The design of NotBoringWeather is amazing! Hands down, one of the best looking and clever weather apps available. I’m sorry to see, however, that the developers (like so many others) have jumped on the subscription-based bandwagon. It’s impossible to purchase an app anymore! Everything is $1, $2, $5, $10 a month - from movies to music to news to weather apps… everything is a monthly payment. I don’t know if users don’t notice or don’t care, but IT ADDS UP! So, congrats to the developers, but I’m out. If you ever decide to offer your product at a reasonable price ($10 seems fair for a weather app), I’ll be back. For now, though, I unfortunately have to delete NotBoringWeather .

This has to be one of the best-designed apps I have ever seen. Seriously. I love interacting with all the UI elements. NotBoringWeather , like its title says, is truly not boring. Additionally, it doesn’t skimp on functionality and has all the features you’d expect of a weather app.
However, all of this good stuff is locked behind a subscription ($2 monthly and $15 yearly for the basic level, and $70 yearly for the premium level), That’s not even mentioning all the paid skins that are not included in the subscription. I’m happy to support developers, but I’d rather spend a little bit more on a one-time purchase rather than an indefinite subscription. This may be an amazing app, but it’s killed off by the subscription.

Being pushed into a 7 day trial from the start is pretty pushy IMO.

The art and animation looks great but I’d rather have a free version with possible limited features than this.

Just a thought.

I downloaded NotBoringWeather , the description said there is a 7 day free trial. When I opened NotBoringWeather it immediately put up the subscription page with no way to bypass to the free trial.

The word skip is written in the upper right corner in very small grayed out letters. The free trial should be listed in the subscription field so it is easy to find.

I deleted NotBoringWeather for this reason

Looks like a beautiful app (can’t tell since youare immediately asked to choose a paid subscription) but just not for me. Love that no data is being collected. Weather info is expensive, so I don’t think the price is unreasonable either. But hard to know if it has the features of Dark sky or Carrot to warrant a switch.

The design work is fantastic on all of the not boring apps…except for the fact the great design work does not apparently have a horizontal view on iPads. I hope I am incorrect.

Great looking apps, obviously. Wish I could pay a premium outright. Just can’t justify another subscription. Great job though, looks and reacts excellently.

I’m really liking NotBoringWeather so far, it’s visually very nice. I wish it had a radar and watch complications, but that’s my only complaints for now. I recommend downloading and purchasing.

I truly love all of these apps, but don’t understand why none of them are available for Apple Watch. All four would make stylish and useful complications. I would even pay for it. Please make it happen!

I have been an interactive designer/developer for two decades. Every once in a while someone comes along and just blows your mind apart with a creative perspective, nose-grinding on the rail between utility and aesthetic value… a handful of normal folks will pan NotBoringWeather , complaining that the developer is asking for a couple bucks for his hard labor… but these people have very little taste, and honestly should not be given the unmitigated voice they have in the Wild West that is App Store reviews. NotBoringWeather is class, trust me. And I paid for it because it’s a work of art.

Perfect design. I wish every app had this kind of charm and uniqueness to it! It’s also fun to WOW my friends with an app that at first glance seems simple, but actually has riddles and hidden secrets. ☺️

I never liked to use widgets. For some reason I fell in love with NotBoringWeather the moment I saw it. It’s the only widget I have on my Home Screen. Absolutely love it. It’s so unique and I love all the animations in NotBoringWeather . Keep it up!

I have never left a review on an app before. I really really like NotBoringWeather. The little “tink” noises NotBoringWeather makes when I tap on the screen is so relaxing and pleasing to my ears. I really like the pictures on NotBoringWeather . Thank you for making a weather app that is interactive. So nice!

I would love to see some watch apps. It there anyway to have NotBoringWeather as live wallpaper for the weather app?

These apps, especially weather, always make me smile when I use them- I really enjoy the fact that mundane daily tasks can actually bring joy. Well worth the price- it’s in the ballpark of a movie ticket or a new book from a favorite author. Excited to see what comes next!

Love where this is heading, but for now I don’t find myself consistently using it. I’m not sure why. I think usually when I’m trying to check the weather, I want to know something specific, efficiently. This doesn’t really get you there. And that’s not the point. It feels like this could be ahead of it’s time—it’s almost like it’s designed primarily for augmented reality, and this is just a POC on touch screens. But we’ll see! For now, keep up the great work.

This is the Columbia Music Club of weather apps.

I read an article about this and I was excited to try it. But you have to sign up for a subscription before you can get your first forecast.

You will be BLASTED with an obnoxious ad the first time you open. Turn your volume down! It should have a seizure warning.

I like the idea. But “playing” to find and change skin was tricky. I guess I didn’t want a game. The biggest confusion though was it failed at the most basic - weather. It’s snowing. And yet the weather app says it’s raining. And drizzling (also a rain term). At 17 degrees. So it’s a start. I like another design take on weather. But first and foremost, a weather app has to be fluent in weather.

It’s been a long time since an app made me smile. The premise that play should be the primary focus of an app is interesting. I’ll be curious to see how sustainable it is once the discovery element fades away.
