearing out of my queue/archive once played and remaining saved from the last place I paused the episode. I have a workaround for now by manually fixing it, but it's a pain having to do it constantly. I've tried closing and reopening PodcastPlayer to refresh it and I've even uninstalled, redownloaded and updated with today's newest update but I'm still seeing these issues.

Great App, but now with ads

I have used PodcastPlayer for years. It reliably manages over 30 podcasts and allows you to sort them into multiple categories, but the best feature is its queueing functions. It’s able to auto-queue podcasts that you regularly listen to when they come out and allows for easily adding and reordering podcasts in the queue.

My only concern is with the addition of advertising. I don’t like it and would be willing to pay not to have it. However, if it is here to stay, they’re going to have to fix how it works in landscape mode. I use RSS Radio regularly while driving, but the addition of advertising has resulted in icons too small to interact with safely while driving. If not addressed, this will be a dealbreaker for me as my state only allows for the use of a phone in a holder with basic touches.

Well worth paying for the full version

I was just looking for a new podcast app that would let me skip back and forward a few seconds over a Bluetooth connection (which the Apple app strangely doesn't allow). I chose PodcastPlayer since it had a free version and I ended up getting so much more! I love all the customization options for each podcast and the fact that I can finally select all episodes when editing (another feature missing from the Apple app). So happy with it after a few days that I had to purchase to support the devs. One request I'd make is a filter for listened episodes so I can select them all and archive them. Thanks for the great app!

Great for Banned Podcasts!!!

If you have an app that doesnt allow for manually importing an RSS feed - thats censorship. And you should seriously ask yourself why they are doing it. I downloaded PodcastPlayer so I could add Infowars to my feed, since Silicon Valley has united to block his speech on just about every platform. Very happy with PodcastPlayer and it works well for all my business and investing feeds as well. I really like that it works even when I turn the screen off, saving battery life. If youre tired of mommy and daddy tech deciding what you should see and hear, fight censorship and ditch your other podcast app!

Outstanding for Podcasts

I’ve used PodcastPlayer for 9 years after an Apple software update knocked out my Podcasts. I like how one can organize podcasts in categories (i.e., football, news, politics…). Custom rewind and fast forward buttons, sleep timer settings, etc.). Never had any troubles with stability or updates.

My only complaint is that I can’t find a way to mark a podcast as unplayed. I was working my way through a series and accidentally marked all of “played” so it harder to find my place now. A quick “edit, mark unplayed “ feature would be convenient.

Still my favorite podcast app after many years

PodcastPlayer, for me, is still the best I’ve used. It stopped working in my cars a year or two ago and I had to switch to Stitcher, which worked but I hated it. When they screwed it up entirely I decided to try PodcastPlayer again, and I’m glad I did. It’s well organized, allows customization, and is relatively easy to manage podcasts and downloads. And it starts playing in my car as soon as Bluetooth connects. Whatever you fixed, thank you. I’m a cheapskate and have never paid for an app, but I might do so for this one because I use it so often and it works well for me.

The perfect app

For a long time, I was looking for a podcast app that had shuffle as a feature. Someone tipped me off to this one. I doubt I'll ever change apps again. PodcastPlayer just works. The design makes sense, it's stable, it has every feature I've ever desired--I hiiiiiighly recommend as both an alternative to the default Podcasts app and as an alternative to most of the other podcasting apps out there. In fact, I like it so much I found the designer's Patreon and contribute a little each month--it gives me enough value that I want to help keep it stable for a long time. Just really well done. My favorite app on my phone.

Not perfect. Does what it does very well.

Always torn between rating accurate (4 out of 5) and pulling down that score, or giving a perfect 5 out of 5 for a non-perfect app that does not deserve to have the rating pulled down.
The organization system of the settings of PodcastPlayer is far more confusing than it needs to be. Customizing the categories (or not) is weird in that some settings are in the main menu and some are buried under per category settings which may or may not be turned off. Also some of the wording on the settings is left ambiguous and could use some further info or descriptions to explain what it is for. It is nice having a straightforward RSS based podcast app that supports video, those have become increasingly rare. The search function for finding new podcasts could use a LOT of work, as it generally seems to require exact phrases and words that appear out of order cannot be found (and other similar strange programming related bugs). All in all one of the best apps that does what it does, generally only falling short to audio-only podcast apps.

The #1 podcast application

I have been using RSS radio for years. This is a far superior way to interact with the podcast content. Downloading and queuing podcasts is the only logical and no nonsense way. You can customize the downloads to auto queue on to a playlist very easily. You can also subscribe to podcasts and manually add to your current playlist only ones relevant to your interests. There are further ways to customize, but with ease, and a little time you can set yourself up with a very comfortable and reliable interface with all of your podcasts. Do not hesitate to try it. Please pay the $1.99 if this works for you so we can keep this going. Its an invaluable tool. Thank you.

Go-to podcast app for 10 years

I’ve been using PodcastPlayer for all my podcast listening for a decade. I can find most podcasts by category when that fails searching by keyword is incredibly useful. Adding custom URLs from Patreon and other site is easy as can be when all else fails.
I’ve only started using the listening speed and custom URLs in the past 2-3 years. I’m now listening to most podcasts at 1.5x or 2x speed. The skip silence feature and custom settings by podcast are fantastic.
I’ve even started categorizing my podcast by interest, Kid Friendly, DnD, Politics, etc. It’s definitely my favorite app. Once I downloaded it I’ve never looked back.

THE most customizable podcast player

If you listen to a lot of shows, this is your player. Period. None of the social duff and show promo previews the native app is cluttering every screen with now. Just your shows and their episodes with full control over every aspect of each.

From serialized shows you want to plow through starting at episode 1, to daily news where you will never dig back through archives, to shows you've just discovered with 200 back episodes you want to selectively pick through, PodcastPlayer lets you tweak ALL the settings for each show to keep your playlist fresh and filled with your must-listens.

Auto-queue places your must-listens in the queue automatically and you even get to dictate where in the queue they get added.
Manual reordering of not only each category, but of the shows you place in the categories is a godsend.
Easy to add single episodes from shows you don't want to subscribe to.
Super efficient listening with playback speeds, silence skipping, customizable forward and backward skip amounts, and customizable show start and finish skips.

Digging through the settings might seem daunting, but honestly every item is a delight as you discover the ability to do things you didn't even know you wanted to do. And the default settings would work great anyway.

Happily upgraded not to gain features or remove ads, but because this amount of attention to detail deserves support.

I love the ability to categorize podcasts!!

I depend on categories since I listen to podcasts for research and also just because I listen to a lot of different kinds of podcasts. Not all podcast apps even offer the ability to categorize podcasts. RSS radio does offer this feature AND whichever episodes you queue up to play can be viewed as a playlist under that category. Super useful for organizing both podcast subscriptions and podcast episodes I want to queue up to listen to. I have not found this capability in any other app except maybe Podcast Addict but that is not available on iPhone. RSS radio is an all around great podcast app, in my opinion.

This is the essential podcast app

RSS Radio does the one thing I absolutely need in a podcast app, it allows you to easily listen to old podcasts in chronological order. It does this with an option called “download oldest unlistened”. With this option, when you finish a pod and it is deleted, PodcastPlayer will then download the oldest pod that you have not listened to and add it to the play queue. I listen to a lot of podcasts like this, mostly on history and PodcastPlayer has saved me an enormous amount of time. AFAIK, no other podcast app has a similar feature.

Update: 2 years later and there still is no other podcast player I know of that will play old podcasts the way I want. PodcastPlayer is still the best out there.

Good!

I’ve been using PodcastPlayer for several years now.
I love the ability to have individualized settings for each podcast like how many episodes I want to have auto downloaded. If I want them to get put to the bottom of the playlist or the top...
I’m also a huge fan of the running/auto populating play queue and that it’s pretty easy to move items on the play queue around.
At the moment PodcastPlayer gets a little burdensome if you end up juggling a lot of podcasts/large playlist (I have a lot of things set to auto download because service/internet can be hit or miss for me and I sometimes need to hit the road at a moments notice and it’s great to not have to worry about having stuff downloaded or queueing stuff up while driving). I would love if there was some sort of computer/web interface to more quickly be able to clear/reorganized a large queue (a mouse/keyboard is a little more effortless than endless swiping)
I’d also love to see even more customizable rules when it comes to how the queue forms, like an ability to ‘shuffle play’ with the ability to ear mark certain shows to only play oldest to newest (shuffle play with a series can be confusing).
Regardless, I appreciate PodcastPlayer and will continue to use it for the foreseeable future!

Excellent Application

Fantastic aggregator of all my disparate news feeds, podcasts and even paid, subscribed content.
Easy to use interface with scalability and granularity of control make this my most used app. I listen to all my news content, imported URLs, subscription shows, hobbies and special interests in this one app. Buy it now. If you learn how to use it, you will not regret it.
It has database backup if you want to download your content, which I do these days because of the increasing hostility and outright violation of the Freedom of Speech by the major content providers, while our government does nothing to protect our bedrock right of Free Speech. Download your content and keep local backups away from the Silicon Valley content providers who are on a mission to squash Truth and present a false history to those in the future. The enemies of Truth will not win.

Best Podcast App

We podcast lovers are all looking for different functionalities, and PodcastPlayer has the best ones.

Most essentially:
-Sort podcasts into categories (i.e. fiction, sports, news, etc.). Most apps only let you sort episodes, not podcasts.
-Extensive control over downloads and sort order. This is especially helpful when I find a new podcast with a bunch of episodes to listen through.
-Vast selection of podcasts, a huge boon to those listening to indie or fringe creations. I’ve found every single podcast I’ve searched for.
-New/un-listened episodes are flagged with a number, so I don’t have to manually check if a new episode has dropped.
-Great, simple playback controls. Nothing too fancy, but everything I need.

If you’re looking for an app that generates suggestions, “best of,” or has a community space this isn’t for you. Also, if you’re a by-episode rather than by-podcast listener, the control is limited.

But if you’re an avid podcast listener with dozens of them you need to sort and track in a clear manner, this is the jackpot.
