4.0 out of 5
Bare minimum

This is the bare minimum you could possibly do. There is no detail on any of the sensors. So you cant see trends. And you can’t apply filters to change averages, layers, and conversions. No way to filter indoor vs outdoor sensors. This needs some work to be a real replacement of the PurpleAir website.

Also not updating for me

Loved the simplicity of AirQualityReader, but noticing that the numbers aren’t changing over the last few days. It’s 12/12 and app seems not to be connecting to the network

Needs options

Need ability to turn off indoor sensors and set the conversion. Like it though!

Wish it had pollen data as well

Extremely easy/basic interface. You can’t tap on a location to see additional details, it’s just the AQI #s laid on a map.

I just have two wishes: 1) Pollen data for allergy sufferers 2) Notification options for when the quality drops below a specific level.

Great App just not accurate 100%

Love AirQualityReader but not sure where the data comes from or how often it’s updated we my sensor shows up on the purple air map on the webpage but using AirQualityReader it does not show up.

Nice app but missing conversions

I like AirQualityReader , but without the widget that purple air has on their website I do find the numbers as useful. I want to be able to convert to EPA and ignore indoor sensors.

Simple and easy

Thanks Bret! Feature request: PM 0.3 seems to be more closely related to smoke levels than PM 2.5. PurpleAir has both options in the web page.

Great app, just needs indoor option

Simple and the resizeable widget is the best part! Only thing I would prefer is if I could see my indoor sensor.

Simple and exactly what I wanted

Great app for viewing purple air data on a map nicely.

Great Job

Exactly what I wanted for both AirQualityReader and the widget!

Excellent

Been looking for something like this for awhile. Super useful. Thanks Bret!

Cool app

Saw this developer talk about how he made AirQualityReader on twitter. Seems like its got a cool design and a nice widget to boot. Good job!

AQI is great, now add temp!

Love having this widget on my Home Screen. Add a filter to show temperature and you’ve officially replaced the iOS weather app.

Perfect

Sometimes the simplest app is the best. AirQualityReader does exactly what it needs to do and nothing more.

Widgets!

Thanks for AirQualityReader! Love having PA data in an iOS widget. I own a PA indoors sensor and would love to have the option of seeing that data in addition to outside sensors.

If I were king for a day I’d love to see a widget option with just two data points and no map. Maybe field one a favorite sensor (ex. my indoors sensor) and then field two the closest outdoors sensor. The current implementation is still worlds better than having to navigate the PA site on an iPhone though, thanks!

love this!

Thanks for developing this! I live on the west coast and this widget is one of this first things I check before going out.

Thank you.

Thank you for creating this simple and effective app. It’s thoughtful, timely and helpful.

FYI to other reviewers:

It should be clear—data is drawn directly from hyper-local Purple Air sensors, based on location.

I’ve found these Purple Air readings to be far more consistently an accurate average of my local AQI than anything reported via Apple’s weather app—every single day.

Thanks!

Thanks Bret, this is the exact app that I needed to tie-in to my PurpleAir sensor and the PurpleAir map. No frills is fine - open AirQualityReader or widget, and there are your location’s AQI readings in real time. Of course, your map interface allows pinching and zooming to other locations, as well.

Works great

This is an amazing app. It’s crazy that Purple Air didn’t make this first party. Thanks for this Bret.

Version 2.0 should let you sign in to your personal Purple Air monitor in a separate view. Right now it’s a just a cheap webpage. Should also include normal features like “remember me” etc.

So simple and fast. Better widget than first-party data providers!

This is such a simple app that give you just enough air quality information. The widget is just a perfect size and provides all the AQI data you need before heading out the door. Works well on iOS 14 on an iPhone 6s!
