Solos Shine. Star Scales is used by over 1 MILLION musicians
worldwide!!! You’ve always dreamed of being a great guitar player like Jimi
Hendrix, David Gilmour or Jimmy Page? All you ever wanted was playing lik...
Good, almost... the scale positions are wrong. Scale pattern 1 is actually pattern 5, every pattern is off like that. why? If you want to reinvent things, whatever, at least give the settings option to label it conventionally.
Does exactly what it claims.
I like this app for it's practical approach of separating the fretboard into easily memorizable patterns. This is essential for building muscle memory, speed, and confidence. Other, more traditional approaches map all the notes on the fretboard at once, which can be overwhelming. I would like to see chords/progressions that can be used with each scale, or the ability to enter chord/progressions and get a list of scales that work.
Well executed app
I have paid once for the app and have it on my iPad and iPhone. I purchased on my iPhone. It is confusing but to add to iPad you need to go to purchased apps screen and select not on iPad. On the next screen you will see the app with the little cloud/down arrow icon. Tap boom installs. Would like a setting to disable screen shutdown while using the app.
Great app, does what it's supposed to. I recommend to you, and your mama. Update on review: I still think its a great app, but I wish they made a version for the Mac App Store. A version for my laptop. I've been looking for something like this for my computer and it exists but none are nearly as great as this app. So please make this for the computer as well. Thanks.
The app is good & intuitive to use. When I had questions about the numbers (fingers) the developer was very quick to respond. The developer has also responded quickly to suggestions for improvement. The only improvement would be to have the help section be a little more comprehensive to explain the different screen notations.
The only thing keeping it from being 5 stars is that it would be awesome to have 3 note per string fingerings for all of the scales.
Complete and useful
Lots and lots of scales here. A few bonus features are great - guides that show which finger to use to what each note sounds like. I think it'd be cool if the iPhone could be turned with the face out like a guitar and you could then practice some of the scales right on your phone.
Extremely Lame - Better Ones for Free
Saw it advertised on Facebook so I bought it on a whim. Turns out it's one of the few like this which make you buy the same thing for your iPad or your iPhone if you bought it once. Nothing different or particularly well done in presenting scales to you. It's done better in free programs. Save your money, try some of the other programs that don't cheat you for two versions of the same thing and which provide 'lite' versions or are outright free.
Great app for intermediate level guitarist!!
If you're into learning scales, this app will play tons of them, show you fingering on the fretboard, and allow you to "pluck" them out manually. Nice graphics and several different approaches to help you become proficient with scales.
Learn the guitar before you review
If you understand how scales actually work you would know that this program does what it says and presents the information much better than any other iphone guitar scale program to date.
One of the best guitar apps
Very convenient app to have when learning scales. I like the fact that it shows you all the patterns for a scale, and lets you save your favorites for quick access. Get this app now, you won't regret it.
I am new to guitar and like many other beginners, I know what sounds I want, but don't know my way around the neck. This app acts like a road map for the guitar neck. I wish you didn't have to pay twice for iPhone / iPad, but who cares.
Not bad over all. However, it would be very helpful if the scale patterns could be organized with the notes in the order of the scale, and if the starting and ending notes corresponded with the scale, for example c major would be c d e f g a b c, instead of a jumbled group of notes. Could this possibly be corrected in a future update?
Great Pattern Recognition Tool
I have several nice guitar apps and this is the one I use most to practice scales with because it breaks the learning down into manageable chunks. Because of this it goes beyond just a mere reference. It's a unique learning aid!
