Used to be great...

I first purchased and downloaded the Mozilla VPN app over a year ago and for the first few months it worked great. However after an iOs update last month the VPN began disconnecting on its own as others have noted. Worst part is that no notification is given that the VPN has disconnected so you have to check it frequently to see if it is still connected. Keeping MozillaVPN open worked for a while to keep it connected but now even that doesn’t prevent the VPN from disconnecting on its own. I contacted Mozilla support and they had me uninstall and re-download MozillaVPN but that didn’t work. They then had me send them my VPN logs. They finally came back and just told me they don’t have a solution and offered to give me a refund. It seems they have just given up on fixing this issue. It works great on my laptop though...but not on my iPhone. I guess i will need to find a more stable VPN provider.

Works Just Fine, But...

I know iOS doesn’t allow for a kill switch, but if I can get notifications when I enable/disable the VPN, why isn’t there a notification for when it drops on its own? I’m repeatedly finding myself checking to see if it’s still enabled, and there have been too many times that I’m checking after browsing social media, only to find I was doing so with no VPN enabled.

If there can’t be a kill switch for data, can there at least be a notification for when the VPN disconnects on its own (which seems to happen every 12-36 hours, lately)?

Extremely unreliable

I like Mozilla / Firefox, and I also like what I can gather about their “mission” / purpose. I choose to go with their VPN specifically to support them. However, after one year of using this VPN, I’m finally going to start paying less money for a VPN that actually works. As of the date of this review, I find that whether or not you’ll be able to access websites or stream media / music with the Mozilla VPN turned on is about the equivalent of rolling dice. Will it work today? Maybe. Tomorrow? Maybe not. There is no consistency and therefore no reliability with MozillaVPN. Tech support will reply, but with more questions than answers. I paid way too much to have so little benefit from this, and it costs more than other, top-rated VPNs. Good luck and also shame on you, Mozilla. This is taking your reputation way down. I do hope it improves, but not at mine / others’ exense.

Reliable Connectivity after recent Update

I signed up during the time when connectivity was still spotty but I figured there were still kinks to work out given that they were also still working on Mac OS support. I don’t regret it though. Ultimately solid VPN. Does what it should. Plus the spotty connectivity was resolved with the latest update. Before the update, I would have to disconnect and reset the connection whenever I would be in and out of service areas or if the phone was locked for a prolonged period of time, but now it just picks back up right where I left off. I knew Mozilla wouldn’t disappoint.

Good, with some flaws

Love most of MozillaVPN . My only problems are speed and the difficulty to keep it up all the time.

Running speed tests (wifi) my speed plummets from about 600 Mb/s to about 50 Mb/s when I turn the VPN on, which isn’t too bad, but if that ratio is true for slower connections, that would be problematic.

The bigger problem is that the VPN turns off after a certain amount of time, and I have to manually turn it back on. I haven’t figured out a trigger for the VPN turning off, but I feel that I shouldn’t have to always nudge it to be sure that i’m protected and private.

Doesn’t work on my iPhone 12?

So I have been having nothing but problems ever since I got a iPhone 12. I had a iPhone 11 & never had any problems with it? I can’t use any app to either create or login into a existing account? I have called Apple care for nothing? So now I am stuck paying for a iPhone 12 I can’t use. Figured I would try adding this VPN to my iPhone! Like typical I can’t even use a app I just paid a yearly bill for? I have been to spectrum internet services because I got it from them. They can’t troubleshoot it? Why even sell it then? Anyway just another pic on my screen with another app I can’t use!! Very disappointed because it would definitely be great to use a phone I’m paying for!

Drops randomly

i appreciate mozilla as an organization, but the ios version of the vpn drops randomly without notice, and there’s no way to configure it to start when i turn my phone on. The mac version works totally fine, i can configure it to startup when i turn my laptop on and it doesn’t drop. I just wish the ios version worked as well.

i actually used mullvad vpn directly before this and never had any issues (both have flat rate pricing models). I’m likely to switch back to mullvad, and may revisit mozilla in the future if it gets more reliable.

Fast, needs an “always on” VPN configuration option.

To the developers, overall I’m impressed with the connection speed. I’ve always loved Mozilla products. However, I’m a bit surprised that for a VPN there is no option for an “always on” configuration. I hate that I have to turn that on each time I restart my device or any time connection is lost. That’s the only reason this gets 3 stars from me. I’m still testing it out for a few months, if this option isn’t added in the near future I’ll probably switch back to Proton VPN.

Go Mozilla!

MozillaVPN is really good and integrates well with IOS. In terms of VPN’s this is probably one of the better options on the market and is backed by Mozilla. Connection is good, especially for a VPN. Sometimes my school wifi won’t work with the VPN but that has more to do with my university than the VPN itself as no vpn works. When outside of my university I always have this VPN on and it got a good connection and doesn’t hinder my internet performance over wifi or cellular.

Inoperable for iPhone 12 Mini (iOS 15.0.1)

The mobile app is stuck in a loading screen loop. There is no way for me to enter my Mozilla credentials in order to activate the VPN for my mobile device (iPhone 12 Mini/iOS 15.0.1). I have contacted support and am awaiting their response. In the meantime I have uninstalled/reinstalled MozillaVPN , changed browsers (and browser settings), and have tried using only my cellular data and WiFi, respectively. Nothing has remedies the issue, so there must be a glitch regarding MozillaVPN . If I am able to effectively use the VPN on my iPhone I will be more than happy to revise this review to reflect the progress made. Until then, I have to give MozillaVPN one star.

Great service, but app needs work to improve utility

I love using this on my desktop platforms (Mac windows and Linux) but on iOS and iPadOS it’s extremely frustrating to see that it only stays on for a couple hours at most it seems. It will silently turn itself off in the background and more often than not, when I pull out my phone or iPad it will be disabled without any notification. It’s a great service, but MozillaVPN really needs some work – at the very least it needs to generate a notification when disconnecting in the background, if the actual problem came be easily resolved.

A VPN Deal For The Price

I’ve had no issues thus far. It is reasonably fast. The user has to try different cities for best speeds. There are a pretty limited number of server locations but it gets the job done. MozillaVPN will not automatically find your optimal connection as Nord does and you cannot select from different servers at a destination but for basic VPN needs its all there. It works as advertised and the price is a steal. I’m waiting on the Mac version.

Much worse than the PC version

The VPN drops its connection everyday for at least once with no notification. In contrary the PC Mozilla VPN has only dropped maybe 3-4 times in half a year of use, and it stays on even if your computer go into hibernation and/or WiFi gets disconnected. Speed wise there has not been any issues.

It is also noteworthy to know that the subscription you purchase is cross platform, allowing for up to 5 devices on different platforms.

Good product

I’ve been using MozillaVPN for a little while now and I’m generally very pleased. My only complaint is sometimes I have to take down MozillaVPN because a different app I want to use won’t recognize me with it up. I think it has to do with the feature that masks my IP address. Luckily, MozillaVPN is compatible with the banking I need to do, and that was one of my primary reasons for getting it. Well worth a try.

Fast but has issues with turning off randomly

I like the simplicity and speed for my basic VPN needs. However, about half of the time I check MozillaVPN (a few times a week), the VPN has turned off without my doing anything, and there is no way to tell how long it’s been off for. Am I supposed to leave MozillaVPN open all the time?
Big fan of Mozilla but not a fan of this product until this issue is fixed.

VPN is faulty

I know you typically see 2-3 star reviews as throwaways but hear me out.

This VPN has the potential to be great. I can bounce from city to city, country to country. When it’s working, it’s good. The problem is the connection is faulty. At times, it will say not connected (to wifi or to cellular data). Sometimes it’s on, sometimes it’s off. I use it on several devices. Lastly, on my laptop, it stopped working. I redownloaded it and it still doesn’t work. Maybe later this can be “wonderful,” but right now, it’s just not there.

😔 I tried …

I’m a big fan of Mozilla and I wanted to like this VPN. But it simply could not connect, or stay connected, enough to be useful.

It’s so confusing to tell what’s going on between the little “VPN” notification at the top of my iPad vs. iOS settings VPN status vs. the UI in the Mozilla app. So often they were inconsistent and most importantly, not actually connected to VPN.

Sometimes I’d get logged out for no reason too. Very frustrating.

Meanwhile I had a rival VPN installed and quite often it worked instantly… and even while connected with the other VPN, Mozilla still said “trying to connect” within their app. In fact, I could even put the iPad in airplane mode and the Mozilla app thought it was still trying to connect.

I’ll keep my eyes on the product, maybe it will improve. But for now I just need to find something more reliable.

No Connect on Demand

The Mozilla VPN app does not support Connect On Demand. This is the feature that will automatically reconnect to the server upon disconnect. For a privacy-oriented VPN, this is a non-starter as it means you can leak your connect any time the VPN disconnects.

I don’t know why MozillaVPN doesn’t support it considering Mullvad does (and Mozilla is piggybacking on Mullvad servers). I want to support Mozilla through MozillaVPN, but without this feature, I’ll be returning to Mullvad directly.

Ignore the negative reviews!

I have had many VPNs, before they were cool! And I have to say that Mozilla VPN has great options on MozillaVPN and doesn’t throttle or slow down when using it. I use it across all my devices and the price is unbeatable! I may be biased as I prefer any Mozilla product as what they stand for, but hey this VPN gets the job done!

A Perfect VPN

It is very easy to turn on/off and select the location you want to mimic. Internet speed is fast. What more could you ask for? It’s a great price too. I’ve used several other VPNs they required a year’s payment in advance. This is just as good or better. Highly recommend!
