Pretty inaccurate

2022-05-23

I’ve wrote a review before noting that I was getting rained on by heavy rain and WeatherStrip didn’t change status at all and I’ve been completely dry and hot outside with WeatherStrip telling me 65% rain and heavy rain. I like the look and flow of WeatherStrip but ultimately I can’t use this on its own or rely on it for accurate, right now, weather. I have now passed my free trial and can’t even hang around to see if it gets better. Although cheap, I can’t allow myself another in app purchase for something that I can’t say actually brings me any value.

Beat concept, bummer execution.

2022-06-24

WeatherStrip is one I have dreamt about for many years. As a meteorological enthusiast, I tend to like some of the raw data that the National Weather Service and the NOAA provide. Are use their charts and graphs on my computer regularly. But I’ve always been frustrated at trying to use that on a mobile device.

In fact, I wanted WeatherStrip so bad I asked some friends of mine who are software coding brainiacs whether or not we could build this exact app ourselves even if only for our own personal uses.

Needless to say, I am a fan of this concept. However, only after downloading WeatherStrip have I realized that I can’t choose the data being displayed. The Dew Point data set being the most important to me.

This could easily be down to operator error. If it comes down to that, I will instantly change my rating to 5! I’m hopeful that the functionality of being able to choose what data is displayed will be added soon if it’s not already a feature.

Great app, but one major flaw

2022-07-25

I love the design of WeatherStrip and it gives me more relevant information in a friendlier way than any other weather app I’ve tried. I subscribed as a result. The one glaring flaw is that the only way to choose a different location is by scrolling around a map. This is hugely inefficient and really hinders my ability to use WeatherStrip for planning local travel or prepare for upcoming trips. I hope the developer adds the ability to search for locations or I won’t be a long-term subscriber.

Great app, could be even better

2022-08-26

Love that WeatherStrip gives hour-by-hour data for your current location straight from NOAA in an easy-to-read graph for temp, cloud cover, chance of rain, amount of rain, and UV index. I’ve found it to be immensely helpful—this quickly became one of my most-used weather apps. My only complaint is that there doesn’t seem to be a way to search for other locations beyond finding them on the map and there doesn’t seem to be a way to store a list of locations you look at frequently for easy access. You can drop a pin on the map and save it for future use, but you still have to scroll across the map to find your pin. Hopefully those features will be added in the future!

Great, but inaccurate

2022-09-27

The concept behind WeatherStrip is great, however the information it displays is inaccurate for my location. For years I have used Dark Sky which takes a hyper-local approach to forecasts. This is necessary for anything approaching accuracy in San Francisco which is known for its micro climates that can vary wildly from one side of the city to the other. It looks like Weather Strip is giving me a forecast for the eastern side of the city, which is completely useless if you live on the west side where the sun rarely shines in the summer months. As I write this, I am surrounded by fog and dense clouds, however WeatherStrip tells me that there is 50 percent cloud cover.

Excellent visualization but unreliable uptime

2022-10-28

WeatherStrip is one of the best visualization and easy to slide through single-handed. This developer is talented and I supported by subscribing. But WeatherStrip keeps having server issues that says - NOAA server issues. I would gladly pay more if WeatherStrip can be reliable. I hope the developer considers other data sources like Dark Sky.

Additionally, I wish there was a watch app and an iOS widget. Without them, I still have to have some other weather app.

Great promise

2022-11-29

I liked this enough to subscribe for a year. It’s one of a kind but definitely still has room for improvement.

Two features I would like to see are easier switching of saved locations and (some) history on the visualization. Right now if the map is zoomed in in the wrong spot it’s way too hard to switch. On the history front, it isn’t even very easy to go backwards and look at the current day. That’s a must! Preferably I’d love to have about a week of history included in the visualization.

Lovely

2022-12-30

WeatherStrip is hands down excellent. It’s intuitive to use, really simple, and the way it plots the weather on a timeline is actually instructive for learning about peak points of cold and hot and UV during the day.

Side note: I’ve tried all the other “award winning” weather apps (Dark Sky, Carrot, Hello Weather, etc) and found their forecasts to be severely inaccurate in the Southerb California. While most of these are pulling from the same weather information (NOAA usually by default), I’d always found these apps to have forecasts that varied by 10 degrees to the on the ground weather conditions. As someone who works in agriculture, these inaccuracies are kinda unforgivable. Weather Strip’s forecasts ALWAYS match the NOAA point forecast for my region. Thank you for getting this right.

Amazingly Well Done

2023-01-31

I’ve been using another, shall we say, vegetable related weather app for years now, and while I do love it (even though it wants to kill me), I find myself using WeatherStrip even more. It’s just beautifully designed, and so perfectly well laid out. I really wish it wasn’t subscription-based, but I will I know people need to make money so, the cost is not so onerous.

Excellent

2023-03-04

Having tried all the well regarded weather apps, it took about a minute for this to become my favorite. Everything you want to know is presented in a clear, easily navigable one-screen view. A widget and radar would make it perfect.

One other disadvantage to WeatherStrip that I didn’t realize at first is that it really is ONLY a forecast. There’s no real time weather info, so if you live in an area as I do where it’s not uncommon for unpredictable storms to drop the temp 10 or 15 degrees, it does get quite off in those situations. Still a great app, I just have a local stations app as backup for radar and real-time info on such days.

Beautiful, clever UX design!

2023-04-02

First, pay for WeatherStrip. It’s great, and great things deserve money.

WeatherStrip packs so much data visually into one simple chart that any fan of Edward Tufte will just drool over how thoughtful and clever the experience is. It has a simple, timeless feel—honestly, the weather graph could be printed in the newspaper and it would still be just as useful. Kudos to Robin Stewart and Math Easel for creating a masterpiece of visual information design!

Beautiful, extremely well-designed app

2023-05-04

Not only is this beautiful to look at; it's also extremely well-designed. And by that I mean that it's super quick and easy to get the full picture of the upcoming forecast at just a glance. It's densely packed with temps, UV index, cloud cover, sunrise/sunset, chance of rain and thunderstorms, heat advisories and the like. Words cannot describe how wonderfully and beautifully WeatherStrip displays weather information.

My new favorite for weather, radar and widgets please!

2023-06-04

I’ve tried just about every weather app it seems like and the way the information in Weather Strip is presented beats them all. I do keep two other weather apps still on my phone but only for radar. If you added radar I would finally be able to delete the others.

My two suggestions for Weather Strip are:

1. a radar screen of some sort, I I find it very useful to be able to see the radar in conjunction with the other information

2. If you could make widgets for iPhone presenting this information as beautifully as it is in WeatherStrip I would be sold forever.

Great job on WeatherStrip I am a subscriber now thanks!

Great for visual people

2023-07-06

I love the way WeatherStrip is laid out, the interface is simple and straightforward. My only critique would be able to have a military time option. Otherwise fantastic and I appreciate the ad free experience without random tracking stuff.

Edit: Developer will be implementing 24 hour time on the next update. Thank you for reading the feedback and taking the time to action this request!

Simple wonderful and deeply thoughtful

2023-08-06

I think this might be weather data, perfectly visualized. The attention to detail is outstanding. I can’t think a single thing to complain about*.

Well done developer!

* I lied. There is one small thing. Very small! Tiny even. Ridiculous to even mention even. The “i” button on the right feels unbalanced visually by the update timer on the left. The “i” also doesn’t feel quite ios-like in style either.

My go to weather app.

2023-09-07

I have had WeatherStrip for about 7 months now. It is my daily weather check. It’s more accurate hourly for my area than many other apps I have had. The graph view is very user friendly. Being able to see when snow or rain is going to happen, how much and how long on a time graph is visually pleasing and accurate.
The yearly price of WeatherStrip is very reasonable considering I use it daily. It’s updates are consistent. I recommend.

Intuitive and easy! Needs widget and watch functionality!

2023-10-09

First off, kudos for the privacy focus and 30 days free!
I like this a lot! It’s easy to use and read and loaded with great info!
Suggestions: in an unused portion of the screen, perhaps offer space for 2-3 saved locations to easily update the weather. For instance: home, work, and current. Allow custom labels for these. Also, having a widget and watch complication would be great and would take the place of what I’m currently using for both!

Very Good

2023-11-09

Really, just try it. For daily weather forecast data, you won’t find a better UI.

It does not have beautiful maps of pressure systems, air quality or storms. Those are fun, but if you trust this apps data sources, then things like deciding what to wear, whether you can have an event outdoors, or if you need sunscreen or umbrella: they’re all incredibly fast to decide on with this. I’ve replaced three other weather apps with this.

I only wish my subscription got me a watch, desktop and web UI.

Great way to display weather forecasts!

2023-12-11

This is an extremely exciting way to show the weather forecast. Honestly, I am surprised that no one else seems to have done this timeline view before. The only real complaint I have right now is that it is difficult to select different locations by needing to find them on the map rather than just being able to search by name. I am sure this will be added eventually and I look forward to subscribing once my trial period ends.

The best weather app

2024-01-11

It took mere moments for me to realize this was the weather app for me. Everything I need is on one screen with no fuss. I hope that some other color or style themes are added in the future for some variety and personalization. The one major gripe I have is that the subscription is not able to be shared with my family. It’s one thing to sell me on a subscription (and it did that almost instantly) but quite another to expect me to get an additional subscription for every member of the family.

Good start - needs radar map

2024-11-18

Add a map to this and it’s worth paying for.

Simple, accurate. A pleasure

2024-11-18

Waiting now for the widget, which I look forward to happily.

Good start on a solid weather app

2024-11-18

I’ll need to see how accurate the forecasts are when it’s not just 80 deg and sunny everyday, but I love the expanded weeklong view. A feature request: would love to add a widget to my home page!

Nice concept, useful

2024-11-18

It provides all the information I usually need. I just wish WeatherStrip would allow viewing in landscape mode on the iPhone.

Really nice looking weather app

2024-11-18

This weather app has a great UI, scrolling through the day give me a detailed view of today’s and this weeks weather. I do wish there was a simple Apple Watch complication to go with it. That way I’m getting data from one app, rather than WeatherStrip on my phone and the stock weather app on my watch… Weather alerts might be another feature to add. So far I’m really liking it.

Exactly what I’ve been looking for

2024-11-18

I’ve used numerous weather apps over the years, and really liked a few, but WeatherStrip is exactly what I’ve always wanted! Kudos to the developer for the privacy focus too.

Love it!

2024-11-18

Absolutely love this weather app. Everything you want to know about current and upcoming weather in a single concise overview.

My only request would be wind speed and direction in the weekly overview.

Great weather app for planning ahead!

2024-11-18

Appreciate the ease of WeatherStrip for looking out a couple days to be able plan for walks, paddle boarding and getting outside!

Love the interface!

2024-11-18

I like how easily I can look ahead across multiple datapoints!

Finally, a weather app done right.

2024-11-18

AD free, clean interface, and no personal data harvesting. The sliding ribbon presents detailed weather statistics quickly in both statistical and graphical formats. Weather apps aren’t sexy, but they are useful. Love it!

Excellent idea but…

2024-11-18

Great visualization of weather and excellent way to choose location for micro-weather reports.

Subscription is a new understood way of generating income, and WeatherStrip offers 30 days free. My only complaint/ suggestion is tell me what the subscription cost will be UPFRONT. That way, if it is not cost effective, I have not used WeatherStrip for 30 days. Seems fair, no?

Loaded with information

2024-11-18

I like how information dense it is. And without all the extra fluff other weather apps have. I can easily see the day and week all on the same screen. And the subscription is quite reasonable.

I might suggest: 1) a view when the phone is in landscape mode, 2) a cleaner icon, 3) onboarding describing what's going on in the week view (I think I have that figured out, but a few pointers when using it the first time would be nice.)

I've only been using it for a few hours but this might be my new "go to" weather app. All in all, quite a nice app! Good job!

My new favorite weather app

2024-11-18

This is a super cool, super easy weather app. All the info you need is laid out right in front of you. Using it is very easy and very intuitive. Time will tell how accurate it is, but initially I'm very impressed.

This app is really cool!!

2024-11-18

It’s really well thought out and designed, it has basic functionality that isn’t difficult to understand, the animations are snappy, and in my opinion it’s the best way to understand what the weather will be like. Easily 10 out of 5 stars.
