Not as good as stars imply

The star ratings are a bit misleading, because the developers have an os popup that says “Rate us 5 stars” in bold with the alternative being a non-bolded No. So with it being an os alert it’s instinctive to just go ahead and hit the bold text rather than the no. There’s no alternative to simply rate the game with what you think it deserves. You have to go to the app store specifically to do that. The alert pops up now and then and if you think the game is okay it’s easy to give 5 stars just to make it go away. I’m sure a lot of apps do this, but it does lead to unrealistic ratings. As for the game itself, it is fun but also annoying. Because you need to use ping pong timing, which is great, but at the same time you’re engaging that part of your brain, you also have to repress the urge to tap the button for the direction you want to HIT the ball, as you would do in a real game, and instead tap the button for the square in which the incoming ball is LANDING. These are frequently opposite, ie, the ball is landing in the square on the right, but you want to hit it back to the left, so if you don’t successfully repress that urge quickly enough, you lose that point. This cognitive dissonance is really the only thing that makes the game challenging. That being said, it is still a fun game.

Main game is good, but mini games are trash.

My my iPhone 6s might be slowing down, so this might not be a problem, but with the concentration test, the ball goes so fast that you have to tap when he’s hitting the ball, so when the ball slows down, you can’t react in time and you will hit early, and if you tap again, you will hit late, so you can’t recover (sometimes you can, but not all the time). With the eyesight test, you have to replay levels you already beat, and there is a long pause between each level, so it’s a huge waste of time. This can easily be fixed by having the table shrink while you are playing and be scored in decimal size of the board instead of levels (rounded integers). Also each level is 3-7 hits (maybe longer or shorter, but these are the numbers I’ve counted), so if I can beat a level with 3 hits, why would I have to prove that I can see that well with 7 hits on the next one? Also this means that you can spend a long time on a play, and get the same score as when you spent a short amount of time. The reverse test doesn’t have any issues. The only thing is, when you cut it close, it looks like the ball is going through your paddle. Maybe I just don’t cut it close in other modes because it is easier to react faster in them.

Simple! But...

Now, I love the simplicity and minimalistic style of this game. It makes it addicting and frustrating sometimes which is a challenge! BUT after you finish the 50 lvls/staff game what’s next? The issue is repetition becomes BORING when there is NO progression. After like 20 levels I was bored with clicking left..right..left. It was getting to the top that made me keep playing. I know they added “impossible” levels, which are fun to a point, but I don’t see someone playing this for more than a week because it is easy and repeating which becomes boring. It’s fun to play, don’t get me wrong. I loved it! I just feel like it could have more potential then a one time thing, I wouldn't recommend a game that could be finished in a day? I get that the whole point is that it’s simple, but that won’t sell a good game though. Nobody is playing tic tac toe anymore? Anyways, I recommend playing this if you’re bored out of your mind, but it won’t take you far. Adding more structure might make it more interesting, might also not be as simple anymore.
