Won’t connect via cellular when using iOS 16.5.

I loved the idea, but it dont work properly. Sometimes it works only on local network sometimes it’s the opposite. No proper logging of errors. No much option to adjust the configuration to fix it.

I mean like it works when it wants to super buggy app, lots of issues

The most recent update said that there was a ability to share your secure connection. This button does not exist.

So you go to the asus faq and it tells you how to share instant guard. But when you go to share it there is no button in InstantGuard to share or make it shareable. I just spent 400 on this router and it’s already getting on my nerves.

Stop working

InstantGuard will install and run, but will not connect on wireless or wired.

Working again with latest update.

I look forward to be able to share my vpn with family members.

If not wanting to set up a dedicated VPN solution Instant Guard is fairly decent. Easy to set up on an ASUS router with it baked in. Easy configuration of connection and simple clean application interface. Once set up the VPN toggle in settings is enabled as it should be. Key thing missing is the Shortcuts widget to allow for Home Screen One touch enabling and disabling of VPN or automation capabilities.

Doesn’t get much easier than this! Open, click connect, protected. Aces for ASUS!

Secret unlimited VPN with purchase of certain asus routers

I decided to take InstantGuard for a spin. I’m using it with a RT-AX86U router currently running 86 constant connected clients with a quest network, reserved IP’s and QOS enabled. All newer WiFi6 setting and enabled.

The good:
It connected to the home router and configured everything automatically. This is great to use when your on a public WiFi like hotels, coffee shops, airports, and more. It give a secure IPSec VPN connection to your home internet and home network to reach things like a NAS. Yes, you don’t have to share your NAS out with a vendors cloud and risk your data, you can use InstantGuard to access your files when your away from home. If you are not technical and want a VPN for when your in public that’s easy to set up then I definitely recommend InstantGuard.

What can be improved:
More information on InstantGuard would be nice. Even in the web admin page under VPN it’s not clear in tech info. So you have to hunt for it in the setting of your phone and system logs. So if you need the IP assigned check your phone setting once you connect. This info might be needed to configure your firewall access on a server or NAS.

The Bad:
This had a slower upload by half compared to using my OpenVPN configuration that is maxed out on encryption levels and authentication.

DO NOT use InstantGuard for a VPN tunnel to the router if you are connected to the WiFi. As of today my router crashed all three times and restarted. Some may want to do this is they feel the WiFi has been compromised or you have a computer/client on the network that may be infected. Although I can also do this with the OpenVPN configuration. I have submitted this issue and suggestions of more information through the feedback on InstantGuard .

My only request is to provide the ability to automatically connect to the vpn anytime you leave the home network.

If you check out the adguard app you’ll see how they can automatically connect to the vpn when you leave a network.

Nice free value add from Asus. Works great with my router. One thing to note, even though it’s not listed in the spec, InstantGuard works with my Asus ROG Rapture GT-AXE16000. Thanks Asus!

Set-up was very straight forward. Running it on ATT Fiber with symmetrical speeds.

Normally I would use nord VPN but this is a nice value add for public wifi like on airplane or lounges and what not. Would not say this is super fast. However is fast enough I can stream hbo or Netflix

That being said you need a very stable connection. If you have very slow upload speeds you will have a lot of connection speeds.

Fiber Symmetrical speeds is the key here. Just cause you have one gig fiber example xfinity your uploads at best is 30MBPS.

Check your broadband facts to see the promised speeds and what not.

I’ve been checking back on InstantGuard every few weeks to see when this issue would get resolved. You can see my original review titled “Broken” from about a month ago for more details on that.

But I just checked it again right now and it’s finally working and my device now shows up as available. Clicked on my router and it finally works! What’s odd though is I didn’t see any updates for InstantGuard, and I haven’t pushed through any firmware updates for my router, and I don’t think I have my router set to automatically update either so how did this just start working? They changed something somewhere without our knowledge?

Anyways.. I have to check my router version later to confirm about the auto update being off so who knows. Only thing I know I did recently was accept some terms for trend micro to grab my data when I wanted to use QOS but don’t think that would of done anything for this... very odd but hey I’m just glad it’s finally working!
