Difficult to navigate

Honestly, I have to say wow the users are great and I love getting the alerts and responding. When I can figure out how to do so, the UI in this app is one of the worst I’ve ever seen it’s a difficult to navigate there’s not a lot of explanation and most of the time I just get frustrated and stop interacting so the poor user interface is affecting the ability for the members to communicate and share and help and comment. I would recommend the developer take a look at the interface and maybe just build it from scratch. As an app developer of myself I would never ever leased a product with this kind of user interface it’s overly complex difficult to navigate and create user frustration, which means users won’t use it and some of these people including me really need that kind of support. So I think the developer should take a hard look and do something to make it right. But that’s just one guys opinion.

Good intentions. Seriously flawed.

Basically what I wanted was something to keep track of my sober time. Lo and behold, I open the app up today and suddenly I’ve randomly just got 35 hours. You had just one job….

I’ll give it an extra star for soliciting random encouragement from others. It’s trying to create “community.” And I like the idea of trying to match you up with therapy (although that part of the system is very clunky; I never did figure out how to work it)

But so much of it is of the “Here, have a random platitude” school of recovery. I like the thought behind the whole “You have to comment on someone else’s post before you can make one of your own” idea, but the reality is that this rapidly becomes a bunch of insincere “Yeah! Good jorb!” or “Don’t give up!” comments that don’t carry a lot of weight.

And that opens up a whole other can of worms about whether a recovery app really ought to be feeding a bunch of addicts little dopamine hits like Facebook does.

In short, it’s kind of a metaphor for the internet as a whole: it’s well-intentioned, buggy, the opposite of thoughtful, and runs on destructive psychology. As such it highlights one of the truisms of our time: there ain’t no substitute for the real world.

It’s a start

Not what I thought it would be...a way to stay in connection with other alcoholics while we are more isolated. There is a limited interface. Limited interactions. I’m not sure what I’m paying for...each time I’ve tried to post, I can’t unless I write to someone else first. There are other social programs where sober friends can be found and connected to more easily. Seems like the majority of users are in very early recovery. Experience, strength, and hope is limited. I couldn’t get sober, or stay sober, with just this app...I need meetings, a sponsor, a community, and to work a program of recovery. Don’t use this app instead of those things. Maybe in time this will grow into a more robust app and community. I wouldn’t get sober here.
