Gradient: Celebrity Look Like Reviews

I read in the news that Gradient was all the rage, so decided to give it a shot, and boy did I feel like a fool. Gradient is really nothing special and definitely not worth ANY money. Someone managed to very successfully “hack the system” to get Gradient so much attention when it really has zero to offer.
First of all, before you can try or even see anything in Gradient , you have to sign up for a $20 monthly subscription (comes with a 3 day trial-period). You can cancel the subscription through your AppStore settings before the trial is over, but I imagine many will forget and get charged involuntarily. Apple’s new way of charging iPhone users is going to become very popular among Gradient developers, sadly!
When I finally got access to Gradient functions, I can only say it was deeply disappointing. Filters and functions are not anything special at all, some of them are even really bad, you can get the same or better for free or a flat fee elsewhere.
Secondly, the so-called face-comparison that’s supposed to tell you which celebrity you look like is complete and utter garbage, most people will get the same familiar results. Who else here looks like Angela Merkel raise a hand? Gradient just throws you random celebs and you’re supposed to think that’s funny? Please!
Do yourself a favor and just stay clear of Gradient.

Yeah Gradient is super sketch. The whole subscription thing didn’t really bother me mainly because I was only going to check out the ethnicity estimate and delete it after messing around for a bit, but the more I read the reviews while it was downloading, the more creeped out I got. Not going to go into detail here, just read a few of the other one star reviews, but I can tell you that I did check it out in settings and it’s really weird. Speaking of reviews, Jesus Christ are there a lot of fake ones. It’s pretty easy to tell that the five star reviews are fake, if you actually read them (which I know most people don’t because they’re looking for bad ones), and they all have really generic titles. One last thing. The devs did respond to one of the reviews talking about the sketchy stuff, (not the review that started it though hmmm) and the response also came off a bit weird to me. I don’t know if it just seemed not really genuine or a bit automated, but is didn’t really prove anything. Honestly, go ahead and download Gradient if you want, just read some more reviews because they go way more into detail then me.

It was a funny waste of time. You have to pay for a subscription that’s TWENTY DOLLARS MONTHLY to do anything, BUT there is a 3 day free trial. I immediately cancelled after laughing at Gradient for like 10 minutes. The celebrity look alike feature doesn’t work at all. I got Willow Smith and Vanessa Hudgens as look alikes, and if those two looking nothing alike wasn’t enough for you, I’m a ginger. The classical portrait feature just poorly pastes your face on an old portrait painting, doesn’t even color match or anything, just kinda slaps it on there. The ancestry thing just spit out random white nationalities when I used it with my face, so I used a picture of one of my black friends and it said she was a male of Emirati, Jewish, American, and North Korean dissent. Tried it on another one of my black friends and it said she was Egyptian, Portuguese, Spanish, and Caribbean. Only one African nation came up, so I’m guessing this “AI” isn’t too familiar with people of color. All the editing features are mediocre and you could get way better tools with a free app like PicsArt.

I opened Gradient , and skipped past the first screen asking me to sign up for the free trial. I didn’t see the ethnicity checker, so I thought I might have to buy “premium” to get that. So, I signed up for the yearly premium subscription ($125) that ALSO had a 3 day trial on it. What happens next? I instantly get an email from PayPal saying I’ve been charged $125. I quickly called my bank, Discover, and got them to put a stop payment on my account for that amount, so I won’t be charged. I should have had my Paypal hooked up to a credit card to be even safer, but this works too I suppose.

What an absolute scam. A trial didn’t even start for me. I clicked “3 day trial, $125” and instantly got charged the $125. That’s seriously disgusting. When I sign up for a trial, I expect a trial period where I can cancel my subscription. I don’t expect to have to be charged for it. What a joke.

Okay I tried it out. The photos they provided here in the appstore about this application’s interface is such a big lie! I was so amazed and excited to try the Elf style AI but it wasn’t even that good as shown in the pic, it was far away from that! They can’t even place the ears properly and there are no Elven tiaras or clothes. They just basically turn your face into cartoonish-dollish thing. I tried it and it weirdly didn’t even look like me anymore. They drastically slim my already slim and small face and enlarge my already large face, making me almost look like an alien doll. I tried out the premium stuff, seeing if they’ll ever provide what’s shown in the pics here but nah, it’s still the same stupid lies. The pics you will get from the AI will always be in 1:1 ratio and they will never be as good as the pictures provided here. I suggest you people never ever spend your money in Gradient.

The only way to enter Gradient is to buy a TWENTY DOLLAR monthly subscription or a three day free trial. Obviously as a student being paid minimum wage I’m going to choose the three day trial. I wanted to see what all the rage was about with the look alike feature. I use it for the first day and it’s pretty decent, really the apps only feature. Definitely not worth 20$ though. I forgot to cancel the free trial and I’m not charged 5$ for a week subscription but instead TWENTY DOLLARS for a monthly subscription. I only used Gradient for 10 minutes and they scammed me. Gradient is a complete scam and will take your money from you. Considering it is going viral on social media that means a lot of students and teenagers use it and then try the free trial. Taking advantage of students and teenagers is not the way to profit. Very sad and frustrating.

They messed up the remove background function, you used to be able to see what image was layered behind it as you removed the background, but now if you want to see what was behind the area you removed, you had to confirm the changes, then re-edit it again since it automatically removes parts of the picture you didn’t want removed. They also reduced the overall brush size for it too, so covering the edges of the screen is more of a hassle and covering large areas is slower. What an irritating change on so many levels. Would revert to the previous version if I could. Fix this please, or at least add in some more options to tweak it.

I didnt use any of the other features but also $20 a month you might as well just pay the subscription service to Adobe Photoshop on the computer. The ethnicity thing is completely racist and inaccurate. Labels me Mexican or Armenian or Emiratian over and over. I am Italian, which it only ever got once. For my black friends it labeled 80% of them as African (only 3 of them are African and the rest are Haitian which it never showed). The apps "A.I" chooses the ethnicity based entirely off 4 things I can gather. Eye shape, skin color, hair, and nose. It even does poorly with those. In pictures where you squint it will identify you as Asian of some sort ( I got north Korean a lot for some reason). I find it funny to see how wrong it is but for those that truly want to known your identity just spend $100 on a DNA test.

I love Gradient and all of it’s features so far. But I have one critique. I would like to have a feature built in to Gradient where I could take pictures in Gradient . Every time I want to use a new picture I have to exit Gradient , go to my phone camera, and go back into Gradient to select the new photo. This would make it a lot more convenient for use.

Ok, so when I started off using this it was because one of my friends used it on Instagram, and I wanted to see what my nationality is, let me remind you I’m 12, I assumed that this was a joke when my obviously black father took a picture and it pronounced him French, Canadian, Italian, and German. To be honest if I could give this 0 stars I would. Unless the creator made this as a joke, it’s awful. And it only depends on your picture that your using so one time it will tell you your 76% Spanish and then next time 58% Dutch! It’s an awful app that I would not recommend unless your using it as a joke. -Poppy ❤️

I just installed this a minute ago because of a three star review in TapSmart / TipsAndTricks published today, 20 November 2019. Although it advises that the in app purchases are very expensive I thought I’d just have fun with the free version for a day or two. Instead I’m deleting it now, immediately, because of the review here by BobDuncanforlife dated 18 October. It’s spooky enough to convince me to not even open this once, particularly because the customer says that NOTHING FOR Gradient APPEARED IN HIS IPHONE SETTINGS.
I then read a few other of the more negative reviews and I’m deleting this before I even type the period at the end of this sentence.

ok i’m typing this on an iphone and for some reason when i went to go check the information for Gradient like if it asks for permission or anything like my location and stuff like that Gradient DOESNT pop up at all.... all the apps i have show up but this one doesn’t so you can’t even check information or anything about Gradient and when i went into Gradient all photo apps ask for permission of images but this one doesn’t yet they still got in.... obviously whoever started the trend botted accounts to start the trend Gradient is hella sketch wouldn’t recommend if you’re a paranoid person.

So I really only bought Gradient for the ethnicity thing cause it seems cool and I’ve never taken a dna test. From what I know I am italian and Syrian but I always get Egyptian or Armenian which actually does make a lot of sense. Either way it’s still really fun to see what ethnicity you look like

We all know that Gradient isn’t used for what it’s supposed to be used for, instead we just see what random images and memes look like. Because of this there is a feature I would like to suggest, a dog “who’s your twin” feature. Yes dogs can be famous so seeing what kind of dog my dogs are and what famous dog they look like is very cool, also nice work I’ve spotted no bugs.

The latest update added 30 second ads in between every running of the effect. You lost me there. I didn’t mind the popups as they were, but your $20 a month asking price is pretty outrageous for the subscription, and with 30 second ads with the free version, it’s just unusable.

The filters are some of the best out there, but I don’t have the time to sit through those ads, and I really think you guys should check your pricing model.

This is my first review I have ever written. Needed to convey to everyone how big of a scam Gradient is. Downloaded it thinking I had a 3 day free trial and afterwords, it would ask for my billing information if I wanted to subscribe. Nope. After 3 days, it automatically tried billing me based on my iTunes payment information. No other app I have ever downloaded tried doing such shady tactics. Luckily I hadn’t updated my credit card info in a while so wasn’t billed but would have been furious if I had been. Gradient is a joke and removed after spending 2 min on it. Do not download this garbage and get billed

So I downloaded Gradient for fun and I thought I would have to pay for everything but I was wrong everything you have to pay for can be used with some imitation you don’t get unlimited try’s but you can use it like 20 times and the only thing I dislike is the Portrait it’s kinda lazy besides that I give it 5 stars

It was perfect, as different photos of the same person would have different results, that being said, it was somewhat consistent and accurate, enough to be quite amusing and a lot of fun, very disappointed I no longer have access to it 😔

Ok so i downloaded it at 11 pm and it hasnt even been ten minutes until i deleted it- bad quality very inappropriate and too many glitches. i was very schoxked that is wasnt even ten mins . im gonna post the bad reviews on instagram and ull see , ypure app will be damaged in pieces, even though im eighteen i get into dumb thinks and i was weirded out. even though in the stqrt it looks fun and yay wow idk how its tjis bad, i hope u guys get poor this is bad_ i wish that i cpuld rate 0 .i also got scammed for 125 this is just stupid how is this 4+ like ur dumb

Gradient is trash and so is there customer service. I used Gradient a total of two times. Once to change my face in to a famous person which looked nothing like me and it didn’t make sense at all. The second time to cancel the $20 subscription they failed to notify me about. I contacted them about a refund and have received no response after 2 weeks. I do not recommend Gradient to other people and it’s a complete waste of time and a rip off. I will never use Gradient or anything made by this company ever again.

Gradient is an interesting app and it grabbed my attention at first, but I won’t recommend it. Yes, it’s a good editing app. Yes, it’s a funny amusement for you and your friends. Yes, it can cheer you up. But honestly you aren’t able to know what Gradient does. It didn’t ask for permission to my photo album, and that made me think about the other things it could’ve accessed. Also, in my settings, there was no information under Gradient . How weird! And my suspicions have brought me to the truth. The next day, I found an anonymous INSTAGRAM account with embarrassing photos of my friends. Those are the exact photos in my album. You can believe me or not, but please don’t download Gradient. There were also pop adds that prevented me to do anything.

I’ll admit that Gradient is pretty great for photo editing/touch-ups (in terms of free content vs paid). But the main thing that caught my eye was the Moon/Dark/Nebula/etc. swirly rainbow-y filters advertised in the first photo/preview. Cannot find it - I’m guessing it’s hidden because it is for subscribers only but it would be nice to see what it does and if it’s even available.

Anything involving certain facial features in the beauty section (nose, for example) automatically crashes my iPhone. Also, after previewing one or two filters, if I try to see my photo with the rest it will freeze up. I can tap on as many filters as I want but nothing changes. This eventually will also cause it to crash.

I love utilizing photo editor. I enjoy taking photos and sometimes you only have a minute to capture a photo and if it isn’t the best quality then photo editor can bring a blurry photo into the photo you hoped to capture. You can enhance an old photo, text and draw on photos! I just love Gradient so much!

Great application. I've been using it for years, and I love the results you can get even when using a poor camera. One thing I would love to see in the future is being able to duplicate masks, in order to apply them on different effects.

All the tools you actually need, especially when you need to size pictures for a particular format and wish to avoid over-cropping them (the expand canvas feature is a lifesaver!). A very functional and straightforward photo editor without a bunch of fluff.

I have tried many applications like this one but it's very slow and not beautiful. Moreover, the applications that I've experienced took me lots of time. This application is very fast and effective. Everyone who wants to save time but still wants to have beautiful pictures should try this one.

The design of this photo editor is quite simple which is good for users. There are a lot of editors which are extremely difficult for users to use. This one is not only simple but the results are not simple

A very spectacular editing app that can be used this modern day, but there's still a lot of room for improvement. And I hope for the future update they would add more filter or effects so that we can choose on a wide variety of options

I just love Gradient!!! I have tried like 100s of photo editing apps available online, but I was never this satisfied with the edited pictures. If you are a person who loves to edit your pictures from scratch rather than applying predefined filters, Gradient is great!
