Well here I am at Optics and Photonics 2019 and the SPIE conf app crashes out of the gates - just see the splash screen and nothing else before it returns you to your desktop. This is version 7.7.2 on iOS 12.4. Marvelous.

Day before Optics and Photonics everything was great, but some new update to like or not ( what a stupid idea for science conference) it is crashing constantly. I had created a schedule for all presentations I wanted to attend and this morning all gone. Using the bulky printed program is a nightmare. Why are you making SPIEConferences if it doesn't work when it is needed!

Every year SPIEConferences disappoints. Great idea, can be helpful when it works but buyer beware. The search function is terrible. You can not search by session number. It will not sync between devices. The schedule you put in can spontaneously disappear. The general presentation is poor. Even on an iPad the ergonomics can be tough.

Just like the original it simply crashes and does not function. Was somewhat useful in the past year or two but once again no longer functions at all

I carefully went through and made a comprehensive schedule. Then it said an update was available. After the refresh, it added every single event to my schedule and decided to notify for every one. Last time I don't use paper.

It is a nice idea and helpful as well. Mich better then searching the big book and then missing the talk anyway. Only drawback is that it is not stable. Each time one add a talk to the schedule the program quits. How can that help?

Every year I try to use SPIEConferences to find relevant talks at Photonics West, and every year it disappoints badly. This year it looked better: fewer crashes and better layout. So I spent several hours putting together a schedule. Then it crashed and I lost everything. So once again it managed to disappoint!
Get your act together, SPIE! Photonics West is too big for a paper program. The 396-page paper program is so daunting and poorly laid out that it's useless, so an app is essential. But it's too bad SPIEConferences is also useless. Actually, it's worse than useless--it also wastes hours of our time.

From the perspective of someone who would have liked to use this to find potential vendors it was not very helpful. Sure it gave me a (very long) list of potential vendors to talk with, but it would be helpful if it would have sorted them by booth number!
I tried the export function so I could to my own sort, and only a few records came through. Back to paper...

SPIEConferences is a wealth of knowledge. There seems to be quite a few bugs that cause SPIEConferences to be extremely slow and crash often.
It really only works if you're patient.

The concept is great. Certainly makes scheduling easier. App is flaky, but this might be due to bad conference data files. At my current conference and I think another it would crash when I try to open the events section where the conferences are taking a good half dozen tries to get it to load. Once I get it, app works ok.
It would be helpful to show authors, or at least the presenter name under each paper title instead of having to click through the tabs at the top of the page.
Also, talks should all be listed chronologically in the “today” section, not in conference order.

There is a bug in the schedule function where I can only see the first page of talks. I touch "next 3 results" but nothing happens. Also, it would be nice if there was a "coming up" filter; you can see what's happening now and what's happening in an hour, but a lot of stuff in between is left out.

SPIEConferences won't allow me to log in to see the schedule I created on my PC. I even changed my password and rebooted my iPhone. I'm kind of disappointed. I think it worked last year. :(

Old review:
Abstract page is blank. No room numbers for talks. No nice calendar layout of "My schedule". All of which are fully functional on the web version. Don't think there's caching, either, which makes SPIEConferences almost impossible to use when trapped in 3G black hole that is the bottom-floor conference room.
That said, great idea! Just get this stuff fixed please!! Then, you can implement real-time rating and speaker Q&A interactivity.

Can you fix the maps/room locator. It's buggy, and like a roach motel you can get in, but not out. Without restarting SPIEConferences , that is.

Updated: If SPIEConferences is deleted from the iPhone, then reinstalled, this seems to stop the immediate crash that occurs with viewing a conference.

SPIEConferences worked all week as I was preparing for Optics & Photonics in San Diego. Then I updated my iOS on Saturday and next time I tried to run SPIE it crashes. I know you’re frantically bug hunting. Good luck.

I'd had SPIEConferences for about a week and then it suddenly started misbehaving. I contacted the developer this morning and it turns out there was some sort of server issue that was causing bad data to be returned. Apparently the problem's fixed and and some changes were made to prevent it from happening in the future. We'll see. In the mean time it's been really helpful navigating the San Francisco conference.
I agree a better calendar view in the schedule part would be nice.

A big improvement over the last last major version. Actually used the Evernote functionality. The Places menu and the ability to find rooms for any event was really helpful.

The new version is much improved! Using SPIEConferences offline would be a great addition, but SPIEConferences seems stable and easier to use than previously. 5 for now, but it will have to keep improving to stay that way.
