Barely functionable

2024-03-21

The website is useless. I bought this program to use for pixel art, but did not realize there were no blending tools, the export function doesn’t even have the basics of psd but apparently has its windows competitor.

This program is definitely beta at best, and should be free until the bugs were ironed out. There are so many issues with clipping masks, blending tools, even selecting things is a nightmare. If you’re familiar with mSpaint and fine with the only two readable options being png and gif, it’s fine, but otherwise?

Wasted 10$ and 3 hours trying to learn it, only to find out it is nothing compared to the programs it CLAIMS to be a merged product of. Having the same gui as another program with half the tools isn’t a merge.

I am beyond angry.

Soooooooo best

Can you change the min requirement back to iOS 15?

Cool at first till digging deeper

2024-07-25

I was super stoked seeing all the positive reviews, but nothing states you only get 2 working files on the free version? Seriously? That’s insanely limited and this was not expressed till after going to start another file. Even with the paid option what’s the limits? Like can we only use so many colors as well in the free version too? This is stifling. At this point just set the entire app to 1 time purchase, not these silly multistage premiums.

Why I don’t like it that much

2024-08-09

Pixquare is great with stunning features , great for art , game development or just to do something when you’re bored , but the most important features are paid (not free) and the prices of the subscription is too much , like who is paying that much for features that you can find loopholes for them ?

How do you do the tile thing?

2024-03-21

The game is like blank it’s just black, gray, and white and we really have pay just draw…huh?

Really good tools and very easy to use, BUT.

2024-09-30

I really like Pixquare as I had to move to a new one, and my standards were immediately met when I tested it out.
Only problem I can really see here, and I may be wrong, but WHY IN GODS NAME do you need to pay money to make more than 2 pieces of artwork?? That seems very unreasonable to me, but again, I might be wrong. If i am, please correct me.

Other than that, great app.

Almost

2024-01-17

Resprite offers 4K canvas. This one limits 1500 x 1500. I mean still that is a lot of pixels, but I believe Resprite is in the lead

Best pixel app for iPads out

2024-01-17

And I’m serious. Without a doubt, this is one of the best out. I wish I knew how to watch Timelapses. It counts each day I use it which is crazy subliminal but … it works! I can’t keep my hands off Pixquare! The themes are so cute and I hope to submit a few really soon! Inspires me to get better and better at pixeling each and every day, and it’s so helpful.

I will say, I wish there were a way to move files to and from folders, as well as a more comprehensive tutorial on how to use every single feature? Or maybe I’m missing something. Either way, I’m incredibly excited to see how Pixquare progresses. This rules.

Kinda good

2024-06-20

It is really good at some point. Even though I know it is applied with minimalism but can you make a turtorial for the beginner of your app? I’ll be great for beginner like me because when I first loaded into Pixquare , I was confused of what I need to do. Thanks

Good overall

2024-08-03

Love playing with Pixquare, good for beginners and doesn't overwhelm you with a million features and brushes. If you like Aseprite on the PC you'll like this app. My only issue is that there is no way to resize an image. You can resize the canvas which is essentially the crop tool, but no way to resize the image itself. I've tried looking it up to see if I missed anything but to no avail. Hoping this will be implemented in the future!

So Easy To Work!

2024-09-30

I am officially obsessed with Pixquare. Got it the other day, had previously been using ibispaints smallest canvas sizes to work. NEVER going back to that. Pixquare is so well made, and so easy to use.

My only complaint would be having to go to the guide out-of-app to see what certain buttons do or how to do something. A good accessibility feature would be a tutorial mode, or having some non-grayscale buttons to see what they are more easily.

Overall though, a great app :) Thanks so much to the dev!

Pretty enjoyable, but…

2024-08-31

I’ve been trying out a few pixel art tool because I recently got an iPad. I continue to gravitate towards this one no matter what. It’s ui is noninvasive and clear and each tool is straightforward… But there are a few issues I found myself running into. 1// Bucket tool: straightforward. Compared to other apps I’ve used say, aseprite for example, I can fill in a space regardless of what layer I’m on due to it being a given option for the tool. I don’t know if I’m looking over an option for it. Please point it out if I have. 2// Custom brush:UPDATE: I figured it out. It utilizes the selection tool. 3// Selection tool: This one’s just a nitpick. I’m used to selecting a spot with the rope tool, etc, and then just immediately moving it. Maybe an option for that? No sweat.

Finally…

2024-07-03

I’ve tried just about every pixel art app on Pixquare store as well as pixel art in Procreate and nothing really felt great for working seriously on pixel art. Additionally, features were severely lacking like animating, palettes, etc. There’s Aseprite obviously, but for mobile there just was a bit of a void until this came out. The animation feature is fantastic and very easy to use. I love the fact that i can just pull palettes from Lospec, saving me a ton of time, particularly when switching palettes often. Everything feels super intuitive and easy to use. Looking forward to see how development continues!

Very nice

2024-06-23

I only used it for one drawing so far but it has all the features I need, I really enjoy the interface. Feels more comfortable than other pixel art apps I found on iOS.

Best pixel art app on iPad!

2024-05-04

Absolutely the smoothest pixel software to work with on the iPad, by far. It’s chock full of features out of the box, with regular updates and support. I can do all of my tileset and isometric game asset work on here, and nearly all of my character spritesheet work too. Highly recommend for pixel game dev artists and illustrators on iPad!

Amazing, Clear and Powerful!

2024-07-03

Don’t let the simple UI fool you this incredible little app is already blowing my mind, I’ve tried a few different iPad pixel apps and I really like where this one is headed! Huge fan of the adjustable symmetry and ability to add different symmetry lines, if they were to add the ability to rotate those symmetry lines I’d be set for life. I love how cozy Pixquare feels as well and the ease of use even for someone who barely does pixel art like myself is awesome :0 definitely recommend, can’t wait to see what they add in the future!

Great app!

2024-05-24

Always wanted to have an app to accompany me with pixel art/animation on the go and Pixquare fully delivered! Comfortable UI, great drawing experience and Aseprite file support easily makes it a great companion to have for both hobbyists and professionals! Easily recommended.

Pretty Good However:

2024-05-04

If you’re not used to pixel art softwares or art softwares in general, you might not know what the symbols mean. Especially on mobile. I mean, even as a person who is experienced with pixel art software, some of the symbols confused me. I had no idea how to merge layers until by accident. So, I think it would be great to possibly have a quick guide for the basics. Other than that, it’s pretty good.

Love it

2024-06-23

Great program! Would highly recommend it for anyone looking for an iOS alternative to Aesprite.

Great app!

2024-05-04

I really appreciated the free version of Pixquare because it doesn’t gate anything crucial away from you. Pixquare guides available are super helpful for someone like me who hadn’t worked with animations or pixel art.
Pixquare is customizable, intuitive, and powerful.

Also it is great that Pixquare is still being actively updated.

Great App

2024-05-24

My fav pixeling app, I like this over Resprite as it has more features (like Timelapse), and the dev is very responsive on twitter.

Only grip is ui buttons are a bit hard to read/not as clean as I’d like, but hey you can now change that with skins!

Aesprite for IPad

2024-05-04

I have spent years looking for an Aesprite equivalent for the iPad and have tried all the options offered when it comes to pixel art programs.

This takes the cake. With a wonderfully elegant UI and a developer that is working closely with pixel artists to add new features you can’t go wrong.

Add a one time purchase cost and no subscription and this is pure gold!

Finalllly

2024-07-03

I’m an illustrator who enjoys making pixel art for fun, and to connect with the online community through game dev. Working mobile has always been a challenge, I never liked the free or paid pixel art apps I had tried before since they often had very confusing user interfaces, or were missing workflow features. Online editors were not helpful in airport or travel situations. But finally, here’s an app I am 100 percent behind. It saves in popular file formats including Aseprite, which means I can transfer work back and forth between home and iPad. It also features powerful tools like pixel perfect pen, and animation layout. Thanks for such a great app, and a SOLID recent update adding new features. I’ll be using this for a long time to come.

Best pixel art App for phone and IPad

2024-07-03

I am always looking for an app for pixel art for my iPad and came across this one by chance. It’s still fairly new app but the creator is working hard to make any improvements needed or wanted. The more I have it and they update it the better it gets. The only downside is not many know of Pixquare yet so tutorials can be hard to find on it. However it’s not too hard to use and get the hang of it, and you can always ask in there discord if your not sure on something about it.

Amazing Pixel Art App

2024-05-24

I’m just getting started with pixel art and I can already tell that Pixquare is 100% what I need. Paid for full version after a couple of days and don’t regret it!

Amazing App! Very responsive developer, and simple UI

2024-05-24

Pixquare is probably one of the best pixel art softwares out there for iPad! It supports Aseprite files and can even export as Aseprite! Very useful for many reasons. I even bought premium, as it was worth it!

Favorite Pixel Art App!

2024-07-03

Pixquare is my favorite for making pixel art on the iPad. Updates are frequent and always appreciated! If I had to offer one suggestion, it’d be optimization for larger files. I’d like to plan a map for a game project but bigger files don’t seem to play nice and can cause crashes. I’m no app developer though so this could simply be a hardware limitation. At any rate, it still earns 5 stars in my book!

Love it

2024-05-04

Just started today, already love it. Only one things I have to say. Annoying that you can’t select a certain thing, and you have you select the whole thing. Other than that there’s nothing to complain about.

Non paid review 5⭐️

2024-05-24

I happened to run across Pixquare as a hobbyist game dev and its a godsend. Pixquare creator is active on discord is willing to give Pixquare their absolute best. I paid for Pixquare after a few days (don’t usually do that) as I saw its potential and the love and care it gets, not to mention how great Pixquare is in its current state.

You just don’t see apps or their developers give this much thought and care to their product or community. Major props to the dev.

Spectacular

2024-06-11

Pixquare makes animating and pixel art so easy. With simple tools to create pixel art. I love using Pixquare!

Amazing App

2024-08-28

I have 1000s of hrs invested in creating pixel art, having learned in MS Paint and currently using Aseprite when on desktop.

I tried a few other apps as well but this is imo the absolute best you can get for creating pixel art on a tablet or mobile device.

fantastic app for pixel art

2024-08-31

i’ve struggled to find a good pixel art app, but this one was suggested by an artist on tumblr and it works really well! i’ve found it easy to use as a beginner, though it seems like a fairly advanced program as far as the scope of its abilities. my favorite feature by far is the “generate gradient” tool, which has been an absolute lifesaver. other highlights include: complete RGB/HSL/hex color selection tool, easily accessible eyedropper, layers, and blending mode options.

my one complaint is that i’d like to be able to merge layers and delete individual saved color swatches without having to clear the whole palette — but it’s very possible that those functionalities do already exist and i just haven’t figured out how to do them yet.

Wow

2024-08-31

I absolutely love Pixquare. The UI is clear and intuitive, the tools are easy to find and use. Masking, blend modes, lasso selection; everything you could ask for from an art app is right where you need it. And I love that the premium is a one time price and not a subscription like everything else seems to be these days. You can feel the time and effort put into Pixquare and it truly makes it one of the best on Pixquare Store.

Expressive Pixel Art on the Go

2024-08-31

I’m trying to build a catalog of 16x16 sprites for an app I’m working on, and this has been the perfect companion to that. Every feature I could think of (animating with multiple frames, frame overlay, color palettes, color dropper, exporting) is lovingly accounted for.

Some really specific features are not intuitively accessible so you should read the documentation to understand all that Pixquare can do.

Best Pixel Art App for iOS

2024-10-11

Pixquare is the BEST available for pixel art on the iPad/iPhone hands down. I worked on pixel art previously in Aseprite before switching to this app, and I love how the this app UI has a similar feel to Aseprite, while also bringing new features to the table + having some controls similar to Procreate. The fact that the developer also updates Pixquare so regularly is amazing, too! As an artist who is constantly on the go, Pixquare is a lifesaver when I want to create pixel art during downtime at work. I 100% recommend anyone who is looking for a pixel art app to invest in this app AND tip the developer 👍👍👍👍👍

Perfect Trial Model

2024-09-30

If you want to try your hand at pixel art, this is the perfect starting point. Intuitive controls, accessible learning curve and best of all, full functionality for the free model (only restricting number of projects) and NO microtransactions or nickel-and-diming. Plus when you want to move to the pc if has full compatibility with aseprite. Got nothing to lose by trying it!

Best pixel art app for iPad

2024-09-30

I was gonna wait a while before reviewing, but I just discovered that you can get to the palette using the pencil pro squeeze. So awesome! Anyway, Pixquare is great, get it. The only thing missing (I think) that I’d like is - when hovering with the pencil pro, I’d like to see the unadded pixel in the preview, so I can look before I add it. Maybe I just haven’t found how to turn that on.

ABSOLUTELY AMAZINGGGGG

2024-10-11

i have tried lots of pixel art stuff but this is definitely the best BY FAR and i literally just downloaded it. all of the features in the free version are nice, and i LOVE how there’s no subscription and i can just buy it one time! i haven’t gotten the full version yet, but i’ll probably be getting it soon!! absolutely amazinggg also i love how there’s onion layer! more pixel animators need to have onion layers!! but yea everything is amazing! 10/10!! edit: after looking into Pixquare some more, i have some suggestions (idk if these exist and i just can’t find them but yk) 1: a clipping mask option, 2: a way to slow an animation down.

edit 2: ohh tyty i just found how to do both of those with the link! i really like how you set up that website with the search bar! if that wasn’t there i would’ve prolly just given up tryna look for it 🙃

This was perfect

2024-01-10

Intuitive. Easy to use. Perfect for Minecraft game assets.

Best pixel art app

Thoughtfully laid out for actual use and continues to get new updates!

I never write reviews but

2024-03-12

I’ve tried a couple of apps before but wanted something more professional as a newbie and after a week of using Pixqaure after someone suggested it on reddit, I bought it. It feels so natural and intuitive. Thank you for creating this beauty!
