Lacking in many ways

I was excited for an app that seemed to track lots of areas of mood triggers, however, there are lots of things that just don’t allow for accurate input with MoodyMonth.
First is the inability to input a period longer than 10 days. Sure, that might not be considered medically normal, but when you’ve had an irregular period since age thirteen that generally lasts for 9-12 days, and frequently even longer than 12 days, it would be nice to have a health tracker allow that kind of input to help you out with those conversations with doctors that have been happening for over 20 years.
Next, you can’t log any info for a missed day EXCEPT a period on the calendar. So, you can add it a day or two late, but then how does that really help track the info accurately, might as well just use a paper journal.
The last real disappointment for me, and the reason I’ve decided to delete MoodyMonth altogether is that when my phone was damaged and had to be replaced, ALL of my input data was lost. So, they don’t keep any of it stored at all anywhere, just on the device you’re using? What’s the point? The last backup on my phone happened within hours of needing to be replaced, and a few days after my last log of info into MoodyMonth . But there is nothing saved at all. 3 months of period input and physical symptom logging, and its kaput. What a waste of time. I should have just been using the calendar on my phone the whole time. Or, like I said, a paper journal.

Inaccurate and harmful information

MoodyMonth is built well and has a lot of content; however, it is grossly inaccurate in places.
Here are two examples. For menstrual phase, suggested yoga poses are twists and ab work. Midline twisting poses are suitable starting at day 6 in the cycle at the earliest(Rise stage according to MoodyMonth ) and ab work can start with a gentle progression on day 7 or 8 once the bleeding finishes and estrogen has had a chance to rise.
A second example is a reoccurring theme I noticed. In the daily check-in there are constant pushes to socialize in the second half of the cycle. Women are the strongest communicators around their ovulation time. Before, they take in inputs and the second half of the cycle is reserved for clearing and reflection. Communication at all times is not only unnecessary but can be counterproductive.
I deleted my account and MoodyMonth and I feel deep grief for thousands of women who are exposed to this garbage posing as wellness.

App reset itself, lost all settings and data

Started using this and logged detailed events everyday for a week. Also spent significant time filling out some back log to see patterns. Today I opened MoodyMonth and suddenly everything was gone. Like it just reset itself. My cycles and settings just went to default or as if I’m using it for the first time. Didn’t update or do anything to it. Good thing I’m only a week in, but I’ve spent a good deal of time on it. What a waste. Interface is buggy as well, time stamps would be off, UI feels clumsy.

I was excited as this seemed to be one of the only apps that didn’t require email address or signing up for an account to use. But if it can’t even retain data properly on a local device....

I did like the graph it would generate for your logs so you can visually see your moods and symptoms in a graphical way. But won’t be using further.

Doesn’t use correct terms

I’m struggling to find a cycle tracker that uses the correct terminology for cycle phases and doesn’t stigmatize the process. While MoodyMonth is helpful, I’m pretty disappointed in some of the verbiage. Calling it ‘Moody’ was a red flag right off the bat, but I’m giving it a chance. I like the daily forecast, and the ability to synchronize the moon phase. I would love to see this on a wheel as many other period apps have, as opposed to a calendar. A wheel allows one to see their entire cycle and each phase as it begins and ends. It prioritizes viewing the *cycle* as a complete process as opposed to the month. I was very disappointed to see the four cycle phases renamed as ‘Bleed’, ‘Rise’, ‘Shift’, and ‘Reflect’. The correct terms are Menstrual, Follicular, Ovulatory, and Luteal… which most women don’t know. Periods have been historically stigmatized, which has robbed us of knowledge of our cycle, and how each phase affects our minds, bodies, and emotions. Why contribute to this stigma by renaming the cycle phases? I’m currently using five different apps, and have explored countless others, searching for one that doesn’t use gimmicky terms. While MoodyMonth provides a wealth of information, the presentation and lack of correct terminology is disappointing. I’m going to continue using this through my cycle and will update this review if my opinion changes through daily use.

Was perfect til they charged for everything

This was a wonderful app that helped “normalize” all the emotions and symptoms women suffer throughout their complete cycle. Since they added the costly membership that’s not affordable (especially during these times) you only get two free videos a month. I’d rather have ads attached to videos to be able to get the content I received before rather than only access items that I could already be doing in my Apple phone’s health app. I understand needing funding, but ladies deserve a wonderful app like this intended to be previously without the high membership fees!

needs accurate terminology

I the symptom tracker has been helpful and I’ve noticed a number of patterns I wasn’t expecting which helps me be more accepting and compassionate towards myself, BUT that being said, I really wish the phases were named by their legitimate, scientific name and not the cute names like “Rise” and “Shift.” It feels less empowering (and less convenient having to find the true scientific name for such phases from other sources). It’s been mentioned before and the developers have alluded to taking it into consideration for updates, but nothing has come of it Update: over a year later with multiple other users requesting the same thing and multiple developer responses, yet no changes to the phase names at all. I got a different app

Some Wins, Some Losses

I got really hyped for Moody Month because unlike a lot of period trackers, it gave you an option for “not getting a period,” which has always upset me with other apps. However, Moody Month needs some major updates if it is going to actually be as effective as other period trackers. The biggest problem is that Moody Month DOES NOT ALLOW YOU TO LOG A PERIOD LONGER THAN 10 DAYS. You cannot log back to back periods to “cheat” and log more days after the 10 day limit. In addition, unlike some period trackers, it doesn’t learn your personal ovulation, PMS, and period timing to give better feedback. It assumes a constant, 28 day cycle.

It’s just okay

It’s a little sloppy/overwhelming to look at and use. I wish they’d simplify the look and make it more intuitive. I also agree with others that I don’t need to use alternative words for the medical terminology of my cycle - in fact, I’d rather normalize saying “I’m in my literal phase right now” instead of “reflect” or whatever. The notifications are also seemingly random. If I’m menstruating, MoodyMonth says my hormones are at an all time low at this point in my cycle, however, the notifications Im getting are about going out and being social due to higher hormone levels…hello? Which one is it? My “rest” phase or not? Why is it so hard to make a cycle app that is simple, easy to use, and accurate? Also to charge for it is ridiculous. We already have to buy products for a bodily function we can’t control- now I have to pay to inaccurately track it? F off tbh. 🙃

Great interface but lacking some key things

IMPLEMENT THESE THINGS ASAP IF YOU WANT WOMEN TO USE & LOVE YOU.

I love the interface and user-friendliness about MoodyMonth and have struggled to find something better. But I do think there’s some key things women need for this to be an actually useful tool

1. I agree with other reviews that there needs more termonology. I understand you’re trying to make it cute with nicknaming each phase but i think it’s important to ALSO use each official scientific term for each phase. So women can be informed and empowered and knowledgeable about what’s going on in our bodies. I also think more scientific and informative articles would be great.

2. Most importantly; I think there needs to be better reports and a way to easily see what each phase of my cycle has been like and see what symptoms often pop up throughout my cycle. This would help women a ton with being able to know their period and plan for their phases accordingly. Knowledge is power!!

Viewing by symptom on the charts is cool but id prefer to be able to easily see an overview of each phase of my cycle, which symptoms often come with that and maybe what I can do to help with it :)

These things would be a game changer for me and all other women and help us stick to the same app long term and especially if you’re gonna be charging premium prices for certain features ;)

Be a girls girl and take this and actually implement it for women everywhere!

So far, okay

I just downloaded MoodyMonth a few hours ago and it seems okay. I’m only using whatever comes on the non-membership platform, which seems to be everything but the videos (2 free per month? That’s pretty low considering there’s a daily program…). I found MoodyMonth from recommendation inside the native health app on my phone. What I’m not clear on is whether MoodyMonth syncs with apple health? If not it really should… I have years worth of cycle tracking data in the health app and don’t have an interest in entering data to both that app (which is super fast and easy via my watch) and this one. I would expect that if I log a period day on my watch (into apple health) that it would also show up in MoodyMonth, but I have a feeling that will not be the case.

Obviously I haven’t gotten to see how the data visualization comes out yet but I’m hoping I can stick with this long enough to see some meaningful outputs. I’m not seeing any settings for push notifications/reminders - this seems like it would be a basic feature for an app such as this.

Overall I really like the concept of MoodyMonth, it just feels like these basic pieces are missing.

Love the app: just one issue

I love MoodyMonth very much to track my cycle and understand the different phases - it helps me so much to act and eat and rest intuitively. I have the pro version and I can comfortably say that it’s worth every penny if you feel like your hormones play a role on how you feel but cannot put a finger on why and how you feel that way.
My only issue with MoodyMonth is that the notifications that I get are amazing, but there is no way of seeing these notification on MoodyMonth itself. This becomes a bit annoying when I click on the notification hoping to see the rest of it and MoodyMonth just brings me to the home page. If the developers fix this problem MoodyMonth deserves 10 out of 5!!

Helpful

I enjoy being able to check in each day and night and see a brief description of what my hormones are doing and how it could be affecting me emotionally and physically. It has helped me shift my perspective in moments of negative thought. I do also like the tracking aspect. There is a better array of options than in other tracking apps I have tried. However, I took off one star, because I don't feel like there is much that I can do with the data. A more comprehensive overview, such as being able to look at a whole month at once would be helpful. If MoodyMonth could also point out patterns over time, that would be very informative and useful as well. I'm hoping that this will be incorporated in the future!

Update Fixed Data Issues

So, I was very glad to see that there was a quick update that fixed the “disappearing data” problem that I and some others had complained of!

I still really would like to see an option for *automatic* data exports to a *private* place like iCloud, or at least my phone’s Files app, rather than needing to create an account and risk my data being exported to some cloud with security unknown to me. I just don’t trust an “outside” service with data this private.

Still, if you’re like me and the last thing on Earth you want is to make yet another account with yet another password to remember, not to mention the privacy risks of having anyone hold your health data and your email address, at least there is an option for you to keep your data safe.

And the tracking in MoodyMonth is much better than others I’ve found... I really like how it displays trends over time!

Appsolutely AWESOMMEEEE

LITERALLY GET IT. I love that this period tracker is simple, and straightforward. It doesn’t throw ads in my face, and provides extremely informational content without hiding it behind a paywall. I’m highly impressed with the daily check-in feature; it describes what your hormones are probably up to, and how that affects your body. The check-in’s have been spot on for me so far, and I’m SUPER grateful to have this reliable resource! My body is feeling its best now that I know how to help it :) Sidenote: I noticed in some reviews that people were being fussy about verbiage and some mentioned missing features and I adore the responsiveness of the developers, not only are they willing to improve but they’re also respectful! 10/10

So so so helpful.

I’m in my 30s and have just gotten off hormonal birth control after being on it for 12 years - I wanted to for health reasons and to just let my body do its natural thing. As my body regulates, I found I wanted to be able to track and understand my body more. MoodyMonth is organized, educational, uplifting, validating and all the things I never knew I needed. I’m experiencing phases that I never really knew about or understood fully (especially going through my cycles naturally now) and I feel so much more in tune with my body. The creators of MoodyMonth really put in so much work and time into curating an experience for their users that is personal and ACTUALLY helpful. Hands down favorite app of 2024, well done guys! 🙏🏼

Emotions

I can’t speak for those with irregular periods as I experience extremely regular cycles but MoodyMonth has been amazing for me. It feels so comfortable to use and teaches me a lot about the way my hormones. I personally don’t handle my emotions very well as I shift from passionate to numb feelings often and it’s nice to have the extra insight, especially since I’m in a pretty emotionally turbulent time in my life right now. The astrology feature is also a fun side thing if you’re into it. First time I’ve written a review for an app and I don’t believe they even prompted me to do so like most other apps. I have not been using it for very long yet. My only qualm with MoodyMonth is that it pauses my music :(

This App Gets Me

I chose MoodyMonth because it promised not to sell my private information, and I’m so glad that I did! I thought that I knew myself: erratic emotions, stochastic migraines. But woah, I was wrong. Through Moody, I realized that these symptoms, which seemed so random before I tracked them, were synced with my hormones! After following Moody’s daily advice (e.g., eating protein to stabilize my hormones), I had my first migraine-free month in two years. I also used my tracking data to help my doctor better help me. MoodyMonth is life changing and I am so thankful. My only suggestion for improvement is to clearly state what is included in the membership upgrade - I want more of this amazing app, but I want to know exactly what I’m purchasing! I unfortunately couldn’t find a clear explanation of what the membership includes. Overall great app that apparently knows me better than I know myself.

Used as a journal more but yknow I love it

Ok so my periods are super irregular, I’m never on a schedule BUT having MoodyMonth helps me WANT to stay on track and let’s me know I’m not completely out of reach with my schedule. Anyways, since my schedule has been thrown out the window years ago, I mainly use MoodyMonth to journal! You can list everything that you are feeling and check box things and use the slider and add to the list, it’s wonderful! You can also use the little journal and I love it! Looking back on days whne I was feeling horrible and days when I was feeling good! It can be used as a way to track moods in your phases BUT mainly I just use it to feel better, journaling really is important if you don’t have a therapist, or really even if you do. So I use it all the time so I’m never feeling too bad and I don’t go out of control. Haha, regulating yourself so you don’t do anything! 😐 no but seriously MoodyMonth is really kind to me and I love it sooo yknow

Track your Patterns

I love MoodyMonth because I can log my mood everyday and see my patterns over time. It really helps you feel more relieved when you feel tired or stressed, because at certain times of the month it’s normal to feel like that. I used to feel guilty for feeling tired or stressed, but I’m able to really enjoy the moments of relaxation these days! There are also really awesome and helpful tips to get you through those hard days. I recommend this to everybody!

Update: FIXED!!! - Stopped working after iOS update (subscriber)

After upgrading both my iPad and iPhone MoodyMonth stopped working. It doesn’t let me open it at all. I contacted MoodyMonth support but didn’t receive any answer. I’ve been using moody for around a year and the experience by far has been great nut now is useless. Please help!

Update:
The Moody team contacted me and asked me to uninstall and install MoodyMonth again. I’m not sure how this made it work again as I performed the same steps before and couldn’t make it start but nevertheless, I’m happy! This is a fantastic app, and a must for me as a woman. Can’t wait to see what other features will be included in the future :)
