Well, I kept YachtingWeather on my phone until today hoping for an update that would allow it to simply run on my iPhone OS4.1.
I was excited to see that there was an update available for it today, and I hurriedly went to install it thinking that surely YachtingWeather would finally run.
Nope.
It still crashes 4 seconds after attempting to launch YachtingWeather . I don't know... Maybe the developers are running it on a different iPhone than the other few million of us bought.
But, on a 3GS and a new 4G running both OS 4.0 and later 4.1 YachtingWeather will not run.
So, I guess it's time to just give up and delete it. Bummer. What a waste of what looked like a promising and useful app.

I have been using YachtingWeather for a few years and used to love it (used to being the key word), and I depended on it, as I always found it accurate. The last few months it has been consistently given exaggerated wind prediction. Right at this moment I am off the NJ coast with S winds at 9 kts. while YachtingWeather is telling me that the wind is 43 kts.
Almost did not leave the marina this morning because of the wind prediction, but luckily didn't trust it.
Really disappointed.

I used to love YachtingWeather and used it a lot before they completely overhauled the interface. I suppose all the data is still there, but it's very hard to find what you want and the color scheme is hard on the eyes. Don't even attempt to use on your boat at night, you won't be able to see anything for another 10 minutes.

DEVELOPERS: Please READ, and DO SOMETHING ABOUT YachtingWeather!
No professional weather forecast defaults wind direction as the direction the wind is blowing “to”. NONE. Wind direction is ALWAYS stated as “out of”. ALWAYS. No exceptions. Well, except YachtingWeather. And, that is not “inverted” - your default is what is inverted!
Also, who states precipitation as “mm/in”, or “L/m2”? How about a straight depth in inches, mm or meters?
Why would someone endeavor to write an app about a subject of which they seem to have so little apparent knowledge (either weather or sailing)?
Have you ever heard of distances being stated in terms of “Metrical/Imperial”? Me neither! How do I get nautical vs. statute miles? And, what does “mp/h” even mean for speed?
MAKE KNOTS AT OPTION FOR ALL SPEED SETTINGS! It should even be the DEFAULT! Sailors don’t use miles per hour or meters met hour - THEY USE KNOTS!
There are undefined symbols for waves, with numbers that are frightening. What does “7s 9m” represent? It isn’t listed in the key.
Makes me not trust any app from ESIRION.

I supposed the forecast is only as good as the data received from the weather services, but as I write, seas are running 90 degrees from what the forecast shows, and ha for most of the day.
The descriptions of the forecast icons are too vague. “Wave heights” - is that peaks, averages, or what? A single number for wave heights is minimally helpful. What about swells?
I find YachtingWeather minimally helpful, mostly because it isn’t even remotely accurate!

When pin is dropped, you need the Id of that data source. Also, need to be able to slid the pin around. Buoy data is a must in future updates

I have had numerous problems with YachtingWeather "loosing" my paid subscription and bumping me back to free version. Then its a big ordeal to uninstall and reinstall blah blah blah. Needs more elegant back end to be reliable.

If you just need to get an idea of what conditions may be for a particular area YachtingWeather does the job. I use it on my
Phone when I am considering a fishing trip and am not by a computer. It is simple to use on an IPhone or iPad .

With Washington State's rapidly changing weather patterns, this Apps frequent weather update make it much easier for me to plan my sailings, when on the go. I haven't tried the paid version, but I'm strongly considering doing so.

I totall LOVE the new version. The interface is so incredibly easy, the displays are fantastically clear and understandable and the weather information provided is very thorough. It includes things left out by other apps such as wave height and period, humidity, lightening strikes, etc.
The only problem I have with this ap is that it is not clear how to ADD a location and name it. I will probably figure that out soon. But I think it should have been made easier - at least as easy as the rest of the program. GREAT job!

Most apps on sea condition underestimate the wave height and other measures involving marine measures. This is the best & most accurate marine data & predictor. Many other apps are so inaccurate they are not worth having despite all their data. As a Ph.D. statistical accuracy is critical to my scientific publications. Finally there is an app that consistently demonstrates scientific accuracy of Marine conditions.

The data display is easy to use and data rich. Forecast area pin pointing is very useful. The only suggestion is to expand explanation of some of the data details; e.g., percentages shown. I like YachtingWeather much better than the old version.

Very helpful, I have 10 sources for planning for travel by sea. This one is very good for general use. Highly accurate. Others have longer forecast periods, or more detail as to waves, currents, wind or hour by hour info. But this one works quite well.
